The Warriors are close to completing a deal in which they would conduct the second half of their training camp at Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam. The deal is awaiting approval on some aspects, such as insurance.
The Warriors would stay on the base (two to a room), use the practice and training facilities, and eat at the cafeteria.
The Warriors will be staying in the dormitories through Summer Session II. But they have to vacate after that because the school needs a week to clean and prepare the dorms for the start of the fall semester.

Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson yesterday made a one-day trip from Maui to Honolulu to check on his academic status for the fall semester. Robinson, a Baldwin High graduate, is transferring from Washington State. He is awaiting official word, but he appears to have met the requirements to enroll at UH-Manoa. Once he receives an acceptance letter, he will petition the NCAA for an exemption that would allow him to play for the Warriors in 2012. He said his case would be based on a "family situation" that required him to move back to Hawaii. Pu‘u-Robinson is a defensive end/outside linebacker.

Stacey Price has been hired as successor to Daniel Arakaki, who served as director of student affairs. Among her duties will be to oversee the scholarships. Arakaki is now director of the Duke Kahanamoku pool.

I used to be 5'9" but don't know now.
They put 2 beds together if you want to sleep together or 2 seperate single beds divided by a night stand. You have to let them know before. If not, don't worry, they can change it in an instant.

In 1973 UH Football team traveled to Japan.
Everyone's feet hung at least 1.0 to 1.5 feet over the end of the bed (except for Yasuo Yorita's). I think Paul Lee set the record for extension past the end of the bed.

Don: we spent 3 nights in Tokyo in 2008.
Requested a king size bed. Their version of a king is more like a queen or almost a double. We had to sleep 69.

I wonder how the new minor league football would take shape? I think it would be cheaper here than in Europe because the travel is less expensive from the outer islands than going from country to country. I have no idea about lodgings though. Could the players afford rent if they have a family? How about the ticket prices? With the NFL backing, like they did in Europe, could it be a possibility? Very interesting. At what time of the year would they play? Finish before the NFL season so the players have a chance to catch on an NFL roster or overlap? Being in Hawaii, I'm sure there will be more local players or players with local ties rostered in the new league.

gigi, no worry. In the military, they pay the officers. On a cruise, you pay them. For somebody 6'1" should be ok. Maybe it depends on the ship company. I've cruised on NCL and Holland America and the bed was not an issue. You could even sleep outside on a lounge chair if desired.

Pro baseball still going strong with winter league. This is not a individual team where we have to travel to the mainland and opponents travel here. Its a league where Oahu will have 2 teams, Big Island 2, Maui and Kauai 1 each. With the NFL backing, it might stand a chance. My concern is if they are relying on attendance, then it would be hard to fill up any stadium. But with Hawaii's die hard football fans, it may be doable if the reciepts are used for other things besides salaries or just not for everything. The NFL would benefit by having a minor league, ala basebal,l and Hawaii the state and its players may benefit also, with the number of NFL people here.

Minor league sports could be very profitable if the mainstream paying public were actually interested in the sport itself.
The paying public is only interested in superstars. Think about that for a sec. NFL, NBA, MLB created a monster that cannot be stopped nor can it's attitude be changed. The big media is already set up so that the superstars remain superstars whether or not they are getting arrested, breaking athletic records, or doing charity work for a photo op.
I think the mainstream public (aka "paying public") are too jaded or lazy to try to find interest in anything not marketable in Gatorade chewable candy commercials, tabloid outlets, or featured on Dancing With The Stars.

No more pro winter league baseball in Hawaii. The NFL's minor leagues are college, CFL, and the varied arena leagues. I don't see why they would want to spend their billions on an endorsed minor league.

gigi, no balcony, but unless you get the penthouse, the beds are the same. My brother and another couple had a deluxe veranda so saw the rooms. My wife is still working so she likes the inside cabin because it is totally a blackout room and she could sleep as long as she desired. On our last 2 cruises, we chose the inside cabins. Its OK with me since it saves me money. Just stay away from the lower deck floors at the very front of the ship because the anchors are lowered on some mornings and it makes loud noises early in the morning. If it is your 1st cruise, I recommend at least a window cabin so you can view outside. If you are going with the inside cabin, I recommend you upgrade to an upper floor. Probably cost about $50 more per person. Send me your email address so we can talk more if you desire so not on the WB.

I wonder if they include PPV for the games in the Hawaii Football League at a small cost (not like UH's PPV), or just be on local TV for the game of the week. It may draw interest, especially if some of the players with local ties are on the rosters. They may even have it nation wide too. What if the old Hawaii Warriors or were on TV? With the amount of TV stations now in Hawaii as compared to the 1970s it may have a chance. This would be an all Hawaii league with future NFL stars and may catch on. They could charter a sponsored plane to the outer islands for a trip before and after the games. Only a short flight.

Pro football games on Oahu could be played at Ching field or even local high schools, with a number of them having turfs now (Mililani, Leilehua, Roosevelt, Kamehameha and others). The NFL could "rent" those fields, giving such schools added income. Aloha Stadium for the championship game or even 1 of the semifinals with the other on a neighbor island. Sure, Aloha Stadium wouldn't be sold out, but with the local TV games' publicity, 20+ thousand is realistic.

