UH poised for share of WAC title

November 26th, 2010
By

EL PASO — In the aftermath of Nevada's upset of Boise State, the Warriors can clinch a share of the WAC's regular-season title with a victory over New Mexico State tomorrow in Aggie Memorial Stadium.

The WAC awards a trophy to each co-champion, regardless of head-to-head results. UH, Boise State and Nevada each have one WAC loss this season.

While UH supporters cheered Nevada's victory in the El Paso  bar of the hotel where the Warriors are staying, the team was sequestered in position meetings. (OK, maybe not. Maybe there might have some loud yelling on the second floor.)

From today's walk-through:

Defensive line coach Tony Tuioti points to his brother's name on a wall honoring former Aggie players:

Because the Aggies were meeting near the front ramp, the Warriors entered the stadium from the stands:

  9. Stephen Tsai:

    It was crazy this morning.
And, now, I do regret not taking Spanish in high school. French is of no use in El Paso.

  10. el guapo:

A 45 minute drive with a few dairies on the side of the interstate. Keep those windows rolled up.

  11. PU:

Having seen NMS play at home several times this year on ESPN 3 their field looks to be in terrible shape. In places the turf looks like cement.

  12. Kazz:

Boise State is not going to lose to anyone this year.

We beat Nevada who still.. STILL has a suspect secondary. Even though they have an improved pass rush with that kid Moch, Nevada will be eaten up.

If people thought 49-7 on us and 51-0 on FSU was amazing, just wait.. Nevada is still SOMEHOW ranked in the Top 20 and BSU is a team that when a task lies ahead of them, they are out to not only conquer, but destroy.

Smashing Nevada is the ONLY thing BSU can do to help themselves going forward and they will make a statement tonight.

2nd place in the WAC is awesome considering the preseason expectations from voters and coaches.

Besides Nevada doesn't have the character to beat a team like BSU. Look at the whining and complaining they did against us when they lost to a better team.

Look at Ault and Kaepernick jaw at each other on the sideline after every 3-out.

The writing on the wall, Nevada was exposed against us and they will be stripped again of any Top 20 ranked aura.

  13. el guapo:

ST, when you walk into a store or restaurant do they speak Spanish to you? That's what happens to us there.

  14. cheepono:

    mornin folks.

    go warriors!

    cheepono out.

  15. Kazz:

I took four years of French in high school.

A few years ago some french guy asked me, in french, where they sold cigarettes.. I think. I just stared at him not remembering how to respond.

  16. madeinhawaii:

I took two years of French in high school and two years at UH. Spent two weeks in France. And ultimately. I can know a little French - I married her.

  17. Pomai:

#12 Kazz your 100% right. I would hate to be a player on aults team, what an idiot.

  21. James:

It's El Paso Hotel. I was wondering what in the world UH Warriors doing in El Paso, Texas when they are playing a game in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Some confusing ....

    Go Warriors!

Good Morning Everyone! Go Nuts Warriors!

  30. madeinhawaii:

    Kazz...

I was there for two weeks in November of '84 ... then again in December for a couple of days ... worst winter they had had in a decade. Decided to to South to Granada Spain where things were cheaper. I had my money and camera gear stolen on a train between France and Germany in early December. I was living off of a credit card I had on me and needed to find work ASAP.

I met my wife years later though in 98, online.. she was working for an ISP that handled Compuserve in France .. and I was a moderator/sysop on several tech and chat forums in Compuserve.

  31. madeinhawaii:

    al,

"Japanese" wasn't a language.. was what you called your dates...

"who was dat I saw you with? "
    "who? da girl?"
    "yeah yeah.. da Japanese one"
    "oh dat one.. da Japanese."

  32. madeinhawaii:

Alabama taking it to Auburn early in the game.

  33. Kukui High School:

Although I wouldn't mind if Hawaii were co-champs, I think I'd rather see Nevada embarassed on national tv and us end up with a second place ranking in the WAC. What do you guys think?

  34. madeinhawaii:

Da biggest problem when looking for someone in McKinley in the late 60's early 70's was describing him/her to others.

"Eh, you seen one girl go by?"
    "What she look like?"
    "Japanese."
    "Dey ALL look Japanese"
"She about dis tall.. got black hair about dis long... you seen her?"
"Oh dat one! Da one with the nice legs.. tight shorts... scotch tape on the eyes?"
"Yeah, yeah.. you wen see her?"
    "No."

  35. madeinhawaii:

Has two Hawaii High School Quarterbacks ever faced off against each other in D1 football history?

    Mahalo !

  42. madeinhawaii:

Alabama 21.. Auburn 0... 12 minutes left in the half.. Alabama with the ball..

