It's nice to hear reports that Tim Chang plans to return to UH to complete work on a bachelor's degree. Unfortunately, for now, he won't be able to help the Warriors. Coach Greg McMackin said he has filled the four spots for undergraduate assistants and two spots for graduate assistants.

The people's choice

It doesn't matter whether you approve of Dana Takahara-Dias' hiring as Rainbow Wahine head coach.
What matters is, by most accounts, her players love to play for her.
What matters is her upcoming coworkers at UH celebrated her appointment.
What matters is that, for one day, pride had returned to a spiraling and puzzling program.
Takahara-Dias is a proven coach and educator.
Most important, she has a willingness to work with others, and a deep-rooted love for her alma mater.
Yesterday's news conference felt like a reunion. She knew everyone in the room by name,
People really like Takahara-Dias.
They're going to like her program.

Layne Boyer writes that there is a women's basketball booster club. She restarted it a year after it was disbanded following Bolla's hiring. My apologies.

While all three freshman quarterbacks are enrolled in Summer Session I, only Corey Nielsen participated in unsupervised workouts yesterday.
Nielsen is a dual student. Gahr High's academic year doesn't end for another two weeks. He will return to California to participate in the graduation ceremony. He is the valedictorian. He has a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
Punahou's Cayman Shutter participated in graduation rehearsals yesterday, and David Graves does not arrive in town until this weekend.

Michael Martin, a recent Saint Louis School graduate, is attempting to join the Warriors as a walk-on. He is a defensive back.

A British film crew is in town shooting footage of UH athletics for a documentary.

Anybody else think that if Memphis is forced to forfeit it 2007-2008 victories, everyone who participated in the 2008 NCAA Tournament office pool should be entitled to a refund?

So, I was wandering around UH this afternoon and I wandered into ... Dana Takahara-Dias.
Yes, she was on her way to an in-person interview with the selection committee for the next UH women's basketball coach.
These are the other confirmed candidates who have had in-person interviews:
• George Wolfe, a Kalani High graduate and former UH assistant coach.
• Gavin Petersen, Idaho State associate head coach and former UH assistant.
• Patrick Harrington, Colorado assistant coach.
• Joan Bonvicni, former Arizona coach.
• Mark Trakh, former USC coach.
• Jennifer Young, former UC Riverside coach.
• Jennifer Gross, UC Davis assistant coach.

Former UH running back Nate Ilaoa visited the coaches yesterday. There are discussions about finding a way for Ilaoa to help assist the Warriors this coming season. (Of this photo, Ilaoa said: "TMZ is in Hawai‘i?")

It's still spring, which means there's still time for spring cleaning. The first place to start is the athletic department offices. Is a carpet supposed to be two-toned?
