When he played football and baseball at UH, Jason Ross was known for his cool and calm demeanor. But as the father of an Olympic hopeful, he is unabashedly excited about the path leading to his daughter Kyla's participation in the London Games.
"It's very exciting times right now," said Ross, whose daughter was named to the five-member U.S. gymnastics team. "Nerve-racking, but exciting."
He added: "When it's your child, and you see all of the hard work she puts in, and hopefully she can achieve all of her dreams, it's exciting."
Ross works for one of the top recruiting firms in Orange County. It is fitting, considering he was a highly sought recruit as a multi-sport high school athlete. Ross chose UH, which he described as "one of the best decisions."
He said he has "fond memories. I enjoyed the experience. I've always loved Hawaii and UH."
Ross' wife Kiana was raised in Hawaii. His sister-in-law is former UH volleyball player Nohea Tano LaBoy, who is married to Travis LaBoy.