Alabama makes this one and they pretty much will go on to win it, I think. Even with Auburn's two key defensive starters returning to the game after the half.

  43. madeinhawaii:

OOops... Auburn's ball.. didn't see the 3 and out... my bad.. still anyone's game...

Leftovers for lunch already...will have some more for dinner. Not complaining though. :)

I'm loving this Alabama game! Sets up those ESPN shills for some serious crow eating between today and the National Championship game.

  52. madeinhawaii:

Alabama is dominating so far in this half. Wonder if Auburn's two starters on defense will make all that much of a difference when they are allowed into the game in the second half?

  53. al:

hoping for a bulldog win this afternoon.
what a story that would make.

the battle for date street renewing of the old ilh days rivalry.
    private vs public
    ilh vs oia
    haves vs have nots
    coach vs ex-player/coach

sidenote: interesting that kaimuki head coach is a former iolani qb who played under still head coach wendell look.

  54. madeinhawaii:

someone on Sports Hawaii answered that question on whether two Hawaii QBs ever faced each other in D1 football before..

Jason Gesser (Wash) played against Darnell Arcenaux (Utah) in 2000. WSU beat Utah 38-21.

  55. madeinhawaii:

    Gosh durn.. Auburn scored... 7-24

  56. al:

comeback story of the year has got to waianae playing st louis for the d1. it renews the old priep bowl days when the two teams in blue n red battle each other almost every year.

    its another epic battle of...

    private vs public
    ilh vs oia
    haves vs have nots

although on paper st louis are overwhelming favorites you know the seariders will battle to the end and are a hot team of late. ask mililani.

we had so much food. i still haven't tried all the dishes that the family brought over.

  58. al:

if alabama stays the course and arizona beats oregon i wonder how the bcs moguls will finagle the polls so that bsu and/or tcu or at least one of them or both of them are out of the bcs championship game?

  59. 99club:

    #56-
Any chance of that prep bowl being online for the mainland Tsaikos?

  60. madeinhawaii:

Go... BAMA!!! 24-7.... ...11 secs remaining in the half. Auburn with the ball.

  61. madeinhawaii:

    SMU up 17-14 over ECU...

  63. madeinhawaii:

  64. Kazz:

    Oregon wins out.

Auburn will lose to Bama but beat SC in the SEC Championship game.

BSU and TCU all win out and guess what…

Oregon vs Auburn for the BCS National Championship Trust.

BSU to some BCS Bowl and TCU stays out.

  65. al:

    64...yup

  66. madeinhawaii:

SMU 24... ECU 14... SMU pulling away...

  67. d1島:

Wow, listening to the Iron Bowl on the rayjo and after the halftime report the p-b-p guys come back with,

"Auburn-Alabama coming back at the half and it's aaalllll tied!"

 I'm thinking, "What did I miss?"

That guy's gotta think about how he's phrasing things!

  68. 99club:

  71. al:

    what if...nevada upsets bsu.
smu wins out and becomes the confusa champs.

we could see the confus vs wac co-champs in the hawaii bowl?

  72. alnbama:

RainbowCliff, you can watch it on youe computer for free. Espn3 has it on there site. I've watched most road games there, not to bad quality with the right price. Hey man, still remember sitting next to you at the UNLV game, good times man.

  73. madeinhawaii:

    al,

Then it would be a showdown for perceived conference strength. All the pressure would be on the WAC co-champs.

  74. RainbowCliff:

#47 Al: Will LOVE to go see the bows BUT I have a new gig working at LAX.

Lead Inspector Cabin Security for American Airlines. Making sure ALL aircrafts
are free from any miscellaneous threats on board aircrafts. Security check entire
aircraft to make all pasengers and crew SAFE to fly !

Vigorous training and complete security orientation. Have LAX badge as I report
all fact finding information to LAX police and Air Operations Area.

Always loved the airlines as I worked in 1984 for Eastern Airlines. Have uniform, cap
and walkie talkie as Inspector Rainbow Cliff will be giving his signature to all AA flight
captains that they can fly the friendly skies with NO terriorists threats and all cabins are spick and span !

  75. madeinhawaii:

but then.. all the pressure would still be on Hawaii, anyway... would be embarrassing to lose to any of the runner-ups in CUSA.

  76. alnbama:

MIH, Bama going win, no worries brah

  77. madeinhawaii:

  84. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Watching the Bama game and from the aerial shot I notice one thing about the stadium that confuses me....

    Its about 100K capacity right?

Well...where the heck is the parking?!

  85. d1島:

    iwwthm,

IIRC parking is scattered around campus

  86. d1島:

fans on the mainland sometimes walk pretty long distances to get to the venues

  87. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Whoa that ECU coach could rival Mark Mangino...

  88. gigi-hawaii:

    Howdy ST and Tsaikos!

