Clinic is the hot ticket

April 18th, 2008
By Stephen Tsai

Tomorrow's first UH football coaches clinic is proving to be  overwhelmingly popular — too much, perhaps.

As of yesterday, UH received about 350 paid applications for  the all-day clinic, which features seminars and one-on-one sessions with the UH  coaches. Many more walk-up applications are expected tomorrow morning. At $10 a ticket — with all of the money covering the food, refreshments and material — this is one of the best bargains in a while.

The auditorium, where the coaches will meet, seats 200. UH will look for alternative rooms. Stan Sheriff Center? That's what one of the UH workers suggested.

In any case, the clinic shows the high popularity of Warrior football.

I wonder if it'll help a late 50' ish person. The speed clinic I mean :wink

  4. Addahknowsports:

    Good Morning Tsaikos!

    Jojo-

Good...thanks for asking. Good to see you are still around. Been busy?

  5. Koauka:

Sounds like good times, an introduction to Hawaii Football, that may pay a ton of dividends for the future.

maybe i'll try to sneak in. i get $10. just got paid today. hmmmm?

  6. gigi-hawaii ©:

I had to fill out the questionnaire again to get into the comments section. I thought it had been deleted. Why has it appeared again?

Oh well, this time it allowed me to pass Go.

  7. gigi-hawaii ©:

ST, you didn't mention how well you did on the Local Grindz test. Hope you did better than the others in the newsroom.

  11. Stephen Tsai:

    I haven't taken it yet.
But I promise I won't be as whiney as Stacy Kaneshiro and say: "Oh, it's too small. I can't see the picture."

  12. Stephen Tsai:

    We all set for tomorrow?
    There's a sorta-sorta scrimmage, and then it's off to fa-la-la-la night.

  13. Addahknowsports:

    Jojo-

    Gambate ne!

I finally passed the test when I was doing my reading for ES 330, and it mentioned teriyaki. That was the key word I was missing for a couple. And nishime. So I supplemented my Tsaiko education with UH education. :-)

al: If you were talking to me, I know the Mamas and the Papas. Not a big fan, but they are alright.

Stretch: I think I'll be there at Call the Coach on Monday. Should I model my jersey? ;-)

  15. Jason:

I might be able to make it to practice tomorrow. All I know is that it's going to be a long day. Math meet in the morning, karaoke at night.

  16. Stretch:

Jason - if you wear the jersey, don't forget to bring your pillow and blanket since it will look like you are wearing a nightgown.

  17. Koauka:

Heard the replay of the JJ interview on Leahey and Leahey at 8:30am. I wish all the haters heard what June said. But when I think about it, no sense, because a lot of minds were made up. I think many here know the numerous accomplishments during his coaching career produced. From 0-12 to 9-4 and a win over Oregon State in the Hawaii Bowl in 1999. And in 2007, a WAC Championship, an undefeated season, and a trip to a BCS Bowl, the Sugar Bowl.

But like JJ said, the haters will only remember the Sugar Bowl loss, his resignation, and the bolt to bucks at SMU. And now the debacle of the $400K JJ owes UH. All of this drama because the former AD makes a verbal agreement to keep the $$$$.
Per June, Hinshaw and McClain are taking this to litigation to get the money back.
June said, Hinshaw, in her position, can only make judgement on what is written.

Didnt Hinshaw and McClain just pay off the fake AD $300K and few weeks of office space, plus bonuses. Bonuses earned by the performance of his coaches and players. And the so called, profit, made during his regime, is actually a possible $6 million dollar loss. Like others said earlier here, isnt this fraud. In private businees, if the CEO or principal did this, owners and stakeholders would look for a lynching.

June is doing the right think. Make the upper campus whistle for the money. Call your legal, eagle team collect the cash. Fly to Dallas and go get it.

Ooops, I keep forgeting, this is a state entity. Always award and promote the screw ups and ones who "talk a good story." Ones who produce and get the job done, get a ton of fustration. Been there. Just gotta be happy a got a job and can sleep at night with a clear conscience.

ok time to take da anger mgt pill

  18. Stretch:

Jason - no forget the baseball doubleheader starting at 1, football practice at 330 in between, then karaoke at 7. No forget so sleep early tonight and rest up.

  19. Stephen Tsai:

    OK, I got 35.
Which means I'm eligible to be an editor, news director or associate athletic director.

  20. Jason:

I don't think I can make the baseball game. I do want to take my oldest niece to one of the games in a few weeks. I took her to a game during the summer at Aloha Stadium (I forget what league that was), and she got a foul ball. (Then again, I think there were five of us there.) :-)

Hey, ST, congrats! Not bad for a New York transplant like yourself.

  23. Jason:

Stephen, you are now on Tsaiko probation. Only 35? You've been hanging around Herman Frazier for too long.

If things keep up like this, we might have to oust you. Brother Mike can take over, or Princess Leila.

  24. Stephen Tsai:

Well, my downfall, like in most things, is my spelling.
Hey, how do we get our regular readers to take the test? Can Stretch post a link that we can post here?

  25. LizKauai [Believer]:

  28. J:

what questionnaire? On the otherhand I can't click on any of Garret's links from the iPhone. Three weeks without a computer. I wonder how I going manage...

  29. Koauka:

Cleared the cache twice. Even closed IE and restarted. Finally about 7:30pm - success. But still, I get the feeling da buggah go show up again.

  30. Stretch:

ST - I am not a computer person. Not sure how to link up the excel file. Maybe SteveM can put it on his site and people can go there to check it out??

It doesn't make it a rude car, it makes HF a thief!!

  31. Koauka:

    ST:

It is not a rude car, it is called a FELONY. File your report with your local HPD officer.

  32. Stephen Tsai:

We all know I never use "irony" correctly.

    No backdoor to Hawaii Moms.

  35. Koauka:

Maybe its for prehistoric Moanalua graduates.

  36. gigi-hawaii ©:

  43. gigi-hawaii ©:

ST, it's OK to post instructions on your blog entry. We can read it without answering the survey. It's just when we want to enter the comment section that we have to answer the survey.

  44. al:

    okay....i am thinking.

if we want to have 25 to 30 thousand screaming fans for the first ever spring game don't you think we need to step up the marketing plan yesterday????

i have talking it up and have found that many friends, family, and fans had no idea of the 26th.

for now, i believe that part of the hype is missing in the who's the quarterback because we all know that even though tyler will probably emerge as numero uno after spring it is still not his until alexander and rausch make a pitch for number one.

same goes for the wide receivers and maybe a corner.

but, hey we need to pound the sand to get the hype going real soon.

they need to push some ink and multi-media blitzes. it would be worth while if they couple the event with a one time season ticket special.

    ...nuff said

  45. gigi-hawaii ©:

Al, interesting that you predict Tyler will be #1 QB. I feel the same way. Just my gut instinct.

