Alexander, Rausch work out
By Stephen Tsai
The Warriors had their first unsupervised field drills today. Inoke Funaki served as the unofficial coach. Mike Washington, Aaron Bain, Leon Wright-Jackson, Vili Nauahi and Jameel Dowling also had leadership roles.
Here's a picture of Inoke Funaki, Greg Alexander, Brent Rausch and Mike Tinoco.

Here's Greg Alexander. ("When I first saw him, I wanted to know, who's the D-end?" Funaki recalled).
* * *
Here are Rausch, Alexander and Tinoco:

Running back Camron Carmona said he will transfer to a Division II or Division III team. He said he is considering Midwestern State (Texas), Chapman or Occidental.
"I spoke with coach (Greg) McMackin, and he was really helpful," said Carmona, who has one season of eligibility remaining. "It's an easy break. I'd love to stay here, but for me, it's not the best place for me as far as football situation."
Carmona joined the Warriors last summer, reuniting with his Mater Dei High teammate, Colt Brennan.
At the suggestion of the coaches, he moved from cornerback to running back. He served on the scout team last season.
Carmona was not invited to training camp, which has a 105-player roster limit. But he was asked to join the team on Aug. 25, the first day of the fall semester, when rosters may expand.
"I love the camaraderie and friends I made in Hawai‘i," Carmona said. "I met people I'll be friends with for the rest of my life. I'm sad about leaving, but I have to look out for myself and my situation."
Carmona leaves in good academic standing. Because he was not on scholarship, he will not impact UH's APR rating.
* * *
Quarterbacks Kiran Kepo‘o and Bryce Kalauokaaea will report to the Warriors on Aug. 25.
That's also when quarterback Bryant Moniz will report. Moniz, a Leilehua High graduate, played at Fresno City College last season.

Shane Austin is on schedule for a full recovery from a broken right foot suffered on the final play of the Warrior Bowl.
The cast was removed Monday.

Colt Brennan took a short break to attend his agent Ryan Tollner's wedding this past weekend in Irvine, Calif. Among the guests were Ben Roethlisberger and Trent Edwards.

Morning, folks.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Wow!...there's spiders 'n snakes in here this morning!
Quite a shakeout in players ST. Will there ever be a complete listing of the 105?
May 28th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Wow.
Chapman and even moreso, Occidental, are tough choices academically.
The OC at Occidental used to coach #1 son at Eastern Oregon. Good offensive mind; real nice guy.
Good Luck to Carmona.
Good Luck to all the Warriors. Have a safe and productive summer.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Great Morning Stephen.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:04 am
Aloha kakahiaka! Mornin' ST!
Good luck to Camron Carmona!
whitey, sorry to hear of your loss. We'll catch up at home.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:07 am
The 105 is fluid, as they like to say in the biz.

ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
Thanks for the update on the off season Warrior happenings. Hopefully, the personal workouts during the summer will yield a stronger, faster, and skillful team in the Fall.
ST, thanks also for the early post. Am able better able to read WB early in the mornings vice afternoons and evenings. Besides, this blog changes to a chat room as the day wears on and it takes too long to catch up on the thread.

Was that your bribe to get your students to show up to class???
May 28th, 2008 at 7:14 am
Wow, I haven't seen Annoddah Dave in a coon's age! Welcome back, Dave.
Hope you can make it to the 2nd anniversary blog bash on July 10 at the SSC.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:20 am
Stretch:
It started out as a bribe, but then I worked it into a class experiment on analyzing the audience.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:21 am
Morning all! I was at Yankee stadium this past weekend and as I was walking in one of the corridors I saw a very familiar looking jersey walking my way, low and behold it was a University of Hawaii #15 Jersey. Anyways, I just wanted to share that, I thought it was pretty cool to see a Hawaii Jersey at Yankee stadium.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:23 am
Gigi,
Have been lurking all this time. Would love to attend Blog Bash. It would be helpful if ST could put the info in his daily entry rather than trying to find it in the 300+ comments each day. Thank you for the notification. Got to go to work now!
May 28th, 2008 at 7:28 am
I notice that the players are wearing the UA logo polos in the pictures. I guess no more Aloha shirt mug shots??
May 28th, 2008 at 7:30 am
Good Luck to Camron Carmona!! It is important that he takes care of his needs especially since he wasn't on scholarship.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:40 am
Mornin' las vegas! Mahalo for a great lunch the other day. Some might consider that mentaiko udon a Bizarre Foods show item, but it was ono!
702WN, great to meet you & the missus! Hope I get to meet up with you again. Ambrosial apricots! Mahalo!!!
Is Bryant Moniz related to the Moniz' on Maui?
May 28th, 2008 at 7:57 am
ST-
How do you feel about Carmona transfering? Did he fit the UH program to possibly get playing time in the future ?
Is there a chance that Raush, or Alexander would be interested in a Chat Q & A session ?
May 28th, 2008 at 8:03 am
21!
May 28th, 2008 at 8:05 am
nice shirts
May 28th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Good morning everyone!
ST -- have you analyzed your blog audience yet? Sounds like a thesis possibility...and how would you like to have us in your class? (As a young instructor, that thought would terrify me)
Good luck to Camron Carmona!
May 28th, 2008 at 8:14 am
nice UA polos, anyone know where they sell'em? Kazz?
May 28th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Good morning/afternoon, Tsaiko Nation and Tsai-Meister,
Early info today, nice. A lot of movement going on with the team, it seems all is pointed towards having a load of talent this year. Can't wait for fall training, to see how it all developes.
I totally understand the players, with no hope of starting, maybe not even any meaningful playing time, wanting to transfer. Boy, times have sure changed. You have to be really great nowadays to become a starter.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Reading Ferd's article today, he writes about how, today, prominent attorney Clyde Matsui will hear the contract dispute between Coach Jones and the UH.
If the parties can't agree on anything today, then a June 9 hearing will take place. The announcement of the pre-mediation hearings was at the bequest of Coach Jones. And Chancellor Hinshaw agreed.
Taking a quote from the article it seems like Coach Jones' side has put all their cards on the table, briefly meaning that they would have gladly paid back the 400k for not completing half a years work if wasn't for an agreement he had made with the former athletic director, HF. In that agreement, apparently conveyed by verbal and e-mails between Coach Jones and HF, holds Coach Jones responsible for completing 36 months of a 48 month contract, with the last 12 releasing from his contract.
So the contention that Coach Jones' side is going to make is that he has an agreement with HF validating why he should be released from his contract.
And the mediator, Clyde Matsui, will judge and tell both parties his opinions of the case. And then both parties can either agree on his decision. Amicably and friendly like, or it goes to arbitration.
Without HF not being present to answer, I think today's hearing is going to be
difficult for the mediator. But if the mediator says one way or the other to either parties if the statements that HF had made, either by verbal or through e-mails are binding then that should tell you what directions the parties take. For example, if he says,"I think HF messages to Coach Jones are binding". Then more likely the UH will probably back off. And there'll be no arbitration.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:13 am
good morning and a new blog up so early
hows it going everybody?
May 28th, 2008 at 9:27 am
marlis - In addition, One of UH's stance is that in the contract there is wording that states the contract may be amended only in writing signed by both parties.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:28 am

