Rainbow Wahine receive NCAA berth
By Stephen Tsai
Surprise, surprise, surprise.
Against all odds, the Rainbow Wahine softball team is going to The Dance.
Even coach Bob Coolen thought the Rainbows' season ended with Friday night's 2-1 loss to Nevada. Who would have thought the NCAA would invite four of seven WAC teams to the Regionals.
UH plays in the Arizona State-host Regional Friday and Saturday. The Rainbows leave Wednesday.

The Warriors had a secret.
When it appeared Greg McMackin would be promoted to head coach and Nick Rolovich, then City College of San Francisco's quarterback coach, would be asked to join McMackin's coaching staff, they both knew of a gifted quarterback who could instantly compete for a starting job.
In one junior-college season, Jeremiah Masoli led CCSF to the national championship. He had ties to Hawai‘i (Saint Louis School graduate), familiarity with the offensive system, was coached by Rolovich and, best of all — but known only to a few — he could transfer after his freshman season.
But there are rules and there are Guys' Rules. Under Code 5-CA, right after the rule against dating your best friend's ex-girlfriend, there is a clause that Division I-A coaches don't do uncool things to junior-college coaches.
CCSF coach George Rush not only is a good friend to Rolovich and McMackin, but he always was good to UH. After signing quarterbacks Brent Rausch and Greg Alexander, the Warriors pulled back on Masoli, believing it would be better to let him go back to CCSF and compete for another national title.
But after the signing date, Masoli decided he wanted to transfer to a D-1 school. He let it be known he would be eligible for the 2008 season. He was fair game, and UH tried to re-enter the recruiting competition, but by then, the big schools were involved.
Masoli signed a scholarship agreement with Oregon.
The Warriors will be OK. Rausch and Alexander will join Tyler Graunke and Inoke Funaki in the competition for the starting quarterback's job.
Most of all, by doing the honorable thing — not coveting another team's quarterback — the Warriors will earn respect in the junior-college community that will help them in the future.

My coaching career was brief and very unsuccessful.
Twenty-two years ago, I was deemed a "coach" after earning a certificate in Lamaze class, empowered to say "hee-hee, hoo-hoo" during my wife's contractions.
Child birth?
No problem for The Coach.
At about 11 p.m. July 12, my wife's bag broke. We went to Castle Medical Center, ready to welcome the first of our three children into the world.
We had a pillow (the only equipment we needed, according to our Lamaze instructor).
And then we waited.
And waited.
July 13 was the supplemental draft for my Fantasy football team. I wrote a draft list. She crumpled it. I had to phone in my picks to a proxy during the 2 minutes the wife was able to nap.
And then we waited.
And waited.
After 20 hours, the contractions became more severe. During a particularly violent one, I decided to break out the secret weapon.
I held her hand.
I said, firmly: Hee-hee, hoo-hoo ..."
To which she said: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DO YOU THINK THAT HELPS?"
And after that, she spoke only in capital letters.
By the 22nd hour, her face was scrunched, and I was holding Rocky Balboa's hand: "CUT ME! CUT ME!"
I still have difficulty watching the first Rocky movie.
At one point, she yelled: "WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?"
A nurse rushed in. I told the nurse: "I only told her everything will be all right. Hee-hee, hoo-hoo."
The nurse gave a look I hadn't seen since I told people of my theory that if the Earth stopped spinning we would all get dizzy.
After 26 hours and a C-section (Rocky Balboa got her wish), we had a daughter.
So, fellow fathers, on this special day, please be especially appreciative of all mothers. From childbirth on, they do all of the hard work that can't be solved by hee-hee, hoo-hoo.

Good Morning and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the moms out there in Tsaiko-land. You too, ST.
I/we appreciate all that you (moms and ST) do and contribute to making this a wonderful place!
Some really sweet person sent me a Mother’s Day greeting making me an honorary mom. Thank you for that bright spot in my day(week)!

