Family reunion
By Stephen Tsai
Linebacker Cory Daniel and offensive lineman Clint Daniel hopes to have company at UH. Their younger twin brothers — Cody and Christopher, each 6 feet 5 — are attending Windward Community College with the intent of transferring to Manoa this summer.
Meanwhile, Cory Daniel, who missed the 2009 season because of pneumonia, said he is working to get into better shape. Cory took the scenic route to Manoa, competing as an MMA fighter and then attending junior college. He was 270 pounds when he moved back to Hawaii last year, and 255 when he reported to training camp. After incurring pneumonia — he traces it to to the dusty, musty conditions of living in the dance studios during training camp — Cory dropped to 210 pounds. He said he now weighs 230, but is "not as healthy" as he desires. "I'm going to do some new things to get healthier," he said.

One of the forgotten players is Steve Christian, who underwent surgery to repair a labrum tear last summer. The trainers are being cautious, and he might sit out contract drills in spring training. But he should be ready for training camp. Christian is big, fast and smart (he once aspired a career in neurosurgery).

To understand the ebb and flow of college recruiting, a year ago, the Warriors' wish list was this:
• John Timu, QB/DB, Jordan High — All-State playmaker suffered season-ending ACL injury in September.
• Soma Vainuku, LB, Eureka High — He signed with USC.
• Joshua Quezada, RB, La Habra High — He signed with BYU.
• Alani Fua, OLB, DE, Oaks Christian — He verbaled to BYU in August.
• David Lefotu, OL, Pearl City High — He verbaled to UH in September.

Whoo-hoo!!! It has been awhile.

Lots of nasty things flying at the Manoa Hilton...maybe time to rethink the situation?
February 15th, 2010 at 8:59 am
Looks like a good cleaning and repairs might be in order for the dance studio. Along with the rest of the campus and facilities.
February 15th, 2010 at 9:01 am
Sorry PowderPuff....the Manoa Hawaiian Village!
February 15th, 2010 at 9:08 am
JJ. came up with the idea of using the dance studios because 1) the dorm they had used was under renovations, 2) to save money (yes, for some reason, they were being charged rent at the time).
But now the dorms are available.
I think if it's a bonding experience to stay in the dance studios, then everybody should stay there — trainers, equipment managers, coaches, administrators.

Hurrah for the Daniel 'ohana!

Anyone else think it's ironic that a French judge issued an international arrest warrant for Floyd Landis?
France is one of the few countries that doesn't extradite criminals. So, now they want help?
Hey, France didn't want to give up Roman Polanski, U.S. shouldn't give up an accused computer-hacking cyclist.

By the way, we've reached a tentative agreement with the NFL's best third-down receiver to appear on tomorrow's show.
It the deal is finalized, you're all welcome to attend the taping. (Hey, at least if you show up the interview .... won't .....pause ..... or skip.)
February 15th, 2010 at 9:17 am
Good morning, Tsaikos!
If a dorm is now available, perhaps a move back to the dorms is appropriate. But you need to find out from the team if staying together in the dance studio REALLY does foster team bonding. If so, clean the studios well before the team moves in, and clean it well after the team moves out. Wouldn't want the dancers picking up athletes' foot...
February 15th, 2010 at 9:24 am
Coolio!
I bet his training camp accomodations are quite different now!
...not much bonding happening around the whirlpool tub there either!
February 15th, 2010 at 9:29 am
With the recruits and the possibility of folks like the brothers mentioned above, that young man from UA at a local CC possibly joining the Warriors, one would have to say that Warrior Nation is looking quite nice.
It would be just a HUGE boost if Mack's Attack rounds out to be the best in the WAC. Take nothing away from the "O", but Hawaii fans loves it's unrelenting, fear producing defense. We remember great catches, but memories of Mr. Noga forcing a certain visiting team to have to change QBs because he knocked out a couple during the course of a game, still burn fresh (with embellishments as time goes on).
The new football year looks to possibly be exciting.