May 28th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Good luck to Carmona!
Moniz looks like he has a head injury.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:37 am
good info homey. then that should be very telling in which direction Jones' side takes...or should take. comments I read earlier on other forums show how the UH and the Chancellor shouldn't have gone after Jones, especially for all the good the coach has done. But I think the UH is doing the right thing. If UH was a private institution that's different. Where as UH is a public school the Chancellor and the school were mandated to go after Jones.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Unfortunately the same reasoning that we are going after JJ, "it is written in the contract" is the same reason we had to pay off that lame arse HF.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:41 am
You got the magic post, Stretch, turdy turd!
May 28th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Thanks, Capitol, I keep that in mind.

Warrior pics posted on the blog by the perfesser himself, swell pics of the newly renovated Ticky Vasconsellos/Rough Rider Field in the sports section. It's a great day to be Stephen Tsai. We sure get a nice number of Warriors from out Papakolea and Pauoa way. Good morning to you, Mr. Tsai.
Good luck Cam, where ever you may go.

dpk correction- it's #69. imho
May 28th, 2008 at 9:54 am
good morning everyone, its just another beautiful Hawaiian day.
#32 Marlis.
yeah i agree, as a public institution they have no choice but to pursue the matter. not an easy thing to deal with considering what JJ sacrificed and built up.
if the result of the mediation is 'cut it down the middle', is that reasonable? would most of the public accept 50/50?
May 28th, 2008 at 9:55 am

Ferd's article on Carl Benson:
Does being around a long time make one "good"? If Benson was good, why was he left behind when the "group of 8" fled the WAC?
IMHO, the group of 8, in their opinion, took the better administrative and game officials with them to the MWC leaving the "crumbs" behind - witnessing the BAD calls at games with "ZERO" penalty by the WAC for those officals seems a good indicator of this - exception, of course, is when Benson "warns" coaches to back off on their criticism of officials.
Can some one make/post a list of ALL the good things Benson has done for the WAC and UH? - I would be very interested to see what I missed!
I hope another conference STEALS him from the WAC - exception, of course, is the PAC 10 where I hope UH will end up to become one of 6 teams in the "north" conference with Washington, Washington St, Oregon, Oregon St, and Boise St. This would rival even the SEC!!!
May 28th, 2008 at 10:13 am
thank you instigator
May 28th, 2008 at 10:13 am

sorry, it was $40 and no tax!!

A-House - thanks for the polo info, i wonder if they get'em at the other exchanges too
May 28th, 2008 at 10:14 am
good morning tsaikos,
early post ST, good job. new field at Roughriders Headquarters is awesome. i saw it from the top view at Punchbowl when i went up to the National Cemetery on Monday....
good luck to Carmona, the beast met him last year during spring practice on coach mac's first official day of practice. Carmona was walking the halls when we were in JR's office going over defensive alignments and what not.....good luck to that scrappy guy!
have a good day Tsaikos...
May 28th, 2008 at 10:14 am
koakane - Let's see...mediator...have a good ear and reasoning so that he/she can provide options based on misunderstandings and generic wording; provide alternatives; help focus on the facts and come up with a win-win situation...
May 28th, 2008 at 10:15 am
then if its da law then, according to instigator, JJ needs to pay back the monies. so what is the beef?
May 28th, 2008 at 10:15 am
homey: medium cause it wears large - difference between L and XL is about 3/4" for the sleve and 2 1/2" for length.

JJ says he has an email from HF saying that he doesn't have to pay anything if he leaves after 3 years. Unfortunately, it is not signed by both parties and made part of the contract.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:21 am
thanks homey
should give others a better understanding why UH might not be getting JJ to pay back monies
May 28th, 2008 at 10:28 am
A-House - is the difference between the M and the L the same as the L and the XL? Now I see why Kazz has a M.

homey:
Medium is about 1" smaller at the shoulders and 2" shorter than the Large.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:33 am
no koakane. the original contract is written in stone. after a period of time jones and HF have dialogue, stating and releasing jones earlier if he chooses to leave. Now to amend the wording in the original contract has to be written in stone, not conveyed verbally or through e-mails, and has to be signed by both parties. This evidently hasn't been done. So I would think oppositely and think that jones can't be released from his contract. And can't win the case.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Stephen:
I printed out the roster from the Green/Black game at the end of April. Could you please list the players who are not coming back here on a regular basis - maybe once a week so we can keep the list updated. Mahalo
Also, to repeat a post from earlier to which no one responded:
Are there going to be any T-Events other than pre-game potluck get-togethers before UH home football games this fall planned which do not involve spending a major chunk of change? Although the June 19 event will allow for folks to stop by for a few mintues to say hello to Ronnie & Rich without eating, the various Cattle Calls and most evening activities all seem to require spending a significant anount of money - $25 or more per person. For some folks - whether students or retired folks or others who in a financial bind - that is a lot of money to spend especially if they’re also trying to support UH sports.
Any word yet on when the wahine football seminar will be held?
For those of you who are interested in learning about mediation and arbitration services, you can contact the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution which is part of the Judiciary. Their number is 539-4237. The people there would love to have an opportunity to talk about their services.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:34 am

May 28th, 2008 at 10:40 am

May 28th, 2008 at 10:41 am
marlis, I would agree with you if a mediator was not involved and decision base on letter of law. But it seems to me this word "intent" is being inserted therefor expanding interpretation causing unclarity.
nuff for me will wait to see what happens
mahalo for everyone comments much appreciated

kapoleicoug makes great videos like that all the time. he's a great artist.