  46. Koauka:

Sorry Liz, went through Island life, then to the ballot, then the link to Hawaii Moms.

My wrist is sore. Index finger sore.

  47. Koauka:

    Al:

That's my point. Aint Johnny Mac in charge of marketing. He has no initiative
    to do this.

Sorry JM fans, he gotta go. Proactive rather reactive.

  48. homey ® says:

Three hundred fifty plus applicants for the clinic is brain cell boggling!

Stretch - ST could ask that the excel file be hosted on the 'Tizer servers but then it would really slow down the blog. If anything, they should swap out the existing questionnaire with the local grindz q-naire.

You're kidding right. What makes it so difficult to turn off?

  53. al:

    koauka....
even the press will have huge decisions in the coming week regarding where their ink will go to.

    colt brennan prospects?

    or

    warrior spring game?

    how can the satisfy both?
i think they have to satisfy both.

i think if they haven't they need to get the spring game rosters and publish them like they do for any regular season game.

that's part of the hype and they (HA) could sell ad space on the rosters.

someone needs to see what the big time programs do to get 70-90 thousand fans for their spring game. you want to be big time you gotta act big time.

we need to have the new under armour gear available for sell at this game already. although it may be too early at this point, the game that is.

    ah. what do i know?

see you all at the game!!

  54. LizKauai [Believer]:

  58. gigi-hawaii ©:

I am always disappointed when there are barriers to would-be commenters. The HA survey is a barrier that is difficult to overcome. Other blogs require the blogger to register with Google.

My blog (Wordpress) requires only the blogger's name and email address. That's it.

    So simple.

New Bowl may start as early as this season--the Rocky Mountain Bowl. I don't think the NCAA will approve all of the proposals, because if new bowls start in Salt Lake, DC, and St. Pete, there really might not be enough bowl-eligible teams to fill the bowls!

If the NCAA Licensing Subcommittee approves a proposal for the "Rocky Mountain Bowl," the Cougars or Utes (or any other Mountain West Conference team) could end up facing a Western Athletic Conference foe in a postseason game at Rice-Eccles Stadium — possibly as early as this December.

A Salt Lake City group led by David Viveiros has contacted both conferences to gauge initial interest and has submitted a proposal to the NCAA for certification. It's currently being evaluated and reviewed by a subcommittee. Approval or denial could come as soon as April 29 at licensing meetings in Florida.

USA Today reported that groups from Washington, D.C., and St. Petersburg, Fla., have also submitted proposals to the subcommittee for certification. The media outlet noted that seven bowl-eligible teams were left out of the 32 sanctioned games last season.

  65. homey ® says:

  66. Garret:

BSU just raised ticket prices a pretty significant amount. 27% to 42.5% increases in ticket prices in just 2 years is pretty steep.

The exploding costs of running an athletic department are behind the latest price hike for football season tickets, Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier said Thursday.

Boise State has increased season ticket prices for 2008 by 5.9 to 14.3 percent based on per-game prices. The average increase is between 9 and 10 percent, Bleymaier said.

Season tickets in the main part of Bronco Stadium cost $283, or $46 per game. Those tickets cost $42 per game in 2007 and $36.17 per game in 2006. That's a 9.5 percent increase since last year and a 27.2 percent jump in two years. Some tickets require a Bronco Athletic Association membership.

The cheapest season tickets, in the end zone, cost $157 or $25 per game. Those have increased 8.7 percent since last year and 30.4 percent in two years.

The popular family plans are $90 per game. Those have soared 42.5 percent in two years, absorbing the largest increase each year.

  71. Garret:

This Rivals article has some relevant content.

Personally, I'm intrigued to see what June Jones can do at SMU, which managed only one victory last season but returns a quarterback with the ability to put up big passing numbers. That is, assuming Justin Willis, whom Jones suspended for the spring, returns to the team this fall.

Of course, Hawaii's Greg McMackin and Navy's Ken Niumatalolo are facing the tough task of following extremely successful coaches. That's never easy. Ask Louisville's Steve Kragthorpe.

  72. Garret:

The Patriots might draft Colt...I hadn't heard that their coaches like Colt until this article. That is probably something that the coaches wouldn't want other teams to know! The writer says that Colt should be available in the late rounds, but if it is known that many coaching staffs like Colt, then his draft stock will climb quickly.

A quarterback to keep an eye on is Hawaii's Colt Brennan. The Patriots are said to really like the all-time leading passer in Division I history and he should be around in the late rounds due to a poor performance at the Senior Bowl. Brennan also has the stigma of playing in a pass-happy, shotgun offense in college but he's known for his intelligence and accuracy. With proper coaching, Brennan could be groomed to be a solid NFL backup, something New England sorely lacks at the moment.

  73. homey ® says:

  74. Garret:

    Tombo's blog got a nice shout-out here.

In Hawaii I am sure they are longing for Yesterday, but without Colt Brennan and his cast of characters, including June Jones, the Warriors are trying to find out in practice what kind of team they will have this year. This team will have to travel to Florida to play the Gators early in the season, ouch! This Hawaii football blog is a good source of info for the Warriors and how they are progressing through the 2008 Spring practice drills.

  76. Garret:

This game must have been brutal on the pitcher's arm and on the official scorer. The regular scorecards I have used in the past would not have been able to handle so many batters in one inning!

A Japanese high school pleaded for a regional game to be abandoned after surrendering 66 runs in less than two innings, local media reported on Thursday.

The coach of Kawamoto technical high school threw in the towel to spare his pitcher’s arm with his team losing 66-0 with just one batter out in the bottom of the second.

The hapless hurler had already sent down over 250 pitches, allowing 26 runs in the first inning and 40 in the second before Kawamoto asked for mercy.

“At that pace the pitcher would have thrown around 500 pitches in four innings,” Kawamoto’s coach was quoted as saying. “There was a danger he could get injured.”

Opponents Shunshukan were officially credited with a 9-0 victory, giving the scoreline a tinge of respectability for the luckless Kawamoto school.

  77. Garret:

This writer disagrees with ESPN about Ryan Leaf being the biggest NFL draft bust ever.

There’s just no way. He wasn’t even the first pick, he didn’t win a Heisman (or finish 2nd), he played at Washington State, and best we can tell, the only people who were frothing over the guy were “analysts.” The guy had a cannon for an arm but … did we mention Washington State?

In our opinion, here’s how you determine a bust: College acclaim + being the No. 1 pick and having lower picks outshine you (the third QB taken in 1998 was Charlie Batch, and he went 60th)+ horrible stats.

