It's a big recruiting weekend for UH. A player whose initials are Joshua Quezada is expected to visit.
* * * * *
Brashton Satele's family has started working on an appeal to allow him to play as a sixth-year senior. It should be a slam dunk. He did not play as a freshman because of a variety of reported injuries. He has missed this season after suffering a shoulder injury in training camp. Then again, when dealing with appeals, the process is never quick.

Happy birthday to Pauoa Boy.

Morning all!
November 13th, 2009 at 9:30 am
almost first.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:30 am
Happy berfday, Pauoa Boy!!! We'll see you soon!
November 13th, 2009 at 9:31 am
i didnt know Joshua and Quezada were initials.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:32 am
so last week, two girls joined us for their first game/tailgate ever. yup, they got hooked on the tsaiko warrior experience, if anybody not going to the game tomw let me know.
got tickets?
November 13th, 2009 at 9:33 am
Joshua Quezada! Saw his videos. He can block, catch, run north-south, east-west, juke, and tackle ... What an asset he could be to the Warriors!
ALOHA Joshua "JUICE' Quezada! Welcome to Hawaii!!
November 13th, 2009 at 9:33 am
letsgo....i think they were spelled out for some who would have been banging their heads all day trying to figure out who JQ is. i can think of a few but won't publicly embarass them here.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:34 am
al,
I liked Linkletter's show, Kids Say The Darndest Things! I'm sure I'll keep entertaining as I'm still learning. I just like watching & yelling.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:35 am
mih....try another nickname. every time i hear "juice" i think of that former usc running back who used to run through the airports. i don't his mama wants him to be named after that guy.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:36 am
happy birthday pauoa boy!
you da man!
November 13th, 2009 at 9:39 am
al,
'JUICE' is the nickname on his website.. http://www.athletesquest.com/josh/
November 13th, 2009 at 9:40 am
Al, we all know you're the king of hype when it comes to recruits.
I see you on the other boards as well. Kinda creepy with the facination with recruits.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:41 am
slugger....haha.
now, everytime i see a running back breakaway down the sidelines i'll be wondering if the defender is zeroing in on the guy or just estimating.
anyway, if the defensive back keeps missing the tackle he could get a job as an insurance claims adjuster or the local body and fender shop.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Getting Brashton our QB of the defense back for 2010 would be huge.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Hey recruits, why not place in paradise. We love our football. Go Warriors.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:43 am
play ................... God I hate when I do that. lol
November 13th, 2009 at 9:44 am
pal....haha.
if there is one thing that most fans enjoy besides how we won the game. i think recruiting news brings out the excitement for the majority of the fans.
i think i can say that i am not alone on this.
at least you know i am who i am.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:44 am
lava....do you get excited over recruit news?
November 13th, 2009 at 9:47 am
I think our secondary will be more solid next season since RS Freshmen CB's Ornellas and Walker have seen lots of playing time this season. Would have liked to have seen Steven Christian play this season.
Too bad we lose Tonga and Wadsworth to missions. Hopefully Mana Silva and Spencer Smith keep improving.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:51 am
Coach Mack recently said that they are looking for another WR playmaker in the mold of Rodney Bradley. Any potential recruits that fit this description?
I hope the coaches are looking at how well a big-body slot like Greg Salas is doing in this offense. Goes to show that we can have big production from a tight-end like slot who isn't a traditional tight-end.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:51 am
Perhaps one of the most interesting recruits we have/had is Ray Hisatake. Considering he never played football till JC... never played offense till he got to UH.. AND with this being his first year starting ... it's a wonder we don't hear his name more often (.i.e... missed blocks, off-sides, personals ...etc.)
Too bad he doesn't have another year.
Good Job RAY!
November 13th, 2009 at 9:54 am
mih...you went on your his website?
wow.
careful some folks will think you creepy with your fascination of recruits.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:55 am
I think it's great that Al is on top of recruiting news.
Hey, it's a huge industry now.
It's like the college version of NFL draft news.
Al's our Mel Kiper Jr.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:57 am
By the way, I guess Al has a fan.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:58 am
J-Dog:
UH was really fortunate to get Salas.
He didn't come from a heavily recruited school.
And he was recruited as defensive back.
JJ knows what he's doing.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:59 am
jdog....another hot rod bradley would be nice. perhaps one from the hs level. that castle hs kid kehano looks like a player.
and then we need to go find a bunch of corners and safeties.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:59 am
al,
You know me.... I AM creepy. But I was born this way, I dunno what everyone else's excuse is, though.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:59 am
What's a shame is that UH never got to use the inside routes it planned for Salas last year. Salas was supposed to motion into the slot. They practiced that all last year, but never ran it.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Word on the street is UH is recruiting the Kahuku kicker.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Yes Al, I love recruiting. I follow it pretty closely.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:00 am
wait....st.
at least i have my own hair.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:03 am
I think you could put a pretty fair team together with guys just walking around campus. There are a bunch of guys that look like good athletes. How I decipher that from them walking to class I have no idea.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:03 am
it is about time that we went to the north shore. that surfer boy from the mainland is the real deal. he could be our starting kicker right now.
plus he is tough. he's made some tackles on kickoffs. he's also a dual threat kicker, if you will. his punting is decent and with work.....?
November 13th, 2009 at 10:04 am
What is the latest on Beaver?
November 13th, 2009 at 10:04 am
Good morningTsaiko's,
one more day to go UH bb tonight and Warrior football tomorrow what a great weekend! I wonder if Blaze can qualify for a medical redshirt it seems like he took the Nate Ilaoa route to get on the field maybe he'll have on season left any word Stephen?
November 13th, 2009 at 10:05 am
and it was jj who got ray and made him an olineman the day he saw him run around at practice.
i think ray gets a free agent tryout somewhere.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:05 am
......and with work ..... we could screw him all up by telling him to aim for the 2 yard line out of bounds. lol
November 13th, 2009 at 10:07 am
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PB!!!
We know you're out there and we haven't forgotten you! See you real soon...

