Fresh take

August 29th, 2012
By

The Warriors began the process of crafting the 64-player travel roster yesterday. Many of the road Warriors wore the dark-green game helmets during the 2-hour practice.

Among them were seven true freshmen — running back Steven Lakalaka, tight end Harold Moleni, offensive lineman Leo Koloamatangi, linebackers Jerrol Garcia-Williams and Benny Fonua, cornerback Ne'Quan Phillips and safety Marrell Jackson.

Also, grayshirt freshman Ben Clarke and Ikaika Woolsey will be on the travel squad.

* * * * * *

The Warriors are expected to bring two kickers — starter Tyler Hadden and backup Kyle Niiro.

Defensive end Beau Yap will be the backup long-snapper to Luke Ingram.

* * * * * *

Happy birthday to Pomai, Pride and Rainbow Cliff.

    A-House
Schedule for 2014 only shows 3 non conference games.
2 at home 8/30 Washington, 9/06 Oregon State and 9/20 Colorado - away. So if UH able to add Michigan to the sked, when?

    http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=football&schedule=3926

  17. Stephen Tsai:

UH might add Michigan, but it will have Eastern or Western in front of that name.

  18. Shoko:

    Really? Awww, booo...

  19. ryan_12177:

I know Coach Chow doesn't like to redshirt people, but I don't see much of a benefit of not redshirting Lakalaka when all the rest of our RBs are underclassmen (besides Jackson)...

  20. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Seven true Freshmen? Is that an unusually high number, Stephen?

  21. 702WarriorFan:

    ST
Wasn't there a UH recruit that went to Eastern or Western Michigan?

  22. cincodemayonnaisse:

Chow has numerous personnel groupings. Never know what capacity he will use Lakalaka, in Chow's system if you are good enough to play and help the team win....you will.

Happy birthday again to all the Birthday Peeps!

Never could figure out why they called Eastern Michigan "Eastern". I mean, it's only like 10 minutes away from Ann Arbor. Whereas Western is all the way out in Kalamazoo.

Would be good if they did visit the Big House, though. We'd have to make a trip back there!

  32. A-House:

Happy Birfday to 3 prominent, not size but heart, Tsaikos this fine day in August!

  34. A-House:

About 2 years ago, I remember discussing the Michigan game with my wife asking if we should go as we have never, ever been to Michigan - with age creeping upon us, we have decided to attend as many away games as possible IF it is where we have never gone before and if the mind/body is willing.

too bad it will not be University fo Michigan - but, Eastern or Western, why not travel and see the trees in all its "fall" glory!

  35. Rodney:

    USC 20 HAWAII 24!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Birthday greetings to Pomai, Pride, and Rainbow Cliff...say, haven't heard from Rainbow Cliff in a long time, for that matter Pride as well. Hope all is good with them.

  42. Musashi:

    ST...

Did Coach Chow mention who will be doing the punting. Did not see anything in this area. Sorry, have been in the cave the last couple of weeks...

  43. Inyoface:

I think Hawaii can score at least 3 touchdowns with a possible field goal. I don't think that's asking too much.

  44. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    41 LK -

Having watched practices a couple of times, including the scrimage, I can see how all seven could contribute this year. Not to mention they could provide the core group as upperclassmen who have come up through Coach Chow's system.

  45. Da Punchbowl Kid:

"core group of team leaders" I should have said above.

  46. (Jesse) James:

Happy Birthday to Pomai, Pride, and Rainbow Cliff!!! Hope you all have a good one today!!!

  47. (Jesse) James:

Good morning Tsaikos!!! Woo hoo, top fitty!!!

  48. (Jesse) James:

Nice to see Coach Chow building the foundation for the future with the underclassmen...

  49. Wes'side Warrior:

A-House... I'm just wondering when the game might be scheduled. When. It usually starts getting cold in October, and it rains a bit more too. There were several years when our first snow happened on or around Halloween, but most years, it's just cold and raining on Halloween. In lucky years, our first snow would hold off until around Thanksgiving. It's definitely freezing by then too. But would be cool to visit Michigan again, if just for a couple of days or so. Still a few hanabata dayz friends living up there. We should be back home by then, though.

  50. jm2375:

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Happy Birthday to Pride., Pomai, and RainbowCliff!

Annoddah Dave - Pride.'s been around, you just have to look for him.

ST - when do you depart for the land of the fruits, nuts & flakes?

  51. Wes'side Warrior:

If they are up to Coach's standards, I'm glad he's gonna play them, and not save them just for the sake of waiting a year. First college game, against the number one team, at their house. What better way to build these boyz up? Let 'em loose!!!

    Always Ready!

    Shock Da World, Baby!!!

  52. chopsueyboy:

    No need punter.
USC will get the ball back only on kickoffs by UH.

  53. mctruck:

Happy Birthday to the, 3Amigos=Pomai, Pride, Rainbow Cliff.
speaking of, Raindow Cliff.....is he still out there???...don't believe I've seen any post; maybe during bb season?

  54. mctruck:

    Oooops!?, raindow=Rainbow.

  55. gigi-hawaii:

Kind of scary to say "no need punter."
But what choice do we have?

  56. JaM:

    hAPPY bIRTHDAY..pOMAI, pRIDE AND rAINBOWCLIFF!

  57. kawika49:

#59 Scott Harding has been kicking the ball longer than most of the team have played football, on the run at that and without pads.

  58. jeezy33:

I think punting is the least of our worries at this point. Yes we will be punting a lot but I think it's more important to move the ball for 1. Keeping the USC offense off the field is my main concern. Trying to get a few first downs. Then maybe getting a few scores. Whether USC has to travel 80 yards to score or 50 isn't a huge deal to me. This game isn't like the NFL where field position will be huge and the level of talent is fairly close between opponents. USC is going to put up their points whether it is long sustainable drives or homerun 60 yard plays. That is a given.

Any fan thinking Hawaii has a chance to win this game is just blind. New coach, same personnel. I want to see progress but winning games still comes down to talent, speed, size, execution.

Score really doesn't mean anything to me in this game. I just want to see progress and watch this team grow in the right direction. Things like making adjustments, staying discipline, understanding assignments, O line working as a unit, and so on.

I want to see how far this team can grow from opening day up until Nevada game. That game will be the true measuring stick as far as how thew new coaches have prepared our players from Mack era up until now.

