Good characters welcome
By Stephen Tsai
An early step in the job-seeking process is the interview, and three former UH football players — Greg Salas, Kealoha Pilares and Alex Green — should do well when they meet with representatives from NFL teams at today's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
All have good-character ratings and clean abstracts. All come from good family backgrounds.
Journeys are easier when the paths are not bumpy.

In most cases, a losing record is the primary cause for a coaching change. That helps extend the honeymoon period for the successor's first season. When June Jones took over in 1999, all he needed to do was win one game to exceed his predecessor. That he won nine games his first year led to "June Jones for Governor" bumper stickers.
Still, tolerant support from fans and administrators does not always translate into success, which is why it is a significant accomplishment that the Rainbow Warrior basketball team is poised to clinch a WAC Tournament berth if it can beat Louisiana Tech tonight. UH has managed to overcome injuries and other circumstances. It's been a good start.
* * * * *
It appears that at the end of UH indoor sports' season, renovations will begin in the Stan Sheriff Center. There's even talk of replacing the scoreboard.
* * * * *
Happy birthday to the queen of marketing, Jennifer Doran.
Also happy birthday to UH's Cheryl Pang.

#164(from last blog) - RedZone - One thing I like about what Coach Coolen has done is that he is re-loading rather than re-building. 2013 is going to be a tough year as we lose 8 players but if we keep getting the quality of players as freshmen all is good.

I'm up early because I'm going to an exercise class this morning.
Well, I'm going to see an exercise class this morning.
Part of one...
OK, it's an old friend I have not seen for years....so I'm like a guy going to a chick flick just to see the chick. Unfortunately, she's married. Besides, she tempted me with lunch after...

February 24th, 2011 at 8:49 am
In Coolen's office — the tidiest on campus, to be sure — there's a board with names placed at the different positions. The names are written on labels that are color-coded based on a player's class standing. That allows Coolen to know which area he needs to address in future years. I guess that's why he is able to easily reload each year.
The football coaches have been doing the same thing.

Good luck to the Big 3. Best wishes for their smooth road to success.
What does Gib Arnold have that Bob Nash lacked? I think it is passion and fire for the game that ignited the BB Warriors. Go Hawaii.

Good Morning Gangeez!
Right here Tom!
The men's basketball team has had its ups and downs and a tourney booth is good. I expect to se them get even better over the next few seasons. Same with the women's teams. I see good foundations being laid for both programs.
Top Twenny!
February 24th, 2011 at 9:05 am
I like Bob Nash. I think in some ways, he was too loyal and didn't make all of the changes he knew he should have made.
And he's a really nice guy, unlike when he was a player and had that scary-mean streak. He tolerated some stuff last year that he wouldn't stand for in his younger years.

That's why Tony Tuioti is going to be a great coach.

Punchbowl Kid, glad the black mamba shirt got to you as he will once again LEAD us to an NBA World Championship. Met the Black Mamba his first year while he was doing full court dribbling drills on the forum floor. Back then I was doing Lakers in arena give aways with my kids of the Wooten Center and I had access to the entire arena. Had picture and pen ready for the Black Mamba to sign and he was pissed off at me when I interrupted his drill. But when he saw my sweet little Wooten girl with his jersey on it got to his softer side. Signed the picture made out in my name and took picture with the Wooten girl and autograph the jersey. Once finished dashed off to continue his drill. Black Mamba was something else as he was just 18 back then. I hear he is more approachable as I can honestly say that it was myself and my Wooten girl softening him up to fans who admired and respected his game.

Great story Rainbow Cliff!
First saw the Black Mamba play in person at the Sheriff Center back when they still had Shaq. Paid $65 bucks to sit in the nosebleeds but got my money's worth before the game even started with the layup lines.
Mamba was 360 slamming and putting on a show. It was awesome. We were always taught not to "force" shots, but Mamba was forcing 3 pointers over two guys - and all net.
Man, he was impressive.

