And justice for all ...
By Stephen Tsai
Now that Herman Frazier has returned to his hometown as Temple's associate AD, the key figures in January's drama have all found perfect fits.
Jim Donovan was the right choice to succeed Frazier as UH's AD. June Jones and Greg McMackin get to run football programs. And Frazier gets to start over — with the help of his $300,000-plus UH buyout — in a city that he not only knows well but regards him as a hero.
* * *
It's human nature to seek the silver lining in cloudy circumstances. UH fans have been looking for some hope — any hope — in the news that Blaze Soares and Rocky Savaiigaea will miss several weeks because of injuries.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Things happen for a reason.
A medical hardship will make them fresher for next year.
Setbacks lead to comebacks.
But sometimes dark clouds mean bad weather. That's it. Dress it up anyway, the Warriors need both players. Soares is football's eqiuvalent of the brushback pitch. Opponents are more cautious when Soares is on the field. And Savaiigaea brings that enthusiasm that lifts defenses.
Maybe Savaiigaea said it best: "It sucks."
Here's Rocky with his left arm in a cast (beneath the white shirt):
Here are the parents of running back Joey Cadiz:
Here are the receivers in their post-practice stretching routine:
* * *
Happy birthday to Kelli Miura and Erika Buder-Nakasone. Kelli will be making her public singing debut Saturday at our karaoke party. Buder-Nakasone is forever our favorite for her dancing rendition of Crazy Legs' "Happy And You Know It" routine at UH basketball games.

I guess we will be seeing Temple in a BCS game soon??
August 13th, 2008 at 8:01 am
What will happen first: Temple in a BCS game or me showing up on time for a UH practice?
August 13th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Good thing a new post is up.
That Commanche subject prior could of evolved in many delete posts. hah
August 13th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Ahh... probably Temple.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Temple.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Another "silver lining" for these two guys is that it isn't their Sr year. It would be crap if their was their last year of eligibility.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Wow, both Temple and SMU as future UH opponents? Would be exciting!
August 13th, 2008 at 8:04 am
News Flash -
Temple will be changing their schedule to accomodate Two AA games per season, just so they can try and go bowling. What a novel idea. Wonder who thought of that one.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:05 am
I agree with expat and bhf2, TEMPLE.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:05 am
Justice for all? More like HFgot away. Justice would be him behind bars, but I've always been extreme.
Rocky is right...'it sucks.'
Have a great day all.

Good Morning Tsaiko Village.
HF in Philly. If he screws up there, you know he won't get away from those fans. Wait, does Temple have any fans besides Bill Cosby?

Good morning Tsaikos....and Tsaikettes...
We'ver actually played Temple before....when I was a wee one....MWAHAHAHAAHA and no DPK, not that kind of wee....
August 13th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Temple's football had been on a steep decline for the last 20 years since the Hardin (?) days... maybe this is the final blow.
However, it does confirm the Peter principal ...

I'm calling it the "Frasier Principle" from now on.
Can anyone name a single good thing he's done for Warrior Football?

Sorry, I didn't want to get into a bash HF mood.
As my friend "Haka" says-let it go, he's gone already. Time to move on.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:26 am
The Maui News had a mention of Mana Rosa and his UH offer.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Part of the reason Colt struggled in his last preseason game is that he's injured.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:29 am
I'll be at the Oregon State game to watch this writer being proved wrong.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Good Morning everyone!
I will play the frequency odds and put my money on ST-- after all, there are more practices than football miracles so it could happen.
Yeah, it sucks about about Blaze and Rocky on the sidelines.
expat -- do you still reside in Portland, Oregon? If so, please note the Tsai-kos heading your way in September...

ESPN The Magazine has an article on the student sections at college football games.
Florida was said to have the loudest student section.
Funny how the student section demoralized a team from their SEC rival Tennessee.
Florida was also selected as having the 2nd nastiest student section.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Per Fanball.com
"The News
It appears undrafted rookie receiver Davone Bess has taken over as the Dolphins primary slot reciever, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Our View
Bess seems to have earned a roster spot at a thin position in Miami."
August 13th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Yay, Davone!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 8:45 am
I wonder if Temple will have a hard time securing opponents. It always seems they are the sacrificial lamb.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:54 am
DPK,
only kidding about your horsie ok? no get nutz on me today...just trying to add something to the banter here.
rocky and blaze, that sucks, i agree. interesting Falemalu is stepping up already! i think i was one of the first to suggest that Paipai would see considerable time this season on the field, he has all the tools, the attitude, the desire. the only thing keeping him off of the field is the knowledge of his assignments...as detailed in the article.
good luck in rehab to both rocky and blaze. rocky is a hard luck story, trains hard in the off season, works with HS football players, gives back to the community and now this.
blaze, off season training should not include the chinese dish of
beefing and clubbing', but either way, getting injured is no fun for anyone. a speedy recovery to both.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Justice? Haha! What did Temple do to deserve this?
August 13th, 2008 at 9:08 am
I'll say it again. . . .
go Greg Alexander!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 9:18 am
How desperate must things be at Temple or the school to hire Herpes?
Temple .....If you think it's bad now, just wait.....
On a positive note, UH definitely needs to recruit all HI Islands and make all the boys feel welcome.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Oops -- I'll try again. Sorry Herman. My post should have read:
How desperate must things be at Temple for the school to hire Herman?
Temple …..If you think it’s bad now, just wait…..
On a positive note, UH definitely needs to recruit all HI Islands and make all the boys feel welcome.

Only 3 days until...
THE BIG KARAOKE CALL
Saturday – August 16, 2008
Krazy Karaoke 8:00 PM – 12:00 midnight (minimum)
The large room at the Young Street Krazy Karaoke holds at least 55 persons. STRETCH has made the reservation and put down the deposits.
Same arrangement as last April 19's Krazy Karaoke Call...
• bring your own drinks (this room has a lot more cooler space)
• bring snacks and pupu's (optional)
• $15 per person to cover room rental/karaoke
• pay Stretch or designee at the door that night
Current RSVP Count = 50
RSVP on blog or email SteveM -- stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Updates will be posted in the Events Calendar section
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I will be listing the meal/pupu/goody potluck items that attendees might voluntarily bring to the Karaoke Call so everyone can see the overall "menu". Not everyone should bring food, otherwise we will have too much--so don't feel you must bring something.
Please email me with your tentative food item or speciality dish (hint, hint). I will list it in the Events calendar section above.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Misc. Notes for the Saturday Karaoke Call
• Parking should not be a problem with the large parking lots.
• Any carpooling and Designated Driver arrangement are probably already made, but it you are looking for a DD, please post request on blog.
•The large (green) room has a lot of space but ice chest "pooling" recommended.
• We may enter the room at around 7:45 PM
• Mrs. Bulla and d1shima will be entering songs into the system per my request (like the April 19 KK call). We will have colored paper slips for writing song requests. Turn in song requests to Mrs. Bulla or d1shima.
• Mrs. Bulla and the Jager Bombers will set in the front half of room for song input --also the Bomber table. All Tsai-kettes invited to stop by
• Bulla is setting up and tending a speciality drinks bar with assistance from Rob25 and homey and has requested a back corner.
• WreckinEyez is rumored to have something interesting to set up in the other back corner...
• Attempts to gather a food list has largely failed so far, but please, only 1 bunch of watercress (don't over-feed Bulla). Go ahead and bring your food/pupus...we'll probably go to 1:00 AM and need the midnight fuud.
• Standby for a possible semi-organized singing program at around 10:30 PM. Maybe. Solos, duets, small group, etc. -- maybe. Did I say "maybe"?
August 13th, 2008 at 9:44 am

Steve M.
I am bringing ingredients for Midori Margaritas only...anything else, if they bring it, i'll swing it...... the M/M concoction is going to Rob25, because she's nice....i think the Bombers will be entrenched in bombadier assgnments, looking for a target rich environment so to speak. of course, i'll handle the back of the room, usually always in the back because i can seeeeeeeeeeeeee everything and everyone. haha

Too funny, never thought of that!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Auwe! I truly hope Blaze & Rocky will only miss 2-3 games; anymore than that would really suck!! Congrats to Davone Bess! I hope we don't lose any more personnel as it's just too close to the game. Here's hoping Coach Mac & the boys can pull this year's shocker!

OK Bulla, corrected to read:
• Bulla is setting up and tending a Midori Margarita bar with assistance from Rob25 and homey and has requested a back corner.
Hmmm, maybe gotta edit more. homey is a bonafide Bomber too. This could be hazardous.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Interesting to read what Ohio State used as a recruiting pitch for QB Sanchez.