  59. A-House:

    Wes'side Warrior:

date set for your relocation back home?

will be good to see you again and I'm sure joining us at tailgates and cattle calls!

  60. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Maybe we will see Harding do the punts for us. I can't remember what team we played used the rugby style kicks last season but it was pretty effective.

  61. kawika49:

#64 Harding is a mature player(older than the rest of the team). Not in American Football; but in a more physical form without protection, and a more instinctive form of running, and catching without a fixed play. More like a Jazz version of football.

  62. kawika49:

I can see Harding going in motion on 4th down; taking the pitch and kicking the sum gun.

  63. Wes'side Warrior:

More than likely after this school year... so more towards the end of May, early June, maybe... unless we can hit the lottery before that! Hahaha!

Definitely will be good to see everyone on a more consistent basis! And I'll get to interact with folks on issues I believe need to be worked on. So, yeah... can't wait.

  64. Wes'side Warrior:

Good to see Jam again too!

People waking up from hibernation... almost time to set it off!!!

  65. ryan_12177:

I seriously don't get why Niro wouldn't be the punter.. the guy punted in high school and he's our 3rd kicker on the roster...

  66. Buffoman:

    62 Jeezy33

I agree with you particularly in paragraph #3. But unlike you my blindness is called hope. I was at Aloha Stadium when an overmatch UH team played Nebraska. Their line men were huge and they I believe had Dave Remington, the Outland Trophy winner anchoring their o-line. Watching the o-line push Mr. Noga (I believe it was he) around was hard to watch but what I saw in the man made me believe that we had a chance. Outweighed and out sized, Niko just never gave up, and neither did his mates and at the half, we were close. We eventually lost that game, but hope almost became reality and that to me is much better than blindly agreeing with what may be obvious.

I think some of the bloggers may be more than hopeful, but to a person, we're staring down obvious in the eye, grasping for straws, and just about every other cliche to state what may be to some, an untenable situation, and that is what fans do.

  67. kawika49:

Niro may end up later as the kicker, if they can contain the outside rush during punts. If not it sill be Harding.

  68. Wes'side Warrior:

    Jeezy, this is for you:

“Do we have what it takes to win?” UH Head Football Coach Norm Chow was asked pointedly at the Na Koa lunch meeting at the Willows Restaurant on Monday, August 27.

Without hesitation he replied, “Our players have done everything we have asked of them, but is that enough to win? “I think so, but we’ll see.”

    http://www.nakoa.org/2012/08/82712-lunch-report/

Just because we're playing the #1 ranked team... a team that is supposed to be far superior to us just because of money and the amount of stars next to each player's name... a team which lacks depth and experience in key areas...

We've shown everyone that we got players on our team too, despite lack of "Expert" adulation and ratings.

Sorry, I don't agree. Again, I was in the stands when Appy State came in and kicked some Big Blue 'okole. When it comes game day, it's mano y mano... players and coaches.

    We'll see...

    Kick some 'okole, Boyz!

  69. jeezy33:

    70. I understand what you mean, but there is a big difference between hope, and some fans being naive thinking because we have Norm Chow now, therefore we are pulling this upset off. Its equivilant to seeing Browns fans saying this is our year every season.

Are WRs are still the same regardless what system we run. Our O line personnel is improved, but isn't going to be NFL caliber or anything. Very young line.

Defensively, none of our guys were big time pass rushers last season so I don't see how new coaching will all of a sudden give us guys like Laboy and Veikune. Our LBs were all non starters a year before besides Laurel.

I just want some fans to look at this team in perspective. Its a rebuilding process that is going to take time. With the player we have, we won 6 games last year against medium to bottom feeder competition. We are now playing a top 5 team in the country.

Yes I am hoping for a miracle. But in the end, I just want to see us improve on what we ended the season with last year. No more stupid mistakes, blocked PATs, kick out of bounds, 0 half time adjustments, better tackling, more intensity etc.

  70. Wes'side Warrior:

I look at it this way...

They kinda know what they got.

They have no real idea what we've got.

They come at us, we hit 'em in the mouth.

They come at us again, we hit 'em in the mouth again, harder.

We minimize mistakes and cause a few on their end.

They start doubting, we hit 'em again.

At the end of four quarters, we'll see what happened.

Will I be in a good mood, or a foul mood, going out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary? We'll see...

  71. Rodney:

I'm a fan!! I believe we can win!
Chow is 2 and 2 against Monte.
USC 20 The University of Hawaii 24!!!

  72. jeezy33:

#70. You know exactly what we have though. You saw our guys play all of last season.
Billy Ray, Miah, and Stutz don't form into game changing WRs just because new system.

Paipai doesn't become Travis Laboy because we hired new DC.

For the most part, we know our personnel.

I can honestly say I would be very pleased if the score ended up being 42-17.

  73. jeezy33:

#66. Now #71 is the type of fan I am referring to that would be a perfect fit for Cleveland Browns. Respect the enthusiasm but at some point, need to come back down to earth and taste reality.

  74. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Yep, play hard and progress in the right direction through this rebuilding year. The schedule only gets easier as the season goes on (cept for BSU) and that works in our favor. The parity amongst teams in the MWC are much closer and I believe we can do well in the conference.
It takes 6 to get the the Hawaii Bowl. I'm confident we get there.

  75. Wes'side Warrior:

Okay, that was an overly simplistic view of what I hope to see this Saturday.

Still, I saw Appy State come in and totally take #5 Michigan out, in the Big House. I'll always believe "it" can happen.

We might be young on the O-line, but USC has no one on their D-line. Who will win that battle? I think you give our boyz a little confidence, and watch out.

They talk about their receivers. I can't wait to see what our DB's can do.

Watch out for that Sluggo Seam!

We might have many of the same players from the past staff/system. But, we've also got all new coaches teaching them now. I believe there's a difference. We'll see...

  76. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    jeezy,

didn't players form well all of a sudden in a new system in 1999?

  77. jeezy33:

    76. Yes they did. You are talking about the team that opened up the season losing 62-7 to USC right?

As I said, I want to see progress... It's not an overnight success. I am not saying we suck. I am simply I wanna see the football team fix the mental holes the occured all through last season. And by NEVADA home game, we are ready to take it to them and take them down.

  78. Wes'side Warrior:

    Paipai is a Defensive Lineman.

