Dan Kelly has a unique workout program. He trains with the soccer goalies, trying to stop short-distance kicks. He worked up a pretty good sweat the other day. The Iceman was an all-star goalie in high school.

* * *

Hey, the Dillon Panthers are sponsored by Under Armour.

* * *

We had lunch with Chris McLachlin a couple of days ago.
He's really improving, and he's looking great. He was a bit tired because of the medication, but physically he's doing very well.
Give special credit to his wife for being so supportive in his recovery.
And to Leahey and Leahey. Laughter is indeed the best medicine.

    Hectic travel

Undrafted receiver Jason Rivers has the most difficult travel schedule of all the rookies taking part in the three-day orientation.

The University of Hawaii product traveled from Honolulu on Wednesday and will return to the islands on Sunday.

"I'm the kind of person where when it's nighttime it nighttime and when it's daytime its daytime, no matter where you are,'' Rivers said. "I'm happy to be here. I'm not worried about it.''

  8. gigi-hawaii ©:

ST, how did you know I am Korean? Who told you?

  9. Stephen Tsai:

I was going to go to sleep three hours ago. But I've been watching Friday Night Lights Season 2. it's addictive.

  10. gigi-hawaii ©:

I'm sorry for being mean to Stephen. Can the room forgive me?

  11. Stephen Tsai:

    Gigi:
I must have read it somewhere the past two years.

  12. al:

    yeah me too.

i know nash has a summer session rule. and mack has stated he wanted his players to go to summer session as well. is the football team required now to attend summer sessions. i think that is a good way to not only have them conditioning to but also to stay on track to graduate which really benefits the number of schlolarships.

  13. Stephen Tsai:

    Watch the power of editing.

  14. al:

you've been telling us for the past two years about yourself and your whole family.

  15. Stephen Tsai:

    Sure, Gigi, I forgive you.

  16. gigi-hawaii ©:

    Bravo!

  17. gigi-hawaii ©:

    Addicting - very common error.

  18. las vegas:

Now I know why my posts seem so weird, undercover editing!

  19. gigi-hawaii ©:

yeah haha and I have published 3 memoirs, too...

  20. al:

that was funny. may i have those powers as well. there are a few posters i would like to edit every now and then.

i could help clear up the traffic.

    mwahahahha.

    ok.....lights out for sure.

  21. gigi-hawaii ©:

you guys know so much about me.

  22. Stephen Tsai:

I had to edit Doc yesterday, or whoever it was, who tried to tell everyone to stay away.
I'll say it again: Nobody speaks for me.

  23. las vegas:

    gigi,
we know your wash day and the fact that you split the load into eight piles, washing the rags last.
I don't think anyone else has EVER bared their soul quite like you, muu muu lady.

  24. gigi-hawaii ©:

My mom asked me, "What pleasure do you get from writing about yourself? To me, that's hard work. I'd rather sew a dress than write a book..."

  25. gigi-hawaii ©:

For me, sewing is harder than writing. Don't you agree, ST?

  26. las vegas:

    we know,

    Hubby=David is an accountant
You have a BIG Sony TV
    Wear muu muus exclusively
    Are going to Japan
Grad Roosevelt/UH and went school in NY
    Are Korean
Fell in love with UH football watching a game vs BSU

the list goes on and on and on

  27. Stephen Tsai:

    Writing about others is easy.

  30. Kekoa:

Woke up all sweaty and worried after dreaming that Gigi declared herself President of not only the United States of America, but Korea too! Then, she had her White House Staff summon SteveM and the Tsaiko Singers to sing at the State Dinner hosting Osama Bin Laden. Yikes!...Now no can go back sleep.

  31. Kekoa:

Reflecting back on last night's bb game. Me, my Pops and Koakane walked up to the main gate of the stadium and I see this hulking figure standing to the side passing out leaflets. Why it's Adam Leonard!

Proceeded to chit chat with him as I recalled meeting him and his mighty proud parents at NOLA. We exchanged pleasantries and I introduced him to our little group. Turns out the leaflets he was handing out were to help prevent peeps from bringing in contraband into the stadium. Some of the items listed were very much like the ones in Koakane's hidden bag of groceries which he concealed under my Pops UH jacket!

  32. Kekoa:

Mahalo very much to the younger twin sister, midori7 for such excellent complimentary seats to the game! Pops commented several times about what a good time he had talking baseball to Koakane and really getting into the technical aspect of the game, as Koakane tracked the entire game by posting a box score of every player.

One thing is clearly missing at the stadium. A good field announcer, along with a good mix of tunes to play to get the crowd worked up at the critical moments of the game. If it weren't for midori7, Koakane and myself, the place might have been mistaken for an outdoor memorial service. The new revised addition of "Blondie!" played very well as a team. The blondes did have more fun last night!

  33. Kekoa:

Wow, this is fun! Got the whole playroom to myself. Esme went sleep. Al crashed after giving Gigi a hard time, and Las Vegas had to go work. Liz lasted long enuff to kick start the new blog, and so that left me home alone!

So meanwhile, back at the ranch...during the middle innings with UH safely ahead, I leave our section to travel into enemy territory to talk with my Grandson's former base-u-barru pahtna, who is now a member of the Sac State squad's pitching rotation.

Brian Smith is clearly thrilled to be here in Hawaii for his very first time. The young lefty will be the starting pitcher for the 2nd game of tomorrow's double header. He told me that he was excited about the number of fans that turned out to watch the game. I told him that there will prolly be even more in the stands to watch the double header. No pressure son, just throw strikes...then stand back and watch the balls fly over the fence! Hehehe...

By the time I returned to my seat, chawan & midori7 had let the Hornets sting us for 3 unearned runs!...I considered taking his Lego License away, but then I thought, no...afterall, he did create such a great portrait of Colt out of a gazillion legos.

  34. Kekoa:

One more early morning reminder for those of you who are so inclined. You are all invited to attend our West Side Chapter of the Tsaiko Ohana, Sunday morning Breakfast & Brunch Lunch Bunch. I know...I know...we keep coming up with catchy names for what is simply a chance to drink coffee and tell lies.

BG & Betty will be there to give us a first hand account of their Korean Safari. By taking tour package XYZ, the way of the warrior was long and arduous.

Check out the date, time and location on SteveM web site for all the details. Like Koakane said, "We staht by grinding breakfast from 10 AM until 11:30...den we begin Lunch from dere until 1:00 PM, finishing up with dessert from 1 until 2 PM.

  35. wafan:

    Where is everyone?

  36. wafan:

    LV . . .

That video of the classroom was abslutely hilarious! I watched it a couple of times because it was so funny. The counting segment was the best, though. 18, 19, 10 10, 10 10 1, 10 10 2, . . . 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10. I would have saved myself the trouble of heading back to my seat and just stayed there on the floor.

I do not know what would have been in more pain my butt from the beating or my stomach from laughing.

Thank you! I needed that after my 6th period yesterday.

  37. wafan:

    Kekoa . . .

Sadly, after visiting several Home Depots (interestingly none of them had extensive grass fields) I still do not have enough for a snorkel so I will be unable to participate in the Coffee Call.

  38. myki1:

Good morning Wafan, I think everybody was up late and just recently signed off. I don't know if you ever read my blurb about meeting a guy from Silverdale one morning the last week of spring practice. He was here for a wedding the night of the ohana festival ( much to his dismay ) He confessed to being a lurker! He was a former Damien Monarch, 1992 vintage. I mentioned that we had Tsai-kos in the area and that he shoiuld try to make contact with some of you. I hope he does. Have a great weekend!

  39. wafan:

On the local news last night they did a story on Jim Zorn and his new coaching position. Saw Colt in the background talking with Jim.

    Colt will rise again!