Well, I overcooked my turkey. The breast was supposed to register 170-175 degrees, but it registered 206 degrees, instead.

Not quite a disaster, though, cause the dark meat was juicy and tender.

We heated up freshly made HARRY'S TURKEY GRAVY from Costco. Excellent!

  89. madeinhawaii:

ECU in the RedZone..9 yard line.. 1st and goal

  90. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    d1,

thats true, i would love to see a bama game in that stadium one of these days.

i wonder if UH is working on another H-H series.

  91. alnbama:

iwonder, not alot of parking there. You park in someone's yard for about 20 buck's. RainbowCliff, would love to be in Vegas next year.

  92. madeinhawaii:

  95. Slugger:

OK, there's still time for Alabama to pull it out...

  96. madeinhawaii:

Wow.. both games experienced a change in leads at almost the same time...

  97. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Cam Newton keeping his stuff together...what a QB.

  117. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc (click my name for gifting ideas):

Slept in until 8 am and found a REAL PAPER at my desk. Read it from back to front as I always used to in about 40 minutes including national news, the editoral section and features - even scanned through all the ads. Went over to the computer to read the blogs and the updates only to discover that the modem was missing. DrDoc had gone over to Oceanic/TW in the Windward City Shopping Center to replace it which is why he bought the RP.

On-line editions take about two hours to read and the flashing ads are pain in the buttinsky.
so we're definitely going to go back to reading RPs.

Watching the AvA game - how can one state with such limited educational and economic achievements have such strong athletic programs. Guess the nationa;championship will be OvA after all.

Want to read some stupid - not mention poorly written & edited - comments about the Rainbow Warriors? Check out Jeff Portnoy's blog. Hard to believe that he is a very weathly & successful lawyer.

Off to sort more cans & bottles and then into town for the Wahine basketball tournament.

CLICK MY NAME FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE GREEN GIFTING SALE ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY. You can also call to make your selections during the sale.

After tomorrow's sale, we''ll be watching the second half of tomorrow's football game at Boardrider's before heading into town for another round of women's basketball.

Have a good day everyone. See you late this evening.

  118. d1島:

    WDoc,

I suppose one way to look at it is, "what would the state of things be without the football money?"

  119. madeinhawaii:

    What game is next?

  120. Kazz:

While the MWC presidents practically like the idea of looking at Hawaii as a member here are what some MWC fans think:

(Funny note, is that some of these comments are from CURRENT fans of WAC teams and not long-standing MWC members)

    One Boise State fan's comment:

    Hawaii Fan:
Dont you think that Hawaii gives you a better chance to qualify for BCS rating?

I dont think the bottom MWC teams are doing you any favors in comparison to what we could do.

Look at our last decade rankings, and you will see that it makes sense to add us over Fresno or Nevada.

We've beaten both of them this year.

I just dont understand why people start bashing.

BSU fan:More than the current year matters. Travel costs are an issue and while Hawaii may be better than the bottom teams it's not by enough to offset the costs.

That playing at Hawaii with their thugs fans is something most of us can do without. How many other programs have had to have their HC record public service messages reminding fans what good sportsmanship is all about?
    None

    From a Fresno State fan:

No hate here for Hawaii very opposite. I think that they are a great team that is under appreciated. I hope that they join. The people who are hating on Hawaii are the people who just plan ol' HATE on everything. I welcome Hawaii into the MWC! Aloha Hawaii I am glad that Fresno and Hawaii will be continuing their rivary. I think that most Fresno State Fan would say the same.

One Idaho fan's opinion in response to the backlash against Hawaii joining the MWC:

sure, but I think Hawaii will do just fine beating up on UNLV, CSU, SDSU, CSU, Wyoming, UNM. They will have no problem staying in the middle of the pack. You guys act like the MWC is that much tougher than the old wac at the bottom and it's not. But time will tell how well they fit in.

    A Wyoming fan chimes in:

No hate here either. I like your football team and am looking forward to some "road trips".

I do need to note, however, that Wyoming's record vs. Hawaii is 12-8, with the last time we played being in 1997 which Wyo won 35-6, on the island. This was the first year of Dana Dimel and Wyo's start from contender to pretender.

The last time you came to Laramie was the year before. The Pokes brought down the hammer, laying it on the Bows 66-0.

You guys sure you want to sign back up for a trip to Laramie every other year?

An eloquent post from a TCU fan:

I don't hate Hawaii. I don't like how far they are from TCU and I don't like that dance they do before games.