    Wasn't Travis an LB?

Art Laurel is an LB, and he came on towards the end of last season.

You truly believe that new coaches can't make a difference, even with the same players? And I can't say that these same players will play the same as they did last season. If that's the case, why did we go through with a coaching change, yada, yada, yada? Might as well just pay some local high school coaches to call plays. Same same? I don't think so.

  79. jeezy33:

    75. What did our DBs do against the WAC last year? We are talking about 2 1st round picks. I love Mike Edwards but I still seen him get owned by certain WRs.
And their D line may be unproven, but those guys are all 4 star D linemen.

If we had 4 4 star D linemen starting for us who havent played, you realize how excited our state would be? We got Tuipulotu who transferred and everyone went nuts. These guys are all at his level at least.

  80. jeezy33:

    78. Both were pass rushers. Techincally, Demarcus Ware is a OLB, but he rushes the QB. Cam Wake was a 3-4 OLB. 4-3 DE. It all depends on system you are running at the time.

  81. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    #77,

Yeah the team that had the best turnaround in NCAA history. Yea, that team.

  82. Wes'side Warrior:

Wait a minute... sorry. Yeah, I think Travis was on the line back then...

  83. jeezy33:

    81. Whats your point? They still loss to USC by a lot???

IF you can find a quote where i said this team won't be good, find it. I think this team will turn it around and finish 7-5.

  84. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Jeezy -

Sorry, but can't see your point here. So in that regard, yes, I'm blind. Coached a H.S. team for many years, in an individual, man on man sport. Saw some upsets of epic proportions on a few occasions. Coached a couple of individuals who pulled off the upset against previously unbeaten foes. Those upsets wouldn't have happened if I had told my players that they have no chance, and that they should strive to not look bad in defeat.

I know you're a true fan and enjoy some of your posts, but in this case, I have to disagree. Coach Chow empahsizes putting fear aside, forgetting the name of who you're up against and playing as hard as you can, every second of the game. Never visualize failure if you hope to win. It all starts with believing.

"Mind conceives, heart believes, body achieves."- Rev. Jesse Jackson

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  85. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

"You saw our guys play all of last season.
Billy Ray, Miah, and Stutz don't form into game changing WRs just because new system."

That is what you said, and my references are in direct relation to that quote. Its quite simple to follow the logic.

  86. Wes'side Warrior:

Well, good discussion, but I believe we've turned the corner to greater productivity, overall. We'll see how the team responds throughout this game. Extremely hostile environment. Coaches gotta keep everyone's heads in the game.

  87. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

My definition of "game changing" players in may be a little different from most. I'd say going from 0-12 to 9-4 under a new system and new coach meant that at least some of those players became game changers under a new system. Off course, I am not as football savvy as the bloggers on here so I will defer.

  88. Inyoface:

I'm sure Laboy, Tanuvasa, Sopoaga, etc., were not 4 star's coming out of HS, as well as most the Hawaii players that went on to have a lengthy career in the NFL.

  89. jeezy33:

    84. I understand where you are coming from. As a coach or a player, there should never be fear in an opponent. This is just the reality of the way I see from a neutral point of view.

If Kahuku were playing Roosevelt tomorrow, I'd probably laugh if some Roosevelt alum told me they had a chance. Just how I view it. If someone from North Texas called me, telling me they are gonna pull off LSU upset this weekend, I would probably laugh and hang up the phone. Now do I expect the North Texas coaches and players to believe? Of course, thats why you play sports and compete.

Now in this situation, I am a huge Hawaii fan. I want to see us upset USC more than anything. But reality checks in and I'd say it most likely isn't going to happen. There is nothing wrong with me feeling that way and wanting to just see our team battle hard, make adjustments, and hang in there.

  90. madeinhawaii:

I think our players last season were just as good as Utah was last season who nearly tied the game against USC with a field goal in the last ten seconds. Unfortunately, I think we had a major disconnect last season between players and coaches as well as between the coaching staff, too. I also believe that our players hit harder than most other teams and will want it more on Saturday.

For the first time in years, our Oline is healthy for the start of the season. They may be young, but this may be the best Oline we have had in three to four years. Looking at USC's lineup, they have a lot of underclassmen on their O-line as well.

We have excellent receivers. They know how to run routes and more importantly how to go up, catch and keep the ball. Our RBs made decent yards last year despite our Oline issues.

Don't sell our Warriors short. They may not have the depth of talent that some BCS schools have, but the Warriors have a lot of heart and desire. Two years ago we lost because our players ran out of gas... again, depth. BUT USC has been hit with sanctions and they have some depth issues, too.

Barkley may be their holy grail.. but we all know that a QB favorite cannot win all the games by himself.

Chow's play calling could very well level the field. He may have taught Lane Kiffen everything that Lane knows ... but I don't think he taught him everything that Chow, himself, knows.

Every season we worry about losing the "great ones" but then every new season we see players break out and establish themselves, too. Some only need a chance.

And I believe our warriors got lots of CHANCE!

  91. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

USC by media accounts is lacking depth. Albeit I think they are in relation to other BCS schools but nonetheless they aren't as deep due to those scholarship cuts.

  92. jeezy33:

    85. That 1999 team still had NFL caliber players. Manuwai, Klemm, Noa, Ulbrich, Pisa, Fenderson.

I think Stutz, Harding, and Miah can improve. But not enough to make a difference in the USC contest. I still want to see Chris Gant.

  93. d1shima:

    "Come back down to Earth?"

This is still pre-season. Both teams are "new" teams...never played a down yet. Everything is only conjecture at this point...

  94. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Heart wins games as much a minds do. Go with your heart, Jeezy, this week, the Warriors need all the mana we fans can give them.

  95. jeezy33:

94... umm ok... I'm really curious to see what Barkley, Woods, Lee, Mcneil are all about. Whatever they did last year, no biggie.

  96. Inyoface:

Pisa wasn't on the '99 team.

  97. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Kawika -

"More like a Jazz version of football." NICE! Best description of Aussie Rules Football ever!

  98. jimmy the lock:

I woke up this morning and to my astonishment, I can see! I always could see. Nothing wrong with being optimistic about wanting the Warriors to win.

BTW, my uncle is blind, but he wants the Warriors to win.