SteveM
I am still in Portland... Actually 2 weeks ago we moved a few miles south to Lake Oswego.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Morning/afternoon, Tsai-Meister and blog-gang.
There's is only one way I can artistically express my dismay about Blaze's and Rocky's situation:
IT FRICKIN' SUCKS!!!!
There, I feel a liitle better now, not by much, though.
Blaze was the guy I really wanted to see in Florida, but I have a good feeling that the team will rally, just like Warriors.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:23 am
I'm predicting Mark Alexander makes it as our quarterback. After the Florida game, Mark is our hero! Tebow who? Colt?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:26 am
Alexander has the height, but does he know the playbook as well as Inoke?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:26 am
He turned down a big paycheck from Georgia to play there between Florida and Oregon St. (according to HF anyway...)
August 13th, 2008 at 10:30 am
"It sucks" that Blaze Soares and Rocky Savaiigaea will miss several weeks because of injuries. However, this is an important issue that separates the best from the rest. At Florida, when a star is injured there are others on the bench to fill in. For Hawaii to stay on top, they need deep bench play.
I have no knowledge of how much Tebow will play, but look out for a young backup by the name of Brantely. Brantely comes from football pedigree and is suppose to be great.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:31 am
TO BLAZE AND ROCKY,
May the wind be always at your back and the sun upon your face. The hopes and prayers of the Warrior nation and the strength of your will shall take you aloft to dance with the stars.
In short, WE BELIEVE YOU WILL BOTH HAVE YOUR REDEMPTION DAYS!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Re: I’m predicting Mark Alexander makes it as our quarterback. After the Florida game, Mark is our hero! Tebow who? Colt?
Mark who?
JK DtyHawaii. It's Greg, but maybe his middle name is Mark. We might be calling him Mr. Alexander if all goes well.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:33 am
DTY,
Bruddah or sistah, it's Greg.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:34 am
Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
Hey Bulla - I already bought some Midori liqueur...not sure how much we will need. Can't wait to try your MMs but I will also have rum so we can make Midori daiquiri also. I game for both.
Homey - Don't forget the mint leaves...I think that I have everything else.
Who's Mark Alexander? You mean Greg...right?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:35 am
re fh my only comment is he outta hea
August 13th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Hi Ronnie!
Call ST and ask him where the team will be staying while they are in Fresno. That way we can book a room. I haven't talked to him at practice becasue he's been on the other side of the field.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Gigi,
I sure hope he does. Would like to see him kick Florida's arse and show what the other colleges missed out on for not picking him up. I'll be lurking to see.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Justice for all? On the part of JD and Hawaii, perhaps so. On the other hand, let's just hope that the "Temple" isn't defiled by their new associate AD. HF is a Philly guy, and I hope the familiarity of the place breeds success for him. Like many other posters said above, let jes move on. We got a passel o' snappin' Gators to deal with in da Swamp, and just a short time to be ready.
GO WARRIORS!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Wow Koakane is on the blog!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:39 am
I Will be using the other corner to kick our Karaoke Call up a notch...
10:30 show... sounds good...
August 13th, 2008 at 10:40 am
That reminds me...
Should I show up an hour early (7:30am) this Saturday morning JUST IN CASE again?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Homey to get the mint leaves...? Leave it to the Filipino to bring the fresh produce.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Hi Ronnie,
Have you gotten my emails?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:42 am
"And justice for all..."
Wow, would've never pegged ST for a Metallica fan.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Greg, Mark, Kaipo, whateveas
Just like Mav said, should he be "da man" and lead us to a WAC title in 08 and a bowl game with a victory I'll personally call him "Horatio Huffnagle-Ishii Jr. III" if I have to.
CHEEEHOOOO!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:45 am
It's a sad thing about Rocky and Blaze for sure. I say, if they miss more than five games or so, and their running mates at LB and DL are playing well, then maybe the medical hardship option should be considered. The bottom line is, adversity makes good teams better. The Warriors can overcome the loss of these two key players, because they ARE a good team, and they are only going to get better. IMHO.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Just a note...Kazz'z favorite broadcaster was in usual form today. I tuned in and he is talking to some guy saying that he doesn't think Colt will ever be a starting QB in the NFL.
Can this guy ever find something positive to say about UH or its athletes?
I was so disgusted that I had to tune to BC...who I'm not a big fan of either.
They are the reason that I gravitated towards this blog. There is a wealth of information here. People are more positive...not delusional...OK some might be...but generally realistic. I like to hear both sides of the argument and also the tidbits of information that people have found. Thanks to everyone for their contributions that make this blog great!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Hey, Joel,
What do you think of parking at the park and ride lot on SW 34th Street and catching the Gator shutttle to the game? My hotel is somewhere near there so I'm thinking this is what I'm gonna do instead of trying to find parking closer to the stadium. I guess I could even walk to the stadium on gameday except for #1 the heat and #2 having to walk past frat house row. Thanks for your help.

August 13th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Hi djmitcho!
Yes, I've gotten your emails. I'm guessing this means you didn't get my response.
Anyway, I'm going to order the tickets. I'm just waiting to see if anyone else wants to join us so we can get seats together. I will let you know as soon as I order them.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Oh I forgot...thanks for reminding me Kazz...I have faith in ST. He'll make it to practice on time...at least he beats me.
My prayers are with you Rainbow Cliff...remember that you are never alone in this.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:51 am
In that case, this parody is for Temple fans, boosters, and alumni:
EXIT LIGHT!!! ENTER NIGHT!!! TAKE HIS HAND!!! YOU'RE OFF TO PROCRASTINATION-LAND!!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:55 am
LOL at Kazz.
So, is UA changing our helmet design too? I notice that Rinbowtique doesn't have the full size or mini helmets for sale anymore.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:55 am
LMAO@Weird "Kazz" Yankovitch.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Rob25,
Hahahahahaha!!! I have the radio in my living room set to 1500am automatically and of course I have to change it to KKEA on Wednesdays but today was a "pass" as Jim Donovan was on answering calls.
But yeah usually I have to pick the lesser of two evils and with Fall Practice in full swing at least there is more UH football talk. Last season some people thought BC was WAY too much of a "homer" for UH (even though he thought we'd never go 12-0), but compared to "da kine" that's WAY more "positive" than the drivel on 1500AM on Wednesdays.
BTW, I am becoming MORE and MORE of a fan of Rob and Russ and I think they have taken the lead over L&L... (sad to say).
August 13th, 2008 at 10:58 am
maybe if blaze would lay off the steroids he would be getting injured so much....
August 13th, 2008 at 10:59 am

Why does "the truth" have to hide behind a false name?
August 13th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Why don't you say that to his face?
August 13th, 2008 at 11:06 am
re: UA Merchandise
I'm hoping they sell the shirts that some of the coaches wear that say "Warriors Football" with the UA logo. Man, those are sharp.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:09 am
the truth,
another wild generalization, it is what it is.
i only referenced the new chinese dish called beefing and clubbing, served on friday and saturday nights in waikiki, becasue i know that first hand.....pretty frustrating to see UH athletes acting like that, but it's all about choices.
luckily, UH has some quality players sitting and waiting for their opportunity to step up and show their stuff.
GO WARRIORS!
August 13th, 2008 at 11:11 am
DPK and Mojo,
exactly, that's what i mean.
as for me, well, not too many of me running around, wait, is that an oxymoron, or just a moron, why blame an ox? don't know...
but it's great to have guys make wild statements and not have to be accountable.
the truth, now that is an oxymoron.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:13 am
And here I thought ST was being patriotic with a quote from the Pledge Of Allegiance....
August 13th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Thanks, Wreck! ...and for
getting draftedvolunteering to emcee the program, like at Blog Party 4? Maybe trusty assistant Koakane can assist again? If we have a program, Mrs. Bulla/d1shima will clear the song queue off the computer and enter the specific songs of the participants... solos, duets, trios, small groups. Should be interesting.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Kazz -
One name I wouldn't want to have given to me is Horatio. Especially when kids in school are old enough to know what other word rhymes with Horatio.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Mav: "palatial"?
August 13th, 2008 at 11:25 am
wreck,
could we start at 10? i'd like homey to catch at least 1/2 hour of the show....
August 13th, 2008 at 11:25 am
WarriorMojo,
Nah UA is not touching the helmet design.
Rainbowtique is just behind the bar in a lot of merchandising ideas.
However if you want mini helmets and/or full sized helmets:
http://www.prideofhawaiisports.com
This is where I got that my Colt helmets, the helmet decals, etc from in the past.
Plus this is the best place for us locals to buy quality Colt Redskins jerseys.
No, I am not related or friends with the people that run this site, but as they say "satisfied customers are the best free advertisement available".
August 13th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Mav,
in inner city schools, the word woud be yoratio...as in the sentence, '....mother----, what is yoratio of bullets to crackahz...'
yoratio
in alabama, yoratio would be heard in the following sentence...
'...uncle billy boy, yoratio kind of guy, wanting ellie may to stay home and not go out wit Tyrone....'
yoratio
August 13th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Reply to "the truth" : Hey "truth" do you have any evidence to what you say, because it's uncool to libel a fine young player like Blaze Soares. If you can't come up with some proof, you're no better than that idiot that libeled the Oklahoma QBs a few weeks back. Put up or shut up!
August 13th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Bulla: You did good in the spelling bee, eh?
August 13th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Howzit Tsaikos!
Really feeling bummed for Rocky and (especially) Blaze! Hang in there guys, be smart, take care, follow your rehab to the T, and get well soon! We'll be glad to see you back in time for the WAC season!
BHF2 -- I guess Conor is off-line and on-island now, and I haven't heard anyone else express interest, so perhaps we should call off the Big Island 'Aha 'aina for now. But if you going to be in the Waimea area someday around mealtime, kahea and I'll try meet you at the Kalbi place.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Crikey Mojo ! I had to look up the word > palatial
Bulla - Yoratio is only in the slang Dictionary. :>
Good ones.
Glad to see your minds are clean, as mine was floating in the gutter with Rhymes, but no reason.