Happy Birthday Pauoa Boy!
November 13th, 2009 at 10:52 am
Speaking of recruiting...
surprising news from the HHSAA.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Didn't we get a verbal from one of Quezada's teamates I think he was a linebacker, hopefully he can help us land this kid, I haven't had the chance to watch his film yet but I know we've been looking at him since his junior year so hopefully we were able to forge a relationship, and recruiting is the next best thing to a win especially if we win the game and recruiting battle extra bonus.
November 13th, 2009 at 10:55 am
Hi, it's jojo again. I missed coconut trees and dim sum? Shucks!!!

November 13th, 2009 at 11:02 am
Is it usually the case that the student-athlete (or his family) would initiate the process for an appeal for a sixth year of eligibility?

Cheers to our Running game hitting another full stride against the Aggies.

Happy B-day PB
Thank you for your service!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
garret, now you get me wondering if our coaches know what to do with 5 or 6 in a box. me, i would just slowly drink it all. hahahahaaaaaaa
November 13th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
just sitting on the sidelines wondering, what will the warriors do, win the game or try to impress a recruit???
November 13th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Congrats to the Wahines for another win on the road. Looked at the Boise stats, but did not see Brittany's sis name, so assume she is a redshirt.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
al:
I like recruiting also; i get excited; just because; put me down as another follower!!
and, i resemble the "initials" feeble minded fan who quickly forgets who is being recruited by UH, their name/no less their initials, but I really support the Warriors!!! had to say that cause you were pointing your finger at me - har, har, de har matey!!!!
any kind of recruiting news for Hawaii gets me excited as each year the recruits seem to be better student athletes and we get to cheer them in whatever sport they choose.
i agree that the kicker/punter at Kahuku seems to be a good find - kind of a good feel story of a young man from Florida who searched the web and discovered that Kahuku needed a kicker/punter - his Dad came over with him while Mom runs the family business in ---------------, ah shucks, i porgot name of city. hey, maybe they live near Florida Ted?
speaking of punters - if Dunnachie feels out of place punting with his complete uniform, I would make him practice with his total uniform every day to become accustomed to the "feel" as the WAC/NCAA will not allow him to play without a helmet - wonder how much the "uni" affects his effectiveness as he never wore US football gear until now!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
the front line blocking and hitting of the Wahines is getting better and this should truly help them. Way to go!!!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Carried over from the last blog:
Word on the political street is that Keith Amemiya is going to be the head guy in Mufi's campaign for Governor with the expectation of getting a major position in the new Hannemann Administration come December, 2010 - assuming that Mufi wins both the Primary over Abercrombie and the General over Aiona.
************
The next three+ weeks are filled with UH sports - men's and women's basketball, men's volleyball against Stanford, Wahine softball this afternoon, football, and the WAC women's volleyball tournament in Las Vegas following their wins tomorrow and Monday against Idao & Utah State. And don't forget the football banquet on Sunday, December 6.
BTW - Are there any plans to watch the final WAC tournament match at a local food & beverage establishment?
November 13th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Col, i can see your army recruits going thru basics training with just their undies, then go to the front with full pack. hahahahaaaaaa
November 13th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
whitey:
enjoy your trip, but no forget to come back!!
da wahines goin try to keep yoo dere!!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Col, on the serious side, doesn't basic fb tell you to wear full pads when practicing, so you get used to it and it feels natural????
November 13th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Col, no worry, fishing in alaska is more important.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
whitey:
no full pack, just the undies, that should throw off the enemy!!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
wassup doc, for personal reason wouldn't vote for either of them. would prefer someone else like c say.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
whitey:
best I recall, Dunnachie always practiced punting without his helmet - even before game and 3rd qtr.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Col, now i can see it, run with your undies, when you see the enemy, moon them, they fall on the ground laughing so damn hard, then you capture them. i'll bet s tzsu neva have that in his war strategy book.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Col, so if he is having problems with punting, no can blame the helmet, but if he is blaming the helmet, then coaches not doing their job.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Capitol -ist/WassupDoc: pls. check your email.
Hauoli Lahanau, Pauoa Boy and safe home soon!!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Col, even the nfl punters practice with their helmets on. to this day, i cannot recall ever seeing what ray guy's face looks like, but always remember his punting with full uni and having a high finish to his punts.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Shoots! Can't go to the football banquet on the 6th due to auntie's birthday party.
K, outta here...Esme (Where are you, girl?) and out....
November 13th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Whitey: Come next fall, I expect to vote None Of The Above - leaving the puka blank both in the Primary and the General. I stopped voting for the Least Worst after the 1996 election.
Keith Amemiya will definitely be missed by folks who support local high school sports.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
wassup doc, yes, will truly miss k amemiya, a true gentleman. he has done so much for the kids and i think he will still be active in that regards, but he now will take care of his family and probably have more great times with them. Thank you Mr Amemiya!!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
i want to thank our tsaiko family for their generosity. i have had game ticket offers, but due to "circumstances" will not be able to attend. thank you gang.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:01 pm

