Samia out for the season

September 17th, 2012

Tough deal for nose tackle Moses Samia, who will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL, head coach Norm Chow announced today.

Samia will undergo surgery after the swelling subsides.

Look for Tavita Woodard, Marcus Malepeai and, maybe, Mike Andrade to join the rotation at NT/DT.

Well, technically, the UH coaches were back in meetings and video sessions yesterday, but implementing this week's game plan begins today.

The Warriors will have conditioning drills this afternoon, and the developing players will be involved in scrimmage-like drills.

In another two weeks the Warriors defensive line will receive a boost with the return of Hunter Thomson, who recently underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his knee. Thomson has been a difficult-to-block defensive tackle in drills. He is expected to move into a rotation that has been depleted because of injuries to nose tackle Moses Samia and defensive tackle Calen Friel.

Thomson is a Waialua High graduate who spent the past two years on a church mission in Arizona.

Best wishes to former UH defensive end Alasi Toilolo, who will go on a two-year church mission.
