Warriors beat Utah State

LOGAN, Utah — It rained. The Warriors poured.
In the 45-7 victory over Utah State, Alex Green rushed for a career-high 172 yards and four touchdowns (most rushing scores since Glenn Freitas in 1995), and the defense held the Aggies to 181 yards. It was the fewest yards allowed by the Warriors since 2005. Utah State's Diondre Borel was held to 98 yards in total offense, about 116 below his average.
The Warriors (6-2 overall, 4-0 in the WAC) can clinch a winning regular season and become bowl eligible with a victory over Idaho Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

The setting is gorgeous. Mountainous backdrop (UH coaches call it the mauka side). Intimate seating. (The stadium seats 25,000 but because some bring blankets, they take up more than the 18-inch width they're allowed in the general admission area.) And the artificial turf is very good.

This was an interesting moment. The players were gathered in front of a fake fireplace. It was kind of cool to see them at such peace. Of course, it didn't last long. They actually were on a short break before their next meeting.

One of the most enjoyable things about road trips is meeting all of the parents. Austin Hansen's dad told us about going pheasant hunting yesterday. He's an interesting guy. The parents of Brent Rausch always have great stories. Scott Enos' mom is perhaps the most energetic parent. We expect to see former punter Tim Grasso's dad out here for the game.

I like reading that the special teams are practicing the field sprints after seeing LSU and other big schools screw it up. Waking up to tornado sirens here in W. Texas...we needed the rain anyway.

(keed goes there) warning us about the tornado warning. If anyone remembers, ASU's softball team was eliminated by HPU in the semis this past year.

It's not going to be as cold as Green Bay today, but I heard Mark May say that one of the tricks was to put antiperspirant on the feet so that the feet wouldn't sweat as much and then it wouldn't freeze the feet. Never heard that one at survival school.

According to the Weather Channel, game time should be 55 degrees with 50% chance of rain. Hey, could be worse. Someone told me that 50% means that it's going to rain, but only in 50% of the reporting area.

It's been mentioned that there is a problem with an increase in helmets flying off players during the course of play. Whether its a fitting problem or a design issue, I think that helmets flying off is sort of like breakaway skis that prevent further injury during crashes. The thought of seeing a helmet fly off with the head not intact with the body would make me cringe. Guess I'm having a Halloween moment.

Appears that the weather is affecting both sides. Not sure if/when the rain is supposed to clear out, but if it's still the wind/rain combo that was prevalent throughout most of the 2nd quarter, then I'd expect the same miscues on both sides to occur throughout the second half.
Both teams shooting themselves in the foot. UH with turnovers, USU with penalties. Looks like it'll be a low-scoring affair, relatively speaking.

The ESPN 3 viedeo feed usually improves as time goes on, but in the beginning its really jumpy. Not sure whats up with that.

I didn't think this game was going to be high-scoring, but I also didn't think the weather (wind/rain) was going to factor as much into both sides as it has so far.
I agree with you that the NMSU fans are good folks. Too bad I'm flying back to DC that day, so I won't be able to attend. Couple that with the fact that I'm not going to Boise either, and it looks like I'm done with the road games this year

I'm guessing that the Warriors will be ranked this week. The Boise supporters around the nation will vote for the Warriors to get their strength of schedule higher. By ranking them this week, they can get moved up even more the following week after they beat Idaho for homecoming. and FOUR touchdowns are some AWESOME numbers !
Green reminds me of fellow rainbow warrior back Wilbert Haslip as both
are built the same BUT Wilbert didn't have Green break away speed as
he is a THOROUHBRED in the open field and bringing him down is like

to me, the BEST part of the game, besides our Warriors playing like Warriors, was the post game. seeing the players go up to the Hawaii fans and share the Aloha in Logan was just awesome. simply awesome. had chikken skin, in a bar no less.
What a difference a year makes, from the frustration at Las Vegas, walking outta the stadium witout a kiss goodbye, to now, letting us fans know they (Warriors and Coaches) appreciate us like we appreciate them, our Warriors. thanks Coaches. Big Mahalo.

Notice the difference in running between Green and Chizzy? Seems like Green will run forward hard and if a defender tries to tackle him, he will keep going to try to make them miss or don't get a good shot at him. When Chizzy runs, it seems like if a defender is coming at him, he stops, then tries to either change directions or try to shake and bake to make the first player miss, but usually the persuit catches him because of the time he takes shaking and backing. Green reminds me of Gary Allen but Allen weighed only 175 lbs.

I felt the confidence from the start. I saw the development time given to strengthen our wideouts and a systematic process of expanding the offensive capabilities and untested talents. The booboos were not important. What was important that the wides got to test their skills and Moniz got to air it out more and get used to that feeling.
The team, God-willing, will peak at the end of their season and play in an awesome bowl game. In just 3 years, Coach Mack and crew are bringing back the Believe in Warrior Football. I appreciate that soooo much!

Well, I just managed to get through the replay on ESPN3. Great job by the team and coaches. I did not even think about this until late in the game, but I don't really recall seeing any blitzes by the Warriors. Could that be? They were running Borel ragged back there. The D line is really playing well. Coaches Lee and Tuioti are really getting those guys ready to play.
What else can you say? They put a whuppin' down. Next week is revenge time again and with a win the bowl game is secure.
One more thought... Salas really does like to chatter out there. It seemed like he was giving some of the those DBs his life story.

I absolutely LOVE congratulating whomever scored our TD with a handshake! Maybe take it one step further and... everyone who greets the scorer offers his hand, and then when the scorer shakes their hand, the guy offering his hand slightly bows to show respect!
Anyways, real proud of the guys for hanging in there, even after those couple of turnovers! Way to come out of the half and take charge!

Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Very well built. Output is exactly what is described- a nice even swath of noise over the CDMA, 3G and GSM bands. It is putting out a few milliwatts and cell towers put out hundreds of watts- so it works only over 10-50 feet on CDMA and less on 3G. AT&T phones seem to be immune