Yes, I did read your post. Silverdale is close to where I am -- about an hour and a half and one toll bridge away. I do not know that fellow Monarch but I sure hope he is doing well out here in the Pacific Northwe(s)t! Thank you for reminding me -- I wanted to do this soon after your post but forgot to do so.

I hope you and sj enjoy your cruise to Alaska! Are you leaving through Vancouver, BC?

In fact, if that lurker is out there you may contact me at wafan (at) comcast (dot) net. Perhaps you will be able to join us at our next Western Washington Tsai-ko feeding.

  44. myki1:

koakane, glad you enjoyed last nights game. We couldn't make it ...had a family dinner, but planning to be there today after grandsons game.

Wish we could make a stop in Washington, since we have family in Tacoma but unfortunately not in the cards this time.

  58. koakane ™:

    some=son

  59. wafan:

    Bulla . . .

Doing okay. Just been really busy with school. This time of year is bad for me -- WASL (that is our version of the high stakes Every Child Left Behind test), SkillsUSA leadership conferences, legislative conferences and meetings, big push for seniors who are finally realizing they really do need to pass their classes to graduate, and planning for next school year.

This year was particularly bad when both our technology, and maintenance and operations levies failed (we are running the maint/ops levy again). So after the teachers were "threatened" with RIF's we were "asked" for to help get out the yes vote through phone banks, and sign waving.

Just hanging in there! I know I can make it to the end of the school year so it will not be a major problem -- the only question is in what condition I will be in at the end. HA!

Waking up at 2 in the morning every day does not help either. I cannot figure out why I have been doing that for the past 5-6 weeks. Weird.

Is the Bulla family getting pumped up for Ryan's graduation at the end of this month? That will be so exciting! I wish I could be there for that celebration!!!

The close of a chapter and the beginning of a new one for a super young man (even if he is from SLS. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Please do not sic Homey's poodles on me!)

  60. wafan:

    koakane . . .

I forgot about the 6 week Summer Break you folks have. That must mess up teachers trying to earn summer school credit! I used to go to summer school but then figured out I would rather have the summers out away from any classroom. So, I take classes during the school year instead. Sometimes it is interesting to juggle classwork and teaching. But, what fun would life be without challenges?

  61. bighilofan2:

    just curious.

anyone been to UH lower campus, lurkin around, talkin to any of the coaches lately? or is this the annual 3 week break/vacation/sabbatical for real?

  62. koakane ™:

    bhf2,

gooda morning to you also. if going cafe 100 eat one loco moco heavy onion and gravy for me. side toast. mahalo yea :p

  63. bulla:

    wafan,

the time is coming ever so quickly...it's like the words of the great kui lee

'....now this child that i face, how familiar he seems,
he's wearing my eyes, he's living my dreams...'

i am going to be a basket case at the grad party, but what a send off. we are planning to have his former coaches there including Coach Craig Stutzman, Coach Chris Brown and others. Fair warning, this is going to be the 'bling bling' party of the summer, the plans lyn has made blow me away.....

the coaches are waiting for him to get off of the plane up there, once he leaves, my life goes back to my old routine. rball/workout at 430 am, in the office by 730 am...and life goes on.

take care of WA, really loved that neck of the world when we were there 2 summers ago with 24 hawaii high school football players...what a trip to UW, haha.

    have a good saturday !

  64. bulla:

    g'mornin bhf2,

is that vog still hanging on you guyz down there?

  65. wafan:

The other day one of my good kids asks for a pass to get some water. No problem he is told, IF he drinks some water for me, too. He just stood there looking at me as if were crazier than they think I am. Finally, he agrees and is gone for around 4 minutes or so.

When he returns he has a huge cup of water for me. HA! Nice guy. But, he just did not get it.

I had to drink the water, even if I was not thirsty. Woo-weee! Really had to go shi-shi a bit later!

  66. bulla:

    koakane,

let me check with my boss. i'll entice her with the 'new unveiling' of a new maitre de at the eatery. haha

  67. bulla:

    koakane,

i am surprised you can open those beady little eyes of yours before 630 am, haha

  68. koakane ™:

    wafan,

no get me started about dis schedule. planning just to enjoy and relax.

  73. wafan:

  74. d1shima [sez:]:

    Great Morning All!

  75. LizKauai:

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

  76. Kekoa:

Hey Fan Man...Good gracious alive man we could have used your controlled mayhem and fog horn voice at the park last night! I couldn't get these youngsters to help me out with my favorite cheer:

    "CIGARETTE ASHES, CIGARETTE BUTTS!
WE GOT SAC STATE BY THE NUTS....PULL WARRIORS, PUUULLLLLL!"

  77. Kekoa:

Good morning Liz! Da Kauai wetter is kinna stale today, eh? What's up with you and your crew today?

  78. hawyn808:

Goodmorning everyone, I've been following Colts recent progress at the Redskins mini camp and I truly believe he is going to be very successful with coach Zorn's offense. Why! They drafted three excellent young receivers in Thomas,Kelley, and Davis, mix with the veteran group and a solid offensive line,I only see a great future not only for the WASHINGTON REDSKINS but Colt as well.I can see why CB has been "antsy" in the quarterback drills. The run-shoot offence is very similiar to the west coast offence.CB sacrificed a lot not only for UH but the state of Hawaii as well.Goodluck CB and rock the NFL world!

  79. brew808:

:D Good Morning Tsaikos and Warrior Nation!!! :D

Wow - the sun must rise a bit later on the west side of the most western island... hi Liz! (Did I spell that right?)

d1 - what kind of grasss are you smelling?

las vegas - funny video. I think Jason should show that to his MoHS Math Team! :)

You guys are funny.... When I was a kid, I used to watch TV on Sat mornings ... "3 Stooges". Now, I turn on the computer and the Warrior Beat! and read you guys.... funny....

  80. Kekoa:

    BHF2 ~

You mentioned da Bamboo Club across from da bowling alley for Tsaiko party site. My cousin Ululani Lee used to own a health food store nearby. You sir, being a man of sound mind and body must surely have partaken of her healthful products.

After she sold out the business, she went into the bail bonds business with her hubby Wilbert. Surely you must know that suppah smaht Pake.

  81. d1shima [sez:]:

    gigi,

Actually, I think it was the game prior to the BSU game, forgot the name of the school. September 1999 — Wasn’t the USC game 1st, followed by a 2nd game, and then the BSU game?

Sounds like Tony Romo-led Eastern Illinois.

  82. brew808:

How come Colt is listed as 6'-2" and 201# on the Redskin roster? Is he shrinking again...? He's the smallest of the 5 QB's on the roster.

Kekoa - you know, or are related to everyone.... :D
Really glad to read about Pops attending the bb game with you last night!

  83. bulla:

    hey brew,

i represent that last remark about the 3 stooges, but i got dibs on 'curly'. that is a hands down for me, or is that a hands on? haha

  84. d1shima [sez:]:

    brew,

Eh, you bugga! Shhhh! da keeds stay listening!

    heheheh

  85. d1shima [sez:]:

Okay, not going make it to Ala Wai fo' da ILH Championship game so.....
    here's the game.

    All UH-Opponent Team
    Selection criteria? Not sure.
Best showing against Hawaii? Most successful overall college career? Biggest success in the NFL?

I'll start off with some QB candidates:
    Aforementioned Romo
    Carson Palmer - USC
    Ben Roethlisberger - Miami (OH)
    Randall Cunningham - UNLV

  86. LizKauai:

    Hi Kekoa!
So glad to hear da ohana -esp Pops- had a good time at that game yesterday!!!

I like da way da team hairstyle and da play shows unity and determination.
One day dey mite show up to play and one section of da peanut gallery will be sporting blonde do's/wigs/beanies/whateveas. DAT would be da bomb!!! Da opponents no mo chance wid DAT kine o SOLIDARITY, eh???
Dey can callem da BLONDE BOMBSHELLS!

hawyn808- No joke, eh? Watch the Redskins start winning bigtime wid dat offensive lineup and see how "system quarterback" will evolve in meaning.
    Bwahahaha!

