A bittersweet note

April 17th, 2008
By Stephen Tsai

First, there was the ticket fiasco with the Sugar Bowl.
Then there were the problems with the travel party. (Example 1: UH reneged on a promise to pay for a photographer's hotel room.)
Then there was the magical "disappearance" of the bowl prizes — iTouch machines — that were supposed to go to the assistant coaches. (They had been pulled, stored away for who knows what purpose, and then "found." It was the second year in a row the coaches' gifts were "lost.")
And now we learn that the previous administration did not reimburse Colt Brennan for his airfare to the Sugar Bowl. Other teammates who did not travel on the team charter were reimbursed.
I'm sure the new administration will make things right. But, sheesh, what an unnecessary headache.

First ... although I'm not necessarily happy being first when the topic is such disappointments under you know who.

  2. Esme:

The funny thing is that after reading about these constant flubs under the old administration, the first phrase to pop to mind is A-House's "THIS TOTALLY SUCKS!!!"

I love that A-House says that.

    --

    Hi, ST!

Hi, Tsaikos! Hurry up and migrate over from the old blog entry, willya?

  3. HiFlyer:

    Hi Esme.

SJ, no problems with the photos all looked good!!!

  4. Koauka:

Good morning ST - working late like me (lol)

Thank you for the truth. Looks like the former Hawaii A.D. needs an attachment to his resume.

And a top of the morning to Esme, too

  5. Esme:

Hey, you night owls. Yep, I'm working too.

Funny, I think that was perhaps the fourth or fifth time I've been No. 1, but because of the topic, I don't feel joy on this one. Only ... grrrrr.

Just stopped here momentarily for a breather / stress relief. Now all I need is some jokes from las vegas (oops, did I just open a pandora's box there?).

  6. Kekoa:

Roaring in at the speed of light is the #6 blog entry!...What nobody home? Even Esme went back to (gulp!) WORK!

  7. HiFlyer:

Kekoa, I'm still here bro. How's you dad doing on the recovery?

  8. HiFlyer:

    Test

  9. HiFlyer:

The time stamp for the comments are two minutes fast again.

  10. Ralph:

I remember BrianK not receiving an Itouch...thanks to the Tsaikos who quietly got together and surprised him with a itouch presented by ST

  11. Hawaiianbod:

HF - the disease that just won't go away.

  12. Ralph:

Hiflyer, kekoa went to bed a long time ago, he posted in his sleep and that's how come you didn't get a reply...

  13. al:

i was just going to hit it......

will the ghost of athletic director's past ever stop haunting us?

  14. Kekoa:

    Fellow Tsaikos ~

I want to say something good about the associate AD since I've recently had some discussions with him as directed by JD. It's just that I have to hold back on the details until the proposition is reviewed for action with the principals involved. It should have a very positive impact on the University as a whole, and the AD specifically.

Trust me when I say that Mr. Clapp has impressed me as someone who is genuinely trying his best to help JD roll things forward. He knows that we Tsaikos are good people to have in your corner, and did demonstrate to me his appreciation for all that we've done to help the University and it's athletes.

I'm looking forward to working with him in the upcoming weeks, and then we should see some very positive results build over the remainder of this calender year. The goal will be to bring UH financial stability.

With that very positive thought, I bid you all a good night! Kekoa has left the building...

Esme ~ you may roll up the sidewalks and tuck me into my cave...Homey get the lights please, and one of our many UH band members may blow TAPS.

  15. Ralph:

Hawaiianbod, i'm glad you're up and around. How's your health, whatever it was, I hope its under control..

  16. al:

well the good thing is we can all rest assured that jimmy d will take care of all past screw-ups. they will easily be corrected since the jimmy d wasn't around to witness all the mess.

my concern is....how much did/does other staffers know?
shouldn't they have come forward to help right the wrong?

    hmmmm.

    okay now i'll hit it.

  17. Ralph:

Kekoa, i hope you get up for fb practice tomorrow...not to many practices remaining....

  18. Ralph:

How can one man do all the above wrongs and no one else knew..ditto Al, the guilty must come forward and face JD and man up to their complacency...