Just some thoughts: Tim Couch, because he went first overall (and ahead of McNabb, Culpepper and Aaron Brooks), probably ranks as the biggest draft bust of all-time; Michigan State’s Charles Rogers was a worse No. 2 than Leaf; Lawrence Phillips wasn’t a bust, he was just a criminal; Tony Mandarich, thanks to the SI cover, deserves to be in the top five, and Blair Thomas easily is higher than 22, considering he went 2nd overall and Dallas grabbed Emmitt at 17.

When I am singing, it should be a formal affair, with everyone remaining silent as work my magic. Standing ovations will be allowed AFTER I have sung, however, because I realize that you all may want to express your profound appreciation.

Now then, when everybody else is singing, we may all sing along and be the rowdy, slobberin' drunk, happy go lucky Tsaikotics we are. Jeans and Tee Shirts will be acceptable as attire. ;)

    Sugar Bowl rings:

Is it true that Tsai and Kekaula getting rings or is some one pulling my leg?

With all due respects to both gentlemen, they should NOT receive a UH Sugar Bowl ring. IMHO, only those coaches, players, and support personnel such as the medical volunteers should be eligible to receive a ring.

If you begin to identify people "outside" the program, what about the hundreds of individuals who have donated tens of thousands of dollars to Na Koa or Koa Nuenue to support the Warriors?

Why would "other" sports reporters be awarded a UH WAC championship ring?

Real or not, in whose opinion were these individuals receipiants of something in which they had NO sweat and tears in achieving? It's like giving a war correspondent a medal for winning a war.

If it was "goodwill", it really distorts all the hard work of the coaches and players and support personnel.

  114. J:

I'm going to take a wild guess and figure that a WAC Championship Ring is different than a Sugar Bowl ring. Some bowls give out rings as gifts though I don't think that was one of the items listed for the last one.

  115. ralvic:

    Good Afternoon

In regards to Representative Abercrombie introducing a resolution in Congress to look into how the BCS has an unfair advantage over non BCS schools I think is a great idea.Twice before this resolution was brought before Congress and was shot down.My only wish is that other people of influence can lend there support in showing that the division between the BCS schools, basically separates the have and have nots. I wish other people of influence would show their support in quashing the BCS school's desire in segregating the haves and have nots.So in theory only the BCS schools will always have the lion's share of the bowl payouts, which is not a good thing for the non BCS schools.

When Georgia played Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl the disparity in payouts is unjustified.Hawaii received 4 million and Georgia 17 million. The WAC members received 400k per team. And SEC teams shared a lot more. The SEC conference winner is automatically aligned to a big bowl game. And the other member in the conference will always have a big share of the pie.So in theory the BCS schools will always have a huge payouts from the Bowl games with the worst teams in the BCS conferences receiving big monies, too. And if the lure of having the best athletic facilities and best coaches attracts the best athletes in the country then the schools having the payouts from the big bowl games can do this. Since all the good monies
are tied up in the top five conference bowl games .The five conferences will always be saturated with the best athletes because that's where the big cheese of wax is. Really the playing field is not fair and I thank Rep.Abercrombie for introducing this matter in Congress.

In closing,I personally appeal to the big advertisers of the BCS Bowl games to see it in their hearts that there is an appearances of impropriety where a few teams and the top conferences will perpetually have the bests foods on the table,so to speak, attract the best athletes and students to their campuses because of...what...entitlement. ..And,mean while lesser schools, non BCS schools, are stigmatized in being a non BCS school which in the name itself bespeaks of being impoverished and at a disadvantage. And it's so ever true.
How hard is it to recruit-and say, yeah we're a non BSC school?
For All State Insurance, the big sponsor of the Bowl games ,understandably will not want to stick their noses into this matter because, like the NCAA,it's all about making money. But I would think that if it wasn't for Representative Abercrombie and a few of the writer around the country that they,All State Insurance,is on the edge of their seat. The more notoriety and rightfull sheding of light on this subject has to weigh on the advertiser's minds, too. Which is a good thing for all the non BCS schools, including Hawaii.

It would be nice if HF decides to return his "budget bonus" because it appears that there is no "surplus', but a huge deficit. Does this amount to fraud? What about the people who put the budget together showing a surplus when in fact there is none.

Even if he did this and testified about the $400K dispute, this does not, IMHO, square not returning the car(s) at the end of the 90 day period beyond his termination date. It's a totally different matter which includes integrity.

I listened to JJ on Lehay & Lehay this morning about the termination clause. If it was agreed, why did not HF amend the contract to show the verbal agreement. Like JJ said, all the "key" players are no longer with UH.

It appears that his ghost will haunt us for a long time and it will damper all the good things JD and Coach Mack are doing for the Warrior program and all UH sports.

  122. Stephen Tsai:

    RE: Karaoke Call Dress

    My two cents: wear anything.

I think it would look nice if all the Tsai-kettes who have their ladies model Tsai-ko shirts (like Liz's) wear them. The guys could wear the Tsai-ko/Manoa Poi Company shirts or other Tsai-ko shirt.

Maybe Blog Party 4 in July would be black Tsai-ko apparel?

  131. LizKauai [Believer]:

Note to self- don't buy bling for ST's special occasions... check.

  132. gigi-hawaii ©:

If there were a Tsaiko muumuu, I'd wear it. Hint-hint!

  133. Stephen Tsai:

    Rings:
As far as I know everybody is eligible to buy a ring.
There were two orders. One for the players, coaches, staff, administrators, etc. UH paid for those rings. However, because of the lengthy procurement process, Na Koa paid for the order. UH then was to reimburse Na Koa.
The second order was for everybody else.
About two weeks after he was hired, Mack called and said he wanted to give me a ring. He made similar offers to others.
    I told him I couldn't accept a free ring.
But after chatting with others, including a reporter from a competing paper, I figured I'd buy one. I was going to give it away as a blog prize, but then my son said he wanted it. So I figured, OK, I'll get it for him. But if he tires of it, and he's 14, I figure I can still give it away. I need a tax writeoff, anyway.

  134. LizKauai [Believer]:

gigi- THAT can be arranged. But you have to come to a karaoke call to pick it up

  135. gigi-hawaii ©:

  139. Stephen Tsai:

However, if people really want to remember the season, they may buy "The Perfect Season," a book that is apparently selling like day-old hotcakes.
I think I'm the leading buyer. I bought, like 18, which I gave away.

  140. Kazz:

  141. gigi-hawaii ©:

  146. SteveM:

Hi gang. Yes... we joined the Bulla team in scouting out the room and facilities. I will send out an email later today with the findings and what updates I have received. Everything is positive and we should be comfortable enough.

The long counter and bar stool counter area in the back of the room is larger than the photo indicated, so there should be no problem with ice chests and fuud goodies. BTW, Kekoa has dibs on bringing a 96-quart ice chest for his, Koakane, and homeys suds :) All other ice chests should be smaller and "sharing" is recommended.