I gotta cook some coffee- no moah roasted beans.

Oh- Kekoa- Ukuleleboi went to da house of da "gaggle of guys" last night - I guess our fridge was too bare...
6th Annual Ukulele Festival at da mall today but I dunno if he's going. He should. They draw for some nice wood ukes and he could use one. He has his mango uke made by Cliff from Kekaha but da rest is all Ovation Applause.
He no mo Kamaka or da cool new ones like Jake or Herb Jr. or Daniel get.

I tell 'em keep practicing. one day he going get one sponsah.

    OK.
    I;m serious about da kope...
    bbs.

  87. brew808:

bulla - Nope! After seeing you with your bouquet of watercress - you're Shrek!

    okay... since you're multi-talented, you get both titles/rolls.... :D

  88. Kekoa:

    Howzit Brew!

I need your help braddah man. I need to do some serious recruiting around the
world and up your street. No 'nuff rowdy fans in da stands!

The shortage was obvious last night at Rainbow stadium. Send help! We can talk scholarship later.

    Mahalo!

  89. brew808:

oops.... "roles"... not "rolls" .... although...??? "D

Kekoa - R U saying I'm "rowdy"? Wait - let me check in the mirror.... oops - broke.....

  90. sjmacro:

  91. d1shima [sez:]:

Maybe the only criteria is you had to have seen them play Hawaii in person?

  92. brew808:

Yeah - per Liz's suggestion: Would be funny to see you guys bleach blond.... the twin Tsaikettes too!

  97. brew808:

  98. d1shima [sez:]:

    Aloha kakahiaka!

Bulla ~ brew808 is right! I thought your watercress look was familiar ~ Mr. Shrek. You give us memories...

LasVegas: Are you home next weekend? I'm headed to LV Thursday night to meet up with my Mom & Aunties for the weekend.

W-Doc! Good to see you posting here again.

    Good Morning

Are they already on strike?Or have them been doing less work purposely? There is so many voids in the HA compared to the other paper, that "not" half jokingly ,I'm wondering what's going on?Seems like I'm seeing less writing from the HA staffers that I'm beginning to wonder if it's a concerted effort to protests against the paper?

From the other paper- "Governor is fighting with the Senate, saying by mandates,Lagaureta the regent that was not reconfirmed by the Senate, has the options of two more years. Scanning the HA there is no mention anywhere about this.I think this is noteworthy news. For the HA breaking news,or noteworthy news, is a small accident on Vineyard.

From the other papers sports-Mapu,the Kahuku standout, has a three day tryout with the Redskins. Again, looking through the HA-nothing.

Another thing I've noticed is that, and I have learned, is that they are really not current on their breaking news stories.Or accurate.Their entry at 252pm yesterday tells of an incident on the Big Island involving a motorists trying to elude police. Shots were fired, etc. A 252pm the story written by the HA tells that of the two suspects, one was caught. And the other was on the loose. That same day(if the HA staff had noticed on the hawaiicountypolice.com site had reported at 1030am that the second suspect had been captured. Why 4.5 hour latter would they report indifferent to the released police statement.

So I just wondered. Maybe the regular staffers are on vacation...and maybe there this and that...and what we have now are interns running the paper-who knows?

  154. ralvic:

    Good morning

    # d1shima

Thank you SO MUCH for the report on the Dark Side. I’m sure Stephen will be so happy with that bit of 411.
btw, maybe you might want to check out the latest happenings in Dallas in case SMU’d things start happening

    # d1shima-

I don't know how to interpret this. For I don't know if you write out of sincerity or sarcasm. As for myself,I'm leaning towards becoming oppressed. Maybe it's better if I just bite my lip.And not spell out my observations. That way,I guess, I wouldn't be ruffling anyone's feathers. The last thing I want to do alienate people, and I guess,by
opting to be honest in my opinions.Or observations-I have.

  155. gigi-hawaii ©:

being in security, bulla would know these things about Damien.

  156. Stephen Tsai:

Between doubleheader games, you guys should take a quick tour of the softball clubhouse. It's amazing. A/C, for starters. They also installed new benches with the H logos. But that place is so amazing. I know the previous interim administration wanted it torn down, but it's now going in the opposite direction. The training room is amazing. And it could prove beneficial for football. Instead of carting an injured football player to the main training room, they could carry him to the softball training room, treat him, and have him back on the football practice field in no time.

  157. d1shima [sez:]:

    bulla,

So 'grindah' never made the climb up Kapalama Hts? I've often heard that the fuud is better up there!

btw, how's the crowd at Ala Wai?

  158. gigi-hawaii ©:

ST, don't you need a UH student/faculty card to enter the softball clubhouse or can just anybody enter?

  159. Stephen Tsai:

Ralvic is pretty dead-on about our Lagareta coverage.
We've replaced the traditional beats with mobile journalists who cover specific geographical areas. We're basically in zone coverage, and nobody's picking up the non-sports higher education beat. I think Ferd has attended more BOR meetings than any city reporter this year.

  160. d1shima [sez:]:

    gigi,
Maybe if you tell them you're an injured member of the Tsaiko fuutball team, they'd let you in.

  161. sjmacro:

Liz: you sure was dog and not pig, like on bhf2 ranch? :) sjmacro & myki

  162. Stephen Tsai:

    Gigi:
Come see me between games, and I'll take you down there. It's run by the softball parents. They're wonderful people.
Softball is unique in that it's almost a parent-run program. They built the clubhouse, they raise the money, they make the food. Softball is one of the few UH programs without an end-of-the-season banquet. Their "banquet" is a bigger-than-usual postgame spread after the regular-season finale ... provided by the players' parents.

  163. gigi-hawaii ©:

"run by parents..." I think that is simply wonderful! Does this mean most of the players are from Hawaii, then?

  164. Stephen Tsai:

The most unique thing about softball is the stadium does not have rest rooms. You have to go outside the stadium, maybe a 20-foot walk, to the public rest rooms. It's kind of funny to see players waiting in the same line as fans.

  165. Stephen Tsai:

Probably two-thirds of the players are from Hawai‘i. But it doesn't matter. The Mainland players are embraced. The bonding on the team is pretty special.
And, best of all, admission is free. Well, at least through this weekend.
They're charging for next week's WAC Tournament. By the way, as of yesterday afternoon, there have been only two media requests — mine and Jason Kaneshiro's. Press row might be a sofa.

  166. d1shima [sez:]:

    ralvic,
IDK, to me it's just that when you standing on one sideline and start telling everybody else how nice the other guys' headsets are....

A few years ago, the defense decided to put a hit on a particularly mouthy scout-team player. He’d get the ball, boom. Get the ball again. Boom-Boom.

  167. gigi-hawaii ©:

Good luck to the Wahine softball team! Shoot for WAC champs.

  168. LizKauai:

ralvic- we all have quirkyness and that's what makes this ohana so cool. There is only one Tsai-meister here and unless he gives us the word or we find ourselves zapped into a corner for a timeout, we pretty much speak our hearts or joke around as the spirit moves us.
Only a couple of nono's that I have seen - no refs to da odda Honolulu daily papah and no unbridled attacks on individuals.

  169. LizKauai:

sjmacro- was one dog. If was one pig- da son's g/f's crab shells woulda been et and da neighbor's smoker would be going by now!!!!

Now I going make some salt watah and clean out da fish tank.
    L8ters and
    GO WAHINE!!!

  171. Stephen Tsai:

I used to allow cross references. But then I noticed it wasn't reciprocal and decided to scrap the practice.

  172. Stephen Tsai:

By the way, just because somebody is not shooting videos doesn't mean somebody can't stop and visit us. I think you guys need to extend some invitations. And, yes, I'm looking at you, Chawan Cut.