  99. jeezy33:

95.... What ever happened to Talent, Size, Speed, Execution, and Adjustments to winning games?

Meaning I am pretty sure everyone who steps on the field whether you play for Hawaii, USC, BYU, Boise, etc all have heart. If heart was the biggest issue, I am sure we would have won many more games last year. Never once questioned that teams heart.

  100. Inyoface:

If you're curious about them go join them and leave us alone jeezy

  101. mctruck:

    ST,

wuz wondering if part of OL/DL gear will include wearing knee-braces to lessen injuries?
Thought it was brought up before???, just not sure when.

  102. jeezy33:

Might have redshirted but he was on the team.

  103. Kevin:

Without conjecture and hindsight, sports blogs would not exist.

Actually, sports commentary on television would not exist either...

  104. maui warrior:

jeezy at least you're comfortable stating your opinion, the world is a sensative place now days......keep it coming, I understand what you're saying, but I still have some sliver of hope that miracles due happen.......GO WARRIORS!!

  105. jeezy33:

    101. Us? lol

  106. jeezy33:

    105. Thank you. People are way too sensitive and take everything way out of context.

I predicted a 7-5 season and said this team will improve over the season.

Yet, some fans get mad because I don't think its realistic to beat USC in LA? OK....

  108. A-joe:

Does anyone have the formula that measures a player's heart?

  109. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Never said you questioned anyone's heart Jeezy. I was simply suggesting that you lend your heart to the team this week. Your words have power.

    Nuff said.

  110. tommui:

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

And Happy Birthday to PRIDE, POMAI and RAINBOW CLIFF.

Hadn't seen postings from PRIDE and RAINBOW CLIFF lately -don't be a stranger - hope all is well with you.

  111. lava:

Does anyone have the formula that measures a fan's heart? Is a fan less of a fan for thinking USC will dominate on Saturday? Do people have less Christmas spirit merely because they don't believe in Santa? Just asking.

  112. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Hey maui warrior! Long time no see. How's da family, erryting?

  113. d1shima:

What they did last year was...(wait for it) last year!

Da Rubbahs played under sanctions last year. Prolly could make the case that they played with the proverbial "chip on their shoulder" but...

Much different expectations this pre-season. I'm sure someone (prolly the Tsaiko's kid since he went O-College) can read the press clippings to the rest of 'em! Until they need to perform, it is not known how they will respond. Typical of all Rubbahs! ;-)

Send 'em home on their shields!

  114. Inyoface:

I didn't buy a ticket to watch UH lose. I could careless about your opinion, I hear it enough from people up here that UH will get blown out.

  115. jeezy33:

115.... well dont cry about it. Its a blog. Your choice to read what you want here.

  116. Da Punchbowl Kid:

We all have a right to our opinions. But, just imagine if every fan here said we don't have a chance on Saturday. How would that make the coaches and players feel? Just sayin'...

  117. Da Punchbowl Kid:

"Send 'em home on their shields". I LIKE that!

  118. Inyoface:

Well If you guarantee a lost, that's the life you lead.

  119. jeezy33:

I didn't guarantee anything. But sure thing!!!

  120. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Okay- da brain is warmed up. Thanks for the discussions, errybody.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  121. Shoko:

Well, just keep in mind that injuries can stunt growth or improvement over the course of the season. I just hope the injuries will be minimal this year.

Would have been nice to have Lamar as the first game to build confidence tho.

  122. Rainbows:

Looks like Coach Chow removed the tapa strip on the green UH helmets - at least for practice. Is this a permanent uniform change?

  123. d1shima:

Would have been nice to have Lamar as the first game to build confidence tho.

And how do you think they would respond to THAT in Beaumont, TX?

  124. Derek:

Jeezy is a very sensible person. Thinks with his head instead of his heart. Look, we all want UH to win and a minor miracle now and ten. But, this is not one of them. We are 40 to 40 1/2 underdogs, on the road, against the AP #1 ranked team, with the #1 Heisman trophy candidate, and many 4 and 5 star recruited players with many of them being drafted in the NFL, not to mention at least 4 sure fire first round draft picks at some point in time in Barkley, McDonald, Woods, and Lee. UH cannot compete based on talent, speed, size, athleticism, and money.

UH's chances of even being in the game is slim and none, and slim left a long time ago. But, I agree with Jeezy in wanting to see if UH will show some signs of playing some good football and show promise and positive things to look forward to in the games that follow. The fact that 7 true freshmen can play shows that these young players are ready and are good players and will be major contributers in the future. That also bodes well for the coaching staff in recruiting and evaluating talent. We would all be happy whenever UH wins. This week is not the week. If I am wrong, I will be very happy, ecstatic. If I am right, I will be sad, but looking for the silver lining that there are some good things that happened in the game. Chow will put up some surprises and some trick plays. He will try to run the ball to control the clock and if he succeeds in getting 2,3, or even 4 consecutive first downs on the ground he will continue to pound it until USC stops it. He knows USC's weakness is the defensive line and Chow is a very smart man. That's why he's a Dr.

  125. A-House:

Heart, oh "you gotta have heart".

Yes, how does one measure heart? never giving up? always performing 100%? encouraging teammates to do their absolute best? oh, it's a tough call.

yet, year after year, I do question the "heart" of certain players who refuses to run or give up their route when ball is going to another player or fails to sustain a block or continues to cause penalties or the RB or QB who will not carry out the "feint" to make a play more successful? are these, perhaps characteristics of a player who maybe lazy/unwilling to give 100% or without "heart"?

yes, it is difficult to have "heart" - just ask the infantry men who have to face this daily not knowing if they will wake up the next day or their families who worry every minute of every day until their soldier comes home.

I have "heart"; "miles and miles of heart".

  126. Hodad:

Just because a freshman travels doesn't mean he will play. And if he doesn't play, he is still eligible for a redshirt year. However, I would think all of these guys are on special teams and will play. The dfepth chart always shows who plays Offense and defense. I wish there was a special teams depth chart also. Mr. Tsai???

  127. A-House:

there is a certain person in our household who is a very sore loser - in fact we all are!

if UH loses, the next day is hell on fire - no reading the sport page! monku! monku! no watching "coaches corner" on tv.

now, is that "heart"? or a bunch of sore losers!!!