I've been the chair/president of a few organizations. I've encouraged suggestions to make people feel involved, even though there weren't a lot not-very-good suggestions. I think the NFL is being polite to HTA. There's not going to be a developmental league here. There won't be an exhibition game. NFL has a developmental league. It's called the NCAA.

Just read the report of the lawsuit from HNN. And based on the pictures, this guy was severely beaten. Also, read the lawsuit that was filed in Hawaii and it doesn't paint a pretty picture of Boyd Gaming's policy on security. This guy may have hit the jackpot, so to speak.
Anyway, what I've noticed is that the old Fremont area has always been high risk for crime. You could be walking then all of a sudden find yourself in a bad part of town surrounded by drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes and the homeless (Oh my!). However, you could be walking through the parking lot of the Bellagio and get mugged just as easily. Of course, the criminals might be considered more upscale and drive nicer cars.
When in Vegas walk in groups and always be aware of your surroundings.

Speaking of sports in the military, I remember convincing my CO to let me and a friend take part in a military-only surf competition near Camp Pendleton. Room and transportation wasn't paid for, however it did allow us to get our of work for a couple of days. Funny thing was when we got there, we didn't even swim out for our heat. Instead, we drove further south to visit his friends..lol! Yep, your tax dollars hard at work.

ST: I'm surprised your cell phone can take video. I guess I am a dinosaur, as my phone does not have the video or the photo feature. All it does is make and receive phone calls. And I keep it turned off most of the time, making emergency calls only.

Mainstreet area is pretty seedy. County jail is two blocks away. You would think
you would be safe in the property with all the video monitoring.

Reading the S-A story on the Main Street incident, I recall that rasu begasu, LizKauai, wafan, izzy, Committed Road Warrior, and I were in that restroom corridor. There was some art work on the men's restroom wall and Liz and some other ladies wanted to see it. This was the Sunday after the UH-UNLV game last September when rasu issued a last cattle call at the Main Street buffet.
Rasu parked in the parking structure there. It was dark. I had a bad feeling in the structure and walking to the casino. rasu wondered why I turned blind corners very wide...old Coastie habits I told him. I think he posted a comment about how I walked.

chopsueyboy: we get our Korean food from Soon's Kalbi in Salt Lake. They make the best meat juhn, I swear.

i've spent hundreds of hours at the main street station casino and have never felt insecure there. there's always security in uniform and incognito. that's the first robbery i've heard about.

That Vegas incident could have ramifications for Waikiki. I keep reading stories about tourists being knifed, beaten, and robbed in Waikiki. Are we supposed to flood the streets with cops? That would be unfeasible.

I was robbed at gunpoint in a Fifth Avenue elevator in New York back in the 1970s. The robber followed my boss (an attorney) from the bank where he cashed his paycheck to the elevator. He had seen my boss put the money in his shirt pocket.
When he pointed the gun at him, my boss offered his wallet, but the robber insisted on the cash in the pocket. My boss threw the money on the floor. The robber picked up the cash and got my wallet and the wallets of the other women in the elevator.
He fled and was never caught.

Good to move the seniors out a bit early. Most of them have already stopped working since a month or two or five ago. And, since they have all the answers I tell them it is best they go to work and tell their bosses how to make things much more efficient and how to be better bosses.

I have an elderlybout 74y.o. neighbor who was rubbed, lockstock&barrel, completely bushwacked/cleaned out when he took a weekend trip to see his son when he lived near Baylor University; well, at least he didn't have a whole lot to move when he relocated to Marshall, Texas.
I guess, theives look out for elderly people who don't think as fast or move as fast as younger people..though, not entirely.

don't know if u came across an article recently, on-line about how much of the chicken sold in grocery stores and resturants are fed a special engineered/ modified feed to make them grow faster and heavier because of the need and demand issues, much like certain live stock.Whatever they are fed is passed on to whoever eats their flesh, etc. Now, that's spooky, zombie-ish!!

Howzit, everyone!
Happy Aloha Friday to you all!
Looking forward to Bruddah Mo's and LilRich's game tomorrow night at the Arena. Lots of things to do this weekend, but I should be able to make the game, with a kid or two, at least.
Every single time we've ever gone to Vegas, we'd usually stay at the Cal. This was for annual business conventions, shows, and school reunions. Have never once ran into any trouble, even while wandering the far end of Fremont. Robberies happen everywhere, daily. I'd venture a guess that more robberies are probably committed at convenience stores and gas stations than at casinos. I highly doubt it happens more often in or near casinos, (although many others may disagree in that the casinos are the ones robbing us in the first place). I'm not much of a gambler, so a few coins here and there, or a Keno game once in a while, and I'm done. My main focus at Vegas (aside from business) is always the buffet spread, along with whatever local food I can find.

My niece, an investment banker type, usually changes at work, to worn out jeans, sneakers, when she goes to or from her work place. Unfortunately she also wears the same to theaters, restaurants etc.

sounds like me recently...this morning went to this little convenience store and bought a cpl lottery tickets, after purchasing dem I noticed this pizza turnstile and notice some ono looking pizza which I went ahead and purchased.... i had left my lottery tkts on the counter because evidently my mind was on the pizza. As a habit, I always place my tkts in my wallet and when I noticed my tkts weren't there, I looked a the counter where I had ordered my pizza and thank goodness, nobody went aihui dem....sorry4 ur grandma..but funny kine just da same.