November 13th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
What UH needs is a couple of big defensive lineman. Kids around 6'4" or taller and about 280 lbs. for the tackles and about 6'4", 250 for the ends. We have to get back to the old days when Bob Wagner and Doug Kay were the defensive coordinators and how the UH's defense was a force to be reckoned with. I would love to have UH get back to those rock em sock em days when defense stirred the fire for the fans to get so excited. We also need guys like Semeri Ulufale to fuel the special teams. I also missed the days when UH blocked punts and an occasional muddle huddle, the reverse, double reverse, flea flicker, a half back pass, etc. Now, we don't see any of that. Can you imagine the possibilities if we had a really outstanding defense. With the kind of offense that we have to have the potential to score a lot of points, a great defense to complement that would spell dominate. Surely, we would be in the top 25 if not the top 15. Even the 2007 unbeaten 12-0 team did not have a dominating defense, but they rose to the occasion when they needed to. You need a really good defense to win on the road and win championships. Wish list: Jamora changes his mind from BYU and signs w/ Hawaii. Also, the Kahuku kicker, Mercado, likes it here and I hope he sticks around to play for Hawaii too. Fehoko and Akuna signs w/ Hawaii and Quezada signs w/ Hawaii too. That's what I want for Xmas.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Doug Kay, now that's the name I was looking for. That guy had it g-o-i-n-g when he was at UH as the defensive coordinator. Watching us on edfense was sometimes more fun than watching us on offense.
Doug Kay...what happened to that guy. Was Rich Ellerson also in the mix back then?
November 13th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Brashton- hope to see you ON THE FIELD NEXT YEAR!!!
Woo Hoo!
November 13th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
I agree with recruiting stellar DTs, they form the heart of our D. I would also add DEs too. Recruit legit DEs that can hold the line and protect our run perimeter. No telling what John Fonoti could have been as an OLB.
November 13th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
The recent 300+ yard romp should help with Joshua Quezada
November 13th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
If Haisak diffences with teammates at UCLA concerns degrading remarks about Hawaii, maybe he should consider transferring. Just a thought.
November 13th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
reference kicking in uniform
azngamer808 learned to kick on the baseball field at Aiea High School
kicking over the backstop to encourage his place kicks would have high elevation and not get blocked
however
once he put on the helmet for the first time,
he was so off balance that he took a flop on the okole
November 13th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Tuipulotu will be eligible next year. Looking forward to seeing him in the middle of the DL.
November 13th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
reference kicking in uniform 2
#2 son was the only player I ever saw who would kick-off wearing knee braces. Usually would kick for touchbacks.
He even did placekicks in JV that way.
Coaches couldn't figure out how he did it, just stopped asking...
November 13th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
right now, with the verbals that we have committed i'd go on a limb and say that charles tua'au at 6'4" 290 lbs will be the impact player from this class.
and while many are touting that vj fehoko guy, for me, from what i have seen, farrington's best prospect is a year away from graduating. that would be a fellow who's initials are justin vele, a linebacker.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
lil
if got football tix i know some who would want them.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
al,
No nap?
November 13th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Howzit Everybody,
Al agree with your #95,
Charley Tua'au will definitely be one the impact player on the defesive side of the ball in this recruiting class. The boy has a motor and plays with a nasty streak. Have watched alot of his games this year and I have to say that even though he does not have the star backing, he is the real deal. He will make a very good D-1 DT and might even get a shot at the next level if he can live up to his potential.
The boy is a beast.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
is that me?
November 13th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
WOW, got an email from classmate to look at an article by Wes Nakama. I'll be danged if his family is not from McGerrow Camp in Puunene. I not sure who his dad is, but I know George "Whitey" Nakama. I used to hunt with kapay nakamura. What a small world. For those who like history, look at Wes's article "Baban" in the Advertiser.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
another famous Nakama is also from Puunene, just a few houses away from my parent's home in the old days. Name, Keo Nakama.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
al: think i still got em... our familys seats but dad(lk),mom, bro is out of town this weekend. he's gonna get back to me later on if anything.
email me and i'll keep in touch. I'll have at most 3 tickets.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
mbb signs a 6'4 guard, Jordan Coleman, from Calabasas HS. Four more scholarships available for next year recruiting class. I think Nash needs a few wide, big bodies for the #4 & #5 positions. Amis graduates or fulfills his eligibility this season. Flemings will be finished with his bb here.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
i love the HA blog with Wes Nakama. i tell Wes that I truly enjoyed his article and it brings back many memories and what does the blog say, my post is under moderation. i'll try to remember that if i try to say anything good about ST next time. hahahahaaaaa

