Warriors beat Utah State

October 23rd, 2010
By Stephen Tsai

LOGAN, Utah — It rained. The Warriors poured.

In the 45-7 victory over Utah State, Alex Green rushed for a career-high 172 yards and four touchdowns (most rushing scores since Glenn Freitas in 1995), and the defense held the Aggies to 181 yards. It was the fewest yards allowed by the Warriors since 2005. Utah State's Diondre Borel was held to 98 yards in total offense, about 116 below his average.

The Warriors (6-2 overall, 4-0 in the WAC) can clinch a winning regular season and become bowl eligible with a victory over Idaho Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

Here are some leftover pictures from yesterday:

The setting is gorgeous. Mountainous backdrop (UH coaches call it the mauka side). Intimate seating. (The stadium seats 25,000 but because some bring blankets, they take up more than the 18-inch width they're allowed in the general admission area.) And the artificial turf is very good.

Right tackle Laupepa Letuli did not play while recovering from a sprained ankle.

Greg Salas still wears this shirt:

As always, head coach Greg McMackin wore slippers to yesterday's walk-through:

This was an interesting moment. The players were gathered in front of a fake fireplace. It was kind of cool to see them at such peace. Of course, it didn't last long. They actually were on a short break before their next meeting.

One of the most enjoyable things about road trips is meeting all of the parents. Austin Hansen's dad told us about going pheasant hunting yesterday. He's an interesting guy. The parents of Brent Rausch always have great stories. Scott Enos' mom is perhaps the most energetic parent. We expect to see former punter Tim Grasso's dad out here for the game.

    Go Warriors!

I like reading that the special teams are practicing the field sprints after seeing LSU and other big schools screw it up. Waking up to tornado sirens here in W. Texas...we needed the rain anyway.

  2. 99club:

The Warriors need to rent an Mi-26 to get to the game. Land in the middle of the field...that'd be cool.

  3. 99club:

Funny that the one post where a fireplace is mentioned, I'm looking at mine thinking if that's the safest place in the house during a tornado. Hmmmmmm....

  4. Stephen Tsai:

I did not know the fireplace was the safest. Santa is a smart dude.

  5. 99club:

Click on the link to see how a special teams can work when you practice the sprint:

    Air Force, of course. ;)

  6. Michigan Warrior:

    Game Day, Baby!!!

    Go, Warriors!!!

  7. 99club:

Haha ST. No basements in W. TX so it's that or an inner hallway. I think I'll hang with the family in the hallway. Already received two auto-phone calls from Angelo State U. (keed goes there) warning us about the tornado warning. If anyone remembers, ASU's softball team was eliminated by HPU in the semis this past year.

  8. 99club:

    Good morning MW!

  9. Michigan Warrior:

The WAC used to be known for producing QB's once upon a time.
    Great pictures!
    I love Salas' shirt!

  10. Michigan Warrior:

    Good morning everyone!

Looking forward to a great game today!

Let's get it done and get out of town!

    Go, Warriors!

  11. 99club:

It's not going to be as cold as Green Bay today, but I heard Mark May say that one of the tricks was to put antiperspirant on the feet so that the feet wouldn't sweat as much and then it wouldn't freeze the feet. Never heard that one at survival school.

  12. Stephen Tsai:

Well, 99club, give us an update.
Hope you'll be OK over there.

  13. Stephen Tsai:

    Michigan Warrior:
Those are the shirts they wore during the offseason. I like the idea they feel there's more work to be done.

  14. 99club:

According to the Weather Channel, game time should be 55 degrees with 50% chance of rain. Hey, could be worse. Someone told me that 50% means that it's going to rain, but only in 50% of the reporting area.

  15. 99club:

Tornado warning pau. Still raining pretty hard here.

  16. Annoddah Dave:

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
Hope weather is not a factor and the team does its business!
    GO WARRIORS!! Beat USU!!

  17. Michigan Warrior:

That's right, ST! That is the right attitude!!! They gotta play UP to that expectation every day, practice and game!
Don't know what it's like there, but we woke up to frost on the ground the past couple of mornings.

  18. Michigan Warrior:

I really don't feel like seeing snow BEFORE Halloween. But then again, it's better than having rain while taking the kids trick-or-treating.

  19. 99club:

Before this weather started I went out with a small wash cloth to scrub the gifts the birds had left on my car. Should be nice and clean now. Aw, c'mon. You've never done that?

  20. Stephen Tsai:

I think it would be cool if it snowed during the Boise game. Hmmm. Those blue uniforms against the white backdrop ... Wouldn't the visiting Warriors be the camouflaged team?

  21. Stephen Tsai:

I'm not sure where birds live, but apparently where ever it is, it is not a fitting place to do their business — unlike, say, a nicely shined car.

  22. Stephen Tsai:

I'm debating whether to take my laptop to the game.
It is a loooong climb to the press box.

  23. 99club:

Does the laptop generate heat? :)

  24. Michigan Warrior:

#20... ST... Ah, good point... may make us harder to see... and the field would have a white cover.

  25. Stephen Tsai:

    99club:
It does generate heat. Too much, sometimes, and it shuts off. Hopefully, not during a story.