France does extradite people. They are just particular about it. They typically will not extradite their own citizens. You will note that we don't often do that either.
February 15th, 2010 at 10:00 am
Wow! Flashback time on the retro-channel.
Reminded me of the olden-days when that huge and awesome sounding Farrington band would heat up Honolulu Stadium with the lower brass and percussion sections pumping out the rhythm of the Peter Gunn Theme. And, the visual of the student cheering section doing the hand-jive in unison.

Wanted to thank you for the SB reports and thoughts! Did you notice if the strategy changed from the first game and the Wahine did more running (steals, et al)?
February 15th, 2010 at 10:21 am
Kazz
Also, what changed for Ricketts from her first two games to the last Stanford game? Getting ahead on the count? What do you think was the change in the Stanford pitcher (Chinn?) from the first to the second game? How did the Wahine adjust?
February 15th, 2010 at 10:21 am
I saw the stats. Zero steal attempts this year.

Good morning everyone!
Yes, having training quarters together in a large area like the dance studio facilitates general bonding. It is a toned down version of this with many parallels to off-season work, camp, teamwork, and "team rules"...

Hmmmmmm, somethings up with UH football with so many former "local" athletes returning to play for the home team.
Is the word out that Coach Mack's defense will "mature" this year and bring on the "heat" to opponents? That the offense will be more creative in play calling?
That playing for the "home team" is a good thing - pride, bruddah hood, feel good, show others that UH will be a team to reckon with - and, maybe a large step to another BCS invite in the very near future!
The can proudly say, I AM HAWAII!!

BG Coolen didn't use the bunt to move runners in the games I watched. Rarely sacrified, attempted once, missed, Puu Warren had to hit away. I can't remember anyone else attempting a bunt or sacrifice. Chinn was herself, lots of heat, 8 Ks, but with heat, if you time it, it goes a long way.
UH hit 8 homers in two games, lots of runs, but can UH live off the home runs. I don't think so, lots of pop ups in their losses and the Stanford games, not a lot of quality solid hits to the outfield. Bouncers over the pitcher or deep short-Chinn deflected two of the hits. Taualii had a double over the first base bag. As Kazz mentioned, the next two tournaments on the mainland will be a bear, lots of talented teams on the schedule.
February 15th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Happy Presidents' Day, everyone! Great to hear about the Daniel brothers...study hard and see you at Manoa, the Manoa Hawaiian Village, right d1?
Looking forward to the Grand Slam tonight, and the start of baseball season too.