Have fun golfing! Gigi, even if not sunny, still need to wear sunscreen. That will get you every time.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
Loved today's lessons in life Stephen!
And since I didn't have a chance to comment on this on yesterday's blog, just wanted to say how PROUD I am of the baseball team! 2 TREMENDOUS victories at NMSU yesterday! Can't wait for baseball this week, but sad that it's the last home series.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there. Reminds me I need to call mine.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Did I mention we're going to have a Warrior Beat Golf Tournament?
OK, it's a putt-putt golf tournament, probably at Bay View.
But we'll have prizes, including a hole-in-one contest. We'll give away a car. OK, it'll be a remote-control car (in the theme of mini-golf).
Details to come.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:42 am
oooh. Still no kope. I had to sit so I turned on the TV and caught the mid to end of this film on IFC-

Hi Midori7 -
I knew all this talk of "hee-hee" and "heeeeeee!" and "hehehe" was going to catch your attention and get you to blog! Jonathan Hee (7 for 10) and his Rainbow teammates sure had a strong offensive performance yesterday!
Please give your mom, an extra big hug from the Tsaikos today... (((Mrs. A-House!)))
Hiya boss ST!
May 11th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Hi Liz! Sure got some big heads in your family!
I'm going to have nightmares thinking of all those dancing heads!
May 11th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Arrrrrghh!!@#&*...CUT ME!!! CUT ME!!!!
May 11th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Too bad Re: Masoli. I suppose if he really wanted to come home and play, the UH coaches would have welcomed him. Of course he'd be competing against two JC recruits and the returning corp of QB's. Is Masoli 4/3 or 3/3 guy?
May 11th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Very nice job Stephen - TWICE!
Will be sure to have Mrs. d1shima read them.
brew,
I believe he is 4/3.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:59 am
ST,
I hope you are writing a book about your humorous stories, and one-liners?
May 11th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Baseball (MLB) update:
Oakland A's lead Texas Rangers, 8-6, bottom of 7th.
Kurt Suzuki is 0-4.
Phillies lead SF Giants, 3-2, top of 6th.
Shane Victorino is 0-3.
It's cool that in honor of Mother's Day, most of the players (and Umps) have pink sweat bands, pink ribbons, and some pink undershirts. Some of the players (like Suzuki) are using pink bats. Very nice!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Mahalo d1! So - did "the boys" fixed a special breakfast for Mrs. D1? Coffee, juice, and a box of malasadas.....???
Remember ST posted another touching story about daughter #2 - right when she left for school. "Don't forget to take your meds!" Big man, big heart.... and "ST" might also be short for softie.... but in a good way. When do we get the story about #3?
May 11th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Hi brew808!
I wanted to thank you for the donation to our preschool. There is no address for you... even tho we did write a thank you note. SteveM said to just post the thank you on the blog. so ...THANK YOU so much.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Now I understand what all you bloggers are talking about when you're talking about the blue screen. All this time, my screen was always white, but somethings wrong.. it's blue. Can't read clearly. Wow.. now I sound like everybody else that is mad with this set up.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Hi Wena! You (and Bren) are most welcome! My best wishes to you and the Little Learners School! No return address???
I know....
BTW -
❤ ❀ Happy Mother’s Day Wena!!! ❀ ❤
May 11th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
especially to all the special moms of Tsaiko Nation
ST - great stories
May 11th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
It is the big Mama herself -- Wena! I know that is going to come across so wrong.
Hope things are going well with preparations for school.
Happy Mother's Day!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
hey feedback - how come cannot get past 287 on the other post?
May 11th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Wena - I bet you're using Safari on your new Mac laptop! (BTW - congratulations on that too!)
SteveM had a solution to this "blue-flu" on the Mac/Safari. Open up the WB. Don't refresh. Now go back to HA home page (use top menu tabs - one step). While it is loading, Empty Cache on your Safari browser. Then return to the WB page by using the Back button. It seems to work - but you have to do it every time you log on... Hope it works for you.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Gave up trying to load/refresh the last blog. I will try again later (maybe next year).
Good luck to Kekoa! GG and Mr. GG are heading out to learn golf from you today. Whoo-hoo! That would be fun to go out and learn with them -- but mostly to watch!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
This follows on the blatant violations regarding Reggie Bush and USC! IMHO - sure would be nice if they applied the same rules and penalties to all institutions and schools - including the BCS "big boys"! NAIL-'EM!!!

