Thinking green

July 28th, 2010

Despite the implementation of an athletics fee — which won't kick in until January — the UH athletic department continues to to be mindful of the budget.

Warrior football coach Greg McMackin's decision to eliminate team movie outings on the eve of games is just the first step in cutting costs. What's more, McMackin still is voluntarily taking a 7 percent pay cut through June 30, 2011 — which amounts to $77,004 annually and $141,174 for the 22-month period.

Also, earlier this year, each of UH's sport programs was  asked to raise $25,000 annually to offset expenses. There will be no penalties for failing to meet the goal.