#29 Kapahulu: The e-mail I have listed is not to be written down exactly like that. The way it is typed is not to let hackers get a hold of personal e-mail accounts. Just sound it out and type it as an e-mail address with gmail.com being the end and cliffsanchez being the first. Remember @ after my last name and then you got it !
Glad to hear from you as I have your shirt !
If some how you still can't e-mail me you can leave your address on the blog BUT for privacy issues I rather communicate by e-mail as my 101 class is easy to pass as I have given you the RIGHT clues. You can "DO THIS" just read and type the last sentence in the first paragraph !
Look forward hearing from you !

We'll find out a lot about the Rainbow Wahine starting today.
It reminds me of when Washington came to town last season. It's a good test to see where we are this early on and for players that have started doing well like Kliebenstein and Robinson we'll see what they can do against top tier WCWS level competition.
For our returning five slammers in the order, we know what they can bring so it's just a matter of seeing what they have learned from facing aces like Langenfeld, Dunne and Fowler last year.
For our defense, Jessica Iwata has been pretty steady at SS and she and the rest of the infield will have a chance to see real good speed today and the rest of the week onto the weekend. 2nd base will have a chance to shine and show something as well.
For our pitchers the story remains the same. Can both Ricketts and Parnaby hold their own against strong and talented bats? If they get hit, can they still have confidence in their batters and infield to keep marching along?
This is not football, with a minimum of 42 regular season games more to go (including WAC play) it's still fairly young.
While we will not end up having a strong RPI like last year, the more wins against teams like Oklahoma and Virginia helps us in the NCAA seeding, but there is a matter of the WAC championship we aim to win again this season and not just the regular season title, but the tourney title as well. New Mexico State is playing well and Fresno State looks to be more explosive offensively this season, but their depth at pitcher looks to be a few notches down.
TODAY, Oklahoma is strong. They WILL get hits and I am more than confident Coach Coolen has Parnaby and Ricketts ready.
Simple as that. Today is what matters. Today we play Oklahoma. Today we'll just see what happens.
February 24th, 2011 at 11:38 am
Is sidearm stats the only way to track the SB game?
February 24th, 2011 at 11:43 am
Mano Mist: Black Mamba will go down as the GREATEST Laker basketball player even passing Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Elgin and Jerry West. The young man can just flat out play and has ice water in his veins. Prolific scorer any where on the court and has always been a good defender. Tireless worker at his game as he is getting older with 17 years as a pro. Has a good four or five years left with nothing but CHAMPIONSHIPS in his arsenal. His post and mid range game are unstoppable and he keeps himself in tremendous shape. Has two BEAUTIFUL girls and despite the mess he had in Colorado he keeps him self out of the headlines from negative behavior. DPK has his original shirt as I hope one day you will see him wearing it. FANTASTIC player with FIVE NBA World championship rings and playing for SIX !

Never really cared for Kobe when he first entered the league. Thought he was too cocky for his own good. As the years past though I gotta respect the mans game as he has risen his level of play to Michael Jordan status. Kobe is hands down the best player in the world right now... Until you can carry a team and win championships on the regular, you may be good but not great. Which is why I give guys like Lebron James no love. Could've won it with Cleveland and prove he belonged but now with the Heat, he's just another prima-donna type to me. DWade is the man in Miami not Lebron!
February 24th, 2011 at 12:18 pm
Good article, lots of intersting things to digest. Very informative
February 24th, 2011 at 12:30 pm
The screen on the scoreboard at the Stanley shoud be one of the top priorities.
Overall, other than some ceiling tiles that need to be replaced in the booster room and in the back hallways on the floor level, the arena is pretty well-maintained.
February 24th, 2011 at 12:37 pm
SteveM, Don't forget to wear a raincoat. Weather reports it may rain today. Ok couldn't help it.

I just so happens that the Black Mamba is one of Sweety's favorite NBAers. He went to high school in her old 'hood.