  19. Ralph:

    lights out

  20. Kekoa:

Whoa! just as the monitor flickered off I caught some night owls still up on screen, so I hit the refresh button.

Ralph, hiflyer, Hbod, al, I'm ready for your questions.

First answer about my dad's condition is...fragile, very fragile. Physically he is doing very well. Mental strain from all the trauma and drama has taken it's toll. He is clearly on an emotional rollercoaster ride.

  21. Koauka:

    Al:

Nope, the folks in lower Manoa work hard and do their jobs well. The long-timers there seen it all. Just do what you gotta do and go home. But when the gold medal man came, thats when everyone started to get really upset. But every dog has it day and
    that day of independence came.

Sad, the biggest week in the history of the University of Hawaii turned into the worst.
But slowly by slowly, the truth is coming out. And I think with Jim Donovan at the helm,
the truth will set us free.

  22. Hawaiianbod:

    Ralph,

I have my good days then there are the not so good days. My sugars are more under controlled now. Thanks for asking.

    Good night, my friend.

  23. Kekoa:

I blew my chance to go to practice yesterday morning. This morning I've got to get dad to another appointment at the "Jason Elam Sports Center Oahu." They are his contracted physical rehab people...and yes it is named for THAT Jason and not our very own schollie named Jason.

  24. Kekoa:

H-bod ~ I have to watch the dreaded blood sugar also. My wife has diabetes, but I've been lucky to be able to dance around it, so I test with her kit just to make sure.

Happy to see you and others maintain. I know it's a struggle, and we do have our enticements all around us. It's what we do and the price we pay in Hawaii Nei...

  25. Hawaiianbod:

    Kekoa,

Pops is ALWAYS in my prayers.

May Ke Akua lift his Spirits and grant him Peace. Shalom.

  26. HiFlyer:

Kekoa your 14 post, Good to hear that Clapp understands the power of the fans here, maybe when everything settles down you can give us the full scoops.

Aloha and best wishes for your dad.

  27. Hawaiianbod:

    Kekoa,

Thanks for the Love! It's a daily challenge.

I'll also pray for the Mrs.

  28. Kekoa:

HiFlyer ~ I think he knows that he is on view. He needs to get this done for his stock to go up. He is bound and determined to do that, I'm sure.

I would love to see this come to fruition and give him full credit for helping put a positive change in place.

Thank you and H-bod for your kind words for my dad. I am hoping that eventually he can spend some time with us at the T-gate and be able to talk football, aviation, and swap dive stories with everyone.

  29. las vegas:

I could really go for a half dozen or so of Dunkin' Donuts right about now.

Too much sugar? I'll drink a diet Coke, that'll even things out, maybe a celery stick too.

  37. Hawaiianbod:

Too bad Dunkin Domuts folded in Pearl City.

Krispy Kremes is just too sweet.

  38. las vegas:

  44. rage777:

That was a great article by Ferd. I like the last line "In Hawaii he is" famous.

  45. Stretch:

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Who needs coffee in the morning when they can come here to read more about HF F-ups and get the blood pumping??!!?? What ever happened to the list of people who were allowed to attend the Sugar Bowl on UH's tab??

Re: Kekoa's take on Clapp - I am sure that Clapp is a good person with only good intentions for UH, it's just unfortunate for him he is associated with the HF regime. It thought it was a little unfair that when he was the blog guest, he got criticized for HF's problems. Maybe he could have said something as Associate AD, but how many of us go over the bosses head when they have their own agenda?? His hands were probably tied.

  46. MeiLing:

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

You're right, Stretch, no need coffee when you read about the problems that HF left behind.

I hope the audit turns up info about these problems. JD, we know you are above-board, just make sure the auditors look at everything.

If athletics really had a deficit last year, will UH go after HF to recover the bonus they paid him???

Talking about UH's Sugar Bowl money and the BCS conference payouts...it is amazing that Texas Tech *lost* $202k by going to the Gator Bowl!

Bobby Gleason, Tech’s deputy athletic director, said while the numbers still may fluctuate, the athletic department spent $202,240 out of its regular operating budget of $44 million, which goes to show that the public can be misled when it sees the bowl payout numbers.