Rob25,
are taking luggage or carry on only? if you have a carry on, i'd like you to take homey on the trip, he needs a break from his intense dog training that he is involved with. he'd fit in the overhead compartment, no Horatio like activities up there.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:46 am
wow, Temple must've been desperate.
or were they temporarily blinded by the bling-bling of the gold medal just like we were. they'll soon blink their eyes and say OH NO, what did we do??? and by then it'll be too late, he'll be locked in his office not taking any calls or messages counting his $330k he stole from us.
sorry Temple, better yours than ours. didn't you read his resume? he got FIRED. either that the good 'ol boy network or the "friends of friends of friends of friends" system really helped him out big time.
i really wished we could've set up a Celebrity "deathmatch" tournament, MTV style, between HF and either JJ/JD or a contest-prize winning fan. they could've even made that a fundraiser. that would've drawn in $$$$.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:49 am
homey: I'm with chawan_cut... Where are you on my blog?
chawan_cut: Thanks for spreading the word. It would be nice if I could get a cake shaped like a football or with a UH logo or something. But, no sign of that here. Shhh... I don't even think they know what day it is.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Not sure what shirt you are exactly talking about BUT...
The Rainbowtique just added a few more items (SANS JERSEYS!!!) to their website.
They do have a new black UA Warrior Football shirt but again I am not sure if this is the same one you are talking about.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Bulla...Sorry they don't allow me to take "guns" on the plane and you know that homey get guns!
August 13th, 2008 at 11:54 am
What? That's the only Herman I know. What, football schedule and Ticketgate? Hmm, I don't seem to remember those events, for some reason ...
August 13th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
E-mail me at tsaikotaigate (at) gmail (dot) com.
Come on. We can all get together and discuss "the truth".
Try.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Why is my ear so itchy!
Where is James?
August 13th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
With all the trash that is posted in the section below on-line articles, this blog has always been a safe haven for those with a level-head.
Every once and a while, like the human body, a virus is introduced and then soon goes away WHILE STILL OWING DPK AND AL LUNCH!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
No secret, Kelli... that today is your birthday...your 21st birthday>
Be it known that she may legally try for one Strech's shot glasses and join the Bombers.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
afternoon gang!
i guess Stephen neva call in today's practice report to Stretch yet
August 13th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Rob25,
I told Homey he had 20" buns, i mean guns...whooooo, you should have seen him huff and puff his chest, almost as big as Pride's, well not really.....and then he asked, 'really, you think these are 20's?' i told him yeah, look like bro, let me look...
i was right, 10 + 10
at that point he went into the infamous CR conondrum...
August 13th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I have yet to hear a story of a 21st birthday in which the birthday boy or girl was able to walk on their own will at the end of the evening.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:19 pm

August 13th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
SteveM: Well, the crew at media relations here doesn't know. Maybe they'll read this blog. If they do, Kelli with an "i" would like cake and ice cream!
Come to think of it... I've never had a UH-themed birthday. Any Tsai-kos had a UH-themed birthday party? Anyway, I'm taking off for ohiru gohan soon.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Loa - okay, just got the phone call.
Team was in full pads today. Sorry for those waiting for tomorrow.
Walking wounded doing exercises on the sidelines, keeping in shape, staying busy rather than just sit around and watching. Blaze was not seen on the practice field. Rocky was there with his left arm in a cast but did the running with the rest of the team.
W-Mojo - You would have been a little sad today, Pepa had his pads off and didn't participate in the drills. Not sure how long he was out, noticed only when they started the short session of one on one drills. Not sure what's wrong.
Ah Soon was played some at center today, his snaps seemed cleaner and more consisitant than the other back ups.
QB's are still getting equal snaps although I am sure there is already a favorite in the coaches minds.
Receivers/DB's had their own short one on one session. The DB's did all right but not sure what will happen with the quicker, taller receivers Florida has.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
WarriorMojo,
"What do you think of parking at the park and ride lot on SW 34th Street and catching the Gator shutttle to the game?"
Gator shuttle is a great way to get to and from the game. Before the game the shuttle operation is smooth where as at the end of the game the shuttle service is hectic as thousands of fans leave the stadium. Leave the game early or catch the shuttle when the crowd has cleared.
"My hotel is somewhere near there so I’m thinking this is what I’m gonna do instead of trying to find parking closer to the stadium. "
If you are staying at the Hilton on SW34th, then you are staying at the official UF hotel and the only full service one in town. The hotel must have a shuttle for their guests to the game, it's a high end place.
"I guess I could even walk to the stadium on gameday except for #1 the heat and #2 having to walk past frat house row."
The stadium is about 3 miles away from SW34th Street. If you have time and want to take in some sights, then walking is not a bad idea. The campus is beautiful and full of interesting things to see. It will be more humid than hot, and yes frat row will be crazy.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Kazz: I had water and 7-Up on my birthday.
Kelli: My birthday, a bunch of us went to Les Murakami Stadium for Senior Night. I guess that's a UH-themed birthday. After, we went to TJ's, where I had the aforementioned water and 7-Up.
Stretch: Ack, ack, ack, Pepa out?
August 13th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Bulla – Interesting insight…probably explains the *extra* workouts that had to be done. Hopefully the maturation process continues to progress here. I’d like to think and believe that our new coaching staff and philosophies will help facilitate that.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Jason,
Enough carbonation can lead to "light-headedness".
Nah, I don't know...
August 13th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
wow Jason, I thought Chawan_cut was lame....
August 13th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
thanks Stretch, ah i mean Stephen for the practice report
August 13th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Stretch,
Hmmm...maybe the positive stuff from practice is coming later?
August 13th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
d1島 - positive reports from practice - Pride was in attendance and working on his conditioning.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
january jones,
lame is my name.
jason needs his own adjective.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
January Jones: I study under the best.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
gigi - how's the golf game going?? just wondering if you quit already.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
http://owlsports.cstv.com/genrel/081208aaa.html
I guess even Temple has to pull the wool over the eye's of the people who might give a cr@p.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Bulla, in your line of work I know you would know about those off-menu items some are partaking of. Hopefully, someone who can have a word with the team or the guys sampling from those choices will take note and let them know. Word gets around, but just as important, things can happen you can't control.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
man you guys are hillarious. 2.5 weeks till the Swamp! yikes!
August 13th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Stretch, somewhere A-House is pumping iron and booking a flight to Arizona.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Bulla -
You too funny.
A-House -
Don't get too excited and do something you'd never regret! He's gone and not our problem anymore.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Kazz - Someone has to try and justify the hiring.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I guess this is what is called accentuating the positive:
August 13th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Stretch,
Since you asked, hubby and I plan to have our golf swing analyzed at Pacific Golf Academy in Hawaii Kai in the near future. We will be videotaped and analyzed.
haha
I don't expect a miracle to happen.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
To say that he "managed an athletic budget" is obfuscation, if not an outright lie....IMHO
August 13th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
gigi - how much you paying them?? I'll do it for half. I have a video camera (as you already know) and I can show you what your swing looks like and what a swing should look like. There is not much analyzing until you find a swing.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Stretch,
Well, I guess that's a positive
August 13th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
d1島: - thanks for pointing that out. I misread and thought it said "At Hawai’i, he managed a deficit that grew from $16 million in his first year to $21 million in 2007-08, his final year"
August 13th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
talk about creative writing.
where's the con side?
August 13th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
ST-- (your post #131)-- Yikes! Edit out June Jones' accomplishments and add in the budget deficit numbers and there's not much of an "unparalleled success" story left...
August 13th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
just went to rainbow tique looking for jerseys and they told me it would be in soon. 7th time i was told that story so maybe they no more em or what? the shirts there are super ugly, anywhere else sells UH shirts?
August 13th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Stephen,
Was there an explanation as to why they went full-pads today? I thought everything was scripted?
August 13th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
chawan_cut,
He IS the con side!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
You know wat?
(Wat?!?!)
I'm done commenting on the guy.
Stay focused on things that matter....
August 13th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
ST said last week that there will be full pads today (Wednesday), although the posted schedule back in August indicated it was tomorrow.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
warriors, we have many stars on this team. jus need be given da chance