#42 Puao Boy: Yes, Kobe attitude was tough to many on dealing with it as I saw it first hand up close when I interrupted his dribbling drill. If I did not have my Wooten girl cutie along I would of got chewed out somthing terrible. To his credit he has matured a great deal and become a better team mate. When you are told how GREAT you are and can be at 18 years of age then it will take life lessons along the way to bring you to a humble disposition.
One thing for sure he can play the game as good as Mike and has better range then Jordan. The boy just wants to WIN and be the BEST at his craft. He is the BEST PLAYER in the League and has 5 rings to prove it. Was determine to win a championship with out Shaq as they grew tired of one another in their early careers. Big decesion in LA to keep Kobe and get rid of Shaq as we were all divided. Management made the right decesion to keep the young stud and bank all of the Laker franchise on his shoulders. Turned out to be the right move as Kobe is still rising and Shaq has been on the decline for quite some time. Still hoping we retire the Big Diesel number as we wouldn't of won back to back to back NBA World Championships with out the Big Aristotle !
February 24th, 2011 at 1:07 pm
Dang. The surface streets are "interesting", and I-5 North bound is at a complete stop. Must be some clown with 4-wheel drive or a guy over compensating with his oversized truck (that never sees dirt) messing things up for a lot of folks.
Usually takes me 15 minutes to get to the doctor's office. Took me well over 30 minutes to get there. Geez.
Looks like school is out tomorrow, too. Things are freezing up real solid already.
I've already postponed our region contests slated for this Saturday.
This is crazy. I wish the folks on the other side of the hill would come and pick up their weather.

Is something wrong with the scoreboard in the SSC?
February 24th, 2011 at 1:26 pm
lava,
If y u can re d thi wit out any roblem th n you would 't not ce the pro lem with t e SSC sco eboar .
February 24th, 2011 at 1:28 pm
Lava - #53 - each side of the scoreboard is made up of many tv screens. At least one screen is out on each of the 4 sides. There are projection screens in the corners, but because of the lighting, the pictures are washed out and hard to see. Not sure if the main scoreboard is the original one from 1994.
February 24th, 2011 at 1:29 pm
d1 - #54 -
February 24th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
d1- ditto jm
February 24th, 2011 at 1:35 pm
The scoreboard itself is not really an issue. The stats and game clock, etc are all fine and functional and easy to still see.
It's the poor condition the big screen is in that is the problem.
It's that old version where you have smaller tile-style monitors to make up one big one and several of the tile monitors are blown out leading to an image with various blank spots.
I remember when they showed the replay of a foul in the arena once and on the screen where it would have shown the physical contact of one player's hand to another's head it happened to be where a blown tile is. Everyone in the arena "booed" and I don't think it was because of the play. A lot of people were laughing and shaking their head at the condition of this one piece of equipment.
Here's the kicker, apparently NO ONE makes these kinds of screens anymore.
So UH is going to have to buy a new one.
The thing is, a few years ago UH installed four large projection-style screens at the top of the arena but the resolution with these are so bad that it's still hard to see the image clearly even when you sit in the upper level that is the closest to these things.
It's too bad because I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but before the home team starters are announced for basketball or volleyball, they play this new intro video with what looks like nice graphics and quick game still photos accompanied by dramatic loud music. It only lasts about 5-7 seconds and they play this before the PA announcer starts naming the starters for the UH team.
With essentially FIVE bad screens, you can really only hear the music as again it's really hard to clearly see the video piece they put together.
February 24th, 2011 at 1:37 pm
JM,
They have to be the same ones from 1994. Just like how the softball stadium lights are the same damn ones from 19 diggity two.
You see, "diggity" had to be used then since the Kaiser some of the numbers. Oh man, my great grandfather and his troops had a hell of a time chasing that crazy Kaiser all over Europe.
This was a time when they wore onions on their belts and moon pie was one strawberry penny.
Why where an onion you say? Well, this was the style at the time.
February 24th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
I read this fine, but I still hate the screen on the scoreboard.
February 24th, 2011 at 1:41 pm
Actually, in doing some research, I found that King Kamehameha I actually brought over those lights for the softball field as part of an attempted trade to take the island of Oahu peacefully.
Meanwhile, Kamehameha I had his troops resting and training over at Klum Gym.
The lights were eventually left on Oahu following the Battle at the Pali as King Kamehameha I felt it would be a sign of goodwill.
February 24th, 2011 at 1:43 pm
It's a good thing those lights at the softball stadium are holding up. It would be a shame if practice had to be cut short because of safety issues in case one pole blows out leaving the infield partially in the dark.
Oh wait.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
February 24th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
Yes, those lights are quite old.
They were still "new" at a time in our country when it was fashionable to tie a yellow ribbon around an oak tree for some damn reason...
February 24th, 2011 at 1:49 pm
Aloha RainbowCliff! I just emailed u my address in norcal. Feel free to email me back if u have questions. Awesome to know that I'll be getting something from a fellow Laker fan. Thanks again for putting up the shirts. Peace!