A-House/HIflyer,
Are the UH UA polos on base like the ones the players are wearing with BOTH the UH and the UA logos on the front or is like the ones I already have with just the UH "h" on the front?
May 28th, 2008 at 10:50 am
koakane - Both sides can agree to disagree. Then the mediator will terminate the hearing, conference, session, whatever they call it. Then the dispute can be taken to court or maybe arbitration.
If it is taken to court then IMO it is a lose lose situation since court costs will be incurred. Correct me if I'm wrong bhf2, WM, or Tom Mui.

koakane I see your point too. Even as writing, reading and discussing, my wife had called with negative results on asking her mother, who was a asst. attrny general on her opinions and insights on the jones case. But she was out.
sometimes what seems like an open and shut case is not such. From a personal experience this past year 3 neighbors had sued in small claims court a homeowner, whose roof blew off damaging cars on the street. One of the cars was mine, broken rear window, dented rood etc 1500 damage. The homeowner didn't dispute that his roof blew off damaging the cars. The judge, however rules against the 3 neighbors recovering damages from the homeowner, citing something about an act god blew the roof off during the storm. And the neighbor was released from paying any damages. That sucked. so the moral of what I write about the above story is that the law is intricate and to the average folks like me it is compelling and we learn things every day. maybe we'll likewise learn about the jones case.
May 28th, 2008 at 11:20 am
winds gonna blow, so i'm gonna go................oops, sorry Homey i'll be quiet...
howzit Koakane! karaoke is 'no mas' for me, i gots to shut up already. haaa btw - who's the "Instigator"?
May 28th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Midwestern State, Chapman, and Occidental — hey, I have friends attending all three schools. Two of them are really close — I miss them now.
I can't see a way that Jones gets his way on the contract issue. I'm not a lawyer, but it looks pretty tough for him from a legal viewpoint. But these kinds of agreements do happen at the professional level. Then again, this is a public university.
May 28th, 2008 at 11:24 am
marlis - interesting about the roof story.
Now we all know that HF is not God. He may think he is though...
But then again, many thought JJ was the second coming of Christ.
May 28th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Wow Jason, your friends must be really dedicated to be attending three schools at the same time!

The kapoleicoug video is great. Here's hoping the team can reach those heights this year.
May 28th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Hey XLiz! I wouldn't mind sharing the XL moniker with you. Just to get it straight, the XL is not for my shirt size.
Jason - No summer school?
jojo - When do you leave?
May 28th, 2008 at 11:55 am
homey - just ask Adam Leonard what size he wears
May 28th, 2008 at 11:56 am
hey jojo!

Hey Loa! Adam Leonard can wear any size he wants to!
Is there a good Chinese restaurant in Wahiawa? All these years I have never eaten at a Chinese restaurant in Wahiawa. Every time we pass by one it looks empty. Plus there were no cats around.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
No summer school.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
homey - ? neva tried em, only one i can think of is next to a bar on cal ave with different kind cats hanging out. isn't there one in the town center or did it close down?

homey, where am I going?
HEY LOA!
May 28th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
jojo - have a safe journey!
May 28th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
jason - any big plans this summer? is this your last summer before graduating?
May 28th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
I think the mediation process will be the last that we hear of this problem, I can't see it getting to arbitration. UH had to "go after" the money but I think that they will settle for around half, maybe even a little less. I wonder how long this mediation is going to take??
May 28th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
In Wahiawa, has anyone tried Pho King? I wanted to know if it's good.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
100! Jojo, is that a joke above? Try asking that question really fast.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
homey,
my friend's folks run Chung Shan Chop Suey in Wahiawa. i haven't had a chance to eat there yet, as he's currently working in LA.
its been there forever, so its gotta be good.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Loa: Yes, this should be my last summer before graduation. And I plan to attend a conference at the end of July/beginning of August.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
jojo - never heard of that restaurant, maybe the next town over.
and i'm glad you started your question with a preposition
May 28th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
DPK - I'm serious! It's by Foodland, or near Foodland, in that area. Jeje saw it and would have tried it, but he decided not to.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Jason - wow, congrats, will you be presenting a paper? make sure to wear your Warrior gear.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Loa: No, no, just going to expand my horizons. I get a travel grant with my scholarship, and since I'm going to graduate next spring, I might as well use it already.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Does anyone here use Costco's ValueWeb services for business website hosting and e-mail? Both have been running intermittently for the past 24 hours or so; the voicemail message says that they working diligently on correcting the problem. Until it gets resolved, e-mails cannot be sent or received. Grrrr!!
Fortunately, RoadRunner is still up so at least there's Internet access.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
DPK - try a yahoo image search, get one pitcha
May 28th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
DPK, that is what one would call, a fortunate coincidence.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
A House.
I have the same shirt - got it at Rainbow Boutique down at Ward Center but I wouldn't characterize it as a polo shirt. (Too light a fabric).
May 28th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Hmmm...
Pho King.
Well, if it makes it past the filters...
May 28th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Homey: I believe the contract calls for binding arbitration and so it won't end up in court.
The arbitrator's fees are paid by the parties involved as would be the mediation.
While arbitration is mandated by the contract, both parties can opt for mediation. However, if they can't agree, it will go to arbitration.