August 13th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Thanks SteveM. (although actually, we are still "back in August")
August 13th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
d1島 -- thanks. I used to get my dates mixed up. Now I'm progressing to months. Next thing you know it will be 2008 already!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
ST- mebbe someone should email Temple a certain video speech made by a certain sportscaster on a certain anny. party...
HIHO!
WARRIORS- BELIEVE!
Remember the 7th F - FAITH!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
"Ferd" called Temple to ask for an interview.
He was told that HF does not do interviews.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
ST - what's new?? I hope he took Lois Manin with him so she can speak for him
August 13th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Some things never change....
August 13th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
SteveM,
We'll talk on Saturday...
)
(go sleep tonite, wake up, go sleep, wake up, go sleep, wake up and we talk
August 13th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Actually, the original schedule I have says full pads for today. Maybe I forgot to type it in.
It wasn't a big deal. The only addition, as far as we could figure, was hip pads. They still practiced the same way.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
"Ferd" says HF is in charge of basketball and football scheduling.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
HF is a pro at conning.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Re: Cadiz Parents
When ST retires from the HA, his part time job should be as a Private Investigator. He saw a man and lady sitting on the sidelines and knew right away that they were Cadiz's parents without ever meeting them before. Simply amazing!!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
I'm wondering if you flipped that picture of the receivers a certain way if you could caption it differently?
August 13th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Who was standing to your left when you took the last pic? Must have been someone real interesting.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Darn, I wish Chaney were still there. If he thought Calipari was annoying, he'd totally throttle Herman.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
hmmm, maybe Princess Leila??
August 13th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Stretch - I know what Cadiz's parents look like! The dad is a teacher at Mililani...eh, he cut class today!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Dang -
Is there really a cast under Rocky's sleeve ?
Bullwinkle sez, " Looks just like the other sleeve." Har Har
Did they have enough plaster and gauze to wrap those tree trunks?
August 13th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Thanks for the explanation about full-pads.
You're gonna make me go back on my word:
Basketball and football SCHEDULING? I can picture Bill Cosby doing his eye-roll right now!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Bulla - u da man! BTW, I'm staring at that J-green bottle and thinking of those bomber freaks.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Stretch is right. Leila was standing off to the left when Big Bro took that pic. Of course, so was Derek.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Stretch,
Bingo! Dats wat I was tinking!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
(J)J did a jojo on me today. Drove all the way into town and waited for him but he nevah show up.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Mike,
Did you "catch ride" to practice today?
August 13th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
ok, for the band geeks out there...
http://www.torsopants.com/bandgeekhero
August 13th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
chawan - I wouldn't mind the ukulele hero shirt. Let me know if you are going to order something and I will split the cost of shipping with you.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Speaking of the band, I always thought that they should wear a shirt when they are not wearing the uniform tops outside of the pregame and halftime shows. They look a little silly wearing the pants with suspenders on in the stands during the game. Why not wear at least the green polo shirts or something??
August 13th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Happy Birthday Kelli!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
D1: Nah, I rode my damaged bike over. Don't tell management.
So, sometimes it pays to be a media bully. The towing company sent me a letter saying my bike was damaged before they towed it so they weren't going to pay for the repair. (This despite the fact that they couldn't have known that my lock was broken since the damage isn't visible from the outside.) So I called up and not so subtly hinted that I was very interested in writing a series of articles about tow company abuses. They called me back five minutes later to tell me that there had been a "miscommunication" with their driver and that they would indeed pay for the repair. If they needed lessons on stonewalling and deception, they should have contacted our admin services and HR folks.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I worry if it was because of Derek.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Is it going to rain at tomorrow morning's practice? Just my luck.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Hello folks,
Just curious about mr long time uh fan; i heard your name at the banquet and wondering if you are the same person i wrote to years ago. Are you FP the former assistant secretary of defense appointed by president clinton? If so thank you very much for assisting me in resolving my problem; if not, hope I haven't offended you in any way. I heard you talking to you friends about the warrior beat. Thanks for your time.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Derek should be the worried one...
August 13th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
manoa,
not a lot of them hangin and bangin, but enough to make it a problem. even the ones that were on the recruiting trip couldn't wait to go to the club....on kuhio, upstairs, starts with a Z....., ran into 4 of them at 1130 pm, and asked them what you doing? they said, going to the club....it's still early.....sheeesh.
maybe the allure of waikiki is too great for those with no discipline, i don't know, but as in the past there have been problems in the late 70's and 80's and 90's, so it remains.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Mike,
Hope you get things worked out favorably with the bike.
Since you were at practice and you are not THE beat writer, would you care to offer any insights or impressions?
August 13th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I gotta remember that instead of showing people empty shell casings.
I'm impressed Mike!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
homey,
pump up those gunz, flex'em and protect the women and children up there
August 13th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
bulla,
Maybe you solved the riddle of why practice started earlier than scheduled on Saturday.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Stretch,
Re your offer to videotape and analyze mine and hubby's golf swing
I think we are impressed by Pacific Golf Academy's computer-generated analysis, so we will go there, instead. Thanks for the offer, though.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Re Kua Aina Sandwich Shop at Ward Center. Hubby was so impressed by the amount of money OBAMA spent there, he wants to try their burgers and fries on Sunday. Obama left a $40 tip!
haha
Talk about the power of suggestion!
August 13th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
August 13th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Dunno, Homey, empty shell casings seem a lot more compelling to me...
D1, unfortunately, I had to meet with the insurance adjuster this morning so I only caught the last few minutes of practice. The one thing that struck me as strange was that Keoni Steinhoff was sitting on the side suffering from dehydration but couldn't seem to get anyone to give him some Gatorade. Still gave a very coherent interview, though.
Also, the receivers actually had to call ST over to take a pic of them doing their post-practice stretching: "Yo, where's Stephen Tsai and his camera?"
August 13th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
gigi - I'm with Stretch. After viewing the gigi's swings you don't need a computer to tell you what is wrong. In my opinion it would be better to get lessons from a pro and then fine tune your swings through video analysis. But that's just me because I see nothing wrong with my golf swing.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Gigi, tell hubby to go to the original on the NS. Maybe it's just the proximity to the beach, but the burgers always seem to taste better there.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Joel, thank you very much for your feedback. It's most appreciated.
Okay, I just spoke to the UH ticket office and was told that UH was alloted tickets for the Florida game in sections 43, 44 and 45. According to seating charts, section 44 is lower level along the visitor's sideline, but in line with the endzone. The other two sections are upper level at an angle to the endzone. The prime lower level sections behind the visitor's bench are 34, 36, 38 and 40.
For Oregon State, UH was given tickets in sections 211, 212, 213, 225, 226, and 227. According to the seating charts I see, all of these tickets suck! They are all UPPER level, at ANGLES to the field, in the ENDZONE, and on the BEAVER sideline!
Anyone interested in looking for alternative (better) seats for these games? Might be pricey.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
stretch,
they do wear a "uniform" band under shirt. Its got the H on the front and "marching band" or something like that on the back.
they wear that green polo shirt if they're not marching in the halftime and there's a high school band playing instead.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
d1,
it has been going on all summer,
boyz will be boyz,
just makin noize,
but they forget the powers that be
will take so much frivolity
and when it comes time to hang
watch out for the big bang bang
play the role and be da man
take some cracks while you stand
you think that you is all that
clubbing is where it's at
should be schooling
and stop the fooling
get it right, or don't go get,
your team don't deserve your bull s---
August 13th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Stretch is correct.
I do have some detective skills.
I looked at the couple, and judging from the way they were positioned and the rotation of the Earth and the wind blowing a certain way, I was able to correctly conclude that they were Cadiz's parents.
Oh, one other thing: Pop was wearing a shirt with "Cadiz" on the back.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
gigi - Just go to Jack in the Box and have their Ultimate Double Cheeseburger. More bang for the buck.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
ST, duh! haha
August 13th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
ST,
don't give all the secrets, everything but the last line...keep em guessing
August 13th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Thank you ST and Tsai-kos for all the birthday wishes. Someone in this office must be reading this because they suddenly knew what day it was when I got back from lunch. And I REALLY don't want to sing. This is rather shameful, but I'm the tone deaf ex-musician. Maybe that's why I stopped playing. Hee hee...
Jason: Sounds pretty cool to me. I would be happy with just a UH cake. I have a weakness for sweets.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Homey,
A trip to Jack In The Box is NOT complete without a purchase of their bacon-cheddar potoato wedges.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
chawan - yeah i see that shirt they wear but it looks stupid with the damn suspenders over it and the pants pulled up past their belly button. Looks almost Erkelsih... (and we all know who Erkel reminds us of)
http://scienceblogs.com/worldsfair/upload/2006/09/erkel.gif
August 13th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
homey,
my friend is gonna put an order in. i'll find out when.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Kazz - I concur! And top it off with a shake, any flavor will do for me.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Dangit, Kazz & Homey! Now I have to stop by Jacks on the way to work. There goes what little productivity I was planning on having. Oh well, guess I'll have to throw in an order of stuffed jalapenos, too.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
nah, Jack doesn't have PINEAPPLE burgers, a specialty at Kea Aina Sandwich Shop. Of course, if Obama had left a $40 tip at Jack's, we'd go there.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Attention, KAZZ! Possible Underarmour clothing alert.
If you go to Kelli's blog and scroll down to the pictures for the August 11th entry, I seem to see several UA items that I didn't see at Ward Rainbowtique on Monday. What say you?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
ST,
HF doesn't do interviews? Ya don't say?
Stretch,
I think HF has something over someone in a high position of power at Temple.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Stretch - you mean these two?
http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/Admin/Images/frazier.jpg
http://www.foroswebgratis.com/imagenes_foros/7/4/1/5/1/478945steve_urkel.jpg
August 13th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Mike - I forgot about the jalepeno's! I had my first at Jack's!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Kazz:
I am more than half-way to the 2009 Sugar Bowl and a short drive to the Fiesta Bowl - either will do me well.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Rob25:
I wish him well.
Unfortunately for Hawaii, we will feel his "unparalled successd" for years to come for being so incompetent!!!!!!!!!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
successd = success
August 13th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
gigi - the pineapple burgers are overrated. Kiawe grill also makes good burgers. The owner is a huge fan of UH football.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
homey - is that second shot a pic of HF when he had to meet with McClain and Hinshaw right before he got fired?? How'd you get your hands on that one??
August 13th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
you know what it is? The fact that our future president ate there. We can tell our grandkids that we actually ate where Obama ate!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I'd rather get a burger from Kiawe Grill than Kua‘āina.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
gigi - and I can tell my kids I went to the carnival that Obama went to school at.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Right! haha. We can tell people on the mainland:
"Punahou School? Oh, yeah, that's where the president graduated. I went to the carnival over dea."
August 13th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Stretch - That's the shot when he found out he was fired!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Jason - not only that but you can load up on the "Korean" vegetables at Kiawe Grill!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
gigi - have you ever been to the carnival at Punahou?? Somehow I can't imagine you walking through the mud with a muumuu on.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
homey - great photo!!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
WarriorMojo,
HOLY COW!!! I almost had to restrain myself looking at those pics (UA Merchandise at the Bookstore).
So... I did some "snooping" and spoke with someone there and apparently the Rainbowtique locations are supplied by the bookstore and they get their merchandise FIRST as well as some other items not available elsewhere.
Now those dark green tees are available at the Ward location (I called them) but I couldn't ID the rest of the stuff in those photos.
I asked the girl I was talking to about the arrival time for the UA jerseys and she said she will have to have the person who makes the orders call me back.
SO... STAY TUNED!!!!
(Pauoa Boy, still get hope!!!)
August 13th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I'm off to the afternoon practice. Hope to see some of you there.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

