Not that UH should be looking too far into the future, but there's a quite an impressive prospect in Mililani.
Maa Tanuvasa Jr. is the son of the Circle of Honor member.
He also is 11.
"He's a defensive end," Maa Sr. said. "He's pretty big for his age."
Don't worry, the Tanuvasas are not even planning that far ahead. Heck, they haven't even pondered which high school Maa Jr. will attend in a couple of years.
"Right now, we're making sure he grows up all right and is a good person," Maa Sr. said.
As for what will happen in 2015, Maa Sr. said, "He can go anywhere he wants. But we'd definitely want him to go to here. My wife doesn't want him to go anywhere else."
Maa means "rock" in Samoan.
"He's the Pebble," Maa mused.

Joey Iosefa of Fagaitua High in American Samoa has decided to grayshirt with the Warriors.
By enrolling as a full-time student in January, Iosefa can participate in spring training, then still have five years to play four seasons.
Iosefa, who is 6 feet 1 and 190 pounds, is a candidate at quarterback, receiver and defensive back.

I think when the Warrior football players appearing on the "Warrior Show" are faced with "real interviews", like maybe with an NFL team's GM or maybe a job with the State of Hawaii they could look back at the show as kind of like prepping them.Or maybe as a stepping stone. And helping them in the job interview process. A lot of times a job interview might entail random like questioning, like the Warrior Show, and the more dry runs one has are only helpful. The benefits of being polished in an interview goes a long way. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if in the future ST relates (and posts) e-mails from former player appearing on the show thanking him that indeed the show's interview and Q&A did indeed help them in preparing for their "real job" interview.

The other guests (coaches, administrators, special guests like Curtis or Keith Amemiya) are excellent also and are appreciated...there are just so few weeks in the year to get to everyone!

Blood test will show DNA elements of cold beverages and plate lunch.
Therefore inaccurate readings.
Blood readings show only few elements.
Foreign elements show high readings of salt sugar etc.

Why fast?
By fasting, one is getting a baseline sugar and lipid value that is not influenced by a recent meal.
Also, diabetic and pre-diabetic looks at standard baseline which fasting provides.

ST, I think that they make you fast to see or to have an accurate sugar count. If you eat before testing your blood sugar level you would have abnormally elevated/high level. they want to know that you are processing the sugar or anything that turns into sugar after you ingest it, properly

Heart felt thanks again to Karl Kawachi (OP65) who came up with the ORIGINAL broadcast of the Wahine-Washington VB match from last year. I was devastated and frustrated with my failure to be able copy dvd's from the re-broadcast of the match aired a couple of weeks ago. It was a chance to contribute a little something that I knew the guys and gals playing in the sandbox would rock out on, and I was fumbling the ball. Until Karl responded to my call at the 11th hour. THANKS KARL!

tom.....it is true that the kalbi was one of the best i've had. tender and well marinated. sure went well with the all you can eat sushi.
pulling up the rear was kekoa who came in while most were done with dessert except for asports who was on her seconds, dessert that is. i think it was shaved ice w/strawberry syrup and a load of condensed milk.

This super athletic 13 year-old draws a lot of attention of the coaches at a certain clinic. The coaches are all anxious to have him attend their schools in a few years, but there is a new wrinkle -- the kid is a brain child who just graduated high school. He wasn't allowed to participate in high school football. When asked if he'd consider playing football down the road while he's projected to be in medical school, the kid drops a bombshell -- he's thinking of dropping out. It turns out that this past year, he proposed to a girl, who said she'd accept if he bought her a ring, and he agreed on the condition that she not look at other boys. He dumped her after she started getting pimples, and now no one will go near her. She is suing the boy for a zillion bucks.
Sound a little like Daniel Smith's case?

Nash has it made to reach his 18 game mandate- but Riley with 20 wins was never assured of an NCAA at large bid so why 18 games for a roll over.

Ralph - See that Ferd answered your request for revenue/expense info for the last fiscal year. I did a quick look and found some numbers (AD total budget) for last year, and a more detailed breakdown of 2006-7. I think you're right that Jason posted some numbers that he extracted from Kaleo, or some other UH info source.

Brew mbb profiting about $113K last year is sad, sad for the team, sad for UHAD, sad they expect us to buy season tickets with another crummy schedule- 7 of the 9 scheduled non conference teams finished with losing seasons last year. Last year if I remember correctly, 16 of 19 non conference teams we played ended with losing seasons...

For the record, I only had one shave ice. Koakane is the one who had TWO shave ice WITH condensed milk (and then went for slushies afterwards without me). He sweet-talked the lady who was making them, starting with "hellooooo....how you." I guess that explains why he had so much condensed milk on his.

It was good to see all of you at the CC at Tsukiji's, and to meet for the first time Ronnie and Wafan. Ralph... almost did not recognize you with the haircut but I am sure it feels better in our weather. As always, the food was good.