Re: Avon.
And guess who's Avon's celebrity spokeswoman?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Wena?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Koakane:
The mediation process is essentially having a referee where the two sides talk to one another. The resolution is not up to the mediator but between the parties to come to an agreement.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
As homey has pointed out b4, jojo has once again proven to be the Master at changing the subject
May 28th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
ST - would it be our favorite judge?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
howzit d1 - hey that tilt looks like good stuff
May 28th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
jojo - I tried it, that's how I got 7 kids.
Tom Mui - THANKS! Ahhh, binding arbitration, Lingles kiss of death.
ST - Paula Abdul?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
In regards to the "polo shirts", the photo shows the UH and UA labels on the shirt front. The shirts that A-House and I have have only the UH logo on the shirt front and the UA label on the left sleeve.
I would like to get the ones the players are wearing (in addition to the one I have).
May 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
d1shima - jojo is sooooo clever!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
hey, I did not start the conversation on places to eat in Wahiawa...
May 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Have a safe trip jojo!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Reese Witherspoon.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Thomas Mui,
I was thinking the same thing when ST announced that the Under Armour Polos would be on sale.
I thought it would be the same ones Coach Mack and the players were wearing with the two logos on the front.
Maybe gotta be with the school and the program to get one?
Well, I expect to see more merchandise released as soon as Nike's deathgrip is released on July 1st.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
jojo - Actually I tried it when it opened a couple of years ago. It wasn't that great. I rather have Cuu Long in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center. The place where the "hubby" supposedly goes to work out after hours.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Tom, are you still in New Jersey?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I would avoid "Pho-king" near the 7-11 on California Avenue in Wahiawa...
May 28th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Hubby and I tried Cuu Long. Didn't care for their pho because it did not have much veggies in it. Just meat and noodles.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
ST - I liked her in "Legally Blonde I & II".
May 28th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
gigi - ummmm...you put your own veggies in the Pho...
May 28th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Actually, the whole family (except me) works out at 24 Hr in Pearl Kai. Real cheap deal. Hubby pays $19 a month and daughters pay $20 a month.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Kazz - And you know this how?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Loa,
I think that next time I may go with a Blackberry based smartphone.
The thing I like about the Tilt is the QWERTY keyboard.
I am not thrilled with AT&T's internet speed though.
jojo,
Who's talking about fuud anymore?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Gigi, I go there too. Mostly after 10pm tho when it's not so crowded. However, I pay 40.00/month. At the time I didn't have 400.00-600.00 to drop all at once for a 3-year contract so I went with month to month.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
gigi - Your daughters got a good deal! Two for twenty! Your hubby must be able to lift like a UH football player by now. I know Mr. A-House and James can!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Sooo-
if it were to be determined that JJ owed $400K from his contract. To whom would t go? Na Koa or UH?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Homey,
I heard things..
May 28th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
t=it
May 28th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Kazz, that's a lot of money -- $40 a month. My family has a LIFETIME contract.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Repeating an announcement from late last night...
Who coordinated the food and collected the money for Blog Party 3 at Murphy’s?
Who manages and usually collects the payments/tips for most Cattle Calls?
So, who’s the most qualified to specify the menu items, modifications, and collect for the June 19 Cattle/Karaoke Call?
I am pleased and grateful to announce that Al will be the “Food Boss” and cashier for the June 19th Call. He will collect that night to cover the buffet meal costs, any additional goodies, tax, tip, and a modest $2 per person karaoke song charge. He will calculate costs and announce as we get closer. Beverages and cocktails will be on your own, as previously described.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Oh, and Kazz too!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Liz,
The $$$$ would go to UH. Where exactly and for what... who knows...
May 28th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Trouble with working out after 10 pm is they turn off the a/c. But you're right, not as crowded.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
XLiz - tit? Did jojo contaminate you too!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I think I fixed the picture-size problem. Did it work?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
XLH- not me, bra (bwahahaha!)
May 28th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
The pics are excellent!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Anyone know somebody at New City Nissan?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Tommui,
Alas, we mere Tsaikos must rely on the charity of the blog host for the occasional contest prize in order to get "official" gear.
(was that hint too subtle?)
May 28th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
ST- the pix look the same to me- on Firefox.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Whoa! They can make a lot of Caesars Salad with all those Koa bowls!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Gigi,
In the long run I could be saving 840.00 over a three year span, but right now 40.00 is not bothering me....
BUT this pho-king gas price non-sense could lead me to go with a contract-type membership soon.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
That's a huge pen on Erika's desk!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
wtf = what the pho-king?
aigoo
May 28th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Tom Mui:
guess they call it "polo shirt" because it has a collar.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Thank god, I buy gas just once a month. Don't drive that much.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
The basketball conference room needs a new showcase. The doubling up of the Koa bowls don't look too tidy.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Volleyball coach Tino Reyes had a similar pen. Somebody stole it.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
gigi - Wasn't it the other day you said you were too busy to read FT's writings because you were going all over the creation and babysitting? Do you catch the bus like Jason to get to places?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
It looks the same on Firefox. I downsized it for our Safari friends.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
I do drive to Mililani and the post office quite a bit. And the doctor and dentist. But I still need gas just once a month. Hubby says my Hyundai Accent gives good mileage.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
homey,
I tried looking, but it's hard for me to see inside their showroom right now; maybe after they move to Kalihi I can try again.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
ST, I use Adobe photoshop to size my pics. Is that what you use?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Some reader asked me why Princess Leila and the other cool Advertiser folks are not shooting videos, yet Wanda Adams shot one today.
My answer is "no comment."
May 28th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Is that a pen in your pocket are you very very happy to see me!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
ST -- there is no problem with the image size in Safari unless you double-click the picture to see the actual size. The image size on the blog conforms to the comment box width.
People seeing large images on this blog page might have their monitors set at lower resolutions (like 800x600) or are using dated web browsers.
What do you think, homey?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
ST - Like many here, we don't even view the vids on the 'Tizer, unless we positively know it is one of Leila's works. BTW, who is Wanda Adams?
May 28th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Stephen,
The pics are too big for my Tilt.
Not complaining, just reporting.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Wanda Adams is Book and Food Editor (but a union member and not management).
May 28th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Homey:
Apparently she's someone who doesn't like or respect her coworkers.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
ok, ST. 10-4
hmey- koa, is actually ceremonial (realizing you have the chopstix). Monkeypod is more suited for eating out of. Koa, for some reason, was not used for food.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
or maybe, as Editor, she doesn't need a payraise.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
ah, haha, ST added words to my post.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Sounds good to me SteveM. I also noticed that the player photos have no "width" parameters associated with them but the last 2 (Erica and CnfRm) have "width=500".
May 28th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Wanda Adams gave our cookbook a good review
But I get your point.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
XLiz - You mean they used monkeypod instead of Koa when they made poi?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
OOPS, you mean I'm not supposed to eat with the hashi's???
May 28th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Buder called. She threatened me, so I hate to take down the photo.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Buder looked great in that photo! Why is she so shy?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Howzit Tsaiko gangeh, just step foot back on the aina lil bit ago. Wow I taught the prices for gas was outrageous but it's actually cheaper then where I was in Sacramento $4.39 for regular gas.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
ST - What did she say? "See that pen on my desk? Guess where I'm gonna shove it if you don't take my picture off the blog!"
May 28th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Pauoa Boy . . .
Lucky! While you are there, please eat a couple of plate lunches for me! nothing too fattening, though.
Thanks!
May 28th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Pauoa Boy - Welcome back!
May 28th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Homey . . .
At least it would stop his left nostril from dripping hanabutta.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Too bad Camron leaving the team, but with the stable of backs and a one back system he would've had to been miraculous in the fall to get some PT. Good luck to him and the rest of the boys that unfortunately left the team. That's good news though as it seems the talent level of our beloved Warriors is getting to be nawts. Love to see that each position has stars in the making and some legit NFL prospects.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Hi, SteveM,
I've send a reply to your e-mail, thanks.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Oh no worries I already started, went pick up one plate lunch first thing off the plane. Thanks, good to be back on the island.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
wafan - He breathes through his butt?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Homey:
She said: Please...please...please.
Emotional threats are worse than physical ones.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Geez, the average price of a gallon of regular gas is at $4.03 in Washington. I do not feel so bad though, it is $10.03 in Norway! But only $0.17 in Venuzuela.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
They had a promo for the blog yesterday. It said something about how the host takes the temperature of UH fever.
I'm thinking: What kind of thermometer am I using?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I about to go pick up some new UH gear at the Rainbowtique down Ward and might swing by the campus store one. How much the shirts costing now?
ST - Any idea when the new style jerseys going be on sale? Hope before the season start.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
ST - Ahh I gotcha. I know what you mean. Aren't we suckers for giving in like that. My youngest daughter has me trained li' dat.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Homey . . .
He can only exhale through his butt. That might cause other people to stop breathing.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Eh so I heard the gathering is on Saturday at 10:00am Nancy's Kitchen, Waipio Gentry shopping center? Just like make sure I no end up at the wrong place.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Wow I went pass the Roosevelt High Field after picking up my plate lunch and that field is nawts. Might have to test out that field with a few laps while I'm here.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Okay. No one bend over when Mr. Tsai is around. He is charged with taking the temperature of Warrior fans. (shudder)
May 28th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Welcome home, Pauoa Boy!
May 28th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
HA! The lua in the International Space Station is not working. Must be difficult since they cannot just step outside to go shi-shi. Well, I guess can -- but I would not want to do it.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
wafan,
gas is $3.87 by my house, but I've seen it $3.97 on the other side of town.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
This is using XHTML img parameters to contrain the size of the photo on the blog page to 500 pixels wide. The actual image is 1,280 pixels wide.
It is being squeezed down to a certain size on the page for display purposes. Its actual pixels and file/download size is the same no matter how much you squeeze or expand it (but that's a different concern).
May 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Howzit d1shima, so I meeting up with some of you Tsaiko's dis Saturday I take it?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
dj . . .
The $4.03 is the state average. So, with B'ham at $4.09 there are bound to be lower prices -- somewhere. I go to Costco because they have the lowest prices in town. At some point it becomes counter-productive to drive to find the lowest priced gas.
Looks like we were getting the weather from your side of the hill for a bit. Okay, you may have your clouds back now.
Are you headed to the OSU game?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
That's nothing. The gas in my house is free. It doesn't power anything, but it has the power to get my daughter, my dog, and roaches a running. If ST tries to take my Warrior temperature, it might cause an explosion.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Pauoa Boy,
You got it right for Saturday.
Come hungry!
May 28th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Pauoa Boy . . .
Uhhh, "you Tsaiko's"? Do not want to pop your bubble; but, you are a Tsai-ko, too.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
It is too late to turn back.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
wafan,
I really want to go, but travel logistics seem to be the problem. If I can find 3 other guys who want to go and split the gas costs, it might be a go.
I got a lot of stuff going on in Sept., so it's a big maybe.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
You know it is bad when you cause your own tears to flow. But when your own dog leaves the room?!?!?! Geez.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
dj . . .
I know the feeling. But, this may be the only time I will have to see the Warriors play -- well, until they play at WSU. But even then it is a six hour drive to Spokane from here and will have to include a hotel, too.
May 28th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
SteveM,
Weren't you supposed to post something else?
(hint: Fuud on Saturday)
May 28th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Anyone get called by UH for NEW football season tickets yet?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
wafan,
As much as I want to go to the OSU game, I think the BSU game will be much easier for me to do. I can fly down there if I need to, and my friend who lives in Boise would pick me up and let me stay at her place.
Plus she is a big BSU fan and going to the game with her would be a blast. As far as the WSU game goes, I'm so there in 09. They should be playing in Moscow also, so that would make 2 games that were easy access for me. At least they play in Seattle in 2010 right?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
wafan,
I got an air mattress that you can sleep on!!
May 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Did I hear correctly that there may be a non-competitive Tsaiko paintball outing? If that's true then does anyone know where I can buy muumuu piercing paintballs?
May 28th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
homey,
so when does your daughter leave my neck of the woods to return home?
May 28th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I'm not ruining my precious muumuus for a paintball game!
May 28th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
djmitcho - June 12th!!! WOO HOO! But before she comes back she's gonna take in a Mariner's game. Ah, the life of a college student...
May 28th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Re: UH vs. Jones Mediation
A mediator is someone who aids or assists the parties as they attempt to resolve a dispute. Mediation does not work if one or both parties go in with hard and fast positions. The key to settlement is compromise.
Unlike an arbitrator or a judge, however, the mediator has no power to order or ajudicate anything, thus the parties must find a way to settle by mutual agreement. If the parties cannot agree, then then next step is a formal dispute resolution process such as trial or binding arbitration. The thing about trial or arbitration is that there will generally be a winner and a loser. In mediation, since both parties have to agree to a settlement, both parties are winners.
One of the ways an effective mediator can help parties to settle is by pointing out the potential flaws and difficulties in their respective arguments. People generally tend to focus on the "rightness" of their positions rather than on how difficult or even impossible it may be to convince a judge/arbitrator that they are right.
Another factor the mediator will hammer on is fees and costs. Although these will be minimized by going through arbitration rather than trial, they will still be significant. I would be curious to know if UH is being represented by State attorneys or if private attorneys have been retained as that will make a big difference regarding how much it will cost UH to play hardball.
There is no question, though, that Matsui will get this thing settled. I know him well and he is very effective. I cannot imagine any way this thing is not resolved. Both sides have too much to lose. Legally, UH's position looks VERY strong, but they don't want the negative publicity from litigating a claim against JJ. JJ has a truly weak legal position and doesn't want to garner (anymore) ill will from Hawaii fans.
Really, JJ should have negotiated a clause that SMU buys out his remaining contract. That would've been the OBVIOUS thing to do. But, judging from the Sugar Bowl, attention to detail wasn't his strong point at that time.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
djmitcho, for the BSU game, were you going to get tickets in the UH section? If we have enough people, maybe we can have a Tsaiko section in the UH section (we would be nice to your friend...)
May 28th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
gigi - Dime a dozen at Sears!
May 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Thank you very much WM.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Jeez, I am really wordy, aren't I?
May 28th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Ronnie,
I was gonna get tix where ever I could get them. BSU games always sellout.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
WM - you'd make a great wife. THAT'S JUST A JOKE MARRIED WORDY TSAIKO WOMEN!!!
May 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
RE: 2008 FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS UPDATE
I called the UH ticket office and they are still calling current season ticket holders to confirm/finalize their seating adjustments (i.e. moving seats, removing seats, or adding seats). I have still yet to be called regarding my additions to my current seats from last year.
The calls started last Thursday (05/22/2008). There are only 3-4 phone lines being used to call thousands of people.
From what I was told, they hope to take care of the current season ticket holders by the end of next week.
Once that is done, the new season ticket holders for 2008 will be contacted.
All contacts are being made in the order of who had tickets the longest and when the renewals/new deposits were placed.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
homey,
I'm actually gonna return home and then be back in WA before she even leaves. Unfortunately I'm coming home for my grandmother's funeral. I won't even be able to meet any Tsaiko's since I'll be on Lana'i the whole time I'm back.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Kazz - Okay, thanks. I'm gonna be patient on this matter.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
WM...wordy because you work in law....mwahahahahahaha
Just kidding....
May 28th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
homey...you planning on wearing muumuu again?? And I can only lift the smaller UH players....mwahahahahaha
May 28th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Homey, a "good wife"?
It was wordy, but it was logical and I didn't repeat myself over and over and over and....
THAT’S JUST ANOTHER JOKE MARRIED WORDY TSAIKO WOMEN!!!
May 28th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
djmitcho - Are you originally from Lanai? Please accept my condolences...
May 28th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
koakane™:,
I dunno if anybody wen give you da correct Agent 99, for da TV series it was Barbara Feldon, Anne Hathaway was in da movie.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
djmitcho - since I'm getting UH season tickets through Rob (adding on to hers), maybe we can get tickets from the UH block as season ticket holders. I'll let you know what I find out.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
I am not wordy.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
homey,
No, but that's where she lived most of her life. My dad lives there now, so that's where the services will be.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I stayed at the Manele Bay Hotel on Lanai. Very nice.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
James - Camo muumuu!
May 28th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
dj...condolences to you and your family....
gigi...not wordy??? hmmmm...
May 28th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
homey...now that's more like it...harder to see. The bright ones gigi gave you make you an easy target....mwhahahahaha
May 28th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
gigi - you are the latter.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
welcome back pauoa boy
May 28th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
dj . . .
My condolences to you and your family. Celebrate your grandma's life and accomplishments.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
James - should I go Army digital pattern or West Virginia Hillbilly Hunter forest pattern?
May 28th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
nope, taciturn people never repeat themselves...
May 28th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
dj . . .
How long has your Dad been on Lana'i? I used to fly over back in the mid to late 70's to help with the Lana'i bands. Gosh, I have not thought about that period in a loooooooong time! Those are some of the best people there.
Lana'i used to be one of my favorite islands -- until they started to build it up. Too bad.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I remember seeing acres of pineapple fields on Lanai. Quite beautiful.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
dj . . .
Thank you for the floor offer! I might take you up on that in '09!!!
We will have to see what really happens in '10 with the UW. If that really happens that will be an interesting game in a very beautiful stadium -- especially if the weather is nice.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
gigi - BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Let me see...52", a/c, cold need sweater, registrar, ppv, 1 beer, laundry...
BTW, haven't heard that word in a long time! Is that word in one of your books?
May 28th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
kazz,
thanks I knew you would get da word out. exactly why I neva call because only going be fustrated when no one answers phone. you da man.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
One time there was an accident the day we were leaving to go back to HNL. It was kind of funny. There were more than two cars on the island but they were few and far between. Yet, these two cars managed to find each other and have a collision. Luckily no one was injured. The accident happened at one of the intersections.
At the time there no traffic lights.
Do they have traffic lights now? Geez, that sounds like such a stupid question. Oh well. Inquiring minds want to know!
May 28th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
koakane - Wea u plan fo' sit at da shtayjium?
May 28th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
homey,
do this....go to the online site for both windward and new city nissan. not the same owner.
check their specials and ask for an online quote for the car you want.
then, go online to costco.com and ask for a quote. someone from new city will respond.
then when you get all the quotes, costco.com supposed to be the lowest, it is a deal with the dealership. anyway, go down with quote in hip pocket and try bargaining with the online sales mgr. it should be interesting i got my leased murano at 500 above cost.