A poster that I cannot identify who he or she is a fan of:

I don't disagree. Still, other than the VonAppen years, their football program has been consistently better than the dregs of the Mountain West so with the uptick in recruiting they should benefit from by getting out of the WAC, I see them becoming a middle of the road MWC team. Pretty much the same as Nevada and Fresno, I would say. Occasionally challenging for the title, occasionally battling to stay out of the cellar. But generally somewhere around the middle. They certainly have more HS football talent to draw from than some of the current MWC schools.

    A Utah fan:

I don't like WAC teams or their fans no matter what Utah's record is..

That's my issue.. The WAC is scum and their fans shouldn't be here.

  121. madeinhawaii:

If they don't already, maybe Hawaii should invite the University Presidents, Chancellors, and ADs to a game of golf before each game.

  122. al:

cam newton as good as advertised. reminds of a very good kapernick.

smu is in. nice job staving off a hungry ecu team.

  123. Kazz:

    As D1 said,

Cam Newton was indeed money well spent by Auburn...

  124. al:

  129. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Arizona needs to run a play action fake...spread the damn receivers out more. wth damnit.

  130. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

What kind of play calling is going on with Arizona.

  131. Pomai:

Ralph no moah phone. Staying home tonight with da kids.

  132. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Did anyone just see Chip Kelly complaining about the kicker pointing at him...LOL

  133. longboarder:

    Where did Steve-O go?

I have to work today and I am still waiting for his nonsense to pop up.

Just think Steve you can play with your new Legos in exactly a month!

  134. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

That crowd at Autzen stadium sounds ridiculously loud....

  135. LizKauai -iPad:

alnbama- nice to see you! We are planning to go to UNLV next Sept. 17. Hope you can make it!

  136. Kazz:

Oregons field looks really really really nice on HDTV...I wonder if Hawaii's field would look that if we broadcasted in HD.

Ching Field WOULD look like that in HD, but the Aloha Stadium turf would look like an old doormat.

Oregon is the beneficiary of Nike's Phil Knight dumping $300,000,000.00 into that school.

    $300,000,000.00 CAN buy success.

I'm proud of what UH has done with what little the athletic department actually recoups from the money they bring into the university thru ticket sales, licensing, merchandise (which they STILL dont get their fair share of), etc...

But things can and MUST be better.

  138. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    Stoops is livid...LOL

  139. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Kazz, I think it was $100,000,000...LOL...I think UH would be happy with 1/4 of that.

Do we have any super rich alumni?

  140. d1島:

    longboarder/Steve,

Can't you guys just exchange e-mails and keep the kaka off the blog?

Perhaps the Blog Host can facilitate that upon his return?

  141. Kazz:

    Collectively it's been $300,000,000.00.

Used to work with an Oregon alum in our investment division at the bank and he confirmed the MADNESS.

  142. Kazz:

I dunno... is Jimmy Borges rich? A billionare?

Must be because I keep seeing him around on TV for some reason.

  143. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    Kazz,

LOL...i think with Borges you gotta knock like 7 0's off that figure haha.

  144. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Arizona needs to avoid the melt down. They been doing so well thus far...Keep the pressure on and roast some duck...damnit

  145. Kazz:

    I'm calling it.

    Boise State 66
    Nevada 3

    Pau.

  146. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Kazz, you sure?...So I can go house and lot on Boise on both the half and game?

  147. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

I think its going to be 49 - 14 Boise.

Btw if Arizona can't stop a FOURTH down conversion like that they don't deserve to win this game....

  148. d1島:

    iwwthm,

    Sorry. No duck tonite.

Hopefully, I'll be cheering for some more successful Wildcats tomorrow.

  149. d1島:

Time to head over to the stadium.

    Go Crusaders!

  150. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    Good lord this is awful....

  151. 99club:

Watching the Iolani vs Kaimuki game on streaming video...the turf does look pretty beat. Surprised that there aren't more folks in the stands for a championship game.

  152. Keva Herriage:

Thank you for your blog.Much thanks again. Cool.

  153. 99club:

Dang. Kaimuki did a nice hook and ladder but fumbled on the end of the play. 14-0 Iolani near the end of the 1st half.

  154. bighilofan2:

dat does it!... callin us scum???

  156. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

what channel is ESPN CLassic on?

  157. LizKauai -iPad:

Kids have dvr recording on both channels. Grrrr. Have the computer set to ESPN3 to catch Boise/Nev

  158. homey ℞:

gigi - you don't make your own turkey gravy? What about stuffing, mashed potatoes, desserts, and other sides?

  159. madeinhawaii:

Hmm.. hard to believe it's only 3-0 in favor of Boise after the first qtr.

  160. LizKauai -iPad:

    Capernack.
    Hmmm

  161. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

How sick would it be if we had Moore and Avery in addition to Salas and Pilares....

  162. longboarder:

guess the blog cop is out.

Does steve even use email? or does his mom prohibit him from using the computer after the 9:00 PM news?