  147. Stephen Tsai:

    Gigi:
    The pictures are really good.
It should have been a photo book only.
Even though the title is a misnomer, I think it's one of those things you buy, store away, and it'll mean stuff years later.
That's why everyone should go to the RainbowTique and buy all of those Sugar Bowl hats and T-shirts, the ones marked down to $5. You'll wish you did 10 years from now.

  148. Garret:

Wow, Garret- nomo 10 run rule in Japan???

    Liz,

The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that the pitcher gave up 66 runs and threw 250+ pitches in less than 2 innings...and the manager never replaced him! Doesn't that team have another pitcher they can use? Leaving that pitcher in was bad for the team and horrible for the pitcher's arm!

  149. Loa:

i think it was nice for Coach Mack to offer the rings but even nicer for ST to pay for the ring himself with the thought of giving it away to one of the bloggers

the department should consider selling replicas to the public to raise some funds, don't have to be the exact ring but something similar to show school pride

i remember a certain hs gave watches and jackets to their state champion team but cannot remember who paid for it, don't think it was the league, probably was the boosters and the school

  155. Garret:

The ESPN article really messed up the facts and I've seen a lot of people here post the incorrect information. Georgia did NOT get $17 mil from the Sugar Bowl, that number is WAY, WAY off. UH's $4.4 mil figure is the payout to the school, but the other WAC teams and the other non-BCS conference teams outside the WAC got a piece of it.

If you look at the figures for the Big 12, a Big 12 team earns something like an extra $1.5 mil for playing in a BCS Bowl, above what the school would get anyway from its cut of the Big 12 portion of the BCS money.

Georgia was the second team from the SEC to make it to a BCS Bowl (LSU obviously was the other). If I remember correctly, that means that the SEC got an additional $4.5 mil for having a second team play in a BCS Bowl. UH earned something like $9 mil for making a BCS Bowl, of which about $6 mil went to the WAC and $4.4 mil went to UH.

So, UH made more money by making it to the Sugar Bowl than Georgia did. Much, much more money. But since the ESPN article was so far off the facts, people here have been posting rants that are based on false foundations and our elected representatives have also messed up the facts.

Sorry, I'll stop ranting now. I just hate it when the facts get mangled and people get upset about things after these types of mistakes in reporting.

    Good Afternoon

The attendees of the coaches clinic no doubt are the coaches taking what they learn and passing it on to their players. On all levels of competition,
somewhere in Hawaii the kids will be benefiting. And maybe elsewhere.
Since the clinic is open to the public with no criteria s of who can attend is also a good thing.

With so much good will that the University of Hawaii football staff does in promoting football in the state of Hawaii by doing these coaches and speed and quickness clinics they are really planting the seeds into others to learn. And grow. This is great for the players and the coaches, which in turn effects the quality of play on a levels of football in Hawaii.

And then something dawned on me...and I thought, wow, wouldn't it be a great idea if someone can videotape tomorrow's clinic and pass more good will, and coaching knowledge to our neighbors that can't be here tomorrow. Wouldn't it be aspiring for coaches and kids from Samoa or New Zealand that can look at the tapes of the clinic and gain more insight into coaching. And learn more football fundamentals. So all can benefit.

Even from the standpoint of having tomorrow's clinic videotaped and sent on to Y tube would have a lot of good merits aside from other coaches learning.
But the influence, maybe, that it can have on the recruits.

If there was ever a proclamation of who or what has done a lot for the community and Hawaii. Look no further than at Coach Mack and his staff.
This is really great. And we should be proud of our football leaders and the precedences they are setting by their fostering and caring of Hawaii football on all levels.

i can't believe that this school would make jj pay them $400,000. that's just petty of them. imho, he coached every game last year so he fufilled his contract. he's the greatest coach in our schools history. everything he did with warrior football is still felt today. his fingerprints are all over the program. just because he left for more money doesn't make him a bad coach nor a bad person. the jj haters make me sick!

  224. d1shima:

    homey,

    I just miss that DVD!

  225. WJD:

whatevers, to me, he fufilled the true nature of the contract and that was to not leave early. if he left before the season was over, then i can see them going through with it, but he did not. think about if he did stay until april. he not only screws himself in trying to get another job even though his contract expires, but the school is screwed because no new coach during recruiting season. the only reason it went to april is so it falls into the fiscal budget

  226. d1shima:

    WJD,

From the Chancellor's position she has to protect the interests of the school. Can't afford to set a precedent where verbal claims are allowed to prevail over written contracts.

  227. LizKauai [Believer]:

Oh wait, I think JuJu has my dress

  232. d1shima:

    Let's look at this:

    JJ says he left cause of unfulfilled promises made by HF;
JJ says HF promised him it's OK for him to leave early.

    Hmmmm....

...and where was his big bucks agent in all of this?

  233. gigi-hawaii ©:

homey, UH paid JJ for the fall season and he did his job admirably for that season. UH did not pay JJ for spring semester and JJ did not work during Spring semester.

Why would JJ have to return the money for fall season?

  234. homey ® says:

XLiz - I would say yes because the terms of the contract was never met.

  235. homey ® says:

gigi - What are the terms of the contract?

  236. Thomas Mui:

While I do not think JJ can walk on water, I definitely think JJ is one of the finer minds in football and one who has contributed much to Hawaii not only in football but also in his charitable work.

$400,000 is not chimp-change, let alone petty change.
It's in the contract and everyone, even JJ are bound by the language that was agreed upon (and even reviewed by his attorney or agent).

Contracts are not suggestions. Unfortunately when we give our WRITTEN word, we are bound by it.

    Just my two cents.

  237. LizKauai [Believer]:

jojo- if you and Esme wear your prom dresses....

    We will take pictures!

  238. gigi-hawaii ©:

JJ led the team to a $4.4 million payout to UH. And JJ got nothing from that $4.4 million. Where's the justice in trying to extract $400K from JJ, contract notwithstanding?

  239. d1shima:

Remember when AC Carter woke up one morning and found that his agent failed to follow thru on a contract stip that cost AC $Millions?

The agent made good on the $ to AC.

JJ's agent should now do the same.

  240. gigi-hawaii ©:

I just think UH should be magnanimous and just let JJ go with God's blessing.

  241. LizKauai [Believer]:

xs- but the guy was paid to make SALES. If the goods are not delivered - whose problem is that?
I actually quit a job because I was told to promise service and write up orders to customers when I KNEW from talking to the engineers that there was no plan to bring service to that area.

It happens all the time in the corporate world.

'as why I no work dat kine job no mo.

  242. Bill:

One of the main factors that contributed to JJ leaving was the ineptness of the Fumbler, the procastination of the Fumbler, the unprofessionalism of the Fumbler, the ineffective communication skills of the Fumbler and the Fumbler being a "Legend in his own mind". Now JJ hangs his defense on the $400,000 buck scandal with a verbal agreement allegedly given by the Fumbler. How can anyone with an ounce of a brain rely of the Fumbler? Did that accident take out more of JJ's frontal lobe than we thought?