May 11th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
brew,
The boys had mimosas, muffins and skillet breakfast ready when we got home from church. Mom was impressed
Malasadas? Hmmm, there's always Father's Day!
Happy Mother's Day Wena. You'd think the Blog Gods would cut the Moms some slack on this day!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I think ST has forgotten his actual first coaching gig: assistant coach for my AYSO team back in the 70s. Our head coach was a volunteer dad who used to run around going "tweet, tweet" because he didn't have whistle. "Hee, hee, hoo, hoo" is still cooler than "tweet, tweet."
Happy Mother's Day moms!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Good Afternoon Tsaikos!! A Special Happy Mothers Day to all you Mommies out there!!
Took my mom out to breakfast this morning before heading out to Navy Marine course driving range to join Kekoa, Gigi & hubby. Kekoa is a very patient man and I think that they did a better than both of us thought they would. I had to leave them early to watch my nieces bball game before they headed to the putting green.
All pictures and videos are $50 each. Send payments to me in a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope and I will send them for your enjoyment.
May 11th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
wafan,
I join you in anxiously awaiting Kekoa's Komments of Caddyshack-Revisited
May 11th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Hey Stretch! Thanks for the headsup. $50 huh?
Yes- we must not underestimate the power of a determined gigi
May 11th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
I'd also like to hear how the GGs did on the golf course.
Stretch-
Fifty bucks?! Seeing the GGs first golf lesson with Kekoa.......priceless. Hee hee.
May 11th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Baseball (MLB) update:
Oakland A’s beat Texas Rangers, 12-6 Yeehaw!!! Yes - I'm an A's fan!
Kurt Suzuki went 0-5, hitless in his third game in a row. His BA is now down to 0.255 but the A's are in first place in the AL West, and have the 2nd best record in the AL.
Phillies trail the SF Giants, 4-3, bottom of the 8th.
Shane Victorino is 1-4.
There are several postponed games - bad weather in the Mideast. I wonder if MLB will honor Mother's and the Cancer Awareness (ACS) by wearing pink for those games tomorrow, or whenever the make-up games are played. It is a wonderful promotion and event!
May 11th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Liz - I figure with the curiousity of the Tsaiko's around the world, I could have charged more but $50 is enough. Did she wear a muumuu or not?? What did her swing look like?? Will she give Michelle Wie rubs?? Is she ready for Kauai?? All the questions can be answered in the collection of pictures and videos.
May 11th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Hi Wafan-
I enjoy your comments on the blog. (I met you at Chinn's Kahala CC) Hope you're having a happy Mother's Day. Did you call your mom yet?
May 11th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Stretch - maybe we should just make the checks out to .... some LV place?!! Save you some postage.
Hiya A-Sports! How's your kid .... little joe-y?
May 11th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Hey Brew! How ya doin', Sweetie!
Joe is at my sister's today doing the uncle thing and giving her a happy Mother's Day (I hope). It could also be that she now has three kids to deal with. Bwahahaha.
He is also giving me a happy Mother's Day by giving me what my sister calls a "Mental Health Day" I am enjoying this beyond words.
May 11th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Okay - SF Giants beat the Phillies 4-3.
Shane Victorino went 1-4 and is now hitting 0.232 for the season.
The Giants are now 16-22 and struggling. I bet that anyone visiting SF in August and wanting to see a Giants game - shouldn't have any problems getting good seat/tickets! BTW - Summer evenings in SF can be chilly.
May 11th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
brew808 - that sounds like a good idea. Give me some credit for my next trip!!
May 11th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
A-Sports: Wait - if Joe is there.... then your sister would have four kids to deal with....
Did you see this video I found? Is that A-Joe running a round/dancing? and some other person doing the karaoke!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyjq9RJ-_yM&feature=related
May 11th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Okay, baseball is another game I have to learn about. Thanks for the updates and the info!!
May 11th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
But we know you have fishing covered!
May 11th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Brew-
I tend to like non-contact sports, like...um...golf, and yes, fishing. Well, golf is a non-contact sport unless you make contact with a tree. Fishing is also a non-contact sport unless you make contact with a hook. Haha.
May 11th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

So I'm looking at the front page of the Advertiser website and something is not quite right. There is a feature article about the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard yet in the Advertising Supplements section there is a link for the Pearl Harbor "Navel" Shipyard. It must be the Navy's new secret weapon, the belly button ship. It is armed with lint.