November 13th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
tomorrow's game. what to look for on offense (1) salas receiving over 100 yds (2) rb green 100 yds rushing (3) no sacks by nmsu d and (4) 1 int by warriors. what to look for on defense (1) 4 qb sacks (2) total rush by nmsu less than 100 yds (3) 2 int and (4) 1 td or safety.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
porgot, i fg by new UH kicker.
November 13th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Ray Guy camp helped azngamer808 become automatic from 40 yards
Peter Kim (Yummy's, Lahaina Chicken, Liliha Bakery) helped getting more distance
note from Ray Guy Camp...they had no idea why Justin Ayat went to camp($500 plus airfare, hotel, car rental)...he didn't want to listen to anything being taught
November 13th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
chop, i guess get plenty of kids who just want to say they went to this camp or that camp, but neva tell the truth about what they were suppose to learn. i think this is not uncommon in most sports camp.
November 13th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
same for coaches who go to clinics to learn, but don't because their egos are bigger than life!!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
My goodness! What a bunch of creepy Tsaikos gettin' all interested in new recruits. What do they think this is? A college football team or something?
November 13th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
great game on espn2 but a controversial td call went to cinn after officials on the field ruled a fumble on the WV 1. replay officials reversed the fumble and gave the bearcats a td.. it was a terrible call by replay officials. cinn is in the hunt for the national title game, juice? espn pundits think so.
game istied at 14-14 at the half.
November 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
That's promising...there's a rainbow over Manoa...
GO BOWS!!!
GO WARRIORS!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
dpk, sorry about missing you on the blog. anyway, hope you and your family are enjoying a great friday and the weekend will be one of great joy.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Have high hopes for the hoops team this weekend. Really want to see Williams and Lay play well for Nash. Go Bows! We'll see on Monday what we have this year. Peace out.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Whitey...
I say.. Pilares gets more balls his way tomorrow.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
Here's hoping for a good and injury-free night for the bballers and softballers tonight!
November 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
From SH forum's Palolo cruza
"Rod Gilmore Just picked (with 'H' logo) Greg Salas as his college fantasy player of the week. ."
November 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
mih, could be. actually, i more interested to see how both the d and o perform as a team. the others is just bonuses. they performed well as a team last week, but now can they improve on that??? they can, but will they???? this also includes the coaches.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
T-GATERS,
BG and I got confirmation for a special visit at tomorrow's tgate.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Whitey,
Also look for punk usher(s) to wake up hating life and taking it out on others!
November 13th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Re: Wahine volleyball WAC Banners.
For those interested, apparently the timing of our inquires couldn't have been better. According to those in the know, there are some things taking place to see what can be done.
Stay tuned.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Tom Mui and 808ike,
I sent you emails.