  176. gigi-hawaii ©:

  178. d1shima [sez:]:

  180. d1shima [sez:]:

  181. d1shima [sez:]:

#2 son and I found out at the Chris Sailer Event in Jan that punters are really way more coveted than kickers. Actually long snappers are second to punters. I had thought that LS'ers were #1 b4 we got there.

With so may HS boy soccer players looking for scholies there is a wealth of prospects for schools looking for a placekicker.

Punting on the other hand is very specialized. If a kid can do both well, cha-ching!

  199. Kekoa:

ST ~ That's a good description of Temecula!

Bulla - When my mom was all present and accounted for, she had us put in a putting green and a chipping area at their other house. Her blog handle would have "divot." She was death on anyone who didn't replace their divot or marks on the green.

Gigi ~ Come to Barber's Point Golf Driving range and I'll get you all the golf balls you can hit. I can teach you all my bad golf habits, and Pops can correct 'em. He always had a keen eye for proper technique.

My Mom had absolutely no patience! She would groan and complain after every hole she golfed with us. It was part of her Tsaiko method of intimidation. Problem is, she would usually tie us scratch and beat us with her handicap!

I think he was, at one time, involved in or trying to be with the SEAL's. Interesting kid.

Not bad for a kid who just broke the 5-foot mark as a junior in high school. I think he is just under 6-feet tall now.

Kona be coming in a little late. Pops meds have not quite balanced out yet this morning. Once we get the green light, we'll be heading in. If still not looking good, I'll bring his ticket in and give it to some deserving student at the softball game or something.

  225. Kekoa:

Perfect Place to get started Gigi & Hubby. Mom had a pair of rubbah slippahs she used when it was raining. She had the spikes outfitted on the bottom. Sandals or any type of slippah wont work with out spikes on the bottom. Tennis Shoes will work for a start.

Your Granny Muu would work best because it is shorter in length, and won't hinder that hip and lower leg pivot and flexation action you need. Don't forget your hat! Something like what the Chancellor wears would be perfect!

Hey, gang, just checking in before I hit the road for the rest of the day.

Now... I know Sunday is the West Side Chapter of the Tsaiko Ohana's Sunday morning Breakfast & Brunch Lunch Bunch. Sure wish I could make that!

BUT ... juuust in case you aren't going to that, and you happen to be in the vicinity of Ala Moana Center at noon on Sunday ... well, I hope ST won't mind if I take just a sec here to invite everyone to something else happening tomorrow (excerpted from today's Island Life section):

Party in pink at Ala Moana with HawaiiMoms.com

Mark tomorrow on your calendar — in pink — and dig out your favorite pink outfit.
The signature color of HawaiiMoms.com will be recommended attire as The Honolulu Advertiser Web site hosts a party at noon at Ala Moana Centerstage, with support from McDonald’s of Hawai‘i, and everyone is invited.
The winner of HawaiiMoms.com’s first Mom of the Year contest will be announced at the event, and she’ll walk away with a prize package worth $900. In addition, HawaiiMoms.com will be celebrating its first anniversary.
Singer Kristian Lei will entertain, and McDonald’s will provide costumed characters, balloons for the keiki, and free meal coupons. KHNL anchorwoman Diane Ako will emcee. See HawaiiMoms.com for more details.

For the moms, pink will be de rigeur.
For the male Tsaikos ... if you show up in pink, I'm going to worry a little bit.

Should you happen to swing by, be sure to say "hi" at the HawaiiMoms table!

Have a great day, gang. Back here tonight, I hope. Hi ho, hi ho ...

we got to talk story so no conflicting dates. if we knew could have ajusted accordinly like da athletic dept does. no mind wearing pink once and a while.

The volleyball tournament had been in place well before the WAC came out with its 2008 football schedule in March. UH coach Dave Shoji had been urging a change so the two events did not present a conflict for fans

  239. Stretch:

ST - How come Emse HawaiiMoms.com group gets a "Mom of the Year award"?? We should have a Tsaiko of the year!! I nominate Bulla, his picture with the Watercress behind his ear says it all. Ooops, sorry, Tsaiko not Psycho.... Okay, scratch Bulla.

  240. Kekoa:

    Liz ~

Ku Kui Olono would be the perfect short course for her to play. The trick is, can she handle the golf cart? There are several holes that once the down hill momentum kicks in, auwe...next stop Niihau!

  241. gigi-hawaii ©:

  242. Esme:

No worries, gang. Can come, can. No can, no can. koakane, shoohts, next time. Liz, thanks for the well-wishes!

Stretch, the only reason there's this event and the award is that McDonald's wanted to sponsor. Now if Genji wanted to step up ...

Kekoa, thanks to you, I now have this visual of a line of Tsaiko-sized men all dressed in cotton-candy hues. Whoa. Betta than coffee.

    Good day, all!

  243. Kekoa:

  247. koakane ™:

    posted on Cat's blog

It’s a list of nine words women often use — and what they really mean. (And remember: this is addressed to men.)

    Here they are:

    1. Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
    2. Five Minutes: If she’s getting dressed, this means half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
    3. Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
    4. Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission.
    5. Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to No. 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
    6. That’s OK: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s OK means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
    7. Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question it. Just say, “You’re welcome.” Unless she says, “Thanks a lot.” That is PURE sarcasm and she’s not thanking you at all. Whatever you do, don’t say, “You’re welcome.” That will bring on a “Whatever.” (See below.)
    8. Whatever: It’s a women’s way of saying, “$?&# you.”
    9. Don’t Worry About It, I Got It: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking, “What’s wrong?” For the woman’s response refer to No. 3

whoa now I understand women talk moa betta :?

I read Cat's blog this morning and thought, "So, that is why I cannot get married -- I do not understand their language!" Darn it! French, Latin and English all for nothing! I needed to learn and be fluent in Female.

    I need lessons.

  251. koakane ™:

    wafan,

eh not only you about 99% of us men in da same boat.

  254. d1shima [sez:]:

    thanks Hawaiianbod,

    Already saw the breaking news.

    Well, next up - States!
Gotta go thru da long road now

  255. LizKauai:

gigi- no deadline. Dis is FUN golf. Team of 4 players shooting best ball. That means everyone hits off the tee. Then, we pick whose shot was the best (scoop up all da losers) and all start from there on the next shot. That goes on until a ball drops into the cup and that score is recorded for the team. Two people in a cart- so someone else can drive to save Kekoa's blood pressure ;-)
The fees are minimum- like $20 including the cart.
The best part is the fuud (potluck) and fellowship and laughs after the game. And there is an installation somewhere in that mix
It would be awesome if a bunch of Tsaikos showed up!

Other clubs are doing a more formal dinner event (6 clubs on Kauai) but we do em wessai style.

Watching the BB game- looking for Tsai-kos in the stands.

  256. Addahknowsports:

    Koakane-

You know that "five minute" thing (#2 on Cat's blog) can go both ways. A-joe used to tell me when watching football only get five more minutes. Of course it took me a season to figure out just how long football minutes are compared to real time. Now, I understand the "football minutes" and (depending on how the game is going) can appreciate the concept.

    It's all relative anyway.

    Have a great day! :)

  257. LizKauai:

Koakane- truer phrases (Cat's blog) were never spoken ... bwahahaha!

  258. LizKauai:

eh- Sports, you guys should come visit your mom folks around June 29... whaddya think?

  259. gigi-hawaii ©:

Liz, what is the time frame? afternoon? morning?

  260. Addahknowsports:

    LizK-

Would love to join you guys, but already scheduled to go mid-July for a week.

    Gigi-

You can start the ladies golf auxiliary, muumuu chapter. j/k I think you would have fun, though.

  261. LizKauai:

gigi- golf is usually around 8:30AM tee time and lunch and relaxing in the pavilion is around 12 -1 pm. The park closes at 6 so we are usually pau by 4 - including adult-beverage relaxation time. People can leave earlier if they like.