From an Email Buddy.... Happy Mother's Day!
The One Flaw In Women
By the time the Lord made woman, he was into his sixth day of working overtime.
An angel appeared and said, 'Why are you spending so much time on this one?'
And the Lord answered, 'Have you seen my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable,
but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on diet coke and leftovers,
have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee
to a broken heart - and she will do everything with only two hands.'
The angel was astounded at the requirements. 'Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the
standard model? That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish.'
' But I won't,' the Lord protested. 'I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart.
She already heals herself when she is sick AND can work 18 hour days.'
The angel moved closer and touched the woman. 'But you have made her so soft, Lord.'
'She is soft,' the Lord agreed, ‘but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or
accomplish.'
'Will she be able to think?', asked the angel.
The Lord replied, 'Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate.'
The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek. 'Oops, it looks like you
have a leak in this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one.'
'That's not a leak,' the Lord corrected, 'that's a tear!'
'What's the tear for?' the angel asked.
The Lord said, 'The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love,
her loneliness, her grief and her pride.'
The angel was impressed. 'You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Woman is truly amazing.'
And she is!
Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness,
love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take 'no' for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE TINY FLAW IN WOMEN,
IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.
PLEASE pass this along to your women friends and relatives to remind them just how much they mean to you.

LTUF,
That was very nice. I printed it and gave it to my wife.
Tsai-Meister,
Great story about our coaches, good example of class. But I was really impressed with your story of Mothers Day, Birth and Rocky Balboa. That was amazing, I've never seen a writer managing to weave Rocky into a story like that so flawless.
To Wena and all the Tsaiko-Mothers out there,
A very happy Mothers Day. All us male Tsaikos love and admire you for being the Gate Keepers from one world to another. May your day be the best, Aloha.
May 11th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Hi gang!
If you would like to see photos of me and hubby and Kekoa at the golf course, please click on my name to view them.
Thanks go to Kekoa for patiently teaching us.
And thanks go to Stretch for demonstrating his swing.
Altogether, a pleasant way to spend Mothers Day.
May 11th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Stretch, I didn't realize you were photographing me! ugh! Please burn them. How embarrassing. The photo I am releasing doesn't show my awful swings.
May 11th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Upon return to my ceded lands of Kapolei, I look back at a very satisfying day on the range. I use the term loosely because I sincerely thought that it would be like a day on a rifle range except it would be golf balls flying all over the place!
It was a very productive day. The goals I had set for the happy couple were met and actually exceded.
> My 1st goal was to make sure they hit every ball as straight as possible, and at no time would it leave the tee totally out of control. Done.
> My 2nd goal was to teach them to be consistent and be able to run that mental checklist right thru to impact. Done.
> My 3rd goal was to establish the mental fortitude to stay the course. If a mistake was made or a bad swing executed...run the checklist and make the correction, then drive on. No pilikia, no huhu and no break concentration on the mission. The jury is still out on - that all important mental part of their game.
> Learning the nuances of the putting game was an eye-opener for both of them. Too hard vs too soft a stroke on the ball was huge. Alignment and touch. Reading the greens for uphill or down hill, left or right break was challenging. This is a work in progress.
>> Overall comments: Passed over as a draft choice, but strong possibility of being a Free Agent with a future. All depends on her desire to improve. She is a quick study and shows signs of being able to take instruction. She listened and learned her lessons well! Outshined Hubby on a few great shots off the tee!
Congratulations to both of you. You have picked up this crazy game faster than most people do. Now you know the "how" and the "why" it will be a matter of practice, practice, practice. You can and will improve, you both have the determination.
Thank you so much for lunch. I really appreciate it! Once more with feeling...Happy Mother's Day Gigi!
May 11th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Where's Garret this weekend? I miss his free links.
May 11th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

Happy Mother's Day, everyone.
That's a nice story about Masoli. Glad to see there's some coaches with class when it comes to recruiting.
And Stephen's story is the story of the day. HEE HEE HEE HEE.

May 11th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Stretch, are you kidding? Did you bring a video camera, too???
May 11th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Bravo gigi / hubby / Kekoa!
I'll admit you all exceeded my expectations.
Hmmm...maybe gigi can be a return specialist
For those of you who like to get L-O-W-D-O-W-N

Looking forward to a great evening on the lawn at the Royal Hawaiian.
May 11th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Yes I did Gigi. Mahalo.
You and David have the right attitude and desire to learn the game. Perfect practice will make perfect. Work at your game all the time and you will be rewarded in a way that is very fulfulling and relaxing. Don't fret about the distance or the scores, they will come with experience and play. Just enjoy the outdoors and the excercise. Those are fringe benefits you want to hold on to forever.
May 11th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

We just got back from the mall (a Mother's Day tradition) and Hawaiian Memorial Park. It's amazing how nice the cemetery looks on special days.