May 28th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Koakane,
Even though my 5 seats from last year are already taken care of, it's the 5 other new ones we're adding on I am worried about.
I hope they can accomodate that much without shifting us around.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
al - The problem is they take so long to respond and give me a quote. I even told them what I wanted and let me know if they have it in stock or not. The thing is I looked at their inventory online and assumed it is up to date. Therefore, I based what I wanted to what was listed in their inventory. Do these guys want business? Slow mail? Maybe it's because I told them I know the Dealer invoice price and to also price it without adding in the cash back/incentives. I also told them just give me your best quote and if it is within my budget I will come down and sign the papers immediately. I'm not about to sit at the dealership for hours going over price adjustments and waiting to talk to a third and fourth person.
Did I just do a WM?
May 28th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
wafan,
He was born and raised there, but in the 70's he was on Oahu, he moved back around '89. I spent my summers on Lana'i until I was about 13. I remember what it was like back then, all pineapple fields. Now there are none. Talk about being able to get some fresh fruit..it was the best.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Homey . . .
Nah. Really. Lana'i was a cool island a long time ago. No traffic. No crowds. Very supportive community. One of my best friends is from Lana'i -- the Ballesteros family.
It was the first place I ever had gizzard. I do not enjoy it at all. But, i had to try it. They laughed so hard one of the company supervisors started choking on his piece. Dang. I had to laugh -- they were having such a good time at my expense. Oh well.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pm