  262. gigi-hawaii ©:

Sports, I am so relieved that Kekoa said muumuu is okay. I thought most golf courses had a dress code.

  263. gigi-hawaii ©:

8:30 -- kind of too early for me. What time is your installation? After lunch?

  264. Addahknowsports:

    Gigi-

If you go with a shorty muu, be careful 'cause on certain courses it can get kind windy on certain holes. You may need to find something like a bicycle clip. Again, j/k. About the bicycle clip, I mean.

  265. gigi-hawaii ©:

nah, Sports, I've got it in the bag. Trouble is, my long muu might billow out, preventing me from seeing the ball before hitting it. What a sight! On 2nd thought, maybe I will bring clothes pins. I have a bag full of em.

  266. LizKauai:

    The installation is after lunch.

I suggest coulottes... saves dealing with pesky clothespins ;-)

  267. LizKauai:

Older son ad g/f came home. no mo baseball... Family Guy dvr now...

  268. TChahng [대장입니다]:

    RE: #179

    gigi,

UH Punter/Kicker Jim Asmus did both for Dick Tomey teams in the 80s.

  269. Addahknowsports:

    Good idea, LizK (re: coullotes).

Gigi- I was going to say "be cool". You don't want it to look like you're doing laundry on the course. Coullotes are comfortable.

  270. gigi-hawaii ©:

Liz, we might join you for lunch and the installation -- hubby and I. I'll let you know for sure next month after my trip to Japan.

What kind of food would you like me to bring? Hopefully something transportable on the plane.

  271. gigi-hawaii ©:

TChahng, was Asmus successful doing both jobs?

  272. gigi-hawaii ©:

I guess you're right about the clothes pins. Let me test the muumuu at Barbers Point next Sunday. Da main ting is to see da darn ball before hitting it. BTW, hubby and I will take turns at the driving range. We are both excited about golfing.

  273. TChahng [대장입니다]:

Jim Asmus was good at both jobs. I thought he was the best dual threat specialist UH has ever had. As good as Jason Elam in kicking and Mat McBriar in punting.

  274. LizKauai:

gigi- That would be so cool if you guys came! I think Mr. gigi would enjoy himself too. Club members are mostly guys who work at the Missile Range Facility or private contractors- and other wessai companies. Unfortunately,my football buddy from last year will probably be transferred to the mainland by then.

  275. gigi-hawaii ©:

TChahng, I googled Jim Asmus. He was a free agent in 1980 with the Buffalo Bills. The story does not say if he stayed with them.

  276. gigi-hawaii ©:

Liz, I'm going to bring hubby cause he is more familiar with Kauai than I am, having been to many meetings and conferences there. You should let everyone on the blog know the address for the pavilion.

  277. LizKauai:

ST- great to hear that Chris McLachlin is getting better!

gigi- the pavilion is located at Kukuiolono Park in Kalaheo.

Click on my name for a map.

  278. LizKauai:

Whoops- use this map to the park. The pavilion is at the end of the looped cart path. Zoom out to see the larger map location.

All Tsai-kos are welcome! Just let me know if you want to play golf so we can get a handle on that.
June 29 - Sunday, 8:30am Kukuiolono Park. Best ball, fun game, 9 holes.
    FFFF and golF.

  279. al:

golfing in a muumuu......that's just wrong.
in fact, there may be a rule regarding that.

  280. SteveM:

"Hello" to the lurker who was at Jamie & Kevin's wedding today...

It's happened to Peaches now-- she said the lurker sat besides her at our emptying reception table as things were winding down, tapped her on the shoulder and said "You're Peaches aren't you? ...and that's SteveM?" Insistent pounding on my shoulder made me turn away from a conversation with my cousin..

Turns out he's a long time Warrior Beat lurker since the early days when "there were very few posts and Da PunchBowl Kid was almost the only one...".

Naturally, lurker doesn't want to tell his name--but mentions that he played football on the same high school team as Koakane in Kalihi. When asked for more, he said "just tell him the Japanese guy who played the same position but was one year younger". Got that, Koakane?

But Peaches meets her first lurker today...

  281. gigi-hawaii ©:

Al, only way to find out is to wear the muu at the driving range next Sunday.

  282. gigi-hawaii ©:

  291. bighilofan2:

    big smile BIG SMIIIILE

  292. LizKauai:

gigi- I think you might prefer the Sheraton in Poipu - or the Hyatt, but that is a bit pricey. Waimea Plantation Cottages in Waimea is my fave...but I can see you saying -
"I'm paying this much money to stay in an old plantation house???"

    Bwahahaaha!

There are lots of nice B&B's and condos in the Poipu - Kalaheo area too... But somehow I see you at the Sheraton - sipping a cool beverage and enjoying a good book by the pool.

Peaches- wow - you're first lurker! WooHoo!

Dangit- I knew I shoulda insisted on watching the BB game... I was looking for Tsai-kos until my son came home.

Gotta run... see you guys laters!

  293. bighilofan2:

me bad. so very solly :( won't do dat again, names.

but at da time i wuz trying for be funny.

  294. LizKauai:

gigi- proper golf attire is always good form. But Kukuiolono is very casual - we do not "put on the dog" (in the Tennessee Williams context) there and I know plenty of guys who golf in slippers.
I would not do that though...

  295. d1shima [sez:]:

    gigi,

    sitting.

  296. Kekoa:

Thanks to midori7 pops and I are no longer lost in space. We were late in arriving. UH is in jail, coach T just got thrown, wheels came off, down by 5.

I was hoping my boi BS would not get burned to bad, but UH guys are making him look good!...Aarrrhgg!

  297. gigi-hawaii ©:

Liz, we stayed at the Sheraton in Poipu last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Let me discuss it with hubby and see what he says.

  298. gigi-hawaii ©:

    Kekoa, check your email, pls.

  299. Garret:

    Posting from Whittier.

    Photo of Jason Rivers!

Titans' rookie receiver Jason Rivers (13) has a hard time holding on to the ball as he is defended by Cary Williams (41) during the rookies first open practice at Baptist Sports Park.

  300. d1shima [sez:]:

    Kekoa,

Glad to hear that Pops is OK

  301. Jason:

Hmm, I just noticed something. So during the beta testing meetings for this site, the Advertiser folks said they put in the "Powered by you and the Honolulu Advertiser" graphic because they really believed that the site is driven by its users. Now I see that the standard Gannett site has that same graphic. Yeah, I feel really, really special.

  302. Garret:

    Feature article on Bess!

Just 22, former Hawaii receiver Davone Bess has been through a lot growing up in East Oakland, Calif., but the 5-foot-9, 190-pounder with shoulder-length dreadlocks has come a long way on and off the field.

"I could've easily got caught up in the streets instead of staying focused and doing sports to get out of it," said Bess, seemingly the most sure-handed of five signed college free-agent receivers participating in this weekend's rookie minicamp. "But my mom [Chinell Carpenter], who had me at 15, kept me and my little brother busy with sports.

"I watched my uncle [Clark Robinson] get killed right in front of me at a block party for his birthday. Some guy jumped the fence and shot him on my auntie's porch.

"I knew life isn't promised to anybody and that it and football can be taken away at any time."

"The judge said she wanted to make me an example," said Bess, who wouldn't incriminate his friends. "I learned not to associate with certain individuals. I was getting ready to play college football and they took it away faster than a blink of an eye."

So Bess formed a 7-on-7 football team at Orin Allen Rehabilitation Facility in nearby Byron. Keith Bhonapha, a former graduate assistant coach at Hawaii, filmed Bess at the request of John Beam, their mutual high school coach.

Bhonapha sent the tape to then-Hawaii coach June Jones, well known for giving young men second chances.