  243. LizKauai [Believer]:

tommui- you are correct, of course. A deal is a deal.

  244. homey ® says:

gigi - So are you saying that you would forget the $4000 and go with God's blessings because your yard is now nice?

  245. Garret:

gigi - from a contract perspective. Say you paid someone $8000 to re-landscape and fix up the external parts of your house. They completed the landscaping (half of the job) but did not do anything to the house and left. Would you want $4000 back or are you satisfied with a nice yard?

    homey,

That isn't a good analogy because the contract was for $8000 for the season and in this case the contractor only got paid $4000. If your analogy the workers were paid $8000, which wasn't the case--UH paid half the money for half (more than half, actually if you go by months) the job.

JJ did NOT get his full contracted dollars, he got half. If (and probably when) he pays back the $400k penalty, that will mean that he worked last season for free.

Frankly, I'm worried that Upper Campus will take the $400k if JJ pays it back to the school. Look at how some of the Sugar Bowl money will be "re-allocated" to Upper Campus. My suggested compromise from weeks ago was for JJ to donate $400k to Na Koa...that way we know that it will go to support the team AND JJ will get a tax write-off.

  246. Garret:

gigi - So are you saying that you would forget the $4000 and go with God’s blessings because your yard is now nice?

    homey,

I'm not taking gigi's side on this, but I am trying to point out when things are factually wrong. The $4000 you are talking about NEVER GOT PAID to the contractors in your analogy.

  247. gigi-hawaii ©:

    EXCELLENT IDEA, Garret!!!

  248. chawan_cut:

  249. LizKauai [Believer]:

I leave the details to the lawyers.

    GO WARRIORS!

  250. homey ® says:

XLiz - I mis-read your hypothetical situation. The sales rep should be able to keep the bonus and the company should either reimburse the customer or deliver the goods by an agreed upon time.

  251. Garret:

I wish I had a lot of time right now, as I'd like to show the breakdown of the BCS dollars (I researched it before the Sugar Bowl and posted it to the old blog) and go over the penalty clause more. There are some precedents for penalty clauses and college football coaches.

  252. homey ® says:

Garret - it is not an analogy. I'm saying to gigi is if she paid someone $8000 and he only did half the job would she want $4000 back? That's all. Don't read too much into everything.

  253. chawan_cut:

  257. homey ® says:

  258. WreckinEyez:

Why is stevem going to put the test on his website? I am just wondering...

Anywho... Homey, I would never pay some one half for only the half of work they did... The whole job was agreed upon and if they didn't do it then they didn't do the job period... Not related to the JJ caes of course...

JJ did get verbel permission from HF and his taunts made it even more binding for JJ to out there and get offers. no matter if JJ was the god-like football figure in the story... HF was turthfully his boss and much higher up the ladder.

  259. gigi-hawaii ©:

Prime example is the growing wealth of China and when they start talking other nations have to start listening. Is China tasting the ideals of capitalism

Those who control the NCAA behind the scenes are not easy to push around. Money & Political connections.

Good luck to those 3 senators from Hawaii, Idaho and Georgia who are questioning the NCAA in regards to the BCS playoffs. Interesting Georgia, it must not be the money but the idea of being the champion and no less.

However would any school play in a championship game and give their piece of the financial take to another university such as UH?

Or would they rather play for the championship and receive an amount of money that all schools will share equally who participates in that sport?

Or play in the championship game and receive their $13 to $15 million?

Is having your cake and eating it too sounds like the answer?

Wonder what the terms are wherein it spells out the epxiration date of same; is it end of football season? or end of fiscal year? or a specific date such as 6/30/08?

UH had to pay HF the $300K because his contract said so; his termination was 90 days BEFORE the end of contract.

I, for one, do not consider $400K chump change; it can do a lot of improvements for the current football staff including recruiting budget.

I agree, d1shima. As I have been saying for weeks...if you think the people who are here have problems, what about all the people who are not here? Can't count who is not here...unless I manually do that and subtract it from the 1,500 known local/mainland/international posters. No way to count the lurkers who are not here.

I suppose it is more obvious to me because I maintain a database of posters. It used to be a chore--sometimes 20+ new ones in a day. Usually 4-8 new ones a day. I have entered 14 new in the entire month of April so far. Since I recognize most names, I have noticed many less frequent posters not here since we shifted.

Of course the comment count is way down. Although today is past 300, try counting the number of different posters. I think Jason did a sample once--the number 80 (different posters) per blog entry sticks in my head.

    Liz,
Not sure about that. Kinda "short" song, eh?

  361. gigi-hawaii ©:

First time hearing Into the West video. Kind of too slow for me. I guess I prefer fox trot tunes made popular by Sinatra. Can't recall their titles right now, but back in the 1990s, hubby and I liked to dance to fox trot. He has excellent rhythm for dancing.

  362. gigi-hawaii ©:

If hubby ever goes to a K call, ask him to sing Moon River, our fave. He likes to play it on the clarinet too.

  363. Esme:

    d1,

You know I love those "Phantom" songs. But just to listen to — they're waaaaay outta my register to sing. They require Liz's soprano range, methinks. I'm actually an alto who's almost more comfortable singing ... tenor. Seriously. :D

OK, Esme- I can sing low register stuff too.
And Karen Carpenter stuff is good - Billy Joel is great -

  373. Esme:

I LOVE Broadway stuff, actually: "Rent," "Phantom," "Miss Saigon," "Godspell" and others all have been played constantly and cherished over here.

But sadly, I haven't the polished voice to sing them decently.

Anyway, I also can't imagine starting the game in Florida without Graunke as QB. As much as I like Funaki, the win in Nevada and the positive performance in the Sugar Bowl ensures that Graunke will be running the show at the Swamp. Followed however with some very close competition that may win out by the end of the year.

The University of Pittsburgh Blue-Gold spring football game will follow the Tech spring football game on the NFL Network beginning at 5 p.m. from Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

  425. Garret:

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is looking into the possible health hazards of lead in artificial turf installed at schools, parks and stadiums across the country.

Two fields in New Jersey were closed this week after state health officials detected what they said were unexpectedly high levels of lead in the synthetic turf and raised fears that athletes could swallow or inhale fibers or dust from the playing surface.

Pigment containing lead chromate is used in some surfaces to make the grass green and hold its color in sunlight. But it is not clear how widely the compound is used. The New Jersey Health Department found lead in both of the nylon fields it tested, but in none of the 10 polyethylene surfaces it examined.

But Rick Doyle, president of the Synthetic Turf Council, said the lead is fixed in place in the nylon and does not leach out, and thus poses no health risk. He also said that in recent years, manufacturers have begun offering lead-free nylon surfaces.