Holy cow, I wasn't imagining things — Nā Wahine are in the NCAA softball tournament!

Here's a better bracket:

May 11th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
I'm still trying to get my head around the idea that the NCAA let four WAC teams into the tournament. And Fresno State got the #16 seed and is hosting its regional!
May 11th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Jason,
thank you for the Great News!!!!! so where do they play the first game?
May 11th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Didn't you guys say the coach is the coolest?
May 11th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
UH will play Mississippi State. #6 Arizona State is hosting the regional, they face Stony Brook.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
It sounds like the NCAA gave a shoutout to the UH Wahine Softball Families and team, recognizing the big support that women sports have gotten here. That Moniz lady Administrator is doing a great job for all the women. Sure looks that way to me. If I can only convince her to call the UH Men's Sports programs Warriors. She keeps finding "reasons" to say Rainbow too. She's old school that way. Still, 19 out of 20 ain't bad, right?! Congrats to the Women's softball team!!!!!
Watch this. Hey Marilyn: GO WARRIORS!!!! (heh heh)
May 11th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.
I'm having a very quiet Mother's Day. Hubby & daughter made me breakfast and I'm still digesting it. No diiner for me.
Since fuud is always a topic here, found out Friday that the lease is up for all the businesses on the Ewa side of Keeaumoku, mauka of Rycroft, which includes Sorabol and my favorite lunchtime take-out, Fairwoods. Don't know when the last day is. Not sure how far up the block it goes. I'm hoping Taishoken stays. My mom keeps talking about this other place that serves Korean cold noodles. Better get there soon. Don't know what the plans are for the block. : (
May 11th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
ST have you heard anything on the bracelets?
May 11th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Kekoa I got back on the tsaikos site and cleaned it up. Alls well for now!
May 11th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Gigi:
Approach to the ball looks good. Actually, pretty good.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Happy Mothers Day to all moms, past, present and future.
Special shoutout to little Sassy, you are a great mom.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Oh, Marilyn had nothing to do with this one. This was all the WAC, Coolen and, of course, Ms. Robinson.

Great news on the Softball team!!! I had lost hope with La Tech winning the tournament. The run they made last year had to have helped them get back in this year.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
I didn't think they'd get in either. But I just so happened to look at my TV, which was showing ESPNEWS, and I saw Hawai‘i on the screen for a second when they were talking about the tournament. I thought, "What?!" Saw nothing on the blog (figured Stephen would have known first), nothing in breaking news, so I went to ESPN.com. Lo and behold, they were there!
May 11th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
ST didn't know squat about it.
Then Coolen called with the news.
I'm stunned.
May 11th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
ST - so you get to travel to Arizona to cover the games??
May 11th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Hola jm2375! Happy MD! You mean nangmyun cold noodles? My fave! No more over here... except imported dry ones from Honolulu.
OK. On my way to #1 son's for surf and turf.
Pix laterz.
CONGRATULATIONS NA WAHINE!!!
May 11th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
I'm waiting for Herman to take some sort of credit.....
May 11th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
What a pleasant surprise! Na Wahine given an at large berth. Who woulda thunk? I think many people were hoping they'd get one, but honestly, I think everybody succumbed to UH's history (in any sports) of getting snubbedd time and time again and already accepted not getting in. I wonder if the notoriety and national attention of the UH football program for the last couple years is giving us respect not just in football but the athletics program in general. JD should ride the wave on this one.
I'm ecstatic! Especially with so many local girls on the team. IMUA!
May 11th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
So what the heck is with the blue screen?
I can't even get into the blog because of it. I had to drive down to the office.
Grrrrr.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Wow ST, I gotta use Firefox at work. IE ok at home. WB slow to load weekdays between 9A - 12N
May 11th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Congratulations to the Wahine. Now if only our Wahine Basketball team could get the same kind of "love" and consideration by the NCAA at post-season time, things would be even better.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
ST -- there are two different "blue screens" being described here.... (1) blue and totally blank and (2) blue background showing through every other comment box and your words, Commercialds, smileys, blockquoted text floats like 3D objects over the blue background but still readable.
The blank blue box (1) seems to affect PCs more along with a load delay up to 30 minutes. The blue background is usually in Safari after the first refresh while in the blog. The refresh is usually fast (3-10 seconds) but...
If you don't want the beautiful 3D effects in Safari (and it is already blue), you must go back to main HA page and RELOAD. The links will be blue poisoned too, but the reload will correct it to brown. Once corrected, Go to the Safari menu and EMPTY THE CACHE. Then hit the back button to go back to the blog.
Seems that only going back to main HA page and reloading can correct the BLOG problem. Maybe they are trying to get more hits for the main HA page?
May 11th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
ST -- if you are in the office, bring your MacBook to the Liliha Marriott on your way home...
May 11th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
SteveM
I was thinking of just shooting the Web designer.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Don't do anything Rash, ST. Couple of Kekoa's hand grenades in the server room will be a good start. Better but not as gratifying as baseball bats.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
tsk, tsk. haha, people!
May 11th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
BTW, I hope the server room is unmanned and not located in India as homey suggests. Kekoa does not really have hand grenades or LAW's --he has witnesses.
ST, maybe you can organize a blog party for the web designers, techs, and management that approve of all this so we can congratulate them...if they are not in India too.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Kekoa:
Good thing I was not your "student" today.
After reading your goals, we would still be out there trying to acheive #1.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Actually, I'm pretty mellow today.
That's what happens when the NCAA actually does something good.