gigi, your off the wall comments never cease to amaze me. lame
August 13th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Stretch, I've been to the Punahou Carnival only twice -- pre-muumuu days!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Mike,
I no longer can eat the stuffed jalapenos.
Last time I ate them I had the flu the next day. Now I know they didn't cause it as I was already feeling funky before I ate them but it was the WORST flu I ever had and I now associate them with illness.
Thank God for Tamaflu.
Know what I miss tho? CHILI CHEESE CURLY FRIES!!!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Kua'aina Burger is good. No like the fries tho. Too thin and too short.
But everytime I have the chance to eat there I don't go for a burger, I go for their sandwiches and gotta have the avacado on them with a little salt!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Happy Birthday Kelli!
See you on Saturday.
Happy Birthday Erika!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
who even wears muumuus these days anyway?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
hmm now I wonder if Kua Aina will be crowded because of Obama.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Hmm. I wonder if this means homey will ... pull a homey?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
ST, thanks for yet another blog chock full of info and perspective … and cool snaps. Sure wish I could make the practices. Seem neat to watch.

Geckos to start getting into game prep after this morning's scrimmage.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
gigi - Nah, I don't think so. Same as the golf courses that Obama plays on. They won't be crowded and people aren't going to be trying to get their kids into Punahou in hopes that one day they will become a US Senator or Presidential Candidate.
But hey, I can tell my future grandchildren that I was on the same practice field as Colt Brennan and spoke with him after practice!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Coming off the scrimmage, their DC liked what he saw.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
d1島 - I hope UF's defense is in tip top shape because then there will be no excuses when the Warriors score often on them.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Obviously they know who their #1 QB is but they may not know who will share some of the load until game day.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
homey,
Sounds good.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
What time does practice start tomorrow?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
bbl for info on afternoon practice....
August 13th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Hey everyone! gonna pull an Esme but just wanted to pop in.
Big Happy birthday to my dear sis Eri! One of the best people I know.
ST, when you see her, please tell her Stacy says "hi". Her brother and my brother have been best friends since their days at Washington Inter.
And, hope Blaze and Rocky recover quickly. Just remember, everything happens for a reason and something good will come out of it...if you believe!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
don't know why but da kua'aina's in haleiwa taste a lot betta than da one in kakaako. jmho.
any progress in da search for a qb, or are we gonna give da starter only one solid week of practice as being da #1
read somewhere that paipai was up to 240#, if that's true and he was able to keep his speed. WOW, watch out.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Hmmm if Eri is stacyj's sister wouldn't that make Eri's brother and stacyj's brother brothers?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
D1,
Coach speak... coach speak.
That's all I see. For the longest time I have felt that Florida and some teams in that "category" plan to see how they can get a "W" with as little as possible.
The rumor of Meyer planning to play Tebow for only the first half, well, I believe it will be true.
The only planning I suspect Florida is doing or planning on doing is how to win with as much little risk to their starters.
Could be an Alabama 2006 type game again and while this the 2006 Alabama squad pales in comparison to the 2008 Florida Gators, it's the mindset that I suspect they have that could result in a much better game than people think.
If I am wrong and they win by as many TDs as people suspect then I will gladly eat my words and tip my hat to the better team.
For now, I smile reading comments like that.
Coach speak... coach speak.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
dpc - maybe the one in Haleiwa uses beef from North Shore Cattle Co. and the Ward one uses May's.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Hope Manti Te’o is enjoying his favorite beaches, hiking trails, and other hangouts because if he goes to school on the mainland and expects to get into the NFL he is facing 13-15 years of seeing very little of Hawaii. With college football stressing summer workouts now, even summers are bound to be spent on the mainland. Then of course you buy a house in the pros, discover all your old friends have changed...... get married, have kids..... blatant propaganda but worth thinking about.
Or is that me I'm writing about?
August 13th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
haha homey
don't be hating on my favorite May's patties. go to da pun carnival not for da malasadas or anything else, but for da dollar fifty mays burger.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLI
Kazz - Mahalos my bruddah about the jerseys. By the way my email is pauoaboy31 at yahoo dot com...
August 13th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Howzit stacyj...you dayum esme-nator
August 13th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Pretty hard to gauge how we'll do in the swamp simply because of the amount of changes from 07 to 08 squad. If Florida's mindset is that UH is a cupcake team then so be it. After the UGA game can you blame them?
Not to mention looking at us they see: the guy who was looking to take over for Colt is ineligible, Blaze is out, yadayada.
Here's to UH sneaking up on UF and at least making the gators a bit nervous by making it a close game, or even pulling off the improbable victory.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Re: Davone Bess
I already knew this was bound to happen. I'm sure Davone will soon make a move to lineup with Ted Ginn Jr. and start. Miami receivers suck ballsacks and we all know what Davone can do. He has the hands and ability to be a productive NFL receiver no doubt.
Re: Paipai Falemalu
At first I would hope to have him redshirt and get settled in and dominate his following 4 years of football, but knowing how good he already is...nevamind. I think he was an outstanding pick up for us and he is better than advertised. Watching him during unsupervised workouts, he really has a knack for the LB position, saw many tipped balls and a few interceptions from him. He may still be raw, but I envision Paipai turning into a dominating beast at LB and obliterating all who cross his path. The playing experience he will get this year will pay big dividends when the Bash Brothers Adam and Solly graduate...
August 13th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Steven sets the right tone for HF talk, despite the "silver lining" tone.
Now that Herman Frazier has returned to his hometown as Temple’s associate AD, the key figures in January’s drama have all found perfect fits.
Need to let that guy go.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Re: Quarterbacks
Can somebody drop a hint or what? Feels like one of those shows were the announcer takes his sweet arse time to announce the winner and you just want to kick him in the frikkin balls and say who already. Not that I would want to do that literally but the anticipation of knowing who our QB is this year is nerve racking. I'm pulling for Funaki, but wouldn't mind either Greg or Brent starting if that was the case. Either way good luck to all three and may the best man win!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Happy Birthday Kelli & Erika!
Pauoa Boy: hope you are feeling better.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Okay you guys need to stop talking chit cause it stinks in here... oye wait nevermind no wonder it stinks somebody mentioned the dreadful name Herman Frazier again...so please stop
August 13th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
midori7,
Howzit sis, yeah feeling better...went to physical therapy today and had one pretty Brazilian girl helping with my excercises. Needless to say I didn't notice any pain somehow but I did notice my helper haha... Nah, but fo reals my back is getting better, diagnosed as a severe strain an approximate recovery time is 3 weeks for me...
By the way I haven't gotten a hold of my bro yet, so maybe you can try call him. Email me at pauoaboy31 at yahoo dot com for the number...
August 13th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
midori7 - so um UHfan808 volunteered her services to massage my back so I think by knowing that I'm going to stay hurt until I see her again haha. Nah, but tell mom and dad I said Hi...
August 13th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Pauoa Boy: will email you later today. pau hana. take it easy!
August 13th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
paipai is da reason i ain't 2 worried bout manti. i know manti's a once in a decade player but i feel paipai is pretty good in his own right. and if you look at our LB's in da coming years, we look to be pretty good
next year got Paipai, TJ Alofipo, Brashton and Blaze, etc. Would be nice to bring in dat Lopati kid from Kapolei, he seems to be a stud 2.
now don't get me wrong, dis is not a post against manti, by all means if by that slightest chance he does come, biggest recruit hands down in da history of our program, just a post to say how excited i am about our LB core in da future already
August 13th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
hangin out at Zanzanbar/Fashion 45 area, yikes - scary. only trouble happens there, tourists, military, locals - that's asking for trouble.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
K shoots bye sis...
da princess' classmate, I'm with you on that one. Paipai is going to be mean. TJ Alofipo going be mean, plus no forget Po'okela, Mana, Waylon, Art, Kaleo, Andrews...etc... not worried either. But Manti would solidify dat group and plus with Paipai and TJ being big guys they might even move to the DLine once they get on the weight training program with Coach Mel.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
RE: QB's umm...
Shane Austin and Steele-bo Jantz will be very good for us in the years to come.
Honestly speaking I have had a hard time "judging" QBs and this past Saturday no one really stood out, but Austin had some nice throws with good mana behind a lot of them.
Sure some of his decision-making needs work as he seemed to panic a few times but he'll get his share of reps and will be a serious contender in the future to the likes of Raush (JR by 09 SR by 10), Neilsen, Jantz, etc...
August 13th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
underarmour.com still hasn't updated their online store w/all the schools they sponsor. What other school is now an underarmour school besides Auburn, South Carolina, TX Tech, Maryland, Utah, and Hawaii?
August 13th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
It's going to be the tag team battle royal of Team Heineken and Bud Light vs Team Guinness and Pabst Blue Ribbon.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
The reason the QB race seems so close is cause all the QB's can make the throws and are pretty mobile, so physically they are all about equal and no I not talking size either! So I think what Coach Mack and Coach Rolo are looking for are what else can they bring to the table, like leadership and all that. At least we know we have a pretty good group of QB's and either one can start. Still the unknown is getting irraz!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
I wonder if BCS-busting was a factor in UnderArmour signing Utah and UH haha. Boise is probably in the middle of a Nike contract.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Kay nuff for now be back lataz gotta do homework so I no end up like that Graunke guy...d'oh!