  26. Stephen Tsai:

OK, we're going to do a quick run to the mall. Be back in an hour or so.

  27. CoolEthan:

Good ole rubber water bottles. Heat um up (with the laptop), then "sit on it." ( Thanks Fonzie)

Nice low pressure off of S.Calif. bringing up that moisture from the South for Utah. Could be worse. At least it's not from the North.

  28. CoolEthan:

    ST-
Good analogy with snow in Boise. Would ruin the Blue Turf syndrome.
Everthing would be Even Steven. pun intended

  29. 99club:

Nov 6 will be the latest in the year we've played at Boise by one week. I was at the 29 Oct 2004 game...cold, but actually a nice day except for the score. Ouch.

That would be great to have snow in Boise...good point about the camouflage factor.

  30. gigi-hawaii:

    ST,
what a visual. Snow in Boise and the Warriors dressed in camouflage white! LOL.

  31. wafan:

It is going to be a great game day Saturday!

  32. wafan:

Um, not here . . . it is pouring outside but the winds have not picked up much. Yet.

Boy, chicken skin watching Coach Ken address the Middies in the locker room as they break for their game against ND.

I know UHFan808 posted a great video on FB of Hawaii coming on the field at Aloha but what other team gets an F-18 flyover when they take the field? WOW!

  46. 808ike:

Nice to see Brew back. FBI gave him some time off from his undercover spy mission.
    Spy the Aggies.

  52. 808ike:

    Go Warriors!!!!!!!!!

  53. Shoko:

It's been mentioned that there is a problem with an increase in helmets flying off players during the course of play. Whether its a fitting problem or a design issue, I think that helmets flying off is sort of like breakaway skis that prevent further injury during crashes. The thought of seeing a helmet fly off with the head not intact with the body would make me cringe. Guess I'm having a Halloween moment.

  54. βρεω808:

    D1-
Wanted to Watch the start of Navy game taking the field, but missed it.

Nothing like a F-18 being part of the 12th man support opening the game! Wow.

  60. HNL:

Go WARRIORS, go in do your business and get out.

  61. Old Diver:

Gonna miss the PPV, traveling in San Diego, would appreciate updates during the game please.

    Go Warriors!

  62. A-joe:

ST- Can you take pics of Robert Kekaula's work environment? And if possible, the ladder and hatch door Robert needs to climb and get thru today to do.

  63. Pomai:

Will be heading to Nancy's in a few hours, can't come too soon, come on Warriors you can win, bring your A game in all phases.

  64. Hank:

    Good Morning Everyone...

liked what Kani Tuipulotu said this week..."we should think of ourselves as underdogs."

...no one believes in us except US.

    Go Warriors!

  65. d1島:

    CoolEthan,

Only thing better than an F/A-18 flyover is to have TWO do it! :-D

Taking our new radjo with us to keep tuned in.

Off to do our political thang. See/read you about 17 hours from now. One of these days, I might actually be able to access the Internet with my iPhone - assuming that I can find someone with patience to tutor me. I am not a manual sort of person so until someone steps forward to work with me, I have to wait until I get access to a (real) computer to do anything on this or any blog.

BTW- Doesn't Ogden sound like some place from Lord of The Rings?
"And so it came to pass that a great battle was formed in the mountains of Ogden. Voluminous black clouds spewing rain, sleet and hail were not enough to deny the mighty Warriors this day!"

  92. Stephen Tsai:

Team is departing the hotel in about 15 minutes.
They appear to be in good spirits.

  137. Slugger:

Don't know if anyone had posted this story about two Orange County HS FB teams. My Aunty in Garden Grove sent me this. Click on my name for the whole story.:

However, the biggest play of the game came from Rancho Alamitos senior Nate Erkine.

With less than 20 second remaining in the game, the senior running back, who has Down syndrome, was given the ball and the Garden Grove defense left a lane open for Erkine to run for an 80-yard touchdown as time expired.

If snow is predicted for 8,000 ft. in Logan, it'll just be cold rain at the stadium. Knit caps & gloves all around with long coats to stay dry. Hope UA provided all of that...

    brew808,

You're RIGHT! It's Austin Hansen, Yorba Linda, CA. Sorry, my mind is still not quite awake. Still on my first cuppa kope.

I'm wondering who's coming from Australia next weekend w/ Dunnachie's crew.

  144. d1島:

Under Armour has taken care of our Warriors very well.

Lord knows if we still had Nike, they'd be at the mall with ST looking for extra jackets and whatnot.

  146. Kazz (click to support a 2011 WAC Championship):

Just messaged SailorBlue to tell him Navy is STOMPING all over Notre Dame.

    What was I thinking?

Next time I should text Brian Kelly about how much he's a douchebag.

    Talk about stating the OBVIOUS!

  147. Slugger:

I like your lyrics, Brew808! LOL Now that tune will be rattling around in my brain for the morning. :D

  164. Michigan Warrior:

Texas was overrated to start the season. That led to Nebraska and Oklahoma being given higher ratings as well.