May 11th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Stacy Kaneshiro walked in the office.
We told him about the softball team.
He has the stunned look on his face.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I bet most people have that same feeling/reaction when they first hear about the Wahine. I always thought that the NCAA hated Hawaii.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
For once, the NCAA fooling Rainbow Wahine fans turned to be a good thing. For me, a very pleasant surprise.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Congratulations to the UH Wahine Softball team and best wishes in the tournament.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Wow.
Bill Duffy should have asked to hold the Mayo.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
So, now they're off to ASU.
Hmmm. Whom do we know is from ASU?
May 11th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
HF?
May 11th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
I bet they won't acknowledge he was from there, they are just glad he is not there anymore.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
ST,
Should I mail the letter to you or have Al deliver the letter to you?
The lesser of two evils
May 11th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Herman knowing all the problems that he has caused the university and unable to do anything about a promised 400K, worked his magic and conveniently was able to get the Na Wahine into the dance and of course in the ASU bracket.....;)
Watch the team get the "first class" accommodations, all access to the ASU field so the team can practice whenever they like, and WAC umpires....just watch....
Not sure if anybody mentioned it but props to Dean Wilson for the top 10 finish and upping his money total.

May 11th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
I'll bet ASU will deny his exsistance there. The alumni association will say he went to Arizona. (lol)
May 11th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I thought HF left ASU on good terms. If so, why doesn't he get a job there?
May 11th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
congrats to the wahine softball team!
did they ever get their last year's bracelets?
May 11th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Again, Happy Mother's Day to the real moms.
I know I know, you real moms think I tease about how it feels to be a real mom, that we guys don't know what its like to give birth? Pffffft... Put both index fingers in your mouth, press the index fingers firmly against the thumbs positioned on both sides of your cheeks, hold the cheeks very tight by squeezing the thumbs and index fingers together, then pull your upper lip upwards and over the back of your head so that your upper lip has gone over your head and back down around your ears. What can be so hard about that?
May 11th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
i dont think the former delusional one has that much clout.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Aloha Tsaikos
Hope everyone had a positively memorable Mothers' Day! If you didn't...GET DOWN. GET DOWN. Down into the front leaning rest and give me PUSH-UPS. Keep going...I'll tell you when you're tired! Bwaahahahaha
There's no excuse for not celebrating this Day of Love for those who loved us first. LTUHF, mahalo for that wonderful post that touched all the right strings.
Kazz, when I first read your prediction on the baseball team, I remember thinking that sweeping the final two games might be a looong stretch. When NMSU came up with their big inning in the 2nd game, I thought that the long stretch had turned into inter-planetary travel. What a great example of fan support by you!
Kekoa/Gigi and Dave. Thanks for giving me hope that I'll be able to learn to play golf that way I'd like to learn...for good company, enjoyment, and exercise.
Congratulations to Na Wahine SB team. This weekend, both the guys and gals showed that the sun still shines behind the clouds. When there didn't seem to be a way...there was a Way. Sports...not winning or losing, but how you play the game...gotta love it!
Liz...thanks for the report from SJ and Myki. I'm anxiously waiting to hear their progress through the Inside Passage.
May 11th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Las Vegas,
I watched Shift Happens 2x. It was more thought provoking when played w/o audio, thinking about the changes that have happened in my lifetime. Thanks.
Anyone heard any good news from our guys in mini camps?