Troy Smith vs. Joe Flacco in Baltimore. ..zzzz
August 13th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

30 Biggest Early Season Out of Conference Games
16. Hawaii @ Florida
- Another game that would look better a season ago, but still intriguing nonetheless. Hawaii will be trying to show that it was more than just the Colt Brennan Show, and also have a better showing against an SEC school. Florida on the other hand, will simply be trying to make an early season example out of Hawaii.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Mav,
With the QB talk, gotta hope for Rolo to be on as the guest.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
NYUH: More than likely, Solly projects to the NFL as an outside linebacker. I'm not saying he can't play inside, but he is pretty small for the position. Look at London Fletcher, one of the smaller MLBs in the league — he may be 5'10", but he is 245 lbs. I think once Solly gets into an NFL weight room, he can get up to 235 as a decent weight.
The move will probablly help Solly, as NFL teams will be able to get film on him as an OLB. Then depending on the system, teams can project him inside or outside.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
That's pretty much the meat and potatoes of what the game will be all about.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Hey Mav!
Got through my first day back at work with only one nap
Now I gotta tear myself away from the screen and get home!
August 13th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Yes! This Saturday is indeed Colt Brennan Day per the order of Mufi.
But I feel horrible now as I've forgotten when Kanoe Kamana'o Day is.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:51 pm

August 13th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
ST- did you say silver lining?
Just to let you know that miracles ARE possible.
You may remember that yesterday the Gas man reported that water was pouring out of my 2nd floor bathroom while #2 son was showering.
I called my favorite handyman-plumber and left him a vm.
This morning he calls and says he's going by the house. (miracles 1 and 2).
I call my #3 son in the afternoon after I get another vm on the plumber's phone. He says it's fixed. He replaced the spout - I guess the knob you pull for the shower was bad (miracles 3 and 4).
He'll mail the bill, I guess, because he didn't leave one.
I love living in a village!
August 13th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
With football teams, it's not a matter of "will we have any injuries". Every year, you can always expect injuries. You just don't know who will be injured. While it is sad whenever you have guys go down who worked so hard during the off-season. Injuries are simply part of the game.
The good teams will overcome these injuries, while the average teams will struggle.
In 1978 when Wilbert Haslip went down, he was a pre-season All-American. In came a lightly recruited, little known freshman by the name of Gary Allen. We all know how that story ended.
In 1976 and 1977, the Washington Huskies had a stud quarterback by the name of Duane Akina. Duane was injured two years in a row and yielded to his back-up, Warren Moon. We know how that story ended also.
In 1958 the Green Bay Packers drafted local boy Joe Francis out of Oregon State in the fifth round. The Packers already had a quarterback that they drafted out of Alabama in the 17th round in 1956. While the two youngsters battled for the number 3 spot behind Babe Parilli and Lamar McHan, Francis yielded the spot to the Alabama QB because of injury. Bart Starr became the starter in 1959 and went on to become a Hall of Fame QB.
Sorry, now I forgot the point that I was trying to make.
Ahhh. Consider this trivia.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Here's to the underdog.
The surprising part of the summer of Brett Favre is how underdogs could emerge as winners of some of the quarterback battles around the league.
Troy Smith, a fifth-rounder from the 2007 draft, could beat out former first-rounder Kyle Boller. Kyle Orton, the former Chicago Bears' fourth-rounder who doesn't make many turnovers, could beat out former first-rounder Rex Grossman. While it's inevitable Atlanta Falcons first-rounder Matt Ryan will start at some point this season, Chris Redman could take the team into the season.
Perhaps the most amazing upset is in San Francisco. J.T. O'Sullivan, a Lions backup signed for the NFL minimum $645,000, has the lead in a quarterback battle against Alex Smith, the first pick in the 2005 draft.
At least Favre cleared up two starting controversies. He took the New York Jets' starting job and allowed Chad Pennington to move to Miami and claim the Dolphins' starting job.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
d1- c'mon ... more info! furfle.. Linfield... studying??? Playing anything???

Why are so many "previews" actually reviews? Totally weak effort.
2008 ANALYSIS:
OFFENSE: Not only did June Jones bolt for greener pastures and a larger
paycheck, nearly every major skills player from the offense has also
been taken from the new roster. Gone is Brennan, along with receivers Davone
Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullen, Jason Rivers, and C.J. Hawthorne. As if that all were
not enough, All-American left guard Hercules Satele is no longer in the
trenches.

ST is alive and shopping.

NYUH- arrgh. And don't even look at the ratings sites!

I sure like the way ST throws out a quick teaser and then disappears.

Happy birthday Kelli and Erika....Kelli don't forget to bring your designated driver to the KK this Saturday, it's time to do a Homey on your 21st birthday...

"In an air-conditioned mall," is my guess.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Watched the Leaheys show tonight. Kanoa prefers Inoke Funaki as starting QB because the team likes Inoke. Remember Rolo and Colt? The team rallied behind them and got a winning season simply because they liked Rolo and Colt.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
OK, so the mall is open for another 45 minutes.
laterssss....
August 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
At least Meyer is not going to have a ton to go on when he game-plans for the Warriors. Pretty much everything is new on the offensive side. It will take a remarkable game for UH to beat the Gators... but bigger upsets have happened.
We knew last year that the offense was going to be productive out of the gate. This year no one is really tested. That is the biggest problem with losing Tyler. He has been productive in the past and has lots of game reps. Inoke has some reps as well, but nothing like what Tyler has. No one is going to know until the first quarter in Florida if the one (of the three) who wins the starting job has the stomach for the atmosphere down there.
It will be really interesting to see what Coach Mack comes up with. The JJ era was all about the offense-- you have to figure that defense is going to be more prominent now.
Manti Te'o. That would be something if he chose to stay home. It would be great for the program. Manti has to do what is best for himself and his future-- and honestly (and unfortunately) with the options he has staying at home probably isn't the best choice. The good news is that if he really wants to do architecture or engineering some of the more prominent football schools aren't particularly good choices either, which makes UH a bit more attractive.
Speaking of Manti, could this be Punahou's year? It would be nice to get the football monkey off our buffanblu backs... nobody is going to feel the least bit sorry for Punahou athletics, (and nor should they) but c'mon, we haven't won a football title... I was going to say "in forever" but that might not be accurate.
I am hoping to get to the Boise game. I haven't driven much in eastern oregon so this might be a good chance for a sightseeing roadtrip...

Pride,
Your point is well taken, that's just how life is. One persons misery is another persons opportunity. Unfortunate, but true and we see it play out on a daily basis.

Hi expat- hope you get to go to a game! And hope to see you in a month!
Hi Ted!