I ate nothing but sushi today. Well, and two pieces of cake for dessert. And three cups of tea. And a slush float from Byron's after. I probably could have eaten more, but I wasn't feeling all that well. Kinda disappointed now. No tempura, no galbi, no ramen.
Ralph: The thing about the schedule is that we have a history with the teams coming here. BYU and New Mexico are former WAC teams; Lamar, Chicago State, and Northwestern State have visited recently. Northern Colorado came over in football. Easier to get those teams to come here, because we have a relationship with them already.
It's easy to say we need to schedule better, but think about it from the other teams' perspective: Why the heck should they come here? It's a long road trip to a location with lots of distractions and the potential for a pretty hostile opposing court. The athletes are hampered academically when they travel here for such a long trip, and we can't offer a big guarantee to woo them here.
I'm sure we go after the top teams, but when we break out an upset like with Michigan State a few years ago, they aren't going to come here for a while. To me, this is a case of "beggars can't be choosers." All we can do is win against the teams we can schedule, parlay that into better recruiting, and build our reputation with consistent winning. Then again, that's easier said than done.

Jason if we turn to "beggars can't be choosers" lets drop the mbb program....if we can't get better quality teams to come, drop the mbb, but if it is because the coach can't get the teams to come or if the program is perceived to be too low a rated team to impact the opponents rpi, then I say change the coach and the culture at the Stanley...better talent, better quality wins, the fans and the opponents will come, go with 18 wins against teams with losing records will keep better teams away, no win situation, play a weak rpi team, worst if they lose to a low rpi team..

BYU and New Mexico are interesting opponents and should bring a decent-sized crowd to the Stanley. Other than that, another weak schedule, but as Jason noted, "beggars can't be choosers."

if you are willing to accept a program with a losing record playing teams coming to the Stanley with losing record then we should just drop bb, why would UH teeter on another program falling into red numbers. remember, mbb was only a +113K. with the cost of fuel and everything else going up, including out of state tuition, UH black numbers can easily dip into red numbers...

Not that men's basketball is a requirement for Division I, but if we're going to take that perspective, that we should just drop the program, then I don't think we should stay in Division I at all. It's a quitter's attitude. "We can't do anything good, so why even bother trying." To me, that is absolutely sickening. I'm not saying that we should tolerate losing, but the kind of apathy you are projecting because of two losing seasons is embarrassing.

Jason, you alone with Garret and Brew are numbers guys....what will our mbb projected attendance, estimated of course, to play teams with losing record on a Monday night and what would the game generate in income..how about if the game is on weekend...then do tell, what kind of revenue can we project for the year based on past performance and attendance...maybe JMxxxx can join in, statistics, her number games must have some feature to project revenue based on past performances- extrapolation figures, etc.

the task is to rebuild the fallen program.
18 plus wins per season would suite the locals well.
it could also put us in line for at least an nit slot.
the first requisite for a financially sound program is we need to average 7500 plus fans per outing.
to do such we have to schedule some teams that we have a better than average chance to win.
the wac should provide us with decent competition.
then we gotta build a solid team.
we will only attract low to mid level hs players, thats a fact of life for us because that is the kind of program that we are.
plucking players from the jc route and the foreign market is the way to recruit in hawaii. hopefully nash can discover the three year jc player now and then. and uncover a savo here and there.
why we don't recruit men basketballers from australia is beyond me.

According to Ferd's 2/20/09 article, if UH cut men's basketball then they would be kicked out of D-IA or the WAC or both. Either result would mean the end for football at UH and would result in UH dropping out of D-IA. So, cutting men's basketball is NOT an option!
If you look into the revenue provided by conferences, a HUGE portion of that is the payout from the NCAA men's basketball tournament TV money. That is based on games played in the NCAA basketball tournament...unfortunately, WAC teams haven't done that well on a consistent basis, which really hurts the bottom line for all conference members

I thought that men's basketball was a requirement for Division I, but I can't actually find anything that says that specifically. That said, I can't think of a school in Division I football that doesn't offer men's basketball. I'm doing research on that to double-check.

lots of Serbs and Russians are making it to U.S. campuses in lots of sports, maybe a fertile ground for recruits...how come these athletes make it to other campuses without a problem, come here and it takes forever to clear them or we get into trouble with their eligibility issues..maybe Amanda needs help

I think I posted an article that said that Alabama had more than 8 compliance people, plus their compliance people had assistants. Basically, they have more compliance people just dedicated to football than UH has for all sports.
Hard to clear athletes fast and keep up with everything when the compliance group is so small...and adding people would increase the budget. Also, transfer class delays and other problems are for ALL students at the University, not just athletes. We hear about the athletes who have processing delays, but we don't hear about how that happens with so many other UH students also.

Hasn't UH already offered a number of the All-Poly Camp participants? It seems that UH has a lot of offers out right now, so maybe a few more went out during the camp but the primary targets that were at the camp were probably already offered. If UH doesn't get those players, I'm sure that a number of other players at the camp might get offers...but UH doesn't have that many spaces left with the number of commits and grayshirts already.

Yeah, there is no university that offers Division I-A or I-AA football that does not play Division I men's basketball. Whether or not it is a set requirement—and while I couldn't find specific proof from NCAA documents, there are a lot of rules, so I wouldn't doubt that such a rule exists—even then, it still just isn't done.