  303. Garret:

"It's unbelievable that he didn't get drafted anywhere from the second to fourth round," said Jones, now coach of Southern Methodist. "Sometimes these kids' pasts scare the pros and scouts.

"But he's a great kid with an unbelievable work ethic. Our practices would start at 7 a.m., and I'd get there at 6, and Davone would be catching balls on the jugs machine in the dark."

Bess' slow 40 time (4.64) at the NFL Scouting Combine also scared teams, but his agent, Kenny Zuckerman, said Bess' 1.53 seconds time in the 10-yard sprint compared favorably to Donnie Avery, the first receiver taken in the draft.

"After having Wes Welker, I think the Dolphins know what he's worth and Davone could be the same kind of find," Zuckerman said.

Bess' former receivers coach, Hawaii offensive coordinator Ron Lee, is fed up with the lack of respect shown to Warriors receivers, three of whom averaged more than 100 catches and 1,000 yards but didn't get drafted.

"I don't understand it," said Lee, whose four receivers from last season are all in NFL camps. "We throw the ball, pitch the ball and we run fast routes.

"Why wouldn't you want a receiver who studies defenses, knows coverages and how to get open off the line?

"Davone is so quick, no one will be able to jam him at the line. He has a tremendous feel about the seam and not getting there until the ball is in the air. You can't teach that."

  304. Garret:

Jones said that of the seven best NFL receivers he has coached, none has anything on Bess, including five-time Pro Bowler Andre Rison. He also compared Bess' punt-return skills to that of three-time Pro Bowl returner Eric Metcalf.

"[Dolphins vice president Bill Parcells] is going to like him. When the game gets big, Davone gets bigger," Jones said. "I'd be shocked if he doesn't make plays for the Dolphins this year."

  305. Garret:

    Comments by Miami's head coach.

(On if any of the receivers at this mini-camp fit the team’s needs) – “It depends on the fit. We have several big receivers on our team right now that aren’t out here. Ernest Wilford is a big guy. (Derek) Hagan is a big guy. So when you look at these guys – Tab Perry is a big player – I think for us it was just a combination of finding enough big receivers out there and certainly some guys maybe that can create a little bit – a smaller guy that can create a little bit in the slot and maybe do some things that way as well.”

(On Hawaii receiver Davone Bess) – “I see a player that has pretty good ball skills right now. He certainly needs to do some things from a conditioning standpoint. He knows his stamina. To play receiver in our league you are running an awful lot and there is not a lot of numbers. The one thing with him is he has been in an offense where they are running a bunch of routes every game. They are not handing it off. He is running a bunch of routes every game and I think that is a positive. I do see good ball skills from him.”

  306. Garret:

Sorry to be such a hit-and-run blogger, but I've got to get back to my friends...I only found the stuff for Bess during this period of time.

  307. Jason:

That was a great article, Garret, thanks for finding it!

I better get ready to go too, got that birthday dinner at Shokudō. I'll be sure to post a review.

  308. Stephen Tsai:

Just back from softball; UH swept.
    But no sign of Gigi.

  309. gigi-hawaii ©:

ST, I held down the fort while you were out. Besides, I am nursing a cold.

Hey, if we have the blog touch football game in Lower Campus, could you show us the softball cabin, then?

  310. Kekoa:

Time is running out on the guys. Send in the clowns!

  311. Da Menehune:

ST Did sof ball team sweep or got swept?

  312. Da Menehune:

Never mind. Read breaking news.Go Wahines!

  313. Kekoa:

Gigi - Still at bb game. UH has one last bat. 7 to 1 Sac. They pulled BS out in the 8th. He done good.

  314. Stephen Tsai:

    Gigi:
Nope. you can only see it when it's open, and it won't be open in July.
This was your last best chance. Tomorrow is senior day, and next week is the WAC tournament. There's an entry fee for the tournament. The regular-season games are free.

  315. gigi-hawaii ©:

ST, it sounds like you had a good time today. Congrats to the Wahine!

  316. NYUH:

"[Dolphins vice president Bill Parcells] is going to like him. When the game gets big, Davone gets bigger," Jones said. "I'd be shocked if he doesn't make plays for the Dolphins this year."

  317. Koauka:

ST, you've been blessed and your boss has you covering the WAC Softball Tournament?

The Wahine theme for next week should be REDEMPTION!

  318. midori7:

On April 24, 2008 I reminded Jim Donovan at the hospitality room "no shame ask" and he said that they have several suggestions on how he can best use the manpower offer for the lower campus that will conclude with a cookout.

Any UH fan can participate in this effort.

Got my gloves, shovel, pick, axe, paint brush, hammer, etc ready for a good day's work. Hope Mrs A-House and Midori7 can make it.

  319. A-House:

Now, I'm in trouble again for not changing the posters name.

    d1- you blogging from Genji's?

  324. BG:

Finally starting to feel like I've gotten rid of some of the Vog-on-the-brain. Wanted to post something about my long awaited get together with TChahng. BTW...All Hail the newly appointed Prez of the Yongsan chapter of the the Tsaikos! And soon to annex the island of Okinawa.

TC is a 100% cool guy. From the way he looks, the way he talks, and his Warrior heart. He's just so impressive and so competent. And the clincher...he's from Waipahu! Another generation for sure...still...WHS forever

Thanks TC, for the brief, but very complete summary of our conversation...even with the part about your ex gf. lol With your permission, we should have you attend a karaoke Tsaiko party and invite all the incredible (single) Tsai-kettes for you to meet. Bwahahaha

What a great experience to meet a fellow Tsaiko so far away from Hawaii. Add in a good beer and friendly conversation...incomparable! We know we'll meet up again...Korea, Okinawa, Hawaii...or maybe a bowl game...you're part of the ohana after all!

    Liz,

After discussing it with hubby, we will be staying on Kauai June 28-29. We will definitely play golf, reserving 1 cart. Do I pay the $20 now or when we get there?

  326. gigi-hawaii ©:

BTW, June 28 is my wedding anniversary. What a great way to celebrate it.

Liz, how hard is it drive the cart? Hubby will be the one driving it. Does it have good brakes, or what, especially at your golf course?

  335. d1shima(tilted):

    gigi,
You must really like doing laundry ;-)

Not sure if we going make it to Genji tonite.
Get karaoke here but Danelo get da mic now....I think it's over.
He seems to enjoy the sound of his yelling into the sound system.
Hmmm...I guess a lot of us can relate!

  336. gigi-hawaii ©:

Doing laundry is not that bad. It's ironing I hate, so I always try to buy clothes that don't require it.

  337. gigi-hawaii ©:

I am wracking my brain as to what kind of food to bring from Oahu to Kauai. Hubby suggested Zippy's chile, but that would be messy. I can imagine it all over my clothes in the suitcase. Besides, how would it be heated up for the party? No microwave in the park.

  338. Kekoa:

Gigi ~ Answered your email. Happy to do it. Glad you decided to go to Kauai to play golf and enjoy your wedding anny! You will love the views and vistas from up there.

  339. Kekoa:

Gigi ~ Take over something from Dee Lite Bakery. They can freeze the Passion Fruit Cake and by the time it thaws, you should be ready to eat it. They pack it real good for air trans carry on. Or, something from Liliha Bakery is always welcomed by the peeps of Kauai...at least the ones from my old neighborhood.

i just wanted to say thanks again to the tsaikos who contributed their baseball tickets for us to go to the games this weekend. nice to meet koakane and kekoa's dad.

its amazing how a simple blog about UH sports has become a gathering place. each poster is a part of the family. i bet Stephen never thought this would turn into such a huge part of everyone's lives. our connection & love for whatever UH sport you support has brought us all together.

each person contributes their own to the discussion. stephen with his inside scoops, THE Princess, Leila, Wai-wai, etc with her always awesome videos, garret with his google powers, stretch with his humor, and on and on.

not sure what's happening with the video thing, and why one part of our family is missing, but hopefully all turns out for the better.