"Most fans read something that says that the Gator Bowl payout is $2.5 million," Gleason said. "Most fans think that goes to us because we’re playing in the Gator Bowl, but they don’t understand that all that money is paid to the conference."

Gleason said, in turn, the Big 12 Conference disperses a formula-based travel allowance among the teams attending bowl games.

Gleason said because the Gator Bowl is a tier-one bowl — a level below a BCS bowl — the formula provided Tech with a bowl appearance fee of $925,000 and a reimbursement policy that gives $199 per mile traveled.

According to the bowl’s financial report, the trip to Jacksonville equaled $239,198 in reimbursement money, so Tech received just under $1.1 million.

To put it in perspective, Gleason said the appearance fee for a BCS bowl is $1.5 million along with the reimbursement policy.

According to the report, Tech subtracted nearly $74,000 after ticket sales did not equal the total price of complimentary tickets used by the university.

Gleason said Tech used about half of the 12,000 tickets that were available to sell.

  51. Garret:

So, it looks like making a BCS Bowl gets a Big 12 team $1.5 mil...that is actually less than UH will get from the Sugar Bowl! However, each BCS team gets their cut of the BCS money every year, so when you add that in they will make a lot of money.

  52. Garret:

The Oklahoma WR got to run again for NFL scouts and got his way and ran on a really fast surface. His time was basically the same as last time and the NFL will add time due to the fast surface, so he'll come out worse than last time! Plus, he's already been made to look really bad by his public criticism of Oklahoma.

While Kelly repeated seven drills after a disappointing first performance a week earlier, the focus was on his 40-yard dash time. A change in surface and shoes had little influence on Kelly's re-run.

After posting a time of 4.68 seven days earlier, Kelly's runs Wednesday produced a 4.65 and a 4.63 — times that were to be adjusted higher by NFL personnel.

"Kelly ran this time on what the scouts considered to be a fast track,” Brandt wrote on the NFL.com site, "and he posted similar numbers to those he ran last week.”

Similar before a bump of as much as .15 seconds, which is what Brandt said would be added for runs on anything but FieldTurf.

  53. Garret:

I'm so glad that they fixed the blog. When I was up early this morning (2.5 hours ago), I could not get to this blog using Firefox OR IE! I gave up and if the blog didn't work now I would have just not posted until after dinner.

Nick Saban *really* overbooked his scholarships!

Today, after Alabama's last spring practice, I had one of those situations. One of the big questions, I think, for the offseason is how will coach Nick Saban whittle the roster down to just 85 scholarships? There are 66 on scholarship now, and assume 25 freshman will enroll. That's 91. So six have to go by August.

How? That's what I asked Saban today. He was entertaining as always. Let's just say, the conversation was classic:

Me: "The numbers is issue. First, do you know, is Colin Peek on scholarship?"

Saban: (Time to play dumb.) "I don't know. You ask me, do I know..." (Bad question. Clearly, he knows.)

Me: "I think you do know." (See?)

Saban: "You'll have to ask somebody else." (Cue mischievous grin) "You're asking the wrong guy."

Me: (Alright, come on, it's getting late.) "He is, right?"

    Saban: "Yeah." (Round one: Me!)

Me: (The real questions) "How are you going to handle the numbers and when do you start to worry about it?"

Saban: (Getting a little loud... What, Saban worry?) "I'm not worried about them. It'll all work out. I mean, the whole thing has a solution to every issue. You don't put yourself in a position where you don't know what's coming, then have to take it in the chops." ("Chops" is such a dad word. Not that there is anything wrong with that) "Aiight? We know how it has to be managed, and it will be managed."

  55. Garret:

This 2009 QB recruit is actually posting all of his recruitment letters on his website. This is really interesting because so many top teams are recruiting him and you get to see the difference in their recruiting tactics.

Inside was a four-paragraph letter from Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh offering a full scholarship. "It kind of didn't hit me until I actually received the letter in the mail," Forcier said. "When you get that first offer, it's one of the best feelings. You know you have a place. You're set. You're not worrying, 'Am I going to get recruited?'"