Two fields in New Jersey -- Frank Sinatra Park in Hoboken and a playing surface at the College of New Jersey in Ewing -- were voluntarily closed after state health officials found up to 10 times the amount of lead that is allowed in soil on contaminated sites that are being turned into homes. The government has no standard for how much lead is allowable in artificial turf.

A city-owned field in Newark was closed last fall after similar test results; officials there are replacing the surface.

Lead can cause brain damage and other illnesses, particularly in children.

  426. d1shima [sez:]:

Was there a comment earlier about some videos coming soon?

  427. Garret:

    I think it’s:
    Brennan
    Bess
    Rivers
    Grice-Mullins
    —-
Satele, Purcell, Hawthorne, Keomaka as Sunday free agents.

    My guess for draft:

    Brennan
    Bess
    Grice-Mullins
    Rivers

I agree with the Sunday free agent list, with Satele offered by Miami (among many other teams, he also is a possible late round pick) and Keomaka by Oakland. Patek will be invited to an NFL camp. A couple of others will get NFL camp invites or CFL shots.

  428. Jason:

I say Brennan, Bess, RGM, and then Rivers. I think a few guys will get FA shots, but the chances of sticking around and making a practice squad is small for many of the FA-type guys. It's a really deep draft this year in many positions.

I sing bass, except I have trouble with the higher part of the register. I just tried singing "Do-Re-Mi" (from The Sound of Music), and I had to change it to key of F cause I couldn't hit C4. :-)

SteveM: There's an e-mail address where you can e-mail the author of the Local Grindz quiz. Maybe if you e-mail her, she can give you permission to host the test for the Tsaikos (or point you toward a Web site that already hosts it).

  429. Garret:

    Princess,

I just got to see the Warriors Linemen Face Off video--thank you again for an excellent job! It was nice to hear from the participants how the OL is coming together.

  430. Garret:

With the way that RGM performed at the combine and Pro Day, I think he's helped his draft chances the most of the Warriors. The NFL guys knew about Colt, Bess, and Rivers (especially after the 2006 Hawaii Bowl), but RGM might have been overlooked by the NFL scouts a little...especially because they might have thought that he was going to return for his senior year.

RGM has done such a good job, especially with his 40 times, that I had to put him ahead of Rivers. That is nothing negative about Rivers, but RGM posted great times and the NFL guys rely on that. If there was one more opportunity for RGM to compare himself directly with some of the higher-ranked WRs, I think that he would shoot up even further in the draft.

  431. Kekoa:

D1shima, Koakane, Wreck, Homey, et al ~

SteveM asked if we could combine ice chests in order to save a little space at the club. I told him I could accomodate a large amount of items in my 90 cube chest. So upon arrival, you may park your "mini-keg" inside, Koakane. The rest of the Tsaiko Screamers can stash your stuff in there as well.

I would imagine the pupu platter will be kept quite full with exotic morsels of local grindz, so any items that need to be kept cold may also be kept in the cooler. I shall be happy to be your friendly adult beverage distributer/barkeep and pu-pu-p-doo person of the night :!:

Steve, do "they" supply paper products such as the plates & homey hashi's? What else should we bring to make nice?

Also, can you post information for those who need to be reminded of the time to be there, and directions or parking instructions. I think DPK asked earlier today for someone to send up a parachute flare to mark the spot.

    AL:

Did you manage The Point After?

  444. Garret:

    Al,

I'm just glad that I posted before Jason. I do agree with Jason that it is hard to stick as an undrafted free agent, but I believe that Hercules will either be drafted or be on a roster all year as an undrafted free agent. The key for him is to pick a team that will give him the best opportunity to stick and to have a shot at playing time. Miami is very thin at guard, which is why I mentioned them...but he'll probably get a ton of offers if he isn't drafted.

For the other undrafted Warriors, choosing the right team is the key. Getting on a team that is too deep at a position or has too many young players (recent draft picks) who have guaranteed spots on the practice squad will significantly reduce any player's chances. I know that they will work hard and give it their all, but the numbers game can end a career before it gets started.

That even holds true for the drafted players--if Nate had been drafted by many other teams he would have had a good shot at staying on their roster all season. However, Philly drafted him because they had one RB coming off an injury and wasn't sure if the guy they drafted high would be suited for the power back role. When the vet RB came back strong from his injury and the higher drafted rookie established himself, they had no spot for Nate and it was too late for him to get a real shot at playing time with another team.

Okay, now I'm really going to have to get back to work or my boss will kill me.

  445. ralvic:

    Good Evening

I read ST article today. And what caught my attention are the results of last weeks H.S football combine. A name that I'm not familiar with-Kawahi Sablan (Castle H.S) had some excellent numbers-40 time 4.6 / verticle jump 42'5" giving him the highest point total for the event. So I go and checked to see whom this player is and wanted to check his personals but the web site I went on took for ever so I gave up trying to find more info about who this player is. I checked to see if he was on 2009 rivals list and he wasn't.And last years Advertiser All State team didn't show anything either.
But with these kind of numbers it will be interesting to see if it catches any recruiter's attention.
Compared to what we had in our days, the kids now a days have the testing to compare themselves against their peers. And to use these numbers to better themselves. And to improve upon them for the up incoming football season.Back in the old days, for me,especially the last year of H.S, it was basically showing up for practice without doing any running or lifting over the summer.Todays kids I'm happy to see that they have all these tools and camps to better themselves.

garret no murder on the blog please. this is a family place.

  447. al:

tom.....no not the point after, but, i did frequent that place quite often.....too often.

  448. Kekoa:

    Al ~

I would hope that these kids have got adult supervision to help them sign on with the right team. Isn't the job of their agent to look at current rosters, and figure his chances for "making" the team and then advise him of his best option?

  449. HiFlyer:

Kekoa, SteveM E-mail said that Stretch would provide plates, napkins and utensils, but neva hurt to bring extra.

  450. d1shima [sez:]:

    Hmmm...

    I'm thinkin':

    Tiki
    Beef 'n Grog
    Hawaiian Hut

  451. Kekoa:

ralvic ~ You are so right on the kini po po! Back in the day, if you ran on your own, you were considered a track greek freak.

If you worked with weights, it was more of an unsupervised shot at pumping all you can to show your pals you were stronger then them...one time.

Speed & Quickness was tested in the halls at school if someone you just gave a "wedgy" to gave chase.

So yes, as you just stated, we were not in the best of shape to play to our real potential. But how many times have you said to yourself lately...what if??

  452. Kekoa:

    Tanks Flyer!

  453. LizKauai:

koakane- Always is one of my FAVE songs! Tsai...

J- you might want to consider an Asus ieee pc. 8gig/1gig RAM model. I love mine for road trips! Linux and built in wifi 7", 2 lbs. $500

  454. Kekoa:

HiFlyer ~ What kind of flying machines have you piloted?