Go Wahine.

February 24th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
In an earlier game, Oklahoma State beat Georgia by a 1-0 score. First loss for Georgia, the #1/#3 rated team in the nation. Two 1-0 scores in a row. Not unusual for the top teams who usually have overpowering pitchers.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
Oklahoma St beat Georgia 1-0; Georgia beat Oklahoma 1-0
February 24th, 2011 at 2:56 pm
Ike said OK State beat Georgia.
Did Georgia play before their loss to the Sooners?
February 24th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
Oklahoma St. beat Santa Barabara 9-1 in 5 inn in their first game; BYU loses two games, to Florida St 6-4 and to Virginia 9-3
February 24th, 2011 at 2:59 pm
Ok. So the Rainbow Wahibe are suiting up at 5ish im the PM.
They usually practice in the afternoon back home.
Early games in the PM showed a slow start to our bats.
All of our games in this tourney fall on the PM where we yielded better results, not just this season, but steemming from last season and the year prior as well.
We shall see.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:59 pm
actually, 808ike is correct. OKL State did beat UGA, 1-0, in an earlier game in the Cathederal City Classic. I missed it. So, UGA is once beaten and edged OKL, 1-0, in the their second game.

What da hell? You following golf too?
Auwe!!!
February 24th, 2011 at 3:36 pm
Looks like the ONLY field change is Zamora at right OF.
Pagaduan and Robinson continue at 2nd and 1st respectively.
February 24th, 2011 at 3:39 pm
Zamora is the DP, J Rod in RF. Our 8th and 9th batters got to put the ball in play.
February 24th, 2011 at 3:39 pm
Aiyah!
2 more LOB. Would have been a MONUMENTAL advantage to get at least and RBI for Zamora or Pagaduan.
Monumental for the game and for the two individual players to get some confidence in against a top tier opponent.
Moving on...
February 24th, 2011 at 3:39 pm
i dont know what coolen is trying to prove by placing zamora and dara back to back in the order--2 weak hitters. jrod and sarah with scratch-hit singles but are left stranded after #8 and #9 KO.
February 24th, 2011 at 3:40 pm
Well,
J-Rod is back to DP and now Buchanan is in at right OF.

February 24th, 2011 at 5:11 pm
bummer, thanks redzone.
February 24th, 2011 at 5:17 pm
Tomorrow brings a new opponent with a new set of challenges.
Regardless of ranking and whatnot, the game of softball, like baseball, has MANY dynamics.
The Rainbow Wahine showed good focus in preparation for this game and did not appear to show signs of looking ahead. Granted, Oklahoma was the highest ranked team they will face this week, but still, a wonderful win!
February 24th, 2011 at 5:18 pm
Now I can drink
February 24th, 2011 at 5:18 pm
I thought Kuehu would have been out due to a shoulder issue as she's had that wrapped up for a while now.
February 24th, 2011 at 5:19 pm
Talk about hard luck for the Wahine BB team. Most important game of the season from the standpoint of making the WAC tournament, and their best all-around player is sidelined.
February 24th, 2011 at 5:20 pm
Kuehu is the glue.
February 24th, 2011 at 5:21 pm
Way to go Na Wahine!!!
February 24th, 2011 at 5:46 pm
Still snowing.
February 24th, 2011 at 6:07 pm