Steve, you're still a clown no matter how you put it.

That ain't kaka. It's the truth.

    Stay classy STEVE!

  163. gmahoney:

    Boise just getting warmed up.

  164. whitey:

Good afternoon to all you Tsaikos. GO WARRIORS!!!!

  165. madeinhawaii:

Now it's starting to look like a Boise-Nevada game.. 17 zip

  166. Kit Spraker:

    Wow, what an adventure!

  167. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

  168. bighilofan2:

howzit Warriors. hope y'all doing well in Tx tonight.
get a good rest. day ah reckoning for da Aggies tomorrow.

    Go Warriors!!!

  169. madeinhawaii:

I was going to cheer for Nevada.. then I got to thinking... that might actually be disrespectful of our Warriors.... so I started thinking I'd better cheer for Boise... then I remembered the Warriors were going to be cheering for Nevada for a share of the championship... then the game started and Boise took the lead...

I think, I gonna cheer for the winner!

Whichever side that might be.. :-)

  170. 702WarriorFan:

    Happy belated Thanksgiving to Tsaikos.

    mih,
Understand the conundrum you face, however, I'd rather UH
hold second in WAC than to share first place which would incl. Reno.
Sorry but, by being ahead of Reno, we'd get more respect with our win over Reno having them also ranked below us in WAC final standings. Of course I'm counting my turkey for tomorrow game.

  171. Kazz via DROID.X:

    POMAI,

RALPH WANTS TO KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING TO WAHINE BASKETBALL TOMORROW AT 7PM?

  172. Chee!:

Man, Moore and Young are dialed in......

  173. jm2375:

Boise is a very good team and Reno isn't as good as they think they are. BSU will put the beat down on them like have with every other team this season.

  174. Chee!:

Nevada receivers can't catch a cold...

  175. bighilofan2:

i dunno... da donks are kinda holdin dare a$$es right now, doncha tink? :D

  176. gmahoney:

Come on Boise! OMG, what am I saying?

  177. madeinhawaii:

Wahine BB taking it to North Carolina Central... up by 19 with 3 minutes left in the first half.

  178. Chee!:

Nevada is putting up a good fight albeit home field advantage....

  179. madeinhawaii:

Eh...? I just saw Nevada punt the ball .. when to the toilet.. came back.. how come they have the ball again? LOL

  180. madeinhawaii:

    Wahine up by 22... !

  181. madeinhawaii:

    Chee!

I think you're right. Boise must be exhausted from all that travelling.

  182. bighilofan2:

ho boyz da wolf just woke me up.

  183. LizKauai (macbook):

    Nevada wants it badly!

  184. madeinhawaii:

Nevada is making it a game.

Boise saw how we handled Nevada and came up with a quick release game plan and a method to pressure our Qback... Nevada saw the Hawaii - Boise game and came up with their own versions of the 2 second play.

  185. bighilofan2:

    Hawaii wants it badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  186. LizKauai (macbook):

    GO WAHINE!

  187. bighilofan2:

gotta give credit where its doo doo.

  189. bighilofan2:

    yah... da wahinebows lookin good...

  190. madeinhawaii:

Hope the Wahine can come out and finish up strong.. no mercy.. keep playing hard and wrap up this game early so that the other side won't even dream of creeping back by fouling our players in the last two minutes.

  191. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

This is NOT the same Nevada we played against...

  192. madeinhawaii:

Nevada is all fired up.. they must be feeling the momentum on their side and feeding off of that.

  193. bighilofan2:

    dang. Nevada holdin dare own.

  194. madeinhawaii:

Boise knows that one loss means no BCS for them. At best.. play at home.. Humanitarian Bowl... If Nevada wins.. it's probably the Kraft bowl...

  195. LizKauai (macbook):

hateme-this is not the Boise we played against!

  196. Hank:

    #195@LizKauai...oh yes!

  197. madeinhawaii:

Nah.. same ole..same ole.. both sides got good tape to watch when Hawaii played each... dang it! ... Nevada is playing a lot of misdirection and fast execution plays.. 2-3 seconds at the most. Not too much sitting in the pocket and waiting for a play to develop.

  198. 99club:

    Tie game in Reno.

  199. madeinhawaii:

    Tied game! :o

  200. madeinhawaii:

Wahine start the second half on a tear.. up by 26 now..

    And conditioning...

  206. Kazz via DROID.X:

  207. madeinhawaii:

  243. madeinhawaii:

When was the last time the Wahine took a 30 point lead? When was the last time they scored that much in a first half? LOL... good game for the Wahine.

  244. Hank:

...i wonder if Brotzman would that for us again?...LOL!

  245. LizKauai (macbook):

  246. LizKauai (macbook):

    YEAH WAHINE!!!!