  165. Homegrown:

GO WARRIORS!!!if uh puts on a good showing they should be ranked.dont understand why texas is ranked and is taking a beating right now and so is WV which opens the door for uh xD

  166. Michigan Warrior:

I hope LSU can slow down Cam Newton. Arkansas didn't know how to tackle him last week. They just stood by and watched him run around.

    Go Warriors!

  177. LizKauai (iPad):

Brew- LK can offer camera/lens manao too. I migrated to Nikon D5000 for lightweight convenience. The brains are in the lenses, even macro. Still have old D-70 for my beloved but clunky 2.8 glass.

  182. 99club:

Looks like they are slowly but surely making room for the Warriors in the AP rankings:

    Number 20 West Virginia lost,
number 19 Texas just lost to Iowa St.,
number 24 Miss St. has a tough game tonight against Alabama Birmingham,
    number 18 Arizona hosts Washington,
number 14 Okla St. plays 16 Nebraska, the loser might drop out,
Northwestern was ahead of us and lost, and
Nevada is ahead of us but has a bye.

Poor Nevada has to go another week with that bitter taste of defeat in their mouths. :)

Looks like ESPN3 will be doing a live stream for us on the mainland.

  199. tommui:

CHOPSUEYBOY: If you want just a comparatively simple camera, you might consider the digital camera like the Panasonic FZ series. The zoom ranges from 25mm to as much as 600mm. Great ratings. And a simple pocket camera like the Panasonic LX5 - 24mm to about 90mm with a f2 lens.

OL needs to give Mo another 1/2 second...

  351. Shoko:

Third and nine and we run?

  352. UHfan808:

    munching now NOM NOM NOM

    Incidentally,

    Maunch those farmers!!!

  353. βρεω808:

    Aggie turnover would be sweet....!

  354. buffoman:

I know that the weather is bad, but maybe just maybe this team is looking ahead to BSU. Should be smarter than that.

  355. βρεω808:

must be onion flavored corn chips...

  356. UHfan808:

UH 14 : USU 7 at the half!

  357. buffoman:

Oh, special team still a mess.

  358. Matt:

Halftime. 14-7 Warriors. Aggies get the ball to start the 2nd half. Defense needs to come out strong after halftime.

  359. βρεω808:

    14-7 at half... coulda/shoulda been 28-7 or betta, 28-0.... :)

  360. Michigan Warrior:

Man... this game is way too close. Good thing our defense is playing. Our offense needs to wake up and get into a groove.

  361. Steve:

    UHfan808,

    You munching on some Aggies????

  362. 99club:

Outside of the normal WR connections, glad to see Bradley with that catch. They have to respect the long ball. Messrs Green and Chimude are keeping them honest with the running game. Things are looking good. Way to mix it up Rolo!

  363. Committed Road Warrior:

Appears that the weather is affecting both sides. Not sure if/when the rain is supposed to clear out, but if it's still the wind/rain combo that was prevalent throughout most of the 2nd quarter, then I'd expect the same miscues on both sides to occur throughout the second half.

Both teams shooting themselves in the foot. UH with turnovers, USU with penalties. Looks like it'll be a low-scoring affair, relatively speaking.

  364. Shoko:

Well, that last Mo interception was the same play they ran against Nevada when Mo hit Pollard on 3rd and 7 on the Nevada 11. Not sure if it was the right call on first and goal tho. I worry about the third quarter curse.

  365. UHfan808:

@Warriors: take a break to regroup, reassess, recoordinate, and remaunch those farmers!!!

  366. sportsforfun:

Sorry fellas, but the QB is making bad decisions at critical times, and the wide outs are dropping balls. Hopefully the PLAYERS make adjustments at the half too.

  367. Michigan Warrior:

Can you guys believe Time of Possession is 2:1 in our favor?

  368. Michigan Warrior:

We gotta come out and want it more. Gotta execute our plays.

  369. 99club:

Coming out after the half, our goal should be another 3 and out for the Aggies, earning us a short field. Their return guy had a 37-yd return last time, that worries me a bit.

  370. UHfan808:

maunching on dem farmers n spitting 'em out!

    bleck!!!

  371. Committed Road Warrior:

Idaho leading NMSU 31-0, and it isn't even halftime in that game yet. Ouch!

  372. 99club:

Howzit CRW! Yeah, they are both making too many mistakes. I thought this was going to be a high scoring game like the NE - OK St. game I'm watchin' on ABC. 44-34 in the 4th, NE.

  373. anklebiters:

Interesting they are showing the game on a local channel here :!:

  374. 99club:

I'm goin' to the NM St. game...if Mack doesn't call off the dogs it'll be really, really, ugly. Love the NM St. fans, good folks.

  375. anklebiters:

    Beats watching it on ESPN3...

  376. Steve:

No Letdown Warriors, Come Out With Intensity!!!!

  377. PolyMom:

Might just be a POLYMOM but I knew the weather was going to keep the scores down.
So to any of you men who think the Mom's are dumb about football...not so dumb!!!
Is Poomai around with our list and predictions for this game?
But what is going on other then the Tornado warnings all over the country?
So many games delayed. My TIVO is messed up now, LOL!

  378. 99club:

I had to turn off ESPN3 during the half...laptop was too slow while trying to blog at the same time.