Leila, if you're still out there, lurking, you're always welcome to post and join us. we miss your videos but we also miss your presence here. thank you for all that you do. if there's anything you need, please let us know. you've provided so much for us, we'd like to return the favor, if you need it.

Go Bows, Go Wahine, Go Warriors!

Buy 'em anyway and you can tell the peeps on Kaua'i how good it WAS!

    heheheh

Actually they will give you the scoops on how to freeze then thaw it. Took some to my relatives in Vegas and it was fine.

  348. Stretch:

What a crappy second baseball game. I swear I saw those same umpires as WAC football referees. THEY WERE TERRIBLE!!!!

When Trap was walking out to argue the foul ball hit down the third baseline, I told my mom that he was going to get thrown out of the game. The team was flat and needed a fire lit under the okole. Sure enough, the talking escalated, the hat turned backwards, the he got the heave-ho. It didn't work, the team still was flat.

When Konishi was arguing the interference call, I thought that he should have pushed the limit and get tossed also. That was the WORST call ever by the home plate umpire. He was catching hell after that one.

I think that Konishi needs to work on his arguing skills. He needs to get in the umpires face, hands behind his back, head twisting all over the place while yelling, and lastly, no forget the spit flying out. It's an art but once he gets it down, he can be a head coach.

  349. gigi-hawaii ©:

I'll just bring dessert. Thanks for the suggestions.
I'll reserve a room at the Sheraton-Poipu and 2 seats on HAL.
Hope to get early check in like last year. That was fun!
If I check in the golf bag and clubs, what prevents the clubs from falling out? Will ask HAL if there are any restrictions regarding golf clubs.

  350. Stretch:

gigi - if you are going to take your golf clubs, you need to get a travel bag for them.

  351. d1shima [sez:]:

    Stretch,
Sounds like you got it down pretty good; when you going file your application? haha

Those calls really looked bogus on TV; esp. the 2nd one.

  355. Stretch:

  356. Stretch:

gigi - most golf stores have travel bags.

  357. HiFlyer:

Mililani Trojans will OIA softball championship, 4-3, over Campbell...On to the States

  362. Kekoa:

Gigi ~ I will show you what you need to ship your clubs. One other thing I would suggest would be to rent a set there and be done with the headache of carrying them. Once you get used to playing with your own clubs...then worry about transpo.

Relax, my instruction will start with the basic equipment checks and golf accessories. Don't sweat the small stuff. Golf is already "mental" enough.

  363. al:

gigi you are a foot shorter than david, no?

so either one will apply or they could be too long for you and too short for him.
or too long for you and just right for him.
or too long for him and you.
    or too.....you get the picture.

  364. al:

    kekoa is a brave man.

  365. gigi-hawaii ©:

Kekoa, I didn't realize we could rent the clubs.

Liz, is this true for your golf course?

If so, then we shall rent!

OK, we will wait til after our 1st lesson to buy missing clubs.

  366. LizKauai:

Wow gigi and hubby... what a great way to celebrate your Anny. and Tsupport a Tsaiko!

You might want to keep an eye out for a set of clubs so that you don't have to share. Sometimes people get tired of golf before their clubs get too much of a workout and you can buy a set pretty cheap.
They should be matched to your height. Longs shafts can always be cut down and there are lots of people around who can do that for you.

You can pay when you arrive. I'll put your names in.
BTW, that's another reason to have 2 sets of clubs- you might be on different teams!

Garret- thanks for the Bess scoop!
    How's Disneyland???

  367. Kekoa:

Google and call the course for their rental fees.

  368. LizKauai:

Wow- are we all on the same wavelength or what?
I think they have clubs for rent - Will check to make sure.

  369. al:

    go figger.

That Kekoa is turning out to be good friend. Brave man indeed.

will your game be ready for a full sized golf course?
are you aware of all the golf etiquette?

definitely need a set of clubs for the tall husband and the short wife, each.

  372. al:

gee.... i grew two inches from last year. too bad it was horizontally.

  373. LizKauai:

Tonight I went to a concert put on by the Garden Island Singers - the group I sang with during the fall and winter last year. It was at the college and a very nice program with some challenging music as well as some fun show tune and international stuff.
Remind me to ask d1-shima to do some West Side Story stuff with me at the next K-Kall! I miss that stuff!

Anyway, I was a little miffed at the start. The theatre holds- say 500 or so people. There were about 60 people in the audience and we spaced ourselves out all around the place so we all could have a good view.
So I am sitting there and my ex's boss and his wife and another lady come in and sit in the row in front of me. The women sit one seat over so as not to sit directly in front of me. So then the boss crosses over and sits directly in front of me! They could have sat 1 or 2 rows up or down to avoid blocking my view.
So I say - ok, I'll move. So I moved tree seats over so I could see. THEN they start whispering and chatting and the wife starts coughing loudly (she was obviously not well) while the concert is going on!
I had to move over 3 more seats (now 6 seats off center) away to avoid being distracted by the constant whispering...
    grrr...

  374. al:

i thing the tizer should have a golfer's blog now that gigi will attempt the game. i can see it occupying too much of the warrior football blog.

  386. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc:

Interesting O`ahu Democratic Party convention this morning. Most of the day went favorably for our Good Causes.

While DrDoc went to the first baseball game - we got to the lower campus at the beginning of the second inning - I watched the first softball game and then joined him for the second bb game.

Were we invisible to other bloggers in attendance at Murakami Stadium? I only saw one person I knew - a state legislator who's a regular at most bb, w&mvb & w&mbskb games. Alas, the double-scheduling keeps him from attending most sb games. I gather he's not much into football, but maybe Mark Takai can turn him into a Warrior fan.

Although we were sitting in our sort of regular seats in the upper deck/third base side, my knees sort of "froze up" because of sitting so long that I spent the three middle innings from hell walking around trying to work through some fairly serious pain before going back upstairs to join DD.

I'm on a new exercise routine to try to get some flexibility back in my knees, but the aftermath is some serious but temporary joint & muscle pain. I simply have to work through it if I want to have knees that bend for the rest of my life.

Back to the game - the officiating was terrible. Between the unjustified balk call, the interference call, the bounced ball off the 2nd base ump's leg which cause a sure-fire 6-3 out to to turn into a single, and the fair ball turned into foul ball call, the second game was stolen from the Bows in broad daylight. What a terrible way to end an otherwise great day at the ballparks.

Oh, well, tomorrow is another day.

Time for bed - we need to be up early to do housework and yardwork before going to see the final WAC game of the season live.

If you're in the ballpark tomorrow, then drop on by for a brew or two.

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

I hope the rain stops so I can enjoy a round of golf this morning before heading out to the baseball game this afternoon. I hope we have different umpiring crew but somehow I don't think so.

If you’re in the ballpark tomorrow, then drop on by for a brew or two.

    WassupDoc - you buying??

  395. wafan:

    Hey Stretch!

Good morning to you and everyone else in Tsai-ko Land! Enjoy the game today. I think people should take their old glasses in and throw them on the field when there is a bad call by the umpires. If not glasses then those coupons from one of the glasses and eye-exam places.

It is going to be a beautiful day out here! Whoo-hoo!!! Clear blue skies with temperatures in all the way up to the low 60's. TIme to break out the shorts and slippas.

Kekoa, good to hear your Dad is getting out to games.

Las Vegas, I will email you. I'm sure my Mom & Aunty won't mind getting out of downtown, alto sometimes hard to pry my Aunty away from the machines... It's the anniversary of my Uncle's death in LV, so we'll be celebrating his golfing, gambling, 'ukulele-playing life. My classmate is married to the former principal of SLS & he now works part-time at UNLV. Maybe I'll see if they can meet us if we get together. Got to see them at the UH-UNLV game last year.