Forcier has since received 29 more offers, and as the written offers have arrived, Forcier and his family have scanned them and posted them on the brothers' Web site. As of Tuesday morning, the Forciers had posted 21 offer letters on the site, and those letters offer a fascinating glimpse into a key moment in the recruiting process that is often talked about but rarely examined.

Thanks to Forcier, we know that Harbaugh believes Stanford represents "the greatest combination of academic and athletic excellence in existence." We know LSU has yet to order new letterhead since winning the 2007 BCS title. We know that Oklahoma State coach Mike "I'm a man!" Gundy writes the same way he talks -- with ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.

Forcier has offers from schools in all six BCS conferences, so the letters posted on his site offer an excellent cross-section of big-time programs. And like Gundy's all-caps missive, each says a lot about the coach and the program he represents.

  56. Garret:

Programs face a bit of a catch-22 when they put scholarship offers in writing. They want to express their dedication to the prospect, but they also must leave themselves an out in case the prospect's skills decline or in case a better player at the same position decides he wants the scholarship. The basketball programs at Davidson and Northwestern got burned by written offers; the schools had to settle out of court with prospects who sued after the programs reneged on written offers. Hawaii may have a leg to stand on in its defense of a lawsuit from former prospect Daniel Smith, because Smith never received a written offer. Still, to avoid any messy legal squabbles, schools now try to include some kind of disclaimer in their offer letters. Of the 21 letters posted to Forcier's site, only the letter from first-year Washington State coach Paul Wulff did not contain any disclaimer.

The letters from South Florida and Michigan specifically mention NCAA bylaw 15.5.5, which limits programs to 85 scholarships total and 25 signees a year. Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, who has had some recent experience with attorneys, must have had a real legal eagle help him with his letter, which contains the slickest -- and one of the most accurate -- disclaimers of the 21. "This letter remains viable until such time as NCAA Rule 15.5.5 regarding squad limits (85 total) would appear to be compromised," Rodriguez wrote. "Therefore, as a necessary consequence, grants may only be awarded on availability."

The award for brutal honesty goes to Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman, whose longest paragraph addresses the possibility that the program may bail on the offer. "We could fill our scholarships before you make a commitment to accept this offer," Sherman wrote. "Also, we could fill our designated allotment of scholarships at your position before you make a commitment to accept this offer. I assure you, if you are one of the first prospects to accept this scholarship offer, we will honor your commitment to A&M, and firmly count you as one of our prized signees. We will keep you informed of our situation as other prospects also commit to A&M."

  57. Garret:

While some sections of the letters -- the disclaimers, for example -- are pure boilerplate, some coaches made sure to personalize their offers as proof of their true, heartfelt desire to obtain Forcier's signature on a letter-of-intent. Paterno, Rodriguez, Wisconsin's Bret Bielema and Baylor's Art Briles all included handwritten notes beneath their signature. Other coaches offered their cell phone numbers and told Forcier to call anytime. Still others offered the cell phone number of a position coach and told Forcier to call that guy anytime.

To prove they embrace the traditions of the programs they represent, some coaches signed off with the school's catch phrase. Where other coaches wrote "Sincerely," Texas A&M's Sherman wrote "Gig 'em." Bielema wrote "On Wisconsin," Baylor's Briles wrote "Sic 'em Bears," LSU's Les Miles wrote "Geaux Tigers" and Auburn's Tommy Tuberville wrote "WAR EAGLE!"

  58. Garret:

This is the recruit's website, where you can click on the school and see the scholarship offer letter.

  59. Garret:

I'm glad that he blocked out the phone numbers for the coaches.

  60. Garret:

I really do hope that this guy commits to Florida. If he breaks their national trophy and still commits to Miami, that would be pretty bad for Florida.

It was Plant High tight end Orson Charles who broke your 2006 BCS National Championship trophy Friday in Gainesville.

"If you were outside the stadium, it was so loud, I think you would've heard it shatter," Charles said. "Nobody said anything for 10 minutes, then Florida assistant Coach John Hevesy said, 'What do I do? Who do I call? Did you know that was $35,000!'