  455. gigi-hawaii ©:

Al, one of my first dates with hubby was to Point After. The band was so freakin loud, we left and never went back.

  456. LizKauai:

Here's a song the girls can do for homey - note the poodles ;-)

  457. gigi-hawaii ©:

Bad boy - cute guy, Liz!

  458. d1shima [sez:]:

    OMG Liz,
I think that's homey leading the poodles!

  459. Kekoa:

OMG Liz! ~ The hat box Homey is carrying in the vid prolly has his court jester's hat we gave him inside!

  460. al:

d1.....you are a man of great ability to deduce fact.

    gigi....why am i not surprised?
you guys should have gone to the oyster barrel and listened to pauline wilson and seawind (formerly known as ox)

  461. HiFlyer:

Kekoa, I don't fly em I stay on the other side of the operations.

Liz, I almost thought that was homey in the video. j/k homey I no like you sic your dogs on me.

  462. d1shima [sez:]:

    al,

wasn't that hard...Who you preferred Spence or Cliff?

  463. LizKauai:

Oh Yeah- I sure hope they have Pauline Wilson!!!

Yikes, I gotta go pick up Ukuboi and his friend at the St. Theresa's Carnival... BBS.

  464. al:

    d1.....tough one that.
actually they really did care for the local people.

  465. gigi-hawaii ©:

Al, up til recently, we used to go to shows at the Esprit Club in the Sheraton. The Krush were good.

  466. Kekoa:

HFlyer ~ I hope the Aloha Air debacle didn't have a negative effect on your livelyhood. I cannot imagine what it was like for folks to wake up to that nightmare.

  467. Jason:

Garret: I don't think Herc will be drafted, but you never know. It is one of the weakest drafts for offensive guards in recent memory, and so who knows what will happen in the late rounds. It does take just one team to like you — look at Reagan Mauia and Melila Purcell, I never thought those two would get drafted.

  468. LizKauai:

I am praying that all of our boys will end up with the right teams at the right times.
    Even CJ Hawthorne!
Jordon Dizon will get picked first.

  469. d1shima [sez:]:

    Speaking of....

    any developments in Mauia's "situation"?

  470. HiFlyer:

Just read that UH beat Nevada today 10-4.

Kekoa, no not me but someone very close.

  471. al:

the fabulous krush.....they've been around a long time.

  480. gigi-hawaii ©:

yeah, that's right, I did hear a snippet of his singing. Now I remember. I didn't like his monotone voice.

  481. d1shima [sez:]:

    gigi,

haven't seen a hand come thru my screen looking for $$$ yet.

  482. d1shima [sez:]:

    gigi,

  483. gigi-hawaii ©:

haha you ever hear of one note samba?

    Hardly monotone....

  486. LizKauai:

    I'm back.
The gaggle of guys are harmonizing in the LR. They are all going to the Boys and Girls Club Ocean Sports event in Honolulu tomorrow. Have a 6am flight. Yikes! I have to drive 'em in around 4:30 am.

    I wonder if Sekiya's re-opened yet?

d1 yep- Great group harmony song!

  497. LizKauai:

jes made me some sapporo ichiban.

  498. al:

gg.....legend has it that james was in a terrible car crash year's ago. 35% of his bones were broken and had to be replaced with metal. thus, james is the tin man.

some of it is his skull. if you notice that his head tilts to the left a bit. its because of the weight on that side of his head. surgeons did as good a job as possible but there is some increased pressure on his cranium. thus, at times he slurs.

  499. gigi-hawaii ©:

    good try, Al.

For the best harmony, I like the Beach Boys of long ago.

  530. LizKauai:

  531. d1shima [sez:]:

They sound pretty good on the sand, too!

    even In My Room!

  532. Jason:

They've already said they retired the Bee Gees name. There was talk after Maurice's death that they would continue, just the two of them, but that never materialized.

  535. LizKauai:

am I the only one who is noticing that when I refresh the page - posts appear that were made earlier than mine but weren't there before?

  536. Jason:

I'm still trying to get around the fact that gigi knows someone in the musical world not named Beethoven or Bach.

Or maybe she only knows the artists that start with B. So Beach Boys and Bee Gees would count. ;-)

  537. gigi-hawaii ©:

    Hey D1, what's in your drink??? You're on a roll tonight. (joke-wise)

  538. d1shima [sez:]:

    Hey,
I wonder if Stretch made it back on the last plane?

  539. Jason:

What's this, homey is going to sing Cyndi Lauper songs? I'd expect him to sing She Bop. ;-)

(Never did get the real meaning of that song until I happened to read about it on Wikipedia one day.)

  540. homey ® says:

XLiz - I noticed something but I'm just an autistic savant.

  572. LizKauai:

    Okey Dokey

Nitey nite and sweet sounding dreams of tonight to come!

  573. al:

    kekoa.....still early brah.

    back to football.

i think that the timing was right to make some household adjustments to the offense. sure we were top dogs in that dept. but, i did notice, that teams were starting to implement different coverages and disguised coverages well enough that at time we had carburetor trouble.

got to remember that a lot mileage came off the d2's and lower ranked wac. i believe this new run n shoot will cause enough havoc that we will have some nice success.

the defense has really stepped up. certainly mack has a lot to do with it, but, we have some nice players these days. i always like the local boys on d. no one else plays fearless like they do and they play with pain as well inflict it too.

it will be a great change.

  574. Kekoa:

End of a krazy day today and the begining of a new Kraze on the 'morrow. The Pomaiester is still missing in action (?)

  577. koakane:

oh sorry but forgot to say good night

but LIzK mentioned LaMancha's. you mean the night club on keaumouku st?

my hs buddy played with Ron Miyashiro there for many, many years.

see yall at the K call

Kekoa call you in da am

    night again and play nicely.

  578. Kekoa:

Every day we hear and see the jostling for position. Who wants it bad enuff is going to be exciting to see at the Fest. I expect to see some real fired up individual play primarily, and hopefully they will come together as a team in the summer.

  579. al:

well its lights out for me.

    have a safe weekend.

    ......walk in the footprints.

  580. Kekoa:

The expansion of the use of Pilares coupled with Libre, Jackson, et al - will also crank up an anemic running game that was badly needed last year to take the pressure off of Colt.

Sometimes I felt as if JJ did it to showcase Colt as an unstoppable gunslinger to prove to people that his spread was better then all others. It cost him that head banger, and a brutal beating in the SB.

    One final g'night all!

  581. addahknowjoe:

    IT"S SATURDAY!!!

Well, the beeg day is here.

Hooooooo, lots going on. Coaches' clinic; baseball doubleheader; massively anticipated Karaoke Call....

Should be ample opportunities for reams of video.

Speaking of which, I guess the previously promised video from the mini-Pro Day may not have been so compelling given the limited activity that was requested by Mack.