  128. markazulu:

If you wanna strive to be the best you gotta beat the best! Of course nobody thinks Hawaii can play with the big boys because they will always remember our blow out wins but what about the times when HAWAII beat the odds and won the games they shouldn't have won.

    1923 Hawaii beat Oregon State
1955 Hawaii goes up to Lincoln and beats NEBRASKA
1973 Hawaii beat Washington at Washington despite being 50 point Underdogs
    1986 Hawaii Beat Wisconsin
1988 Hawaii beat Iowa who was ranked 9th in the nation
Beating BYU for the first time in 1989, Beating #4 BYU in 1990 after Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy, Beating BYU in 1992, Beating #8 BYU in 2001
    1992 Hawaii Beat Illinois
Beating Alabama in 2002 or 2003
    Beating Michigan State in 2004
    Beating Nevada in 2010

  129. Kaimuki Kid:

Taking away fear and visualizing execution of plays, seeking perfection is the mantra coach Merv Lopes had the Chaminade bball do before their monumental upset of #1 Virginia. Anything can happen, the ball is not round in football.

  130. Kaimuki Kid:

    Go Warriors!!!

  131. HawaiiMongoose:

I predicted Stanford's VB team would beat the Wahine. I was wrong.

I've predicted USC's FB team will beat the Warriors...

Happy Burfday to da Burfday boiz......

Any given day........ predict all you want.....any given day......someone will win and someone will lose. It doesn't help that USC is coming off of a sanction year, is ranked #1, and their coach 'loves' our coach, and the stadium is a sell out BUT, AND THIS COULD BE A BUTT, Any given day..... still gotta shut up, strap up, line up and man up.... any given day.

Gotta support the 808, the greatest state in the 50 states and I don't think our team is going over there to lose...... they're going there to give it everything they got.

They don't give in or give up, the're going to give it ALL they got.....and God willing, they'll come home with the victory, but please my Tsaiko ohana, the outcome of the game does not determine if they are winners, because they already are when they wear the green and black and represent the 808.

    WINNERS - ABSOLUTELY

    VICTORIOUS - TO BE DETERMINED

    WARRIORS - FOREVER

  137. WarriorMojo:

Right now the score is 0-0. At what point do you stop letting logic dictate your actions and decide to give your all to the cause, i.e., to BELIEVE?

If the score is still tied at the end of the first quarter, do you believe then?

If we're tied at the half, would you be ready then?

How about at the end of the third quarter? Will logic still prevent you from COMMITTING to the cause?

How about if the score is 7-5 midway in the fourth quarter? And if it's only 7-5 because our QB dropped a sure TD pass on a trick play, will that be enough? At that point will you get off your ass and support the team? Or will you still be convinced that Hawaii has no chance?

The task facing the team is monumental. We all KNOW that. That's why everyone is saying that a victory would "shocka the world". But if we don't EXPECT to win, then we will NOT win. It's as simple as that.

  138. Wes'side Warrior:

Am I the only one hearing, "...not gonna start cheering for the team until they start showing improvement, hopefully a few games into the season"?

What kine dat? That's my perception.

So, for folks like me, who go into every season AND every game hoping and wishing we:
    1) Execute properly,
    2) Keep mistakes to a minimum,
    3) Win the turnover battle, and
    4) Come out on top when the final gun sounds...

Are we so disillusioned that whatever we say is just so laughably stupid to others? As if we haven't read or heard any updates along the way. Must we only listen to national "Experts" who don't even know our team, and base our fanaticism solely on their word?

I know our boyz aren't going anywhere with the thought that they are going to lose. That's not the Coaches and Warriors that have chosen to represent us.

  139. d1shima:

OK. Now we know what time da Smaht Guys wake up! :-)

  140. WarriorMojo:

No matter what happens on Saturday, I will be in the stands cheering for a victory over Lamar.

  141. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    #139 Bulla,

    Well said. Nuff said.

  142. Independent Thinker:

Simple question: If Chow is so brilliant, why didn't any Div I school on the mainland hire him as HC?

  143. Wes'side Warrior:

I don't care what anyone says...

    Always Ready!

    Shock Da World!

    Imua, Warriors!

  144. WarriorMojo:

The biggest obstacle facing Coach Chow is the attitude that UH is inferior and can never play even with the "big boys". That attitude is the FIRST thing that must change for UH to rise up.

And, believe it or not, that attitude change must start with the fans because that negativity trickles down to the the kids who will someday be faced with choosing to play for UH or some other school.

  145. Bulla:

    haha,

either way, you gottah figgah, if no more support how you build da house? jus like construction, gotta build da support system first befo you try make da walls and da roof...right? you no see dem putting da roof first when dey make da hale li'dat right....das right, cuz, gotta make 'em strong from da ground up..... das called support

jus like da football guyz, dey no put da helmet on first, dey gotta trow da supporter on so dey can trow da pants on, den da odda stuff and den da helmet.....supporter goes on first, haha

no make li'dat, we gonna roll wit day boiz and da staff.....Hiki No......

  146. WarriorMojo:

    Re #145

Because other Div 1 schools were too stupid and/or too blind and/or too into racial profiling to recognize his brilliance.

    That's my answer. What's yours?

  147. maui warrior:

    DPK,

Everything is good here with me and da 'Ohana, just taught my 10 month old son the td signal on time for season, hopefully we can use it on Saturday multiple times around 1:30pm-4:30pm for UH!!!

How you doing? Sorry neva respond for a while, I had to step out of the office, hope all is well! Aloha!

  148. Buffoman:

#149 Hate to say this but...even with a severe case of your being "non-PC" I have to say that yours was a brilliant response to the comment. BTW, I do believe that Coach had offers that he turned down.

  149. Wes'side Warrior:

Hahaha! "... da supporter goes on first..."

    Right on, Bulla!

  150. madeinhawaii:

    Independent Thinker:

Chow has stated that he had been offered HC jobs but didn't think the timing or location was right for him.

It's a two-way street. You don't jump at every job offer.

  151. Wes'side Warrior:

Yup, Coach had offers that he turned down over the years. Says tons about his loyalty.

  152. NYUHTX:

    A-House:

Got the right size trees in Michigan so it should be a good trip. Go Warriors. Tired of all the orange around here. Want to see some green!