Hey, work gave me a new phone.
Or, at least, I think it's a phone.
Is a Droid a phone? Or a robot?
Anyway, my new work cell number is: (808) 754-8179. It's Verizon, so you can call me on that.
Or if you have T-Mobile, you may call me still on (808) 256-0223.
February 15th, 2010 at 1:24 pm
Congrats, ST. You got a nice link from Matt Terl on the Redskins Blog!
Hi Ho!
February 15th, 2010 at 1:27 pm
Ohhhh Droid. Cool.
February 15th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
I think of the "Star Wars" when I hear ,"droid." Do you like the phone, ST? I need to check yours out one of these days, even though I'm a BlackBerry fan.
February 15th, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Cool ST. About time they gave you a phone. Be careful though. My cuz, an Episcopal priest, once did a sermon on how the his new Droid was controlling his life. I think he had the congregation rolling in the aisles.
You're really gonna carry around 2 phones? Is blog-related stuff considered work?
February 15th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Like ST and Ralph pointed out in the stats, no steal attempts which kinda disappointed me, but it's like in football. When there was mention of attempting to go under center in our R&S offense, it was scrapped because we FIRST needed to run the base R&S out of shotgun. Back to the "basics" of our offense. In a sense I compare it to that. I can only assume Coolen would have called for more steals or for more small ball play on the first night (loss against McNeese State) had our batters handled that pitcher's risers well enough to create enough confidence to use our "weapons". Speedy girls like Buchanan, Tagab-Cruz, Majam, Iwata, Aguirre, etc... are all capable enough to run with the best of them out there.
I could of sworn I saw or read somewhere in the preseason that Coolen wanted to encorporate more steal attempts this season, but I could be mistaken.
I mentioned immediately after the opening loss that I would find it hard to imagine for Ricketts to have another game like that in the future and so far she didn't.
As we eventually saw, there was no reason Xs and Os-wise that McNeese State should have beaten us. As a team and individually I think they just needed to acclimate back to that gameday mentality and just trust in their individual abilities and trust in each other. Amanda Taualii said the same thing after the win against Stanford. Pitching wise, barring injury, we'll be fine. Even though I wasnt able to make the games freshman Kaia Parnaby started and won, sounds like she's making the transition from HS ball to D1 college ball well and only time will tell how consistant she will be. Coolen doesn't like over-using a pitcher even though you can get away with it for the most part in D1 college fast pitch so it must be a great weight off the shoulders of the entire team to know they've got another good one in Parnaby, plus Gonzalez is healthy this season and while Rodriguez has struggled in the outfield, she can pitch. Rodriguez throws a heavy ball with some "stank".
But getting back to Ricketts, as hard of a night as she had against McNeese State, little things like her body language remained pretty good then again, even last season you could never really see her get down on herself. If anything if she struggles, you can see her just trying to work through it as best as possible and that is all you can ask for. Even though she is only a sophomore, it seems like she serves as another source of inspiration and guidance for her fellow pitchers on how to live in the moment and just deal with adversity without losing your composure and letting the other team see that you are about to lose it. You cannot give the enemy a "taste" of your fear. There is nothing wrong with being scared or down, just don't let others see it and eventually it will work itself out within yourself.
About Stanford's ace, like Ralph said, Stanford's pitcher is truly an "ace", but a promising sign for us is that what could happen to a pitcher like Chinn, did happen. Our ladies saw it live on Friday night and applied what they saw the next night.
Overall, like ST said, get power on this team. But to add to what Ralph mentioned, I too do not think they can live off of home runs. I don't know too many D1 programs that can do that and only that anyway. I mean, if they can, they can, but we'll see how the hitting holds up in the next few weeks on the road against BIG challenges like Georgia Tech, Oregon, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.
HiFlyer was practically "praying" at times in the championship game against Stanford, "just get a base hit". The projected big time hitters on this team Kelly Majam and Amanda Taualii were effective off their singles, doubles, and triples. There was the over-whelming feeling that all of our ladies were looking to just "crush" balls all day long like in slow-pitch style, but we cannot do that all year long.
Of course I know already that I am saying nothing that the coaching staff isn't already thinking.
But as easy as it is for me to sit here and say that a combination of small ball attempts and power hitting looks like the key to a WAC championship and a regional appearance. Our pitching looks good so far and other than some cleaning up at SS and LOF, our defense looks capable too as on Friday night we held Stanford to 2 runs even though they out hit us 6-1.
The leadership is taking hold (i.e. Grimes' communication with the pitchers, Taualii managing the infield troops, and even freshman Majam commanding her outfield teammates) and when they play "loose" they are at their best.
It's a long season and I think it's going to be a fun year at the softball stadium!
February 15th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
The Droid for Verizon is a SICK piece of tech. I tried it out at the store and it's very good. The OS is better that what my blackberry runs on.
However, VZW has this "New Every 2" program where every two years I can get a device upgrade with a $100.00 discount PLUS whatever instore or online rebates are available for the phone I want. So that's like $150.00 off my new phone.
So I gotta wait until October and by then the Droid or even the Blackberry Storm 2 will be obsolete and something new and "beastly" will be available.
February 15th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
My fortune cookie told me: "Today will be lucky and memorable for you".
Hmmm... not sure what's supposed to go down at tonight's Grand Slam Celebration but I guess I should expect something???
AHHHHHHH!!! This is my first year going to this and it should be fun!
Anyone else going? I'm meeting up with Chawan and Midori tonight.