  379. Shoko:

The ESPN 3 viedeo feed usually improves as time goes on, but in the beginning its really jumpy. Not sure whats up with that.

  380. Committed Road Warrior:

    Howzit 99club!

I didn't think this game was going to be high-scoring, but I also didn't think the weather (wind/rain) was going to factor as much into both sides as it has so far.

I agree with you that the NMSU fans are good folks. Too bad I'm flying back to DC that day, so I won't be able to attend. Couple that with the fact that I'm not going to Boise either, and it looks like I'm done with the road games this year  ...

  381. Michigan Warrior:

Well, don't know about the two turnovers we threw into the endzone. That would have us at 28-7 or 28-0 right now. It's more about decisions than the weather so far.

  382. Da Punchbowl Kid:

263 total yards in the first half and only 14 points. Gotta eliminate mistakes!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  383. 99club:

Just heard on TV that Navy has not lost a fumble since week 1. Incredible. Those Radford High kids sure know how to coach!

  384. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    maunch?

  385. βρεω808:

No MESS w/ PolyMom!!! :D

  465. buffoman:

Come on. Does this special team suck or what on kick offs. Really now. I say kick to the corner and if it goes out of bounds its better than the run backs.

  466. Matt:

Big stop defense. Warrior D-line is dominating that Aggie O-line.

    nice complete to Bradley!!!

  474. BowsForever:

D saves us again. Special teams rises up when it counts. If we keep this up, Idaho for the Hawaii Bowl, and a chance for Moniz to get his head on straight again and work on the other offensive issues next week. Not a bad place to be.

  475. βρεω808:

"confound" has been used already....

  527. βρεω808:

    For entertainment purposes only -

What you guys think - the 58 U/L got chance?

  528. BowsForever:

Nice win, Warriors. Once again, not a complete game, but the D was absolutely huge. Far cry from the Colorado game. Not only are you guys Most Improved, you're just plain dominating right now!

  529. 99club:

    Brew,

    It's a lock.

  530. Matt:

    Huge Sack!!!

  531. βρεω808:

  538. NYUH:

Paredes just missed his guarantee for the WAC player of the ..... dam Bobby just said it. Hope he is OK.

  539. Slugger:

At least the Aggies are getting to watch an entertaining game for homecoming...although it's from the other side. That one-handed catch by Salas was amazing.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  540. buffoman:

Terrific defense, the o-line got better as the game went on La Count can play. too bad we don"t have hm next year.

Salas is crazy! He will be joining Bess.

  541. βρεω808:

Looking for another game to look-see....
Oh boy.... got FSU at sanHOSEstate!

  542. 99club:

The Warriors are going to be ranked after this game. They are going to be the first team in the country with a Bowl invite after they beat Idaho next week. MAN, this beer tastes good right about now!

  543. Matt:

I think that was a loss of 20+ yards on the sack by Paipai. Starting Offense in for one more series.

  544. Okole Maluna:

Looks like 45 - 7 coming up very soon...

  545. Matt:

Green is gone for another long TD!!!

  546. βρεω808:

... some kind of brown porter I bet....

  547. Okole Maluna:

  549. UHfan808:

  552. BowsForever:

Oh yeah, there's WAC Player of the Week, too. Absolutely, positively Alex Green's award.

  553. hwanstln:

time to let the reserves get some game time.

  554. 99club:

Nebraska had no rushing TD's today. Alex Green of Hawaii has 4 rushing TD's with over 170 yds rushing on the day so far. Who would've thunk it?! I think we have found our WAC Offensive Player of the Week!!!

  555. Hank:

....BAD NEWS - ESPN is gonna go forward and take the UH vs BOISE game...we lose some money...but gain a little RESPECT...

  556. LizKauai (iPad):

    Salas
    Peredes
    Alex
    Moniz

  557. βρεω808:

  558. BowsForever:

Is Alex Green quite possibly the best run n' shoot running back we ever had? (Ilaoa being more of a fullback/shovel pass monster)

  559. LizKauai (iPad):

And Paredes for Defensive Player of the Week!

  560. 99club:

    #546-
...and for a while I thought this was an imposter brew808. Pretty close: Abbey Ale. Had a couple Sierra NV Porters the other day, brewed in Chico, CA.

  561. Matt:

Starting Defense still in. At least most of them are.

  562. NYUH:

Navy over Notre Dame. Manti come home.

  563. Matt:

Umu is playing a good game too.

  564. 99club:

BTW brew, you had the 'U', right?

  565. Matt:

    Backups in on offense.

  566. βρεω808:

    #25-Green now has 10 TD's for the season - with 9 rushing and 1 receiving! Awesome! :) :D

  567. Matt:

Come on Rausch. Let's see a score for the backups.

  568. Hank:

...Hope Brent Leonard ain't hurt too bad...he's been really held back by inury.

  569. UHfan808:

come on Rausch, turn on that 151!!!

  570. 99club:

    Hank,

    Your #555. Really?

  571. Hank:

    oopps...inury = injury.

  572. Matt:

Come on Rausch. Score one for the backups.

  573. Hank:

99club...sorry, no official word yet - just a guess on my part...but i think it will happen.