There's something coming up on KGMB about RGM at Texans camp.
May 11th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Mahalo for the pix!!!
May 11th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
There is a poll on the Texans website that asks which undrafted free agent the fans are most exceited about and RGM is leading the poll at 37% almost 20% more than the next highest free agent.
May 11th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Hey, Duffer, whatever you think works best.
Thanks again.
As for the bracelets, I'm not sure if they got them yet. I'll have to ask.
May 11th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
RGM works hard. He's got a good a shot as anybody.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
oohrah!
hope they do well like last year's that is what probably got them in this year.
that could go a long way for the program in the year's to come.
does the aussie girl comeback next year to bolster the pitching?
we sure could have used her this year.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
hmmmm. duffer.
i could take a connecting flight north from ogg to hnl.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
gigi......after the fumble at the university of hawaii, surely you jest.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Not much else out there about our guys. There are a few small comments about RGM on the Texans message board. Mostly just a few comments from fans saying that they think he may actually make the team. Nothing at all about C.J. on the Falcons board. There is a lot of Matt Ryan bashing on the Falcons board though. Comments about a weak, limp arm, slow release, inaccuracy, etc. Guess it isn't always good to be the "top rated" quarterback. Too many expectations.

Bighilofan2 -- since it is after 9:00 PM and I had a few minutes, I have compiled a list of regular posters I recognize. I have not included most who first appeared since November 2007 and this year since there is minimal "history", except those still posting today (sorry if I missed some--I'm doing this from memory only).
The 238 regular posters I recall are listed below. Some have been missing earlier, but I contend that many are missing or rarely posting since we started blue-blogging. I list our old friends consecutively, otherwise we would have a 250+ line post (if possible). This is why I ask for a "Speaker for Dead Day"...

SteveM, 239 names! Theres a lot of people that I used see post quite often on that list. I wonder if it is just because it is a slow time for UH sports or if they are having problems geting to the blog site?

I've said it before and I will say it again... we had the talent this past season.... however... a good car with good working parts can easily be wasted with a BAD DRIVER.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:11 am
awww, I missed a bunch of mom's on my little list for mother's day. Sorry! Sorry! Thanks brew for picking up where I forgot.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:14 am
HiFlyer -- actually I held back some. Yes, a slow time for UH sports has affected some. I would rather attribute the missing balance... 1,260+ ... as being disinterested due to the off-season or mostly lurking.
Also, we cannot even guess the number of lurkers who never posted. But the 230 or so should give us a representative cross section if we could hear from them.
Work day for me tomorrow. Good night everyone!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Congrats to the Wahine softball team. Play your hearts out.
I may have missed it but did they get their championship bracelets?
May 12th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Kazz,
could you give us a little backdrop on da basketball coach? maybe we supposed to give JD some time because he might already be on da case and working his own ideas, or maybe he no can say right now. what you think?

I would like to say THANK YOU to ST and your wife
WENA, for allowing us to play here, for being good sports. Best of luck to you both in all that you do.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Thanks HiFlyer.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:35 am
ST the last I spoke with JD he said that the bracelets had been purchased and that they where going to be presented during the playoffs, he also said he was going to ask you to say something to the girls, well the playoffs are over and they still haven't gotten the bracelets. I guess an email to JD is in order, will let you all know what I get back from him, I know he is a busy man but this is already a year over due to the girls, and I would think that they would get it done ASAP.