  153. Whats up:

Even though I don't think Hawaii is going to beat USC, I can't count how many times teams that are doing poorly hire a great coach and turn it around. The San Francisco 49ers last year comes to mind with the new coach Jim Harbaugh took the 49ers deep into the playoffs with the same players and QB from when Mike Singletary was coaching. So yes a great coach that know there stuff makes all the difference. Or how about Brady Hoke (SDSU) went to Michigan and in one year took Michigan to a BCS bowl with the same players and same QB too. I mean the facts are the facts, great coaches are the ones that lead the players to achieve greatness. There are many teams that recruit 4-5 star players every year and don't win there conference championship or make it to a BCS game let alone a National Championship game. Hopefully Norm Chow and his staff are the great coaches to turn around the Hawaii Warriors this season and maybe upset USC, you never know?

  154. Shoko:

    124. Hehe..not very well. But who cares!

  155. PowderPuff:

Forty points?!?! Holy smokes...I think that's too many points, but what do I know? I know that Virgos are some of my favorite people so, happy birthday to all you Virgo Warriors: Pomai, Pride., and Cliff.

  156. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

    Whats up,

Yes. Look at Notre Dame the past few years. Lots of talent, not a lot to show for it.

  157. madeinhawaii:

  158. maddog50:

We will all see Saturday. That being said I observed Coach give the most intelligent, clear concise answers whewn asked about this team. Intelligence, experience and conviction....I am also very excitedabout the D and the groupings....also the young OL, a few stars will be born on Saturday....look for organization, effort and passion on Saturday---Go Warriors!!!!

  159. Shoko:

Its the way Brian Kelly left Cincy. The bad karma followed him to ND.

  160. jimmy the lock:

Anyways, no need take the pick the score so seriously. It's all in good fun and purely entertaining. Bottom line, Got Support? Many ways to give and show support, up to you how you like provide it.

  164. Shoko:

I have to say, Kiffin sure matured since he's been at SC. In the past, he has been known to open his mouth and insert a shoe store at the wrong times.

  165. Shoko:

    Thanks for the vids, WNY.

  166. Bigislandkurt:

I don't think UH will beat USC. Does that make me a bad fan? Nope. Far from it. I've supported my rainbows, rainbow warriors, and warriors for too many years. Remember the old law of the four fishes: The only time there's problem in the ocean is when the shark wants the dolphin to swim like him."

We are all entitled to our own personal versions of Warrior fanmanship. There is no set template. Some of us are more cautious and pay more attention to the x's and o's. Some of us go more with our hearts and unfaltering love for the warriors. Guess what? Both are ok. No need sling rocks over to the other side. Everybody is entitled to be the fan they chose to be.

    Go warriors!

    BIK

  167. Kevin:

I will be looking forward to seeing the interaction between the coaching staff and their players on gameday in that kind of environment. Right away, we will see how much control and respect the coaches have from the student-athletes and that will dictate the course of the season. The discipline instilled and the reaction to corrective measures and adjustments made during the game will tell us all just how effective the coaching staff was during the spring and fall camps.

6-6 should be considered a success in my opinion and hell.. one of those 6 wins could be from USC or not.. whatever.

This season doesn’t live and die on Saturday’s game.

People are picking the score, I will predict that this coaching staff will show us all that improvements from game management to in-game adjustments will be significant compared to recent seasons.

While the offense will take a while to adjust and function as one, already one can imagine that the decisions, playcalling, and clock management are key elements that will no longer have to be filtered through various headphones before a flag is thrown for a delay of game penalty or the mis-use of a time-out and for me that alone speaks volumes towards stepping in the right direction in the long run.

For those that live and die on the entire UH sports season off of one sport, be glad it is actually here at least.

  168. al:

hahahahaha...i was practicing my speed reading skills while i glazed over pp posting.

i thought she was wishing happy birthday to those "virgin warriors".

  170. Kevin:

Shout out to the 2013 Rainbow Wahine Softballers who started their conditioning yesterday.

6:30am in the rain. Tons of cardio work including over 1,600 yards of tempo runs. Way to do work ladies!

  171. WarriorNY:

    Shoko,
No prob. I agree Kiffin has really impressed me in those pressers...

  172. al:

preparedness will count for at least one or two upsets this year.

  173. al:

kiffin does have great lip service.

  174. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    maui warrior-

    And a bowl win.

  176. Rodney:

#145 I suspect he was not hired for most of those
jobs for the same reason BYU didnt hire him.

  177. Bowwar:

The game will be played on the field. Our boys will "show-up" and do their best. It will come down to each individual to "outplay" the other person opposing them. I like our chances...We will "win" no matter what, as USC players will find out that they are in for a "battle".

Our fans gotta "show-up" as well, whether in SoCal or in front of our TV screens, let's show folks that we are supportive & proud of the Boyz representing the 808! Easy to talk trash about how we going lose or that we're not good enough...If that's being "fans" then, YOU are probably NOT good enough as well.

Imua Warriors! Let's get it on...

  178. lava:

So apparently I have to BELIEVE we will win to be a true fan. The trouble I'm having is that I have seen from the practices that we are not a good football team. I have no expectations of even a competitive game.

  179. Down with....:

Would be cool if could do a "Warrior Walk" for every 'away' game at the airport.....although i guess would be at the drop off location/check in stands since cannot get pass the security check point. This is where no matter what you think UH going do "win or lose" you can show your support and wish them a good trip and Aloha...since we the only team in America that has to fly for every away game.....

  180. al:

    kevin...true.

  181. Ballpicker:

I'm a Virgo and mahalo very much.

    Go Warriors.

  182. Inyoface:

Can't wait to put all these predictions away after this Saturday. LETS GO WARRIORS

  183. jeezy33:

what predictions? I see more Warrior victory predictions on here than USC.

  184. Ballpicker:

Great information being passed down. Moneyline is a good prop. Hey u just never know what can happen. Barkely (sp) could get hurt in a freak event and who knows. My infamous lieutenant used to tell me 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'. Oh really I used to say but I can say It has served me well since. Some small amount to keep the fire stoked.

I miss my Vegas. Go Warriors!!!!!

  185. Inyoface:

I know, but still, just counting down the days. Then we can talk about the game instead of analyzing it.

    Todays Bleacher Report: ? ?

    Injury Report (via USA Today)

Hawaii: Samson Anguay (questionable, knee) and Desmond Dean (questionable, undisclosed)

    USC: Robert Woods (probable, ankle)

    SHOCK DA WORLD!