"I just stood there with this baby look and said, 'Sorry.' Then he joked and said, 'You've got to commit to Florida now.'"

Charles, who will be a senior at Plant next season, has 16 Division I offers. He ranks Miami first on his list, but shortly after breaking the crystal he said Meyer joked about the mishap by asking, "How does it feel to be a Gator?" Charles said Meyer assured him insurance will replace the trophy.

Before Charles broke the trophy, Plant coach Robert Weiner said Meyer asked him to describe Charles. Weiner told Meyer that Charles was a "physical specimen" but sometimes a "bull in a china shop."

"After what happened," Weiner said, "I'm sure Urban now thinks I'm an excellent evaluator of talent."

  61. Garret:

The SEC conference schedule is amazingly tough, probably the toughest for any conference. Clemson apparently doesn't think it is tough enough because they will be playing 2 nonconference games against SEC teams each year for 7 straight years! I guess that reduces the chances that UH will play a game against a SEC team, as they will be filling their schedule with other SEC teams (plus the standard D-IAA home game).

Starting in 2010, the Clemson University football team will have at least two Southeastern Conference opponents on its schedule for seven consecutive seasons, the school said today.

Clemson is scheduled to face Auburn in 2010 and 2011, Vanderbilt in 2012 and 2013, Georgia in 2013 and 2014 and Mississippi in 2015 and 2016.

  62. Garret:

Nice thing that Georgia's coach is doing...this time 20 of his players will be helping.

Everywhere Georgia football players go this offseason, they are bound to hear talk about their chances of making a run for the national title.

Well, except for the more than 20 players who will join coach Mark Richt next month on a five-day mission trip to Honduras.

Richt is returning to the Latin American country for the second straight year after going with his family last June. Nobody asked for his autograph during his stay in Guaimaca with the World Baptist Missions and he wasn't recognized on vacation for the first time since he arrived at Georgia.

The missionaries operate Hospital Bautista, run a feeding program, a water ministry, day care center, a pastor-training program and a church-planting ministry.

"We're always at the mercy of what they want us to do," Richt said. "Usually you take the morning and you spend time doing some kind of work around the compound there. In the afternoon, we usually do some evangelistic work."

The trip has been given the OK by Georgia's compliance office, Richt said, to ensure the players weren't getting an extra benefit. There is no TV, phones or air conditioning at the site.

This is for Jason: Mel Kiper vs. Todd McShay face-off.

The two main Gods in our heretical-NFL Pantheon are Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay. And since The World-Wide Leader is parading these two around the various arms of the organization, we decided it's time to figure out who the real draft expert is around Bristol, Connecticut and the rest of the universe. You can also go vote on The Big Lead, but we like to talk about "the issues" and tackle the big questions here at Rumors and Rants. So here it is, the battle to be known as THE draft expert of the Milky Way.

I am confused. How can Blaze say that he is a little out of shape because he wasn’t running too much. But Clore says they wake up at 4 am and go running. I don’t get it.

    rage777,

I believe the article was talking about how Blaze and Clore worked out together *last year*, going running early in the morning. That was last year, not this year, which is why you got confused.

  66. Garret:

Last summer, they prepared for the fall practices with a rigorous regimen of weight lifting and running.

"We'd get up at 4 in the morning and run," Clore said. "Sometimes, we'd drag tires on the beach."

  67. Garret:

    bighilofan2,

I'm sure that the players have classes around noon, so Mack cannot have practice then. That is why they either have to practice in the morning or in the afternoon (like how JJ has practices at 4pm at SMU). It is probably a lot hotter at 4pm than 7am...I know if California the peak temperature seems to be around 3pm or so, and I remember how Austin temperatures didn't drop much until after 7pm. In the summer, it would be above 85 degrees at midnight! The only time the temperature would be cool in Austin in the summer would be early in the morning.

  68. Garret:

Back to work for me...sorry for taking over the blog for a little while, but nobody else was posting and I had to get a lot in before 10am here.