    "Pencils Up!"
    "5-09-2!"
    "11 inches"
    "187-5!"

I guess that would sum up the audio portion, eh?

  596. beau[nuthin' but a hound dog]:

Checked out the pics of Jr. Pro Day.

Seem like my assessment of the audio portion would be about right.

  604. ralvic:

    Good Morning

Well the wife and I spent the early morning hours talking football. And other noteworthy, important topics. And we talked about the draft.Like always I just listen. She likes Grice-Mullens.I like Satele. We both like Hillary.Hate Lingle.Like the new football coach thinking that in the long run he will be a cut above the rest.Don't like how the KGMB sportscaster always referred to Coach Jones as JJ thinking that was crude. And differ on boycotting the Olympics. She uses the logic that it's best not to rile or instigate any provocation. I'm the complete opposite:I say total boycott thinking that our country is in turmoil in the Middle East, and out of respect to human right issues and the war in Iraq we shouldn't go.She go on to say it's better to keep your enemies(potentially China)close to you logic...blah,blah...when asked about the oil prices she goes on with another long winded answer. And I smile. And elbow her.

By now it's about four in the morning.I hear the chickens outside. And I think it's great to wake some morning talking story. And arguing and debating. And often times I share with her what I gather from the Tsaikos. Anyway everyone have a good day.And good time with the karaoke tonight.

  616. LizKauai:

beau- you take your life in your own hands...

  617. LizKauai:

Brennan will be the perfect fit for the Bucs and Gruden's offense, with the perfect time (one or two years) to groom him. Don't be surprised to hear Brennan's name called when the Bucs pick in the third round...just remember where you heard it first!

  618. beau[nuthin' but a hound dog]:

    K.

Tried licking his face fo' wake him up but he mumbled sumtin' about, "Liz and homey need more time."

Den he rolled over and wen' back 2 sleep.

    Wasssupwidat???

  619. LizKauai:

mmm. sounds like a three dog night ;-)

  620. LizKauai:

    BWAHAHAHAA!!!

  621. LizKauai:

A quarterback to keep an eye on is Hawaii's Colt Brennan. The Patriots are said to really like the all-time leading passer in Division I history and he should be around in the late rounds due to a poor performance at the Senior Bowl. Brennan also has the stigma of playing in a pass-happy, shotgun offense in college but he's known for his intelligence and accuracy. With proper coaching, Brennan could be groomed to be a solid NFL backup, something New England sorely lacks at the moment.

  622. LizKauai:

-- 2. Florida (3.75): Hawaii (4), Miami (5), The Citadel (1), Florida State (5). In past years, this schedule would be next to impossible. However, hard times have arrived at FSU and Miami, and Hawaii will be noticeably limping without quarterback Colt Brennan and departed coach June Jones.

    HAH! Limp this!

  623. d1shima[grumpy]:

    Gunfunnit!

Get back in yo' pen! *^&%$ dog!

    Nice find, Liz.

Actually still thinkin' that Martz will be able to do good things for/with Colt in the Bay area. (can't think of what they calling their stadium today)

  624. LizKauai:

After doing a little research, I found something absolutely amazing. Different mock drafts have every team picking Brennan somewhere in the third to sixth rounds.

it seems 20 of the 32 teams in the NFL has their team selecting Brennan in some round of mock draft, but nobody seems to say that they want to take him. Fans don't want him, scouts say they don't think he will pan out, yet all these teams are being speculated as teams of interest who have them in a draft mock up.

Some of these teams include the Patriots, Eagles, Redskins, Jaguars, Bears, Packers, 49ers, Seahawks, Saints, Panthers, and a host of others. So don't be surprised to hear on Sunday morning that your team just picked Colt Brennan. Unbelievable!

  625. d1shima[sez:]:

I mean Martz does have a history of takin' an accurate QB that no one else wanted to the SB (not the Sugar Bowl)

  626. LizKauai:

That was the same article as 617 but I like the quotes!

  627. LizKauai:

d1- I agree. I saw great interest in Martz's face as he worked with Colt.
So how come no one mentions that Colt's earpiece was not working during the Sr. Bowl and he was not able to hear the plays coming in?

Where did that cute hound dog go?

  628. d1shima[sez:]:

    Liz,

I think I heard the announcers mention that during the game.

    Purgatory.

good morning to all the Tsaikos...

have fun at the clinic, should be interesting. K-call will be epic, no video equipment allowed, haha.

    have a good saturday everyone!

  632. whitey:

ralvic, boycotting the Olympics will not hurt China, it will hurt the one who matters the most, the athletes. The games is not about philosophy or trying to impart your morals, but it is a game where the athletes of the world gather to determine who is the best that day or time. We boycotted the games in Russia and to this day, there are many american athletes who are very bitter about the decision. I know first hand as I was the host for the US swimming team when they were on Maui prior to the games. This trip was to reward them for their hard work.

  633. LizKauai:

    witey - ditto.

  634. LizKauai:

ok- hi ho, time to get packed up for rehearsal and the KKall!

have a wonderful day, ka kou!

  635. al:

    hmmmm.

    whitey,

now that you put it into this perspective i have changed my opinion of the boycott. i never viewed it as such, from the athletes point of view, that is.

i was concerned for the safety of the athletes but, i don't think china would take such a black eye by risking violence to any participants or spectators during the event.

mahalo once again to the real mayor of maui!

  636. d1shima[sez:]:

So is everyone else at the Coaches' Clinic?

  637. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    mayor whitey,
Right on braddah! I support Tibet, but I don't think the Olympics should be affected because of that. To those who attack the torch bearers, I say, why not simply have a peaceful world wide protest unrealated to the torches? They had enough Tibet backers to do so. They need to remember that when they attack the torch bearers, they are attacking the olympics. Keep the two issues seperate.

  638. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    hey shima,

  639. whitey:

  640. d1shima[sez:]:

    DPK,

In my house, I'm ashamed to admit, the dog IS the law.

  641. d1shima[sez:]:

Sounds like a great day you got going there, whitey.

    Take care!

  642. FloridaTed:

    Morning, Tsaikos and Tsai-Meister.

It's very nice to see the blog back up to speed. All doors to here seem to be open now. Could it be that everything is finally fixed. Over 600, just like old times.

Re: Brennan, I would bet even money that Colt will be drafted first day, to everyones surprise. The people who know their business know very well what he's made of. He had a lot of buzz, everytime real scouts where around and you don't get that kind of buzz if you're just a marginal player, like the pundits like to repeat over and over.

And why are the pundits so busy putting down Colt? If he's so bad, why all the fuzz?

  643. FloridaTed:

    Hi, d1shima,

You sure are busy blogging today. Keep it up, I like it.

Everybody, have a ton of fun today. I'm jealous.