ST,
I think you'll love your new phone. It's gonna be your preference though if you'll prefer the actual keyboard or the touchscreen one in landscape mode.
February 15th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
PowderPuff,
I think you may convert from RIM to HTC if you see the Droid.
For me, while I know the Droid has a better OS than RIM/blackberry I'm too used to my blackberry to change. At my ripe old age of 27 I cannot adapt to change anymore!!!
Like they say, "nice place to visit, but wouldn't wanna live there"...
February 15th, 2010 at 2:13 pm

February 15th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
OH! You mean K5???
February 15th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
yup
February 15th, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Just realized, McNeese State won one game in the tournament, beat UH 2-1 and finished with a 1-4 record. In both of her losses, Ricketts did not have hitting/run scored support. Big difference pitching with a lead or your hitters banging away, instead she sat watching her hitters swinging in the night's air, 11 Ks against McNeese and 10 against Stanford in her losses.
February 15th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Read that 2 of Stanford's players made the US national team roster this past summer.
Chinn tallied 18 Ks in the 13 and 1/3 innings she pitched against UH. Her risers weren't high enough in location to start with, UH usually chased balls around their shoulder level.
February 15th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
March 6, UDub, last year's National champs come to town to play the Na Wahine in sb. Danielle Lawrie finished the season 42-8, named national POY.
February 15th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
Ralph,
I dunno if you saw my late night post overnight, but we were trying to figure out how many schollies NCAA D1 womens softball has and it's 12.
Not sure if can split them though.
February 15th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
Did. not. know. this. Hope this leads to more events at the SSC. UH sure could use the money
February 15th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Braddah Paipai,
You know how much gas costs now???
Nah, drive safe and DRIVE BEEEEEEGGGGGG!!!
February 15th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
JM,
I did not know the SSC wasn't "allowed" to host commercial events since it's inception.
Kinda stupid yeah?
What the hell was the intention of it? Since the late Stan Sheriff fought the legislature to build it, did they try to stick it to him by saying "ok fine we'll build it, but let's see it draw crowds for UH only since you're bugging us"???
But seriously, the Blaisdell is a piece of garbage. The backstage areas are a joke and shameful.
Outside visitors like bands and arena events like MMA, boxing, and WWE would be accomodated better in the SSC.
February 15th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Okay!
Off to the Grand Slam event now! Hope my fortune cookie was right!!!
February 15th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Speaking of gas prices, I thought today's article on the rail was, well, short-sighted.
It was reported that gas prices were down in the third quarter of the year, and with unemployment up, fewer people were riding the bus. So, in their reasoning: 1 + 1 + 1 = We don't need a rail.
Thing is, it's not the condition of four months ago. What matter is the gas prices and population density in 10 years. I mean, have we learned nothing from the H-1? Barring the next plague or a natural disaster, the population will go up on Oahu.
February 15th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
OH LORD!!!
"AGGIE VISION" SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
February 15th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Kazz - was just wondering - if concerts were held at SSC, would the tixs been cheaper, since they could sell more seats? Some of the concerts were a bit pricey for me at the NBC. Or, are they just out for more money?
February 15th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
ST - if Fasi had his way, we would've had rail 30 years ago!!
February 15th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Re: Blaisdell Arena.
Second year in a row that the Blaisdell cancelled a contract for my son's school to hold graduation ceremonies at the Concert Hall. The school booked the Blaisdell several years ago. But because the Blaisdell decided to book a concert the night before, it cancelled about five gradutions set for June.
So, my feeling is: Tell Rich Sheriff to start booking concerts and MMA fights in the Sheriff Center. What's the Blaisdell gonna do? Sue for breach of contract?
February 15th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Remember that year UH beat, I think, Stanford and Long Beach State in the NIT? But then it had to go on the road to play a lower-seeded New Mexico because the Blaisdell booked a concert?
February 15th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
The Blaisdell is the reason UH had to build its own arena.
February 15th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Big East goes down: Syracuse (2), Villanova (3) and Georgetown (8) loses this weekend.
February 15th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
ST - that's disgusting. It should be incumbent upon the City to find them an alternate site. At this late date, where are they gonna go? Thankfully, so far, UHS hasn't had to worry about it. Except for the year they were renovating, UHS has *always* had grad ceremonies at Andrews Amphitheater. But now that they aren't technically a UH entity, things could change. Hope not.
February 15th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Wasn't Jeremy Harris crony running the Blaisdell, Carla?
February 15th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
jm2375:
Read the same article and could not undertand why the City & County would have any say on what occurs at the SSC since it is owned by UH/State of Hawaii.
What is the connection or reason why the City can do this?
February 15th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
Ralph - yeah yeah. whatevas. Hoyas keeps losing games it's not supposed to... Can't tell you, however, how happy I am whenever Syracuse loses.
Their fans are kind of like FSUs.