  69. Annoddah Dave:

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,

Sorry, to hear about Colt not getting reimbursed for travel. He probably forgot to submit 3 copies of his itinerary, 5 copies of his Eticket boarding pass, 2 copies of his approval by the AD to fly separately, a copy of his birth certificate, a self addressed stamped envelope, 4 copies of his luggage tags, receipts for any meals while on travel, 2 copies of rental car agreement, and copy of his Hawaii Driver's License. This must be submitted with a bull dog clip attaching all documents in order along with the official UH Reimbursement for Travel Form UH-234 hut hut! The submission will also include a notarized note from Mommy to travel alone! Documents must be submitted no later than 3 days after completion of travel. Extension of submission time will require, Head Coach submission of Travel Documentation Extension Request UH Form-GAWN2SMU!

  76. what's wrong:

Back to work for me…sorry for taking over the blog for a little while, but nobody else was posting and I had to get a lot in before 10am here.

    What's wrong with this picture?

Since when was 30 minutes a llitle while. I suggest you post in shorter intervals when ever you have all your loaded stuff ready to unload to whoever really reads this stuff in its entirety.

You do seem to overtake the blog and people just tend to run away. Show some courtesy for others and this blog, brah.

If it was that great, the stuff you whip out on us, then you should create your own blog instead of using this place for your own fantasy.

    das what's wrong.

  77. Kekoa:

    Good Morning Tsaiko Crew!

#1 Son flew in from Alaska late last night with his family in tow. They said it was snowing in Anchorage when they left...as if was anything new. I think he brought us the wet part of that storm.

Pops goes in at 10:00 AM for his Spring training at the "Jason Elam Sports Training Center" here in Kapolei. For the uninitiated, it was named in honor of the former kicker for UH/DB, and is an obscure little office near the town Library.

  78. Pomai:

Whoa whats wrong you need for chill out litto bit

  79. Pomai:

    Garret now worry, give'um

  80. al:

    ouch.

somebody got up with a hair in the wrong place.

can't we all just get along?

  81. Stretch:

al - at least everyone knows you are not talking about Bulla

  82. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Good morning everybody! :)
Thank goodness that we have a new era in leadership at UH under JD. In a nutshell, Herman Frazier's legacy is the biggest problem that Jim Donovan faces now, from facilities to budget deficits, and things like the items posted above. It has been refreshing to see the honesty, candor and humility of Mr. Donovan now replacing the arrogance, deceit and disregard which charachterized his predecessor.

  83. isleboy:

Hey Stephen....Are you wearing your Sugar Bowl ring? Bobby Curran is....
Imagine a year ago Hawaii Media were chanting in unison....NO WAY!! would the Warriors go undefeated or end in Sugar Bowl....Now you all got Sugar Bowl rings....LOL

  84. Koauka:

    al:

somebody need a haircut. cut that loose hair close.

Garret's post is like cliff notes to me. I can get "THE REAL STORIES."

  85. Koauka:

What ST and Bobby got rings. That's BREAKING NEWS!

  86. Da Punchbowl Kid:

I enjoy da human spam machine myself. Even his off topic stuff is interesting. To really appreciate him though, you need to be here when there is a question you need answered; Garret's ALWAYS on top of things...

  87. Stretch:

I would be VERY disappointed if ST & BC received football rings as gifts. How can UH buy rings for the media but can't buy something for the members of the softall team??

  88. Koauka:

    ST:

May I have a replica model? The $100 model w/the cheap jewels?

  89. Koauka:

    Stretch:

In all seriousness, that is VERY, VERY true!

  90. al:

stretch...can you imagine bulla with hair???

    har, har, har.

kid...following hf is easy. anything you do is welcomed. it is easier to follow a fumbler than someone who did his job well.

koauka...maybe we could borrow the ring to impress our clients.

  91. Koauka:

    Al:

Me, impress anybody. But Stretch has a point.

  92. al:

back to the game....i am trying to convince some maui people to come on down for the 26th.

on another note...all the repositioning of starters is a good start for this team. it really tells the team that you work hard, you know your alignment and assignments and the door really is open for you. that is a great way to send the message and philosophy of this mack attack era.