LOL at the first pic of the guys getting some shade....
Well Alexander looks like he's waiting to pummel someone and Rausch looks like he's taking a break from working at Abercrombie and Fitch.
.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
ST ~ Those guys look so glum! Are they looking at our facilities and thinking to themselves..."Dang!...Colt was right, this really is a HS/PE field!
May 28th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
...besides the Nancy's Breakfast Call? That was up this morning. Give me more hints... the dinner fuud, evening fuud, or midnight snack fuud? Hey, you not having a lunch or "tea" fuud call without telling me...?
May 28th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Alexander is a huge dude. It didn't help that he walked with Mike Washington.
Rausch has an extremely quick release. He throws over the top. He's going to be a good one.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Kazz:
Does Kortney look glum?
May 28th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Just got a call from Pauoa Boy. He is lookng forward to meeting with the Tsaiko Ohana this Saturday morning. Like he mentioned earlier, he is just enjoying his 1st day back on island shopping for UH gear and satisfying the cravings for home style grindz.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Where is Waipio Gentry Shopping Center - the shopping center mauka of H-1 above Waipahu or the area where Costco is located just off H-2 or the shopping center alongside Kamehameha Highway as it heads towards Mililani Town?
We've got a meeting in Mililani which starts at 11 am so maybe we'll stop by for a few minutes to say hello; however, we won't be eating although we might get some coffee to go.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
ok- is it me or is Greg Alexander just about the scariest QB there is? Yikes! The opposing D-lines better be ready!
And I thot Inoke was pretty tough-looking.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
ST ~ Kortney?...nah...she's a newlywed, the 'glow' goin' be on her face for couple moa years!...It's the QB crowd I was talkin' bout!
May 28th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
ST,
Who's Kortney?
May 28th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
OOOPS.
I didn't catch it at first, you meant Kortney in the above photos.
Nope, she doesn't look glum at all.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
homey- 265- exactly. I'm lining up to get another Prius - and will let the kids drive my old one. It teaches them to drive for good mileage - and gets good mileage. My car is averaging around 54 mpg with the A/C on most of the time
May 28th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
ST,
Was Tyler Graunke out there with the other QBs today?
May 28th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
W/Doc ~ Option #3. The center across from CORPS.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
If Tyler was out today, his would be more Yikes!...and then turn to glum...
May 28th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
I saw film on Rausch, and I really like him. He's gotta pick up the system like any QB, but I think he can be a really good one.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Competition. It's all about the battle for the prized QB start. It re-kindles the inner fire and will burn brighter the closer we get to Swamp Fever week.
May 28th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Where's Tyler? Schlacking already?
May 28th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

The Matsunaga's! We used to stay at their home when on Lana'i. Wonderful people.
And Grandpa Goro Hokama and his family. Super people.
May 28th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Stephen,
Is there any restriction on how much time the players can spend in the football offices watching film over the summer?
May 28th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
wafan- my buddy is a Mitsunaga, not Matsunaga... her dad moved to the mainland, I think. She has been on Kauai almost 40 years and lives near me in Waimea.
May 28th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
I'm starting to like the pics more than the blurbs. Great job!