Absolutely FANtastic for the Wahine! Had no idea that it was even remotely possible for them to get a bid to the regional softball tournament. Alas, we cannot be there to cheer them on, but we'll be following them via radio - assuming that the games will be broadcast here in Hawai`i. .
Brew - DrDoc is an As fan while my heart remains in San Francisco - strictly a family thing. My dad was drafted by the NY Giants out of high school, but the US govt's draft took precedence. By the time he came back from Korea, he was in a different place psychologically and was no longer interested in playing baseball although he stayed with the sport in other ways until he died in 1980. We went to hundreds of games together while I was a kid.
Actually, the Giants are doing better than expected. It'll take a couple of years get the bondyuck out their collective mouths.
D1shima - we'll make malassadas for you on Fadda's Day if you like.
Hope my mouth heals by dinnertime on Tuesday. It's the Big Three-OH for us on May 13 so we'll want to do something special. Anyone got suggestions that doesn't include food in case I still can't eat?
Count us in on the miniature golf tournament.
Good News/Bad News - we collected over 720 cans and bottles in slightly less than an hour on a stretch of road less than a mile long. That will help pay for the Pau Hana Party next Sunday after the Quick 'n Dirty CleanUp.
Good Night - it's later than I thought.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:12 am
2007 SEASON TICKET HOLDERS- I need kokua, please, I need 2, possibly 3 tickets to the OREGON STATE away GAME - they go on sale tomorrow to 2007 season ticket holders only.
MAHALO!

To all karaoke-tsinging Tsaikos:
Thought you'd be interested to hear: Last night I went to a party at Krazy Karaoke, and it was held in the "green room," No. 3, the giant room right next door to the "lavender room," No. 2 that we had used for the April 10 K-Call. And boy, was the experience different!
Not only was there super-cool air conditioning and tons of elbow space in that room (I hear it can hold 50), but the sound system was far better — no feedback, clear sound, three mikes that worked great. That place has got to get it so that all their rooms offer consistent quality. Hmm.

Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Great Morning All.
Pleasant surprise for the softball team. Geev 'um Gals! Show 'em you deserve the opportunity.
Absolutely wonderful time at the Boz concert last night. Listening to some favorites got me choked up as it's the first time hearing them live.
Luckily the ushers resolved that after a little while.
Especially gratifying to hear the tunes with full orchestra (Matt Catingub).
Only negative was two inebriated wahine decided to try "upgrading" themselves directly in front of us and show off their "dancing" skills.
Create a great day Tsaikos.

May the luck-of-the-draw continue for ALL UH sports teams this 2008. Congrats to the Softball Wahines, keep it going.

Hoohiki,
Sorry, we had so many activities this weekend that I had to give something up if I didn't want to neglect my wife with what little downtime there was. Since this was shortly after her birthday and it was Mother's Day weekend (we celebrate it as a weekend, not as a day), that would not have been a good thing! So, after I posted that last article on Friday I did not post...or even read the blog.
I just caught up with the blog. ST, thank you for the awesome blog entries! So much information, especially during this normally down time for news. Congratulations to the Rainbow Wahine softball team! I hope that they do well at Arizona State.
Some of the stuff from this weekend for my family: Faith's last soccer game (they won 4-0, winning their last 5 games to end up 5-3...they won every game I attended), Hometown Buffet (Lori had a free meal due to birthday), Legoland with friends, Seaworld with other friends, movie night at home with Lori (we hadn't seen Transformers before), etc.

SteveM,
I talked with Cliff on the phone and he let me know that he cannot get to the blog right now because his computer has a virus and someone is helping him recover from it. He should be back on the blog soon and I look forward to hearing about his playground that is about to have its grand opening!

Morning, Barry, morning night and Mainland owls.
Wow, that surely was a reverse shocker that the Wahine got picked for the regionals. My only worry is pitching, wish we could add the Aussie girl to the line-up. If their hitting will come around, they've got a chance, go Wahine.
Where's our super info collector Garret? We need some reports from our boys in camps.
Have a great day, Tsaikos.

Stretch, simplest way- open a gmail account and upload to Picasa. Better than YouTube if they are large. Or open a YouTube account... all are free!
Or make a cd and bring it over and we can hook up in LIH.

I just read on UH Athletics website the press release says FL game tickets will be sold beginning today May 12th to 2007 season ticket holders only, and up to max of 6 tix. Then if any are left they will sell to general public beginning June 2nd. I was hoping next they would sell to $50 deposit holders for season tix, then general public, but I guess not. If any 07 season ticket holders have 4 extra tix they won't be using please let me know! Mahalo!