  93. Stretch:

I am not trying to condemn ST & BC if they have the rings, to me it is no problem. The problem is that UH chooses not to pay for something for the softball and other WAHINE WAC CHAMPION teams.

  94. LizKauai [Believer]:

For everything that makes us move, there is the opportunity to enjoy the stillness.
For every five hundred of Garret's informative, interesting and convenient posts, there is one criticism.

    We are all Tsai-kos :-)

  95. Stretch:

    Okay enough about that.

Time for me to get back to work since gigi & her boss is keeping track of me.

  96. Koauka:

    Stretch:

Other BCS schools sell replic rings to the fans......another way to make some bucks.
And not awarding a women's team for a championship, I dare to say, Title IX?

  97. Kekoa:

    Al ~

I can't wait to see what the break down is going to be for the Slam Fest on the 26th. I hope they release the team roster by Wednesday of next week so we can drool over the offense and defensive possibilities for each side.

  99. Kekoa:

Ok...gotta roll. You chirrun play nice inside da Tsaiko Playhouse or Aunty Esme goin' swoop down and spank your 'kole!...Garret please read to the class while I'm away so Aunty Esme no grumble.

  100. Jammer:

    Hey gang...

Just wanted to say Good Morning Tsaikos...

Hope all is well....busy, busy, busy so gotta roll for now....

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  101. LizKauai [Believer]:

    Hi Jammer! Long time,no see!

  102. XxFaithxX:

No matter what JD says, we should have another audit of the HF years.

    Why?

Because even after he is gone, we are still finding out crap that he did wrong and or just did not do. who knows what else we will find down the road. If those yearly audits from an independant co. missed the smaller details about the Sugar Bowl and other prior things, are they really a valid source?

Administrative and financial aspects all screwed up.

What does Mcnamara and Clapp have to say about this?

Lots of questions and NO ONE answering them.

    Whos money is this anyways?

    OUR MONIES!!

Yeah, no one likes to live in the past and we all want to move forward, but are we just going to "gaman' ;endure this? Isn't this what HF wants us to do? I'm sure he really wants us Hawai`i people to live up to our stereotypes and say 'nah nah, no worries, its all good'

  103. FloridaTed:

    Good afternoon, Tsaikos and Tsai-Meister,

It is totally amazing to me the incredible incompetence by HF, as more and more of it comes to light. It is beyond me, how this man could get away with such tremendous shibai for so long. This whole thing borders on criminal, deliberate appearing, negligence.

  104. Pomai:

It sure would be nice if we haven't given the fumbler his bonus, would hold on to it to see that in fact he earned it and not fudged the numbers to make it look like he balanced the budget, which we know he did not do. AH poop I thought we where through with that idiot.

  105. Esme:

    Hey, Tsaikos, g'morning!

Hey, Tsaikos who used my name in vain in the past nine hours ... Ok, now I really gotta "get da slippa" ...

(That quote reminds me... where's Pomai these days? Did he get lost in the migration?)

    --

Anyway, FloridaTed and others who called HF's fumbles criminal: I'm witchoo. The thing that frustrates me is that ... I thought lies spoken to a legislative body are supposed to be cause for prosecution or at least reprimand or somesuch. But because he was dismissed before his distortions were brought to light by JD in past weeks ... he escapes punishment?

What a mess. What a shame.

    --

OK, you know the deal these days. I'm here. I'm out. Hi ho, hi ho, l'dat.

Despite the gloomy skies and gloomy news ... I really hope every Tsaiko has a good day today. And look on the bright side: Only two days to the K-call, only nine days to the Tsaikogate! :D

  106. Stephen Tsai:

Dylan Linkner chat is about to begin.

  107. Stephen Tsai:

Linkner chat is on the other post.

  108. Esme:

Speak of the guy ... there's Pomai! How is THAT?! I somehow made him appear!

    Wassup, Pomai!

  109. LizKauai [Believer]:

ST- can't get into the Linkner chat until HA puts up a direct link on the opinion/blogs page.
Still getting the questionnaire to nowhere.