Hell, it's for the WAC Championship.

  574. βρεω808:

Sorry - I like #16. He's paid his dues - but he's a Sr. Need to give the newer players some game-time reps too.

  575. 99club:

Go ahead brew, you can breathe a little. :)

  576. Shoko:

    This game is...uh, ovah!

    Nice job, Warriors!!

Lets take it too Boise State.

  577. UHfan808:

48X Steve - they have a Rooster on their roster, inspired by dem lol

  578. 99club:

    Hank,

I sure you're right. They'd be crazy not to pick up that game.

  579. βρεω808:

I heard "151" makes some go loco! :)

  580. Okole Maluna:

Well deserved Alex Green should be the WAC Offense Player of the Week with 14 carries for
172 yards and 4 TD today.

Who says Warriors has no Ground game...

  581. buffoman:

Manti can stay up there. He made the choice and its a good one. We have our folks who wanted to stay and play for Hawaii. I don't think we are that much poorer because he's not here.

We do need a good special teams coach, though.

  582. 99club:

    I should be "I'm"

  583. Slugger:

    Matt,

    Graves had a touchdown and he's a backup. :)

But I know what you mean...Go Brent! Go Shane!

  584. 99club:

...and flaming shots of 151 are bad for carpets.

  585. Matt:

Jeremy Higgins in the game at QB for USU.

  586. Matt:

    Starting Defense is still in.

  587. Hank:

ZACH MASCH has really had a nice game...good motor.

  588. Matt:

Well at least many of the starters are still in.

  589. UHfan808:

#579 808 - ya know! dat stuff is da faiyah!!! hehe

  590. Matt:

    Good stop Defense.

  591. βρεω808:

  603. 99club:

  604. El Padrino:

Good call on bringing in a true Special Teams coach.

Anyone else think that the CO game would have been different in the 2nd half if UH went to Boulder 6 days earlier? It seems to have helped in Logan to have gone days earlier with no 2nd half game let down.

  617. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Great win, Warriors look awesome!

Terrific team effort! Alex Green is right up there as far as UH running backs go!

Moniz is da man! Salas is money! Pilares is dynamite! Everybody played great!

  623. PolyMom:

Awesome WIN! Okay but why does Coach Mac take so long to put in the other players?
I mean let these other kids get some experience. If not then every three years the team is going to SUCK!
Come on...Coach Mac! And let AUSTIN have two or three reps. I mean really, you make him run the clock out. Sorry for venting but they have to get these boys experience. Hawaii might need them in the future if we get injuries and stuff. Now back to my TIVO since so many other games were postponed due to weather.

    GOOD WIN HAWAII!!!!!

When I go to work on Monday I am sick of taking smack from the USC folks I work with. Maybe I will wear GREEN to piss them off! LOL!!!!

  624. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Defense = strong! Offensive line gets better and better!

Like those "homer" announcers said, Hawaii is peaking at the right time!

  625. Matt:

I have to give credit to Coach Aranda. The defense played awesome today. They held the Aggies under 200 total yards and to only 7 points.

  626. sportsforfun:

    @#196
    chopsueyboy:
How come we don't have a site to purchase Warrior photos like USU

The WAC website has photos for sale of WAC championship games. No football pics though.

  627. 99club:

I loved those two hookups to Bradley. Hope that's just a warm up for next week!

  628. sportsforfun:

I don't think we have anything to complain about when it comes to homer announcers. Our announcers are the same way.

  629. al:

don't tell me the score now...i dvr'd the live broadcast.

  630. 99club:

Robert Kekaula thinks Hawaii will be ranked after this win. I always thought he looked like one akamai guy.

  631. gigi-hawaii:

    Congrats, Warriors!!!!

Thank God, there was no sleet.

  632. 99club:

    Got it, al. Enjoy.

  633. sportsforfun:

Celebrate the win tonight, then get ready for Idaho on Monday!! Congrats Warriors!!

  634. tommui:

    AL: You buying?
    I think you won today

  635. mctruck:

As important as rb/Green is, I wish Deeeede gets to get more real game time carries, because you never know when his services will be needed; right now he looks real green when he gets achance to do his thing. WOW!!!, GREEN.....I want a chance to tackle you!!...nah, tats o.k., you are too tough to take down fo-me. Like the announcers say, he and Salas/Pilares, are definite pro prospects.

  636. Matt:

I'm guessing that the Warriors will be ranked this week. The Boise supporters around the nation will vote for the Warriors to get their strength of schedule higher. By ranking them this week, they can get moved up even more the following week after they beat Idaho for homecoming. The Boise supporters need to have Hawaii ranked as high as possible when they play each other.

  637. mctruck:

    Deeeemude....dis bud-lite making me deeeemude/dizzzzy!!!

  638. 99club:

    Matt-
Yup. Don't know how many coaches are on the panel that think that way, but there should be enough of them.

  639. Slugger:

    ST ~

Someone needs to correct the FB article:

After the defense held Utah State to a three and out, punter Peter Caldwell fumbled the snap. It was returned 7 yards for a touchdown by Spencer Smith as Enos added the PAT to give Hawaii a 21-7 advantage.