  247. 99club:

  255. Slugger:

My friend Ken doing stats for Reno must be having a great time at this game. I can't imagine I'm rooting for Reno...

  256. Jason:

I, too, can't believe I'm rooting for Nevada. Every time I see Chris Ault, I have to remind myself: "WAC championship."

  257. 99club:

If our Warriors win tomorrow, they are WAC co-CHAMPIONS!

  258. Matt:

    UNR FG!!!!!

  259. Chee!:

  270. bighilofan2:

I can't believe i just said dat...

must be my good side. :D

  271. jm2375:

HOLY SH$T!! Dang. Wanted traitors to lose.

  272. labrat:

As I have said before Boise's weakness is their kicking game. Nevada's d also put the hit on Moore.

  273. Matt:

We can be co-champs if we win tomorrow. We better destroy NMSU now.

  274. Jamal Chais:

I'm onto day two. again. Yesterday was good at first, but then partner and I had a disagreement during the night, I'm so depressed now, I know I don't want any weed, I really don't, but wish that I could get out of my head, I can't shut it up, it hurts.

  275. bb:

    LMAO...Rose to Humanitarian

    Boise FAIL!

  276. protector:

As much as it pains me to say this, have to say my hat's off to the Wolfpack for that impressive performance; one that I had hoped UH could do against Boise. Oh well, at least it means that UH has a share of the WAC crown if they take care of business? Go Warriors!

  277. johnp:

We needed to run the ball vs. Boise ...

  278. LizKauai (macbook):

OK- WARRIORS- GO GET THAT WAC CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

  279. Slugger:

OK, now we gotta win tomorrow to share the da WAC title.

  286. Matt:

Warriors need to take care of business tomorrow. Hope our guys can get some sleep tonight.

  287. Townieboy:

I guess that ends the arrogance on the OneBroncoNationUnderGod.com

  288. Da Punchbowl Kid:

One more game to become WAC co-champs!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  289. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Ya gotta love Waianae's heart. Its a good game so far!

GO WARRIORS!!!! There goes the money!! HAHAHAHA, Here comes the WAC Championship!!! Let's take care of business tomorrow and then the 2nd GOAL accomplished!!!!!

    GO WARRIORS BEAT the dingos!!!!

  299. Pride.:

Can't believe that the game of football has no respect for the name on a team's uniform.

  300. bighilofan2:

    Nevada was relentless...
    fast paced... really fast.

  301. Pride.:

    3rd Down Conversion %

    Nevada - 53%
    Boise State - 40%

  302. Matt:

Nevada should take Boise's spot in the Humanitarian Bowl and then send Boise to the New Mexico Bowl. That would be the ultimate kick in the pants to Boise on their way out of the WAC.

  303. gmahoney:

No, the Waianae vs St. Louis game.

  304. labrat:

    Jackson Five was on tonight.

  305. Pride.:

Boise State defense lacked the conditioning for four quarters of play, much less a full game + an overtime.

  306. expat:

What a finish. I called that upset back before we beat Reno. Kap has always played Boise State tight and it has been so long since Boise has been threatened that late that if a team could keep it tight late in the game there might be a chance. Note that I was wrong in thinking that Fresno would handle Nevada in Fresno -- although they squeaked through by only a point.

The amazing thing is that Nevada tried so hard to choke in the end and Boise just wouldn't let them -- very un-Boise-like. Who would have thunk that Brotzman, a thorn in everyone's side for the last four years, would miss two short field goals in the end to seal their fate? Poor guy has been injured but if he was not physically up to it than it was a coaching error. Boise to the Humanitarian bowl, eh? Sucks to be them.

Time to Warrior up and keep composed against NMSU & get that trophy.

  307. madeinhawaii:

    Wahine BB ... a blow out by 35 points!... 82-47! :o

  308. labrat:

Matt they should send the Donks to the Hawaii Bowl. I want to play them again.

  309. madeinhawaii:

wow... McMackin has a chance of getting his first WAC title in his third year as HC... heh .. THIRD as a coach for Hawaii.... pretty cool.

  310. Pride.:

Warriors need to learn from that Nevada-Boise game. Gotta bring your lunch pail to work everyday. Every game is a dogfight. Nobody is going to rollover for you. Not even the Las Cruces Aggies.

Always be careful of the opponent that has nothing to lose, and a lot to prove.

Every single one of us will do whatever it takes to get respect. We'll bite, scratch, and claw to get it. A man who is down and has nothing to fight for other than respect, is a dangerous man. The Aggies are dangerous.

Warriors need to have the right attitude and temperament tomorrow. They will be in a dogfight.