aloha all- well, whatever I missed on last night's blog in real time was more than made up for in laughing today- to the point of tears...kekoa, you are so funny...wafan, appreciate the note of lower case usage and you made me laugh over and over again...homey, you are classic!... d1...omg! I always say, get it, got it, good!...used to train my students to respond and they loved it, too....at least I knew they were still with me.
mahalo nui to Mike Wedge for the video and for ST for re-posting- made me wince, made me smile, made me cry!
as for outsourcing (jm2375 #253 yesterday)...does anyone know that HAL outsourced reservations to the Phillippines? I just found out...Also, when you want to complain about reservations, you do so to customer service...which...you guessed it...is also outsourced to the Phillippines! Of all businesses in Hawai'i, you would really expect HAL to BE in Hawai'i! I think I'm gonna write a letter to my local Legislators along with HAL to express my disappointment....and the fact that I think they are being pretty puka panty!
finally, what's up with vids from Princess Leila ? and, already asked, but no one answered...how come Fouts and Kato are no longer with wahine soccer team?
GO WARRIORS!
May 28th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
In case my A-house Ohana didn't get the word about Nancy's, fire your email man!
Also, side-line warning to the wize and one word to the starting *twins* ~ DARTS. (Just a gentle reminder for those who are so inclined that Nancy's got 'em).
May 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Jason- so, are you still planning on teaching Math in HS? Have you done your student teaching and where do you hope to be placed? Much good luck to you, but must say I wish you were going into elem ed- we so need males at that level as so many kids don't have fathers at home.
May 28th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
LizK- sent you a couple of emails- did you get 'em? Re: our show! Kaua'i Kalls? nah....Kaua'i Kilohana? maybe....Wahine Wala'au? nah...too close to an existing show...and I think correct way would be Wala'au Wahine anyway (Kekoa?)ok...waiting for your creativity to kick in...
May 28th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
LizK . . .
That is what I typed -- Mitsunaga. Okay, I think I did. Well, obviously I did not.
But, that is what I meant! How come you did not know that?
Anyhow, Mr. Mitsunaga (I am guessing there is only one Mitsunaga family on Lana'i) was one of the sup's or something like that. One concert we helped with we needed something or other for the performance. I mentioned it to the Lana'i director (Mr. Inaba) who contacted Mr. Mitsunaga who showed up with the item. When I asked about it he said not to worry, the company would not mind since he authorized it.
I do not know the kids if that is the same family. We were on campus from around 5:30 in the morning for private lessons until well past 9 in the evening for school classes, sectionals, semi-private and private lessons, and full band rehearsals.
Those kids on Lana'i were some awesome kids. I sure hope they are the same down-to-earth, honest, hardworking people!
May 28th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
"If Colt were that big......" Kiper would fall in love with him... and maybe Joe "Division 1AA with the cannon for an arm but no scope in which to aim" Flacco would be on the outside looking in...
Eh whatever... lets check back in a few when Colt is starting and Flacco and Dixon are playing in Canada or Japan, if they're lucky.
May 28th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Nice photos of the Advertiser folks too. I wonder how long it will be before all the Advertiser folks who are not shy will have their photos posted...I'm guessing the others will run the other way when they see your camera!

May 28th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Alexander looks like a d end. It will be fun to see him in the pocket, fighting tacklers. Inoke's doing the leadership thing and that's good to see.
May 28th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Well Liz.
That 1420 mag gets, ah, pretty, ahem, interesting in the middle
May 28th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Hi DPK!
Rausch reminds me of Colt in da bod. I remember looking at the vids a few mos ago... he get da guns fo sure!
Alexander looks like- "you wanna piece o' dis?" Woo hoo!
Warriors are lookin good - past, present and future!
May 28th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Alexander is listed by most publications/sites at 6'5". I wonder if the "2 inch rule" applies to him. CB, IIRC, was listed at 6'3", but was closer to 6'2" so it was more like a 1 inch rule.
May 28th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
d1- thought you'd like that centerfold
Where's Jason?
May 28th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
ok- 1 battry green, time to go.
laterz guys!
May 28th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Would be great to see a QB decide to run with it and stiff arm a linebacker on the way for a 1st down.
By the look of things Alexander could bring a BIG backfield presence to our offensive game.
May 28th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Interesting note about Alexander is that he got sacked a LOT at Santa Rosa.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Wafan the Mitsunaga's you mentioned are the same family LizKauai knows...there were two Mitsunaga's on the Island
May 28th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

May 28th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
wafan- I'M not gonna wear puka panty- I said I thought HAL was being pretty puka panty in outsourcing- my mom told me about not wearing puka panty in case I get into an accident and I dutifully taught that to my kids, too.
sheesh...started a firestorm or wat? am hopeful you get to go to the game!
May 28th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
JJ moved the R and S forward by very strictly maintaining a shotgun formation. The traditional R and S utilized under center snaps and rollouts. That suceeded to a large extent until teams began to utilize very athletic DEnds and zone blitzes. The question becomes whether Coach Lee's version of the R and S looks more like JJ's or the more traditional R and S refined out of necessity in the pros (and then at UH) by JJ.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Sorry about the quality of the photos.
Old camera, old camera man.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Good Evening Tsaikos!!
Nice pics of the new guys. Good to see that they are able to get out on the field and learn the new system.
Are they out there at a certain time daily??
May 28th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
S: Because of the nature of your job, you might have to advance to a more sophisticated camera. I'm sure Barry M. could steer you to the right camera.
May 28th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Tsai,
Throw yer weight around demand a new camera. You're DA MAN, now act like it!
May 28th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
ST is doing very well with his "old" camera. Give him a new 7 or 8 megapixel camera at it's default settings and the pix and the blog is going to take minutes to load--even on a good blueblog day.
You are doing great, ST. Now, just stir in a little Photoshop...
May 28th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
ST:
Much arigatos for "downsizing" your photos which are absolutely fabulous and now come in "full view" on our monitor screen!!!!
You will, in the near future, amend your job description to add photogtapher extrodinaire!
May 28th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
You know, you guys throw around words like megapix and width, and I just go: huh?
Hey, I just graduated from disposable cameras (and, by the way, I need to start developing the pix from the Heisman trip).
May 28th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
It looks like the SEC is pushing its weight around again. The second recruiting period will hurt Hawai‘i, which is stuck out here.