It was a touchdown by #9 = David Graves! Spencer's not playing yet. Same error by the announcers on TV.

  640. 99club:

One other thing: Last week's game was the latest/last game in the country and yet UH got some votes. This game was during the 'waking hours' so it should garner even more attention/votes than last week's game.

  641. 99club:

I'm looking forward to the SA articles about this game. The coverage has been OUTSTANDING by all the SA staff this season.

  642. 99club:

can we crack the Top 25?

  691. papajoe2:

madeinhawaii, Sorry I didn't respond earlier. It was me who dropped by at Haiku Gallery looking for you. Went there from Mililani to vote and look around. Stopped in to say hello and maybe talk story while other voters went shopping. Got to see the beautiful pictures that your wife did. Also the koa frames that you did.

  692. lil.s.808:

    Hi all
Freakin awesome 3rd quarter today! Our D played their hearts out and our O continues to be that well oiled machine that JJ envisioned back in 99. Well I'm going to guess next week will be
    Idaho 13 , UH 51

  693. jm2375:

Wahine win, but it was close - 25-13, 25-23, 25-20. On to USU!

    Great weekend!
Pac-5 wins, Warriors and Wahine win, Yankees lose. Now, if the Skins win tomorrow...

BTW, looking for 2, possibly 3, tickets to the Idaho game.

  694. 99club:

    AP Poll:

Don't look now, but Oklahoma is losing to Mizzou.

How amazing it would be if Boise is #1 when we play? Can you imagine how much interest there would be and how many fans/analysts/writers, etc. would be watching that game?

  701. Michigan Warrior:

Gratz, Warriors! I missed everything in the 4th quarter. Wife called, and I had to leave to pick her up from work.

Something no one has mentioned yet...
Utah State gave Oklahoma a tough time...
Utah State just got beat up by Hawaii...
Air Force gave Oklahoma a tough time...
Air Force just got beat up by TCU...
Oklahoma barely beat a crappy Cincy team AND a crappy Texas team...
Are they really a #1 team? Or, is the whole Big12 overrated this season?

Auburn won and will probably leapfrog Boise State.
Boise State needs Oklahoma to lose to maintain their spot, unless Pollsters have TCU leapfrog Boise too.

    Back to the game...
Kinda wish Green could've gotten a 200-yard rushing game! What a rarity that would've been!
Kinda wish Pilares had gotten another couple of yards so we'd have three 100-yard Receivers in the game.
Despite giving up that 35yd TD run by Dorel, he finished with -1 rush yards for the game!

  702. Michigan Warrior:

Moniz is at #9 with 4203 votes.
Wilson is #10 with 4119 votes.

Keep those votes coming! Half-day left to go for the first round!

  703. 99club:

Mizzou scored again. The dirt burglars are down 36-21 with 6 minutes left in the game.

  714. RainbowCliff:

Congrats Hawaii on a BIG win against the Aggies !

I called it this morning on the previous post #351 that Alex Green
will have a BIG game if he touches the ball as 14 carries for 172 yards
and FOUR touchdowns are some AWESOME numbers !

Green reminds me of fellow rainbow warrior back Wilbert Haslip as both
are built the same BUT Wilbert didn't have Green break away speed as
he is a THOROUHBRED in the open field and bringing him down is like
bringing Bo Jackson and Earl Campbell combined together !

KEEP WINNING as Idaho will be next on the schedule and a likely
BIG game vs. nationally ranked Boise State on the blue turf will
get a lot of attention on football game day Saturday as a national
    audience will be WATCHING !

Safe travels for the Warriors as they continue to DEFY the WAC
media who had them picked at the bottom of the conference as
my retro Rainbow Jack will be SMILING all over the LA roads and
    freeways tomorrow morning !

    IMUA WARRIORS !

  715. BigHiloFan2:

good to see da Warriors play on da road like day did, alol confident and stuffs.

day gotta swagger goin on big time. especially da oline!

wishin our specials would play a little mo special, but truthfully, day was special today.

The crowd at Logan was 17,111 but after halftime down only a touchdown the crowd was down to 2,000. I guess they couldn't stand the cold and rain.

  722. Kekoa:

Listened to LizK on BC show at about 15:05 hrs. She won some kinda prize for calling in. Way to go Lizzie! See you at Homecoming T-gate!

Still basking in the glow of another Warrior Victory!

I do think I better move quickly on to the next game. This old Aggie Nag was kicked to death today. I'm gonna let it Rest In Peace. Snap & Clear.

  723. d1島:

    kruzen,

Noticed entire sections empty in the 2nd half...Can't blame the Aggie faithful, looked pretty miserable out there so I guess common sense took over once the Warriors got rolling!

  724. BigHiloFan2:

to me, the BEST part of the game, besides our Warriors playing like Warriors, was the post game. seeing the players go up to the Hawaii fans and share the Aloha in Logan was just awesome. simply awesome. had chikken skin, in a bar no less. :D

What a difference a year makes, from the frustration at Las Vegas, walking outta the stadium witout a kiss goodbye, to now, letting us fans know they (Warriors and Coaches) appreciate us like we appreciate them, our Warriors. thanks Coaches. Big Mahalo.