  311. coconutchaser:

Go get that championship title Warriors! If we can't have it alone, then nobody else should! Get in there and get yours!!!!!!

  312. Pride.:

Nevada offensive and defensive lines won the game tonight. Great job on both ends. They won't get credit from the media. But, that is where the game was won. "Big uglies" were the difference.

  313. 99club:

Oops! #257, I wrote too soon. All three teams: NV, UH, and Boise have one WAC game left. Nevada's on the road to La Tech in what could be a classic let down game after such an emotional win, and Boise hosts Utah State. If Hawaii wins tomorrow, that would guarantee at least a share of the WAC title. If both NV and Boise lose next week, however unlikely, Hawaii would then be outright WAC champions.

  314. Bandit:

Take care of biz tomorrow and the Warriors have a chance for the title outright. Next week Boise facing Utah St and Nevada @ LaTech!

There was talk about CUSA sending their champ to the Hawaii Bowl and talk about SMU having to go to their own bowl. What happens if SMU wins the championship next week?

  315. warrior:

hahaha. one guy on the WSN board said that the broncos are going to end up in teh HUMILIATION bowl instead of the humanitarian bowl hahahha. dang. cant believe that just happened but happy for us

  316. sectionLL:

Bosie needs a conditioning coach and next time offer a scholarship to a decent kicker not rely on a walk-on

  317. labrat:

WAC teams going to bowls need to win their games. I feel that the WAC is much stronger than a lot of people think they are.

  318. 99club:

Check out al's #71. Nice one.

  319. NorthShoreFan:

Note to Warriors...DO NOT EAT TURKEY FOR PREGAME MEAL!

Scientific fact that the bird has some sort of chemical that causes....euphoria or in other terms..Polynesian Paralysis!...Might make you too content....LOL!

WARRIORS...BALLS TO THE WALL...NO MERCY....and..GIVE MR. MANLEY THE WARRIOR ALOHA!....Introduce yourselves one by one everytime you get off him!

THIS IS FOR A SHARE OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

  320. 99club:

The White House would not say who's elbow caught the President, but there's a new posting on USAJOBS for a Secret Service agent position. Hmmmmm.....

  321. Matt:

    labrat,

They're not going to have two WAC teams play each other in the bowl game. C-USA is the designated opponent in Hawaii Bowl. JJ's SMU team is bowl eligible, but they are either going to the Liberty Bowl (if they win the C-USA championship) or the Armed Forces Bowl (being played in their home stadium this year). Either Boise or Nevada will probably end up in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco. WAC has a tie-in with them this year.

  322. Kazz via DROID.X:

That smile on Kaepernick's face is not worth sharing a WAC title with those classless fools.

  323. madeinhawaii:

Boise will probably go to the Humanitarian bowl as it is in their own house.. that leaves Nevada to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl... ..

We could have a WAC Champion in three separate bowls... how's that for multi-tasking, eh?

GO WARRIORS! TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS TOMORROW! NO LET UP!!

  324. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc (click my name for gifting ideas):

That's two big-time winning teams in the WAC hitting the pavement in the same week. Interesting indeed.

DrDoc won the Best Seats in the House drawing tonight.

Kazz: You were kind of off in your Boise/Nevada prediction.

    I'm calling it.

    Boise State 66
    Nevada 3

    Pau.

  325. Bandit:

How's about the WAC Champion Warriors and the C-USA Champs SMU in the Hawaii Bowl? Da house would be rockin. Das what.

  326. 99club:

I smell a let-down game for Nevada at La Tech next week.

  327. HiFlyer:

    99club - I hope your right.

  328. Bulla:

    319 NSF
I agree, sure wish 'the beast' could reintroduce himself to Manley, haha, but our Warriors will take care of business!

  329. Bulla:

312 Pride, you are right, it wasn't pretty, but it was effective........belated happy thanksgiving my brother, hope all is well....have fun at the Tsaiko-gate, we're in all day rehearsal for our Christmas production at church :)

  330. K. Mark Takai:

What a game! Go Warriors! Kick some da kine.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  331. 4UH:

Congrats to Wolfpack for that major comeback! Gotta admit, it was a great game to watch on TV! Nevada's fans never stopped pushing their team! Time for UH to get to serious business... do not take NMSU lightly! That is why the game is played! Stay focused... and warm! The WAC Championship is waiting!
    GO WARRIORS!

  332. Lopaka43:

    Aloha Tsaiko Ohana!!

What an incredible outcome tonight. After years of watching Boise play near perfect football, and make amazing comeback runs, it felt weird to see them fall apart on a simple field goal play.

I think this is a good illustration why moving to the MWC for football and to the Big West for all other sports will be a good move for our teams. Playing against better teams throughout the schedule prepares you to handle the tough games when it comes time to play for championships. I think Pride was right about how Boise was not in game condition by the time the fourth quarter arrived.