  187. Inyoface:

No way is USC beating us by 7 touchdowns and some change, its not happening, heart or mind analysis. One Gemini, dats why so passionate but kinda mento ladat haha.

  188. st. anthony trojan:

all his chit chat about who will win or lose... for me i want and wish.. when the game is over... all will come back home with no major injuries...and all
healthy to start again the next saturday...and more progress...

  189. lava:

Being a passionate fan is kind of an interesting thing. It changes depending on the locale. I know in Philly, if the team expects to get to the post-season and comes up short, the boo birds come out. Heck, those people booed Santa. Passionate though.

I could never boo a collegiate athlete, and I hope I am not alone, although some guys (opponents) want to incite such behavior (thinking of the Fresno State guard in basketball whose names escapes me, who spent some time with the Celtics).

  190. lava:

    Yes, let's avoid injuries.

Interesting chat on ESPN how Michigan may be risking its season by playing its qb against Alabama. I can't imagine not playing him in the biggest game of the year, and in a game where MI is expected to make a game of it.

  191. kawika49:

    took the 42 points

  192. paintslinger9:

UH has some really fine players..and a great coach who has in the past and already has now, made a difference in how this team views itself. On Saturday, it could go either way. We might have a good game and USC might play flat----that would level the field and perhaps enough for us to take it. Never underestimate what a good coach can do..and what psychic control of the line of scrimmage can give you.

  193. AllG:

In order for Hawaii to hang with SC our defense is going to have to concentrate on creating turnovers. Also on offense we are good to need to throw in some trickery at the right moments, whether it be fake punts or some sort of gadget plays. We cannot turn the ball over or give up big plays on special teams. If we think we are going to walk into SC and play them straight up, it will get ugly real fast. Their talent level and the athletes they have are just too much.

  194. madeinhawaii:

I'm not saying our Warriors WILL win.. just saying that they got chance... and the WILL ... to win.

  195. Ipu Man:

Psychological Warfare is about making the enemy think he cannot possibly win.
    Shock and Awe...Go for broke...

  196. oldtimer808:

The bottom line is support Hawaii win or lose. Let the players play the game because these are ones that have endured the hard practices, the long drives home, the time away from family, studying now that classes have begun, learning a new system and having the respect of the coaches. Enough of putting the team on the lost column before the game is ever played. 1955 Hawaii went to Nebraska and everyone expected a wipe out since Nebraska beat them badly the year before but in the middle of cornhusker country UH beat them. Now this is why we play the game and I don't know the results so who am I to presume a lost before its done. GO WARRIORS! DO YOUR BEST AND NEVER GIVE UP.

  197. Inyoface:

Yup war mentality. Not comparing this game to a real war battle, but no matter who you're up against, you cannot think you will lose against them no matter their strengths. My pops is a Vietnam vet and instilled that in me.

  198. PolyMom:

Yes Lame Kiffen is much more under control. Why? Pat Haden has two handlers who's only job is to keep Kiffen muzzled and Pat Haden holds his choke chain. Not kidding. Kiffen only talks after he looks at his handlers to make sure he can answer that question. There you go. Pat Haden let me say this has done an incredible job of repairing USC's tainted reputation. And he is a very nice man. Mike Garrett did so much damage to USC having Haden back in Troy land is great!!!

Last year USC beat UCLA by 50 points. Let's say this Norm Chow is developing this team to be a PAC 12 style team. Norm Chow DID have offers to be a Head Coach. Timing, family ect. was why he never took the jobs. He is an incredible motivator. His story is an amazing story of the kid from Palolo who lettered in three sports in High School and when on to bigger things in life. His son Cam is an amazing teacher and like Norm is an incredible motivator who motivates kids to dream BIG...and go for the brass ring...and be leaders and winners.

Remember this Hawaii only lost to USC last year by 13 points if I am not mistaken. For the next three years they will lose 30 scholarships. And let me say this...they are feeling it already. Robert Woods has been hurt for a long time. The one beast on the field you got to make sure you watch is Riki Ellinson's boy. He is a beast. I am looking forward to seeing them practice Friday. And Barkley is still a bit off. If you are a true football fan on ANY given day...something can happen. May the winds and luck blow our way on Saturday.

If you have extra tickets there is a feeding frenzy going on right now for extra tickets. The Brokers in Manhattan Beach will pay you top dollar as that is Coach Chows town. So lots of folks WANT tickets. Just google and call the Brokers. The one on Highland had a huge sign today so they want tickets bad.

    GO WARRIORS
    UPSET USC!!!!!!

Okay got to pick up my kid as they are making signs to welcome Coach Chow back home and to welcome the Warriors. That is how much the kids love Cam Chow!!!!!

    Hope Calen is doing better.

    Whew!

Good exchange of views earlier today -- here on the blog. Not so much at those infernal school meetings.

Happy birthday to P, P., and RC!

Uhhh, that would be Pomai, Pride., and RainbowCliff!

    Whoo-hoo, x a whole lot of times!!!

  202. PolyMom:

    Aloha Tom

Calen is in great spirits. S#*¥ happens. I am nursing my hubby now. But he should be fine by game day. All of South Bay is so excited for Coach Chow. I even saw two Hawaii flags today flying in the wind. And in USC territory! We are counting the hours for our Warriors to arrive in town. So excited to go see them practice Friday. And so excited for all the folks coming from Hawaii to stay with us. All bedrooms full with Warrior fans who star arriving tomorrow. Busy weekend. Hermosa Beach will have 250,000 visitors for the annual Fiesta Hermosa this weekend. Going to send you something back with Don Weir.

    BEAT SC!

  203. duffer:

In 1973, the Huskies were favored to beat the Warriors by 50 points.

    Get chance!

  204. Rodney:

    Poly mom Bless you!
Here we have local boy as head coach!!!!!
We should be thankful that agreed to take
the coaching job and help Hawaii.
Imua Warriors!!!!!!!!! Win or lose to USC I support!!!!
USC 20 The University of Hawaii 24!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  205. Old School Dave:

Re: #215. UH was also still a Division II program at that time (if memory serves me correctly). The Warriors need someone like a Levi Stanley, Hal Stringert, or Jeris White, three of many UH players to play a key role in that upset of UW at Husky Stadium in 1973, to give a pre game talk.