August 13th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
hi Liz. Were you swamped when you returned to work today? A week off is a long time in a small office.
Hope you're well now.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
ok Tsaikos,
checking in, still protecting natives from the tourists, thought i'd drop by...haha
August 13th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Gigi,
Off course the team likes Inoke, everybody likes Inoke, what's not to like about the guy?
But I sure hope that's not the criteria to make him the starter. Are you saying they don't like Greg or Brent? From all sources I've seen and heard from, Greg Alexander is highly respected by the team. He worked his behind off since he came here and has come very far. He's big, strong and mobile.
In any case, as long as they pick the truly best one, I'm just fine with it, whoever it may be. I hope they choose by tomorrow, we need to get the starter ready.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Hi, Liz,
Glad you're better.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
gigi- "swamped" is not such a good word around here...
Yes, office was busy as I had to catch up on a week's work. Lucky I made a big dent in the priority stuff before I fell asleep after lunch...
August 13th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Liz,
glad you're better, no fun being sick at all.....

ST seems to be not alone in his malaise.
The swagger, the brashness...call it cockiness--was gone.
I stuck around, sensing a change in mood.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
hi Bulla!
August 13th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Gigi,
They liked Rolo and Colt first, because they were great QB's, Colt's personality cult came much later in his UH career. Rolo wasn't here long enough to develop a cult, lol.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
It's kind of a strange analogy to make by a sports caster. He picks Inoke because the team likes him??? Dah...
August 13th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
The cult of Rolo will emerge with his coaching.
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=219&f=1136&t=2801910
They snaked to blitz.... again, Calvin Roberts was involved, exploding off the left edge and sacking the QB before he could draw his gun.
Our CBs are deep in talent and tight in pass coverage.... the quickness and speed, at this level, at this quantity, never been seen with this program--ever.
Totally impressive.
Dowling, Mouton, JP, Roberts, Ryan Perry, Bryant, Black, Silva, Monteilh, Thomas, Porlas and Estes--not to mention the frosh, Ornellas, Septer and Walker.
Linebackers
Brashton Satele looked good...he was prepared and his size filled up holes. Give him time and experience, he has the genes.
Solomon Elimimian is so fast on the outside. Geez, maybe that's where he belongs. Expect Sol to make a huge impact from ROLB.
RJ Kiesel-Kauhane broke up a pass over the middle in 11-11s jumping high in the air to swat away a bullet headed for its target. This kid is full of heart.
Paipai jumped into the action and was sprinting aLL OVER THE PLACE WITH A NON-STOP MOTOR.
Tyler Kaventzis was mixing it up too.
Mana Lolotai had bigtime reps--he will represent the warrior just fine.
Dont worry about our D--they are dead-on serious--with less talk and as much walk.
They dont swagger anymore but hurry about with purpose and vigor.
Determined to accept their new roles and out to prove, they can get the job done.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Good evening everyone!!
Gunfunnit Liz, thought I told you to rest. Now get to bed!! j/k. But really, take it easy at least for the next few days. Only go for half-days at the office, no? You deserve it. Gotta get your strength back before heading off on the cesspool of germs known as an airplane to da swamp.
Hi bhf2! Hi FT! Hi gigi! and everyone else I wen forget.
Mrs. Mac wuz on da Animals dis pm. Seems like a very nice lady. Sounds like da clinic gonna be fun.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Ted, too bad you can't watch the L&L show. Anyway, Kanoa feels that Inoke should start at Florida and Alexander can have some PT later in the season.
Apparently, Kanoa sees the 2 QBs as being in a very tight race to be starter. They are both very good, with Alexander having a cannon of an arm. However, Inoke has been around longer and has established such a strong bond with the team that it is hard to ignore such INTANGIBLES.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Time to go through the Miami papers for Warrior news.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Sounds like the Florida coaches aren't respecting the Warriors. In this article the Florida coaches are basically saying that their next scrimmage will be against Hawaii
""Tomorrow's a big day," said defensive line coach Dan McCarney. "It's a big evaluation. It's game speed, game snaps and we've gotta find out a lot about these guys because the next time we go scrimmage is probably going to be Hawaii."
August 13th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

"It’s kind of a strange analogy to make by a sports caster. He picks Inoke because the team likes him??? Dah…"
The team is in sore need of peer leadership and inspiration. they need a reason to play their hearts out. They need a point of unity and yes, a channel into the spirit
The mind and body will follow the inspiration!

this list gets longer as get closer. Sorry for any mistakes...
• Parking should not be a problem with the large parking lots.
• Any carpooling and Designated Driver arrangements are probably already made privately, but it you are looking for a DD, please post request on blog.
• The large (green) room has a lot of space but ice chest "pooling" recommended. Don't block the aisles, they are needed for dancing
• We may enter the room at around 7:45 PM (theoretically)
• Mrs. Bulla and d1shima will be entering songs into the system per my request (as they did at the April 19 KK call). We will have paper slips for writing song requests. Turn in song requests to Mrs. Bulla or d1shima.
• Mrs. Bulla and the Jager Bombers will set in the front half of room for song input --also the Bomber table. All Tsai-kettes invited to stop by
• Bulla is setting up and tending a Midori Margarita/daquiri bar with assistance from Rob25 and has requested a back corner.
• WreckinEyez will have something interesting to set up in the other back corner...
• Attempts to gather a food list has mostly failed so far, but please, only 1 bunch of watercress (don't over-feed Bulla). Go ahead and bring your food/pupus...we'll probably go to 12:45 AM and need the fuud.
• At the current RSVP count, it is very likely that we will extend another hour to 12:45 AM (no additional cost). Stretch makes the on-scene call based on the nights finances.
• Standby for a possible semi-organized singing program at around 10:30 PM. Maybe. Solos, duets, small group, etc. -- emceed by WreckinEyez (who MC'd Blog Party 4 and rallied the Tsai-kos to their largest group song at the last KK call)

I didn't realize that brothers were involved in a MLB game today--one as a player and the other as an umpire.

I have no qualms about that. Like I've said, I just hope they make the best possible decision.

I don't think the coach was talking pidgin; as in, "we go beach."
For a coach to say what you are implying would be too easily made into bulletin board stuff.

OK, either math has changed a lot in the last xx years or I remember nothing! Tried to help my daughter with homework and couldn't. Never heard of any of the stuff in the book. And it's only the 3rd day of school! She's already complaining about the teacher not explaining things at all/well. So where's the math major when you need him? Jason, yooo hooo. Wanna make some money tutoring? MPI right next to UH. Well, just have to see how this goes.

When talking about food, I hope that I never see this type of thing posted for one of the places I eat at! Burger King worker took a bubble bath in a store sink while other employees and a store manager watched. The video posted on MySpace got all of the employees fired.

Hi Liz,
thanks for yesterday's info on Treos...I tried to post with mine (verizon service)...it sent it, then went to the HA search page, then I had to start over to get to warriorbeat...The message never got posted...tried it 3 times, with same results...I have doubts if the iPhone 3G would be any better since I suspect the HA-IT is doing something that blocks it...just speculating.

“”Tomorrow’s a big day,” said defensive line coach Dan McCarney. “It’s a big evaluation. It’s game speed, game snaps and we’ve gotta find out a lot about these guys because the next time we go scrimmage is probably going to be Hawaii.”
Bulletin Board Material Ryan!
Gets my green blood boiling and if I were a Warrior O-lineman I would be soooooo fired up!
Go Warriors!
August 13th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Liz,
You won't get an argument from me on that. If I were a player, I want a QB that gives me the best chance to win, regardless of who I'd like more or less personally. I'm not rooting for one over the other, I just want the one best suited for the offense we'll have.
I'm not a coach and could not observe practices personally, but I do believe that we have great coaches. I will simply trust them to make the best decision for the team and I'll be happy.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Ted,
Kanoa also mentioned that Inoke is a talented RUNNER, which is a big plus in this offense. We will see a lot of running this season, he said.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Some media reports said that Pennington's deal with Miami was worth $11.5 mil. That is technically true, but they didn't mention that for him to get that amount of money he has to be the MVP of the Super Bowl!
August 13th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Liz - I posted once with my Blackjack. But since the phone is not touchscreen, getting to the bottom of the blog takes forever! So guess I won't be posting very much with the phone.
BTW, I don't have a portable radio with AM. Anyone know if I can stream the audio on my phone? I like hearing RK's comments live.

cavewarrior- man, I am glad I wasn't the only Treo person going nutz trying in vain to post! So now we need to get the message to the people that count - or who might be inclined to do something about it.
The season starts in 2 weeks and we are still blogged down!
Garret- thanks or the 3G warning. My first accessory was a case, then a car charger, then extended Apple Care. I've been reading about summa da problems people are having. Using the iPhone sounds something like learning how to drive a Prius for optimum mileage - pulse and glide

jm2375 - hmmm. dunno about blackjacks but there must be a way to page down...
For the news, I like chawan_cut's work. For radio- email the stations to go online or go podcast. If they get enough requests, they may do it sooner than later.
now I gotta find me a tech who can fix this treo problem... bbl
August 13th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Thanks Jason. I think we should see how things go and the first step is to ask the teacher for help. Hopefully he will be available.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Chad Ocho Cinco. Yikes.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Liz - already asked the question of ATT tech support. No way to do an "End" + down arrow. I can page down, but 1 page is like 1 post long if it's not long. I've been registered on the KKEA website for a long time (last season at least), but haven't really tried too hard with the phone. Da phone didn't come with earbuds, etc. Grrrr.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
In my opinion,
Inoke will start, giving Alexander a chance to learn the offense. Rausch will be a good #3, but will need a lot more time to learn the offense.
Keep in mind that the starting nod in 2005 went to Graunke, with Brennan at #2 and Jack Rolovich at #3.
Right now Inoke looks like the best bet to start. However, Alexander looks like the most likely to light up the 2010 NFL combine.
What am I saying? I don't know it's to late to explain, 'm tired. Too much conditioning drills today.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Well, I sure hope Inoke doesn't end up being the sacrificial lamb in the Florida game.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
What I meant was I hope he isn't injured at the game.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

Sorry about last Saturday night at KHS stadium, but something really ugly happened. I'll 'splain to you at the K-call.
Meanwhile watch those workouts big guy, we practice once a month on the ceded lands whether we need to or not. When you move in, you'll see what I mean.