We'll have them place an honorary place setting for you at Kole Kole today.

~ Koakane will be showing off his skills as our West Side Chapter's Maitre 'D.

~ BG and Betty will be giving us their blow-by-blow account of their "Road to Yongsan." I know there will be amazing photos to share of their activities.

~ Giving BG & Betty an update of all the Krazy Karaoke/Warrior Bowl activities they missed will be fun to rehash.

~ For those who wish to partake of the 10 cent tour of the scenic namesake of our Buffet, there will be ample time to do so after we "cook da chicken!"

~ Most of all, as always, it will be fun to just share another day with good friends in felowship.

Looking forward to "hangin out" with you when you come home in December!

  401. protector:

    Morning Tsaikos!

I have to agree with WassupDoc about the horrendous officiating int the 2nd game. The frustating thing is that there is no recourse for something like that. Ove the years, there has been some eye-opening officiating in baskeball & football as well. Just in the past couple of years, UH baskeball games have been "stolen" from te team while the WAC sits on its hands. It was about 2 years ago (?) when Boise State was given the game at Aloha Stadium when a gut-less ref refused to pull the flag out as Omega Hogan (I think) was tackled form the back while attempting to grab the punt returner that eventually scored on the play (approx 86 yard punt return for TD) which really should've resulted in a penalty & Boise State (BS, 'll call them) should've been backed up pretty close to their own goal line. I'm not a "homer" type of fan that screams murder if UH really is the transgressor, but over the years the team has been "screwed" more often than not. Interestingly enough, this seldom happens to to USC, BYU, & a number of other high-profile teams; it's pathetic.

I have a cousin that is the President of the Umpires Association in Pearl City. They handle most of the baseball/softball games in both East & West Oahu.

He, like the others, do make mistakes. They will rarely ever admit to those errors in judgement, but, nevertheless, to err is human. To do it consistently is criminal!

I noticed that they all are of the same mind. Some, not all, have developed a level of authority on the subject that we mere mortals will never be smart enough to attain or understand. Such was the case yesterday, and the night before.

    Like D1 I sez..."Leave no doubt."

I noticed earlier in the blog, wen I was catchin up, you asked about Saddle road.
Soon from Hilo to Pohakaloa the road will be aces. The last section around the 19 mile mark will be finished this summer. The rest of the road is still all bust up. Then construction will move to behind the military camp but when that section is done to the 46 mile marker they must wait for $$ and re survey to connect to the Mamaloa Hwy and then to continue down to the Queen K. When it happens it will cut the Kona drive way down as it connects 7 or 8 miles closer.

    ALOHA KAKAHIAKA!

Yikes, I literally crashed last night!

gigi- golf is a game with a rule for everything and rules of etiquette to boot. Originally: Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden.
Picture the room full of gents in the mens' club from Out of Africa.
It would be good to attend a class on golf etiquette. I got my training by listening in when my kids were in Jr. Golf.... imho, one of the best programs in the world for kids.

gigi- some day, you might want to pick up an iPod and buy your music by downloading (or just get Frostwire like some people I know). The music ends up a little cheaper, no minimum to get free shipping, and instant gratification!
You can pick individual songs or buy whole albums. I think you would enjoy the ability to pick and choose the songs you like rather than getting an album with, say, 5 songs you like and 7 songs you didn't. At 99cents a song, that would cost you only $5.

d1- be thinking One Hand, One Heart and Tonight. Wowo- it was everything I could do to stifle singing along from the audience. Oh wait, maybe my ex's boss and his ladies might have moved seats... ah, too little, too late.

WassupDoc, Kekoa, protector et al- thanks for the BB officiating game comments. grrr.

ESME- have a GREAT Ala Moana Moms' Day!!! Good luck to all the special MOMS!

On the Dolphins website, there is a poll asking which free-agent signing will have the most impact on the Dolphins upcoming season. With over 7000 votes so far, 54% of the vote is for Devone Bess. It seems like he had a good rookie mini camp by listening to the HC's press conferences.

Hawaii receiver Davone Bess seemed to slow down Sunday, but he still displayed the best hands of the young receivers. However, former Purdue wideout Selwyn Lymon offered Henne and Copeland a large and inviting target at 6-3, 216 pounds.

Sparano made it clear that the Dolphins are looking for a quick, slot receiver, a position that Bess played in Hawaii, and a spot Georgia Southern diminutive receiver Jayson Foster might latch on to.

  433. djmitcho:

It seems of all the NFL teams, the Dolphins have the most updated one. I went to the others (where the other receivers signed) and they had nothing there.

  434. LizKauai:

    http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=5802

"MEET THE SKILL GUYS: One day after all the big guys hogged most of the attention from the media, undrafted free agent wide receivers <b<Davone Bess and Jayson Foster along with running backs Jamele Parmale and Lex Hilliard, both sixth-round picks, were in high demand after the morning practice.

And in the afternoon session, they each showed why they were deserving of a little buzz, as Bess made a couple of impressive grabs and Foster displayed some of his raw speed running deep patterns, while Parmale and Hilliard ran in between the tackles and in the open field with good success. Bess was projected by the draft advisory board to be a third-round pick so he is trying to prove something while he's here.

"I didn't run a good 40 at the Combine, but a lot of scouts knew I wasn't a 4.3 guy but I have no idea (why he wasn't picked)," said Bess, who caught 293 passes for 3,610 yards and 41 touchdowns over three years at Hawaii. "My specialty is my run after the catch and just my ability to get out there and make plays. Everybody's entitled to their own opinions, you can't judge people for what they think, but at the same time if you watch tape you can see where the flaws are, you can see where people are lacking and their weaknesses and consistency. I think I'm doing all right but I definitely can do better.""

  436. LizKauai:

Dolphins Notebook: Free agent Bess turning heads

DAVIE — Offensive coordinator Dan Henning, a veteran of 28 NFL seasons, likes what he has seen from rookie wideout Davone Bess.

Sure hands. Sharp routes. Nice dreads. Henning, 65, looked to narrow the generational gap when he complimented Bess' signature blond-tipped dreadlocks during Saturday's practice.

Henning, who even asked Bess for the name of his hairdresser, may have been joking. But for Bess, it was nice to be noticed again.

During last weekend's NFL draft, Bess was ignored for two days.

When the Dolphins offered a free-agent deal, Bess jumped at the chance, especially since no one on Miami's current roster caught more than two touchdowns or had more than 425 receiving yards.
    ...
Bess, who caught 108 passes in 2007 and 41 touchdowns in three college seasons, looks to make the most of his chance with Miami.

He has stood out among the 30 undrafted players in this weekend's rookie mini-camp.

"I see a player that has pretty good ball skills," coach Tony Sparano said.

Following Saturday's morning practice, Sparano questioned all the rookies' conditioning. But Bess showed his endurance during a strong practice in the afternoon.

Bess, 22, can run pass routes all day. He had no choice in Hawaii's high-scoring passing offense, but he left school a year early when coach June Jones bolted for SMU and quarterback Colt Brennan headed to the NFL.

A few words on Colt on the redskins website.

    10:02 a.m. ET
    Colt Brennan

Sixth-round draft pick Colt Brennan looks antsy. The Hawaii product looks like he wants to run, drop back, and throw the ball 50 yards.

    Coaches won't let him.

Mid-field, quarterbacks are practicing the fundamentals after snaps, under the watchful eye of offensive assistant Chris Meidt.

Brennan is standing off to the side, watching. Every now and then, he'll simulate what other quarterbacks are doing. He'll toss the ball into the air, and then catch it.

"He wants to throw [with the other quarterbacks], but we tell him, ?You're not ready,'" Jim Zorn said.

Had a chance to watch the K5 program. Cool stuff! Now all the guys have to do it repeat it several years in a rowl over several decades, in order to be taken seriously.