    IMUA WARRIORS!

#1 ranked team has lost 3 weeks in a row.

    Alabama
    Ohio St.
    Oklahoma

It could extend to 5 weeks.
    Next week: Oregon vs USC
    Following week: BSU vs UH

  730. Matt:

So I wonder who came up with the handshake celebrations whenever we scored a TD. Is that Mack's way of making sure we don't get an excessive celebration penalty?

  731. BigHiloFan2:

    my prediction

Oregon not gonna play Boise fo da big prize
cuz Boise gonna get smacked by da Warriors.
    on national tv.
our boys playin like they believe they can play with the
big boys. wat a difference a year makes - from Florida,
and a coupla months ago in Colorado.
the coaches are making the players believe they can play on the
road. in Navy. In Logan. In the 1st quarter in Boulder.
they gotta just keep believin in demselves.

let it be said, let it be written
now lets get it done!

  740. RainbowCliff:

#718 Steve: YES kind sir Mr. Wilbet Haslip was a bruising back that PUNISHED
many football opponents as his thighs were HUGE while his gentle personality
was GREAT to be around with his warm smile filling any room of athletes and
students who enjoyed his ENORMOUS personality !

Alex Green is a STUD as he brings the running game and balance your high percentage
throwing offense as he will be needed for Idaho and the BIG game vs. Boise State !

One more win Hawaii bowl eligible and hopefully some soild rankings from AP and Coaches
poll as for that to happen win Idaho and BEAT Boise !

    UH 45 them 21
What a grand game... What's the menu for the next t gate

  742. Ipu Man:

Papajoe, my guess is that "Aggies" refers to when
the school was mainly a college of Agriculture and
so a bunch of Agries turned into Aggies...

  743. Pride.:

10 and 3 in the last thirteen games. Losses are to three BCS teams.

    Colorado
    USC
    Wisconsin

Winning is a habit. It's amazing how good teams always find a way to win.

  744. Pride.:

Warriors are tough against the run.

    Being tough against the run
    Winning the turnover battle
    Solid special teams
Offense with a high red zone percentage

    Hard to beat that.

  745. Ipu Man:

Also, had an idea for when we play on the blue smurf,,,
Have UH cheerleaders lead the team out with buckets of
chalk powder blowing in wind to sort of emulate a wipe
out...and of course to whiten the field to baby blue.

  746. Boxco:

#714, RainbowCliff, your right, Green looks like a faster Haslip! My Retro Rainbow Jack, along with my Warrior Jack, is smil'n too! GOBO'S!!!

  748. Pride.:

    Getting ready for Idaho already.

  749. papajoe2:

#472 Ipu Man, You are probably right about the name Aggies. But after today's game maybe Agnus might be more appropriate.

10 - Care enough about the man next to you to carry out the details of your assignment.

11 - Care enough about the man next to you to carry out the details of your assignment.

Okay, that should cover everyone on the field,

  751. Pride.:

I'm not out to hurt anyone, but getting a little excited about the Idaho game.

  752. Pride.:

Using a very common football term.

    "Paybacks are a bitch!"

  753. papajoe2:

Notice the difference in running between Green and Chizzy? Seems like Green will run forward hard and if a defender tries to tackle him, he will keep going to try to make them miss or don't get a good shot at him. When Chizzy runs, it seems like if a defender is coming at him, he stops, then tries to either change directions or try to shake and bake to make the first player miss, but usually the persuit catches him because of the time he takes shaking and backing. Green reminds me of Gary Allen but Allen weighed only 175 lbs.

  754. Pride.:

Gotta put a stompin' on the Vandals, because paybacks are a bitch.

  755. Pride.:

#753 - Heard that Gary Allen was a hell of a running back.

  756. Pride.:

Wonder if oldie might have a copy of today's USU game. Would like to see the game.

  757. Pride.:

Should have Mr. Kekaula talk to the guys every week.

  758. Ipu Man:

Before their game today, Idaho coach Robb Akey said.
“When we play physical and play flying around the field with confidence, we’re good. We’re one of the top teams (19th) at sacking the quarterback in the country and one of the top teams in the country at taking the football away (tied for fourth)...

last year. Maybe we should all pray for him to have a
    Heavenly payback game...Amen?

  765. PowderPuff:

Amen, Pride (#754, #757)! Time for a bitchin' payback on the potato heads next week, and yeah, RK should talk to the boys every week. Gee, I wonder what he'll tell them in early November?!?! :)

  766. papajoe2:

#755 Pride, I wonder who was his blockers.

  767. papajoe2:

Anybody know how many sacks USU had today. What about Hawaii?

  768. d1島:

    Terrific game by Green today.

To me though, his greatest contribution this season has consistently been his pass pro...

...always notice a dropoff when he is subbed out.

  772. pcwarrior:

Congrats Jack!!! Way to go WARRIORS!!! Bryant, Alex And the DEFENSE!!! Great job making up for 2008. After that long run by Borel I started thinking hear we go again. But the DEFENSE showed their true grit and readjusted and focused on their assignments thus shutting the Aggies down!! BRAVO!!! All I ask is a BIG HANA HOU next week!!! Great game today!