August 13th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
So I bought a bass guitar last week.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
With the bass comes an instruction book on how to play.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
So for a whole week I have practiced religiously, putting in hours a day.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Bring 'em to da K-call! We can add extra bass on every song.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
The 2008 Left Hander of the Year is Barack Obama.

Koakane- thanks for the encouragement! I'm looking forward to using the GPS when I'm traveling!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
So this weekend, I'm going to get my bass playing analyzed by a friend who used to play with K.C. and the Sunshine gang. It's only going to cost $75.00. He'll give me an evaluation, and include a video of my performance.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
J- just the one! I am buying another iPhone and will practice hard on my typing...
August 13th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Pride. Sounds like Mr. gigi getting his swing analyzed....
no... never mind... no comparison...
August 13th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
J- I was always intrigued by left-handed fellas. Musta been the creative attraction.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Pride - if you play da bass as well as you do your slack key guitar...goin' be awesome at all the Tsaiko T-gates.
Hey, what about turning into one strolling band of Tsai-ko's! We could have a battle of the bands to pump up the crowd and challenge the UH band.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
I think my friend played for K.C. and the Sunshine band not gang.
Anyway, my other friend, Bulla's classmate has offered to give me bass playing lessons. But at $100.0 a month, it just cost too much.
I think I'll just stick with the analysis.
Bulla's classmate is good though. He was a studio musician in L.A. for twenty years.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Although hubby writes with his left hand, he throws and golfs with his right hand. It's a good thing cause our golf clubs are for right handed golfers.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Pride. (just read more posts) you have been playing bass for only 1 week? WOW! Can you play and sing at the same time?
I can't. That's one reason why singing has been a hobby and not a job for me.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
gigi- my #1hubby was the same. Write left, throw right. My #1son is the opposite. Write right, throw left.
I am always "right"... bwahahaha!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Liz, I took lesson #1 in the book. They have four more lessons. Maybe by September, I can be a studio musician too. Can't wait to get my bass playing analysis.
I wonder if I would get any better if I was to take lessons from a real PRO like Bulla's Classmate, maybe I might end up actually having something to analyze after a year's worth of lessons.
Hmmmmm. thingd to think about.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
That's the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it... kewl.
Oh- gigi- #1hubby played a right-handed guitar left handed- Cotton picking style - upside down and backwards.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Liz ~ Pride played 'slack' and had us all in a trance. I think was Ophi moe moe, and all us went sleep! Bet you didn't know that they same baritone voice that sings "One in a Million" can also sing Falsetto almost as smooth as his grandma *Aunty Genoa.*
August 13th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Pride. Suggestion- take the lessons right away before you develop any bad habits. If you are in a learning mode, get the best teacher you can get asap

Our loved ones in the Concourse are separated from us only by an eyelid.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Then, you got Phil Mickelson who watched his dad golf. Since it was mirror image, Phil learned to golf left handed though his dominant hand is right.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
haha whenever hubby and I see someone writing with his left hand, we look at each other and nod, "Sign of insanity..."
We watch Obama closely. j/k
August 13th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Posting from my iTouch. Peaches loves it.
It is synched to her iMac for iTunes and iPhoto, not mine.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Ok...let's review. On the Bass Guitar we got:
1. Kama Krab
2. Wreck
3. A-Joe
4. Kaipo
5. Pride
So we actually have an entire Tsaiko Eletrical Bass Band!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
The blog reduced in width and font size after the refresh, but is still readable. Won't respond to the zoom double-taps though.

August 13th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
oohhh.. I am inspired now. The guy at ATT showed me a book he was writing on his iPhone. Then he showed me how fast he can type with his thumbs.
He said to spend at least 2 weeks practicing. hmmm.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
kekoa, do you type with your 2 thumbs or with a padded stylus?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Wow...that was an eye opener! My iphone was faster to refresh. but my typing is still the sheets on it Aunty Liz.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:59 pm

J-Dog comments :
"Pretty hard to gauge how we’ll do in the swamp simply because of the amount of changes from 07 to 08 squad. If Florida’s mindset is that UH is a cupcake team then so be it. After the UGA game can you blame them?
Not to mention looking at us they see: the guy who was looking to take over for Colt is ineligible, Blaze is out, yadayada.
Here’s to UH sneaking up on UF and at least making the gators a bit nervous by making it a close game, or even pulling off the improbable victory."
Great insight. This is a very important game for Hawaii. If Hawaii gets blown out by Florida, then the credibility of the Hawaii football program will take a major hit. Many small colleges like Troy and Marshall have come in an played well. Hawaii cannot have another Georgia game.

Good Morning Villagers ~
My day is filled with appointments and some things that are not what I enjoy doing.
Give me football and I will be fine, thank you.
Another day of "Slam Bang" action in pads! Florida coming into focus. The boyz want this game. They'll be ready....I BELIEVE!

Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Today is D-Day for the QB's.
I was actually able to attend the afternoon practice yesterday and noticed while they were running their "2-minute" offense, they had a certain QB who I think is going to be the man. Too bad I can't make the morning practice today to confirm what I think.
August 14th, 2008 at 6:56 am
Maybe I should have read ST's article before posting.
August 14th, 2008 at 7:02 am
ST,
I think that there was a typo in your article...isn't the bolded Hisatake below supposed to be Letuli instead?
August 14th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Good Morning Tsaikos here and arounjd the world. It looks like the Warriors are on track and following their training script. Today is GD day (not bad word for those of you whose mind is in the muck) and hope to do some damage at Kahili. Going back to lurking and see how the offensive scenerio plays out for the Warriors. GO WARRIORS!!!!
August 14th, 2008 at 7:08 am
Good Morning Tsaikos! Hope everyone has a good day.
expat,
it would be nice to meet you at the BSU game, but as far as sight seeing in eastern oregon, I think you'd be disappointed with the sights.
August 14th, 2008 at 7:11 am
haha,
Pride taking bass lessons is awesome. you're right, my classmate is very talented playing with the likes of Lee Ritenour, Kenny Rankin, Al Jarreau, every local act in town, and many many more. He rocked the House of Blues when he headlined there. I was blessed to have him play at our wedding, man the guy can flat out rip it.
Trivia question of the day, who is a former trumpet player, turned concert cellist, turned stand up bass player in our Tsaiko family, (same individual was a pianist (careful how you say that Homey) for 6 years, and competed at UH's very own Orvis Auditorium during High School as a cellist?
figure that out and let me know
August 14th, 2008 at 7:20 am
al,
you survived the trek to the wild side of maui.....haha, i always tell chad i wanted to enter him in the tv show 'survivor', but thought it would bring back to many childhood memories, haha.
what next, halawa valley on moloka'i with the Aluli's, haha
call me, hungry already.....
August 14th, 2008 at 7:27 am
Great Morning All!
Day II of full pads and Decision Day for QB1. Wish I could be at this morning's practice; watching 3 QB's lay everything on the line knowing this is their last chance to impress should be fun.
Homey, don't disappoint; give us da blow-by-blow!
August 14th, 2008 at 7:35 am
The Geckos thought that Percy Harvin may have been in the running for the Heisman this year but that seems unlikely now.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes! I feel so special.
Looking forward to meeting some of you on Saturday.
WarriorMojo and Kazz: Speaking of UA stuff, I don't own anything yet. Terrible, yeah? I think I'll get a new shirt for media relations attire, but I want my own collection, too. I hope they have nice stuff for girls/women. I remember some other brand used to make shirts and stuff that seemed to run VERY small. It looked like they were for little kids.

expat,
Agree withe djmitcho. Driving thru Eastern Oregon to Boise is something to "get through". I think the only interesting thing was finding out how Owyhee, ID got it's name!

Morning/afternoon, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.
I'm starting to wonder a little if it's a good thing that all three QB's are still so close. I was hoping that one of them would have separated himself somewhat. Especially Funaki, with all his experience and the big head start he had, I would have expected him to have secured the job by now, if he's the one.
On the other hand, I hope it means that we have three first class QB's in camp. Can't wait for the results.
August 14th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Eh, I've lived in Oregon for 7 years now and have barely been east of Portland. It is something I have to do. It is like living in Hawaii Kai and never going to Waianae... or maybe sort of like that.