The UH Marching Band is the BEST BAND IN THE WAC BY FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 15th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
Tried watching the UH game, but, both teams are playing badly. I notice the Aggies arena is as empty as the SSC during game day-lots of empty seats in the lower bowl and don't see much in the upper level. UH down by 12. Time to use the remote..

UW's Danielle Lawrie is an incredible pitcher. Watched a few games on TV last year. Wow.
February 15th, 2010 at 4:42 pm
Yep. The Blaisdell did it to several of the private schools. It is not right to break a contract -- especially those set several years in advance. I sure hope there was more than adequate compensation!
February 15th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
How bad do things have to get before resources are used for the benefit of all?
Does it have to take a disaster to get powers to work together?
Sounds like some rules have to be changed to accommodate the needs of our people- especially our growing generations!

Hey, thanks for all the responses to my Wahine SB questions. For me, the fascination of sports lies in the evolution of a team from the beginning to the end of the season. I like seeing the athletes and coaches bond and overcome issues and obstacles. In that respect, sports serves as an opportunity for participants to grow...gotta like that!
Interestingly, there are lots of psych/socio studies that study the stages that groups go through to become effective work groups. Just as some groups never become effective, some teams never reach their potential either. Fascinating stuff for me. OK...I'm old and retired and don't get out much! LOL
February 15th, 2010 at 5:04 pm

The City and County of Honolulu must approve all building permits for all construction EXCEPT military projects and DHHL.That's why the City is involved with UH bidness.
Back in the day when the Stan Sheriff Center was going through planning and permitting processes, the Manoa and Moi`iliili Nieghborhood Boards were asked to provide their input. They expressed strong reservations because of the added traffic, noise, and other issues so the restriction concerning the SSC usage for non-sports and non-UH academic activities was put into effect.
The same mentality exists today. I attend their meetings a couple of time each year and some of the Boardmembers do NOT appreciate the value of having a D-1 school in the neighborhood.
That's also why there is double-booking for sports events. The general approach is that it's better to suffer fewer days of inconvenience even if it means that we wind up giving away tickets. See my next post if you'd like some tickets.
Recently, I posted information here on the blog about the new UH construction projects coming on line & the impact the new language would have on the Center and urged folks to get informed on the issues and then speak up.
Re Na Wahine softball team - the infield defense is really strong; however, the left/center field players need to work first on their communications and then on bustling their huns to get to the ball.
As for offense - strong bals once the players figure out wassup with the pitcher. I assume that the opponents provide video/DVD footabe to examine.
Lots of good stuff to watch in the next couple of months. Good luck
Waiting for DrDoc to pick me up so that we can head on over to the Grand Slam fundraiser. .

Whoops! strong baTs not bals. Bad eye! Bad eye!!
We have an extra set of basketball tickets for the Saturday, February 20 two-fer. The women play LaTech at 5 pm and the men play Cal Poly at 8 pm. We have season tickets for both teams and can give away one set.
Other ticket giveaways: We also have two men's basketball tickets and one baseball ticket to give away on February 25 - DrDoc has a meeting he must attend, but I plan to go the baseball game. You do NOT have to sit with me although I wouldn't mind the company and the extra eyes.
We also have two baseball tickets to give away on February 26 since we'll be at the volleyball match which is also being played that same night.
If you'd like a ticket or two, please send me an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com. Be sure to include your real name and a daytime or cell telephone number plus which sporting event you'd like to attend.