February 24th, 2011 at 7:12 pm
Excellent indeed. I have been looking for this information.
February 24th, 2011 at 7:22 pm
Congrats to both Wahine teams!!
Looks like both bb teams will be heading to Lost Wages. Much better result than last year.
February 24th, 2011 at 7:38 pm
Just came back from the Cathedral City tourney. Ricketts pitched a great game. She kept most of the OU batters off balanced throughout the game. The plate ump was pretty inconsistent, calling more than a few pitches off the outside part of the plate, strikes. Coach Coolen had some words with him a couple of times.
OU didn't impress me at all. The majority of their team are slap hitters. Ricketts sister, Keilani, was the real deal. In warmups she was throwing in the 70's. She had good movement and was very deceptive until the wahine started to figure her out in the last two innings.
February 24th, 2011 at 7:51 pm
losthawaiian -- thanks for the live insights!
February 24th, 2011 at 7:59 pm
losthawaiian please email me - pomai at nawahine . com
February 24th, 2011 at 8:02 pm
Losthawaiian,
Yes, thank you for you wahine softball game info.
February 24th, 2011 at 8:07 pm
You can see how confident the Wahine are. They don't panic or seem stressed when they strike out or make an error. OU on the other hand, had at least four team meetings on the mound. It seemed their coach was trying to calm them down. I wasn't there for their first game when they lost so I didn't know if that's their style or what.
The one big hit by Sharla(sp.?) was a rocket shot. You knew it was gone the moment she hit it. She has some mean upper body strength. You can tell just by the way she throws and swings.
Not to be too confident but, I can't see them losing this weekend unless they beat themselves.
February 24th, 2011 at 8:19 pm
One last note before I head off to bed. The Big League Dreams park is pretty cool. Each field is designed to look like a major league stadium. The Wahine played in Fenway, complete with the green monster in left( although, the fences were drawn in for all the softball games). There are five of these facilities around So. Cal and I had the chance to play in one more than a few years ago. They have a lot of rec. softball leagues playing there on the weekends.
The crowd tonight was at least a couple of hundred people with it evenly split between OU and Hawaii fans. There were more than a few coaches from other teams scouting the game. I heard a lot of good compliments for our Wahine.
February 24th, 2011 at 8:42 pm
Miah with back-to-back threes to end the half. UH 41-22. Time to rest the starters for the NMSU game.
February 24th, 2011 at 9:24 pm
I had difficulty seeing in Safari but it works fine in IE. Anway, the content is good. I am really pleased to have come across this.
February 24th, 2011 at 9:34 pm
No idea why Amis is still playing minutes in the second half instead of Josten with a double-digit lead. Now, it appears he's hurt. Just hope its not serious...
February 24th, 2011 at 9:39 pm
With the 3-point shot, a 20 point lead is not what it used to be. Inflation has hit basketball too.
February 24th, 2011 at 9:54 pm
Oh Mia oh Miah. What a great game for the Rainbow Warriors.
February 24th, 2011 at 10:01 pm
Yes, nice decisive win by the Warriors. Doesn't seem like Amis is seriously hurt, but when the team you're playing is shooting 26% from the perimeter, I don't really consider it a threat to a double-digit half time lead.
Anyway, have a good night folks! Way past my bedtime.
February 24th, 2011 at 10:05 pm
Great day for UH sports!
Men’s Swimming & Diving complete day two of CUSA Championship in 1st place.
Friesen, women’s swimming diving, earns fourth one-meter title on 2nd day of WAC Championship.
No. 10/11 softball wahine knocks off No. 6/6 Oklahoma, 4-1.
Wahine water polo upsets 3rd-ranked UCLA 8-6 in overtime.
Women’s basketball rallies past San Jose State, 55-53.
And…..
Warrior basketball finished the day by clinching a spot in the WAC Tournament by beating SJS 71-58.