I don't know if UH should accept Hasiak as a transfer if he leaves UCLA. You gotta think twice if he has a bad attitude getting in fights with his teammates in practice or scrimmages. Our program doesn't need something like that. Down the road if we accept him you have to wonder if he's going to get things like personal fouls and things like that. The coaches had better do a good job of making sure the kid is right for our program. It conjures the past problems w/ Keenan Jones, Terry Whitaker, and a talented wide receiver (who escapes his name right now) who was ejected from the game on the first play of the game against USC and was never heard from him after that and left the team.

So, off I go.... GO BOWS!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Derek,
I agree. And that's what makes recruiting such a tricky business. The coaching staff needs to dig through everything ... figure out if a kid will blend in nicely with the existing staff, players and program before offering a scholie. They also need to balance their projected needs with the number of available schollies and athletes interested. It can't be easy on a limited budget under a equally limiting time constraint. Especially when you have to do it all from here in the middle of the Pacific.
Meanwhile, we fans might complain and wonder why so and so wasn't offered a scholie long after the coaches have done their homework and moved on.

This article shows the HUGE incentive that the US military has to go green. The US currently uses 22 gallons of fuel per day for each soldier in Afghanistan, and each gallon costs between $300 and $400! Driving the fuel to the isolated bases in Afghanistan makes US troops vulnerable to deadly IED attacks.

Some shaky moments in the basketball game. Slow second half start.. maybe they need to come out early and warm up, too. Lay reminded me of AC at times. Bill Amis was sorely missed... but the end result was good.

wvb USC over #4 Washington in five, Penn State over #5 Illinois, and LSU over # 10 Florida. UCLA plays Washington tomorrow. Interesting to dwell on UH seeding with the pac 10 beating up each other and Florida, a regional host, not the top banana in the SEC.

Who is the VIP? We're picking up Liz at the airport around 2:45 - assuming she leaves on time - so we won't arrive at Cabana B until close to 3 pm. Are you talking about Jim Donovan? Don Weir?
We also need to be thinking about helping with the gifts for the 2009 Wahine volleyball team. The 2008 team didn't get theirs until last weekend.
Congrats to Chawan - he "caught" a freebie tee-shirt at tonight's men's basketball game.
Although I recognized two of the four players sitting on the bench in street clothes - Kurtz and Amis - does anyone here know the names of the other two? One was wearing a black or very dark green long-sleeved shirt and the other a white hoody.
Unless the bachi police are out in full force, the 2009-2010 men's baseball team is definitely not going to be a cellar dweller. Our two new guards must have been cheetahs in a previous life - they were everywhere!! However, Balocka still needs to work on his free throws.
After a commanding lead at the half, it was very discomfitting to watch the first 8+ minutes of the second half. UH scored 3 points plus produced mucho turnovers; however, after Southern Utah went ahead briefly, the thundering herd came back to life and made it clear who was the boss.
Hopefully the rain will stop soon. Will be dropping off a table, some chairs, and an extra tent if needed plus recycling stuff as early as possible and then it's back to work until 2 pm or so.

Re: the article in this morning's paper on Coach Mac's salary. When is The Advertiser going to stop beating a dead horse. Coach Mac's salary is what it is.
If you keep writing about it and putting it on the front page, it will create more attention to more people who had no interest in the topic. But now they do and jump on the "haters" bandwagon.
If the paper keeps writing about how bad things are, people will believe it.
Is this the type of "corporate partner" that UH wants?

The days of getting to the 60's are long gone and will not return until sometime next March. Still, I would rather have the cold than the heat. Always can put on clothing. There is only so much that can be removed before someone starts to laugh. HA!

November 14th, 2009 at 6:38 am
Wafan,
I am the opposite. Someone had a great invention of creating clothing
and could make money selling it. She/he marketed the product well
and this is what we do today. Wear clothes.

It is definitely cruel and inhumane for you folks to talk about all the yummy foods that will be at the T-Gate. Some of us have to suffer in near silence (only because you cannot hear our screams and whimpering) over the internet; but, we can whine about it.