May 28th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
ST:
With the demise of Aloha and ATA and ever rising jet fuel prices, do you have any more info on the Hawaiian Air offer of "free" trips for UH recruiting?
Is the offer with or without constraints? ie, only 5 per month; offer good only for 1 year?; etc.
While a good promotional scheme and tax write off, Hawaiian Air seems to have forgotten the "aloha" spirit with the way they have increased inter-island and mainland fares.
We have decided to reduce, drastically, trips to Las Vegas due to the cost factor.
May 28th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I think the H logo should be used with A-House.
May 28th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Thanks, ST - I will take that as a supreme compliment!
May 28th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Hi guys,
Just catching up - couldn't get anywhere near the internet today.
dj - condolences on your loss.
D1 - I'm thinking about getting the Tilt - let me know how you like it. Heard the battery life was really short. Looking for a smartphone, don't wanna carry around both a phone and PDA anymore. Can't change till mid-July - can't wait. I got dead spots in my house (mountains) and office (too much concrete and no windows).
ST - the pix look great on my IE 6 (still trying to get used to IE 7)
How's dis for futility - doing work on the laptop this am and battery dies w/o warning. Lost 2+ hours of work. Took 3 hrs to get back to where I was. Grrrrrrr....
May 28th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
djmitcho: My condolences and prayers to you and your family.
I Believe: Elementary ed? No way! I can barely survive watching my two younger nieces (soon to be 8 and 2) for one day of babysitting. No, high school is where it's at for me. I don't have anywhere near enough knowledge in all the other subjects to teach elem ed. My friend who is going to Midwestern State is studying elem ed, although she's going to go into high school English when she gets a chance.
And I haven't done any student teaching yet — I'm getting my B.S. in math, not my B.Ed. After I grad next year, I'll go for my M.Ed., do my student teaching and all that.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Eh, where everybody stay? 2 posts in 1/2 hr?

djmitcho,
My condolences to your family.

One of the WRs that was competing for a roster spot with Bess was waived today. The NFL has no mercy--he got cut after he got injured.

jm2375,
see 135.
I have not really spent all that much time exploring all that can be done with my Tilt because been so busy.
I like the e-mail also.
Shortly after I got mine I went to the AT&T store for help with getting setup. The woman who was helping me admitted that she was using a Tilt and liked it but that she was switching to an iPhone because it's faster.
The speed seems to be the biggest difference I've noticed. Example: at the Warrior Bowl I posted a few comments b4 the game but yielded to Liz on her Blackberry device for the play-by-play because there was no way I could keep up w/ my Tilt.
That said, perhaps for different applications, the Tilt may work better. A vendor I work with uses it for all her delivery people to do their invoicing in the field.
So that's my long-winded, WarriorMojo-esque eval of the Tilt. Hope it helps.
GO WARRIORS!

Well, my Celtics won today. The announcer said that usually if a team wins game 5, they will go on to win the series.
But, hubby says San Antonio lost game 5 but won the series against NO, so his Pistons could very well win too.
Of the 2 teams, I prefer the Celtics to the Pistons, though. Loved what they managed to do today.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
And who would've thought that Avery Johnson would bounce back from being fired to being a commentator on Sports Central! Wow! He said the Celtics game was "phenomenal." Really likes Kevin Garnett, because he is a great defensive player. blah blah
May 28th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Hate to say it though, if Celtics play against the Lakers in the finals, I think they will be sorely outmatched.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
"Sports Central"? You mean SportsCenter?
And a lot of coaches/players do that, in particular for basketball. If they aren't with a team, or if their season is done, then ESPN picks them up as an analyst.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Thanks for the correction. Yeah, it's SportsCenter!
Avery Johnson's voice is not very mellifluous, though. Hard to take him seriously with a high pitched voice like his.

Sportsbow on SportsHawaii noted today that Chauncey Makainai (6'4", 315 pounds, OT) from Kailua High School was offered a scholarship by UH.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Here is Chauncey's profile on scout.com. Nice to see that UH is the *first* school to offer a player this time. He's listed as a RG, not tackle, on his profile so I messed that up on my 380 post.

gigi: There aren't enough great basketball minds where you can be choosy like that. You might get a guy who is well-spoken, but he probably won't know his basketball like Avery Johnson.

Been doing a little research about download speeds, especially after looking at the wireless modem I think the HA writers might be using on their laptops. I have not researched them all nor personally used most so can only speak in generalities for comparison purposes.
Download speeds are important because that is a major factor in how fast your computer and web browser can assemble and present you with the web or blog page you see on your computer. There are debates and comparisons between which browsers are faster--but we are usually comparing seconds there. Download speed is how fast the data is being transmitted and received your computer or device (assuming the server is serving efficiently) and can make a difference of tens of seconds or minutes.
The following are "manufacturer /"realistic" versus theoretical...
Advantage of the Treo, iPhone, tilt(?), wireless USB modem is that it can connect anywhere there is a signal. Disadvantage is very low "modem" speeds.
Road Runner & DSL are the basic options to a wireless modem. WiFi base stations usually connect via RR or DSL.
Laptops with built-in or external wireless 802.11 devices have the top speeds RR & DSL can deliver-- performance falls off as distance and obstructions increase. Devices like the iTouch and Liz's asuus (?) utilize wifi.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - end of quick ramble
Maybe Tsai-ko's using telephone service providers (wireless modem types) should share their realistic download speed data if they have it, for brand/service comparison purposes?
May 28th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
SteveM, that was all Greek to me!

Wie shoots 4-under 68 at German Open
MUNICH, Germany (AP) — Michelle Wie shot a 4-under 68 at the Ladies German Open with about half the field in the clubhouse, trailing leader Nina Reis of Sweden by four strokes.
The 18-year-old American birdied three of the first five holes in the opening round and made par the rest of the way at the Golfpark Gut Haeusern, north of Munich.
"I felt I was a little bit rusty. But I am happy with how I played today," said Wie, who is hoping to gain some confidence after playing only two tournaments in the United States this year.
"I feel I can do a lot. I left a lot out there on the par fives."
It's Wie's first appearance in a full Ladies European Tour field after receiving a sponsor's invitation to play in the event.
May 29th, 2008 at 7:43 am
Marlis,
I've checked the german open site and there she's at 69, 3 under. She birdied 3 of her first 4 holes and then parred the rest of the way, according to sky sports.
May 29th, 2008 at 7:46 am
Marlis,
P.S. your above post comes out to 69 also.
May 29th, 2008 at 7:51 am
d1...I don't know if Stretch was talking about the "week" being short....mwahahahahahhaaha
May 29th, 2008 at 7:54 am
Good morning Tsaikos....
ST, you're right (as usual) I would've also thought Greg Alexander was a DE. Of course, in my days of playing the game, I was practically the biggest guy on my team and having a 300 pounder in the NFL, let alone the NCAA, was almost unheard of.
Good to see the guys are working out on their own though.
May 29th, 2008 at 8:02 am

I don't know what to say, but here's the source where I got my info

Marlis,
I've seen both reports also. One of them must be in error. Both say that she had 3 birdies in the first five holes, parring the rest. So, I assume 69 should be correct and AP posted the wrong score. Not that important anyway. It should be clear by tomorrow.
May 29th, 2008 at 8:14 am
Marlis,
P.S. either way it's a good start for her.