And definitely mixed emotions. I really could not bring myself to root for Nevada, even when I knew it meant we could end as WAC co-champions.

Amazing season for Hawaii!! Still in shock at this turn-of-events, but very proud of our Warriors for all they have accomplished this year.

    Go Warriors!! Go Bows!!

  333. NYUH:

Not exactly an Ault fan but the pistol was probably the significant innovation in college football this year. They had some nice drives at the end. Would not want to be the BS kicker. Ouch!

Looking forward to the game later today. Nothing like watching your own team!

  334. Kazz via DROID.X:

CONGRATS TO BIG VICTORIES BY TWO DESERVING TEAMS!!!

CONGRATS TO SAINT LOUIS FOOTBALL AND RAINBOW WAHINE BASKETBALL!!!

  335. WreckinEyez:

BLAH... that game drove me nuts too... I couldn't watchi it after a while... I agree with Kazz on everything...

  336. Ralph:

    Pomai you got e mail.

  337. Townieboy:

    Jumbled feelings tonight...

We could have used the money from a BSU BCS Bowl win. It will be nice if we win out and the team gets bling and Mac gets a bonus check. And I feel like I have to take another shower because I was rooting for Nevada. Yeeeech.

  338. chawan_cut:

    Go Warriors!!!!
    Focus tomorrow!!!!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyp_ZFsQjGA

  339. Curt:

What a surprise to see Nevada pulling it out over Boise. That place kicker must be having trouble sleeping tonight.

I like the idea of being co-champs. On the other hand, I wanted to see BSU blow out Oregon or Auburn in the national championship game.

  340. Curt:

    Pomai,

    UH 24 NMS 0

By the way, who won last week's contest?

  341. social media marketing:

Did I already tell you just how I enjoy each and every subjects on your site ?

  342. SteveM:

Co-WAC champions is better than 2nd place.
    Gotta beat NaMaSu for this.
    GO WARRIORS!

...just catching up... seems I missed Black Friday because of something I ate on Turkey Thursday. :|

  343. SteveM:

    Yea RK!

OK...serious question... I didn't eat anything solid all day, but can handle solid food (I think). So if I have lunch tomorrow, what is better for a slightly tender tummy... chicken katsu with spicy sauce or a half pound burger with fries? :?

  344. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc (click my name for gifting ideas):

SteveM: Don't eat anything fried or spicy if you're recovering from a running stomach. Instead, eat ice cream, cake, pie, cookies - anything tasty & easily digested.

  345. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

I would SOOOO HATE being Brotzman right now...especially with Boise being such a small place...I feel sorry for the kid and the kind of crap he is going to get just walking around town etc.

I hope Boise fans will show some compassion...as hard as it may be.

  346. Hawaiianbod:

SteveM - sounds like we're in the same boat (although i wish it was a cruise. heheh). Good luck to u!

  347. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

According to Idaho Statesmen sports writer Nick Jizierny people with last name of Broztman getting harassing phone calls from fans.

    http://twitter.com/nickjezierny

    Its a freaking GAME people...wth?!?!

  348. Hawaiianbod:

IWWTHM - that is sad! I wonder if those fans go to the same therapist as Steve?

  349. Matt:

Hey umm.. Kraft Bowl gets the first place WAC (unless they are in a big bowl of course).. So Kraft gets to pick between Nevada or Boise...
They will play against the #6 Pac-10 if enough make a bowl (which they wont)
or #9 ACC...which is clemson, boston college, georgia tech, maryland or north carolina at this moment..

  350. Pomai:

First I have to say that Reno did not win this game, BSu lost it. The team that played in the first half was not the same team that played in the second. If that first half team had showed up for the second it would have been a very different outcome, just look at the stats by half.

I don't like BSu but I can't stand Skinnylegs and Shorty even more, they are not that good but they are luckey I'll have to admit. But I will give credit to that kid Tua he was hurt for almost the whole game but kept hitting the holes for good yardage.

I will be rooting for LaTech next week, I so want to see someone lay the lumber on Skinny.

  351. bighilofan2:

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

Rise and shine, Warriors! Rise and shine!

  352. bighilofan2:

    Pomai..

you tooo funny! skinny & shorty... i love it..

  353. mctruck:

The sorry issue of this season is the multi-win/loss records of teams from the BigEast which qualifies to play in a BCS bowl game....pathetic!!!, Oh, whatthehey!!, the ACC as well....did I mention, PATHETIC!!

  354. mctruck:

After watching the game between Alabama/Auburn......looks like Alabama gave the game to Auburn seeing how they were out of the picture to play for the National Championship...just had to get an SEC team in there.....just sayin.