Next week homecoming and even more emotions. Possible Hawaii Bowl qualifying win.

    Curse of the #1's...

I think Hawaii is going to get up to about 27 in votes in at least one of the polls. Next week it may be another story.

    Go Warriors!

  787. LizKauai (iPad):

Yup. If Chizzy runs north south instead of shake and bake, he will be awesome.

I felt the confidence from the start. I saw the development time given to strengthen our wideouts and a systematic process of expanding the offensive capabilities and untested talents. The booboos were not important. What was important that the wides got to test their skills and Moniz got to air it out more and get used to that feeling.

The team, God-willing, will peak at the end of their season and play in an awesome bowl game. In just 3 years, Coach Mack and crew are bringing back the Believe in Warrior Football. I appreciate that soooo much!

Mahalo, everyone and see you at homecoming!

  788. Ipu Man:

  789. Ipu Man:

    Hmmmm...just voted 2nd time today.
Guess because it is past midnight on the mainland.
Anyhow, Moniz at 4342 votes behind East Carolina qb
and ahead of North Carolina State qb...

  790. expat:

Well, I just managed to get through the replay on ESPN3. Great job by the team and coaches. I did not even think about this until late in the game, but I don't really recall seeing any blitzes by the Warriors. Could that be? They were running Borel ragged back there. The D line is really playing well. Coaches Lee and Tuioti are really getting those guys ready to play.

What else can you say? They put a whuppin' down. Next week is revenge time again and with a win the bowl game is secure.

One more thought... Salas really does like to chatter out there. It seemed like he was giving some of the those DBs his life story.

  791. LP42fan:

Yay, good job, Warriors!!!! I'll see you guys next week at Aloha Stadium. You can go to the Bowl!!!

Anyone heard the TV production guys call Mack a "soft-talker" in his post-game interview? Too damn funny...I was waiting for them to say something disparaging about our Warriors, then ready to pounce on them and raise hell. Hawaii News Now just showed that clip.

Mack is definitely not the Steve Spurrier type who is good at interviews and stuff...Then again June Jones wasn't much of a talker either.

One more thought... Salas really does like to chatter out there. It seemed like he was giving some of the those DBs his life story.

I have a feeling the DB asked about Kekaula's speech so Salas kept repeating it to him.

Why not? I am now a believer in this defense. And since they are getting better by the game, it only seems logical that the next step is a shutout.

DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS IDAHO TEAM. But the D will dominate.

    re my post #803...

Has Mack ever started an interview win or lose with "Hey you know, I'm proud of my players and coaches, they played their tails off. And you know _ _ _ _ _ team, I give them credit for being a great football team"

Kinda reminds me of the City Council when Gary Okino would ALWAYS start by saying "Hey you know, Ive been a city planner for 40 years and I know this is the right thing to do..."

    Or

Rod Tam: "You know, this is Democracy, in China its not a democracy, its umm...communism...you cant vote in China...well you can...but its only one person on the ballot."

Anyway....i don't know why I thought of this just now.

  820. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

@819 its supposed tobe NOT STARTED AN INTERVIEW WITH...

  821. LizKauai (iPad):

"Verily, I say unto thee that the gifts of thy Lord are encircling thee in a similar way as the spirit encircles the body at the beginning of the amalgamation of the elements and natures in the womb; the power of the spirit begins then to appear in the body gradually and successively according to the preparation and capacity to receive that everlasting abundance."

    BELIEVE!
    GO WARRIORS!

What a sweet win! Ho'omaikai to the coaches & players. The D picked up speed for this game. Great job containing Borel. Next... Mash those potatoes!

    Hello Miss Slugger!

    Howzabout that game, eh?

Personally, I'm very happy for Alex Green. We don't have an offense which showcases running backs, but the man stole the spotlight today! I hope NFL scouts are taking notice. Size, speed and power kills! And he's a big guy too!

  834. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc:

We can run if the weather is too bad to shoot... Shoots! Even our backup QBs got in the action. Great catches today.

Looking forward to the Na Koa lunch on Monday!

  840. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    K, night you guys.

wafan, did anyone get back to you re: a copy of the game? Pauoa boy? I can record the replay tomorrow, but I don't have your addresses.

  844. Michigan Warrior:

I absolutely LOVE congratulating whomever scored our TD with a handshake! Maybe take it one step further and... everyone who greets the scorer offers his hand, and then when the scorer shakes their hand, the guy offering his hand slightly bows to show respect!

Anyways, real proud of the guys for hanging in there, even after those couple of turnovers! Way to come out of the half and take charge!

Slightly different team coming in next week. They pass more than run, as opposed to what we've seen over the pass month. Just keep the D-Line pressure, and don't give up big plays!

  845. Michigan Warrior:

Keep the votes coming for Moniz! Last couple of hours of voting! Finish strong!

Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Very well built. Output is exactly what is described- a nice even swath of noise over the CDMA, 3G and GSM bands. It is putting out a few milliwatts and cell towers put out hundreds of watts- so it works only over 10-50 feet on CDMA and less on 3G. AT&T phones seem to be immune