Just read the article on the Blaisdell/SSC and it sounds like the city is playing a little black mail game with UH. Typical Hawaii Government in action.

Re: Softball.
There's a lot to love about the team and the sport.
First, there are no locker rooms or bathrooms at the stadium. Everybody uses the public restroom between the stadium and soccer practice field.
No admission fee.

ST - mebbe someone should see what the rules are for using Andrews. Seems to me that facility is very underused. Andrews is more than adequate for UHS, so I would think that all the small schools would be ok in there. Yes, you sit on concrete, but there's ample parking and not a whole lot going on on upper campus during the summer.
February 15th, 2010 at 6:18 pm
If you feel strongly about these issues, then speak up. The Council will meet on February 24 to take a final vote.
Will post the information about the bill as soon as the City Clerk releases the meeting notice on Thursday.
DrDoc is here - off to eat good stuffs.

Hmmm, might have to make the Tuesday interview...

Isn't the Wahine 3-2? On anothe note the men's bb team got blown out. The same ole story. They can't shoot the basketball to save their souls.
39% can't cut it. Only 3-17 from 3 point line. IF they had Amis, Williams, and Lay maybe, just maybe the team might have at least a winning record. I really think Balocka has been a big disappointment. He was supposed to be a consistent 10 point scorer with about 7 to 8 rebounds per game, but he's not even close to that. Plus, he comes off as a whiner! In retrospect, we could have used Lasha and Kareem and at least they could complement the group. Enos and Albrectson, both walk-ons are only practice players.
February 15th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
wafan,
Nope. They use the Arena; but Sacred Hearts moved to the Arena for their ceremony right after.
February 15th, 2010 at 7:59 pm
Na Wahine softball is 3-2. One loss on opening night aka the first game of the season and the other loss was to #10 Stanford which they car-jacked the night after.
February 15th, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Thought I'd drop in and visit.

February 15th, 2010 at 8:35 pm
I like those tall lanky recruits this year, some of them may become great OTs maybe even a shutdown backside blocker in a couple of years.
February 15th, 2010 at 8:38 pm