February 24th, 2011 at 10:59 pm
In softball #6 Oklahoma loss twice, so did # 10 Texas. Oklahoma State won both of their games and Texas A & M split. Not a great day for the Big 12.
Oklahoma is now 166-148 against ranked teams, and 82-96 (.46067) against ranked teams outside of the Big 12.
February 24th, 2011 at 10:59 pm
What a great day for UH sports!...
February 24th, 2011 at 11:01 pm
Na Wahine wins out, they should move up in the polls with Oklahoma and Texas already with 2 losses this weekend.
Up next, Nebraska and Syracuse. And on Saturday, Virginia. Syracuse won the Big East last season and Virginia came in 2nd in the ACC.
February 24th, 2011 at 11:02 pm
seasider, kind of like a dream day for UH sports! Hope tomorrow turns out the same.
Good to Josten on the court today. He still needs to slow himself down and not try to do too much. He committed some obvious fouls due to being overly agressive. He has the talent but needs to play under control. If this was a close game, those trunovers would have hurt the team.
Hope he does better next game and we will definitely need him down the stretch.
February 24th, 2011 at 11:02 pm
Nite all! Take care!...
Go Warriors!
Go Wahine!
Go Bows!
Go HAWAII!
Go Salas... Pilares... Green! ...

huge baseball series this weekend against perennial national powerhouse texas.
texas is probably one of the top five over the past five decades.
February 25th, 2011 at 2:04 am
congrats to the gibber's army in clinching a wac tourney berth. its been awhile, huh?
we actually have a shot at a post season tournament.
winning the wac provides an automatic ncaa bid.
two more wins could insure an nit post season match up
or the college basketball invitational.
i believe that gibber may be piling up some extra cash by way of some incentive bonuses for milestones achieved.
February 25th, 2011 at 2:05 am
what does miah do now?
focus his attention to basketball???
or
re-focus his attention on football in a month???
February 25th, 2011 at 2:06 am

as faith would have it...
miah finally gets his shot at ncaa d1 basketball.
what with the turn of events as they are, he positioned himself to become a starter in just under two months of practice/games.
a star is born.
gotta credit his arrival as the nucleus to our revival.
and i believe that the ssc has been filling up because they want to watch this undersized local hero in action.

Great Morning All!
Nice day for UHAD! Way to go!
Looking forward to BaseBows matchup with the Longhorns. Watched a lot of their loss to TAMU-Corpus Christi....
They can push runs across in a lot of ways. Their pitching depth may be suspect but we'll see how good their frontline pitchers are in a short 3-game series.
Jus' No sked 'em, go get 'em!

Someone posted an article about Taylor Edwards(Nebraska) who has the NCAA record of 6 consecutive HR games and counting. Nebraska plays BYU at 8:30a.m.(HST) before UH. If she hits a HR in that game, it will be up to UH to stop the streak.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

(There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

March 3rd, 2011 at 4:18 pm
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I understand that there are a lot of spam lately. Apparently it’s pretty hard for people to grasp the concept that relationships can be mutually beneficial. I can leave a meaningful great comment and add content and essence to one of your posts and you will give me a link in exchange. There are too many takers out there and they aren’t willing to help people out. Take take take! .

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

March 8th, 2011 at 8:38 pm
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

I understand that there are a lot of spam lately. Apparently it’s pretty hard for people to grasp the concept that relationships can be mutually beneficial. I can leave a meaningful fantastic comment and add content and substance to one of your pages and you will give me a link in exchange. There are too many takers out there and they aren’t willing to help people out. Take take take! .

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I actually thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix if you werent too busy looking for attention.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
March 20th, 2011 at 8:11 pm
magnificent points altogether, you simply gained a new reader. What would you suggest about your post that you made a few days ago? Any positive?

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your thoughts? I mean, what you say is important and everything. But its got no punch, no pop! Maybe if you added a pic or two, a video? You could have such a more powerful blog if you let people SEE what youre talking about instead of just reading it.