  206. Slugger:

My hula sister is again making ti leaf lei for the Coach. She sent a lei with Kim from Na Koa. He might not wear it during the game, but will have it on before & after. Mahalo to Wendy! So sweet!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  223. Think2much:

Coach Chow said the ball is oblong and it bounces funny. He knows an upset is possible but all the pieces have to fall into place. That's why you have to play the game. That's where Coach Chow know he has a chance. Over confidence? Unexpected? Its like the Wahine VB game against the highly rated Stanford team and its all-stars. Few expected a Hawaii victory, more so when they won convincingly. USC is good, give them their respect but if Hawaii can execute to Chow's expectations, expect a battle in the fourth quarter.

  224. mikey:

Finally got my season tkts today after 13 years of watching PPV from June era I still recall the 1st year PPV was just $75.00 what a deal that was.

Tkts looks real nice with pictures of coach Chow, 4 seniors and a freshmen. Surprise that Hanohano didn't get the tkt instead of William. But they must be expecting a lot of great things from him. He had a lot of rotation alone with Alo, Daily and Founa.

It came along with a parking pass so I could go in up to game time will be nice change.

GO Warriors! IT's Game time this WEEK!

  225. mikey:

OH we'll still be watching on Fox TV this week along with 20+ family and friends at our house plus 8 dogs and my cat Apollo.

  228. mikey:

At the Pigskin Pigout last week the guy was offering me a round trip plus tkts to USC game for $399 what a deal, I think he had four tkts to sell. I couldn't get time off this late especially I'm at a new job... Too bad. but some other lucky people got to go last minute.

I told him he should Action it off and he'll get double the price. People were going nuts bidding for items. The one I had an eye for went for $1000 and I figured it will go up that far but my budget was up to half that. My wife will kill me if I came home with a wooden football. lol

Old School Dave....I was on that team and there in Washington that day....Harold was a man of few words, but smiled a lot....Jeris was the same way....Levi seldom spoke.....they all let there play speak for them....Coach Holmes was not a fire em up kind of guy....it was more of a fierce stare in the opponents eye and "lets play this ting" Coach Price on the D always had one speed for those guys it was always downhill....do not think when the dust settles anything needs to be done except play the game...Coach Chow will have them ready and they will play for themselves and all of us----Go Warriors

Never give up, never give in! Play it to win each quarter right through the fourth! Play it to win it! Give me your best! May the good Lord protect you in battle, give you success in everything you purpose, safe travels and safe return, and may that return be victorious! Amen!

Weather Update for USC game--Hawaii girl Maria Quiban and Fox LA weather gal predicts...

We have been having a serious heat wave. They are saying it will be 95 or more at the Coliseum. They also just said on news this morning rules for hand bags. Try not to bring one as you will be sent to the hand check line. Takes long time to get through. Drink lots of water as heat has been severe even at the beaches. They say it will cool down to 65 degrees by the evening. That is low since it has been in the 70's at night.

No alcohol sales so drink up before you go into the Coliseum if you drink. They also said make sure you have a photo ID with you. This is a new thing. If you need to park and the lot is full across the street is parking starting at 50 dollars. If you valet across the street it cost 150 dollars. Avoid that lot and look good at signs.

Will update if they give more info.

  246. JayT:

USC Fan here. I've been cruising through this blog for about a week. Much respect to the people of Hawaii. Always had a love of Hawaii and it's culture. Big fan of The Green. Just wanted to give a few thoughts from the other perspective. A lot of talk about USC's D-Line. There is a returning starter, Wes Horton at DE, who is very good. He's been banged up, and is 50/50 on playing this Saturday. George Uko, a DT, started several games last season and will be a star eventually. Lining up next to Uko will be Antuan Woods, who has a ton of potential. In that rotation will be a true freshman, Leonard Williams, who has the look of a Big-Time NFL guy. I expect Williams to be a Starter before the end of this season. The other Defensive end spot will be split between this kid, Tavaii, who played some last year. He has a motor. And a JC speedster named Breslin. Greg Townsend, son of the Former Raider, will be in that mix at DE. A ton of potential for these kids.
The Hawaii matchup, from 2 years ago, is still on the mind of the USC Defense. I'd look for a fantastic effort from that side. Especially the DB, Nik Robey, who had a terrible day versus UH. He's an All-American now and he will show up big. The USC Offense has a tendency to start the season slow. Kiffin is doing some tinkering still, but the Offense is lights out. I wouldn't expect Kiffin to call off the dogs, with the entire country watching USC again. I don't see Hawaii containing all of the talent USC has on Offense (Redd and Moody Mc at RB, Lee, Woods, Flournoy, Agholor and Famer at WR, Telfair, Grimble and Pomee at TE, Vainuku at FB.)
Know that Hawaii's players will give it all they've got every snap. Just too much talent for the Trojans. Anyways, thanks for letting me post. Good luck and Bless Up.

    Morning,

Maddog50 that story just gave me the "chils".

Mr. Pomai Hawaii. 38. USC 29

  257. A-House:

Win or lose, Hawaii students and athletes are winners because they chose to get their college education at UH.

Does not matter if finances played a huge role or a "specialty" (from Princess Bride) or love for a coach and his/her program - only thing that matters is that they will represent UH and Hawaii after they graduate and ply their trade around the globe. It is nearly impossible to leave Hawaii without gaining some perspective of Hawaii's culture and its people.

As Mrs A-House says, "win if you can", "lose if you must", "but always give your absolute best".

  258. mo808:

Kekoa, gotta stop hitting the snooze button :)

Play with sportsmanship and fairplay. Play with humility and respect. PLAY WITH CLASS. We know you will make us proud to say we are the Warriors.

    B) Big News not yet finished...

#260. That was the first time, in a while, that the ncaa has granted an immediate transfer for someone coming in to USC. Most suspect Josh Shaw was approved only due to the ncaa granting the immediate transfer of Amir Carlisle, who went from USC to notre dame.
    #261. Here's to a good one. Enjoy.

  279. ryan_12177:

Silva is a good player. They really liked him in Baltimore but it was a numbers game and to be quite honest the Cowboys roster is a lot easier to make on the defensive side than the Ravens...

I miss the days when we had full sized safeties.. I like JHT and Bubba, but last year we saw a lot of bigger receivers giving our safeties a hard time..