2010 Grand Slam Fundraiser
Was excellent! My first one and I know I'm gonna be back again next season.
Midori, Stretch, Chawan, Lefty, and their friend (sorry, but I forgot the braddah's name
), and PowderPuff provided great company.
Good thing Midori was there because for some reason I couldn't put the names of the players to the faces I saw. Only recognized Kolten, Kuroda, Kramer, MacDonald, and C. Johnson. I could guess who the pitchers were since guys like Little are so dang tall.
Ran into Coach Trap in the begining and wished him the best of luck. Nice guy, first time I went up to him and he seemed like he was relaxed and truly humbled at the turnout.
Chatted small kine with Coach Mack. He seemed to like my shirt.
. I had to ask him about the green jerseys on sale for fans next season, but he said it was UA's call, but said that the team was getting another uniform scheme from UA for the 2010 season...
In the silent auction room got to show Coach Coolen some "aloha" for the way the team turned the weekend around and upsetting #10 Stanford and also talked a little about the pitching. Long story short, seems like Parnaby is one of those players that kicks it into another gear come game time. He said when he first saw her at practice he was worried about how she'd do come game time, but then she just went 180 and lit it up. Considering how she's done so far, he laughingly said he could live with that the rest of the season. He and his wife won a few silent auctions tonight as well.
Speaking of winners, congrats to PowderPuff on a sweet addition to her golf swag. She won a nice hard case golf club travel bag and lefty walked away with game worn tear away sweats from Kwame Brown of the Lakers. Dang thing was so huge Puff and Midori fit into a leg each! (pictures to come!!!
)
I guess my fortune cookie was right. I finally won a UH auction and walked away with a signed game volleyball from Dave Shoji, a mini volleyball also signed from the coach and another mini one signed by the entire 2009 team and a piece of sport court from the 2009 NCAA Women's D1 Volleyball court. Well, that's what we think it is. Not sure if it's actually a piece of the court they played on as I didn't read the discription of the item.
Food was excellent. Hukilau with the cone sushi (unagi and spicy ahi) and char siu manapua, Roy's with their excellent dessert brownie/ice cream thing, Sweet Nothings with their cheesecake, BCD with brazed spare ribs and garlic mash, Ruth Chris with their steak, Sergio's with their own spare ribs and some flaky thing filled with brie cheese and some vinagrette/raspberry dressing, and Gordon Biersch with hors d'ouevres (did I spell that right?).
Was a good night with a good amount of kala going to our student athletes!
February 15th, 2010 at 9:43 pm
McNeese State 2/UH 1
Texas A&M 0/UH 9
Stanford 2/UH 0
McNeese State 2/UH 5
Stanford 5/UH 11
Enjoyable event tonight. Saw a couple of Tsai-kos off in the distance, but given the current state of my eyeballs, I couldn't confirm whom I was seeing. Was too embarrassed to whip out the binoculars.
February 15th, 2010 at 10:01 pm
stretch,
i'd run away if i saw lefty do that at a basketball game too. we need to encourage fans to show up, not stay home!
February 15th, 2010 at 10:14 pm
Ralph,
I'm watching the bb replay and looks like we still draw more at the SSC compared to this particular game at Las Cruces.
February 15th, 2010 at 10:24 pm
Congrats, Kazz!
February 15th, 2010 at 10:30 pm
Kazz NMST list 5564 in the house. Both ADs fudge their attendance
February 15th, 2010 at 10:35 pm
Lucky and indeed memorable, Kazz! Congratulations on your win. And whoa, Lefty's newest pair of pants is quite...large. The Grand Slam was a wonderful event...just terrific to see so much moola going to the young adults who represent our team. Thanks for the thorough recap, Kazz...awesome!
I think I am going to stick with my BlackBerry for a while...I love my BB Tour 9630, Kazz. But I'm going to need to check out ST's new "robot."
February 15th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Well, depends. I think UH is being upfront or at least watching how they announce attendance. Always in the arena they say "Tickets ISSUED" as opposed to the turnstile amount. Unless it's something significant like the night Shoji got 1000, then they'll feel good about the turnstile count.
"Fudged" attendance figures are nothing new to me. In 2007 me and two other friends went to Wrestlemania 23 at Ford Field in Detroit. WWE, Inc. announced the attendance was 80,000+, just shy of their indoor record at Wrestlemania 3 in the Pontiac Silverdome of 93,000+. Realistically there were just over 74,000+ in Ford Field that night. Me and my friends were excited about being at the WWE's 2nd most attended PPV event, but with the actual figures coming out a few days afterwards, the WWE's 2nd most attended event was Summerslam 1992 at Wembly Soccer Stadium which was truly 80,000+.
So yeah, we were kind bummed...
February 15th, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Tsai,
at this time of the year, I am especially thankful for your football scoops.
BIK
February 15th, 2010 at 10:44 pm
Puff,
You may be a believer in HTC's Droid. I think the battery life is also better, but yeah you get used to one smartphone and it's hard to switch.
Oh and just when I thought it couldn't get better volleyball wise, I just scooped out hawaiiathletics.com and they're now auctioning off one of the game balls during Shoji's 1000th win against NMSU signed by Coach and the entire team!!!
Ah I shouldn't even attempt it! I'm more than happy with what I got!
February 15th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Ugh...
Gotta take da "browns" to da "superbowl"...
Think I'm gonna turn in early tonight!!! I never catch the BC Show when I am on vacay so will try tomorrow night!!!

I know you like to wear UH gear, I think I have an idea where those two mini v-balls can go.
In fact, I can think of two places.
