OT bonus
By Stephen Tsai
Dejon Allen, a 2012 Dominguez High graduate, has met the requirements to play for the Warriors in 2013.
Allen will join in June. He will count toward the 2013 recruiting class.
Allen played on both the offensive and defensive lines at Dominguez. He will compete initially as an offensive tackle for the Warriors.
Allen signed with the Warriors in February 2012. The Warriors reserved his scholarship while he worked on meeting eligibility requirements.
The Warriors will have three offensive tackles in this recruiting class — Allen, David Griffin and John Wa‘a. Griffin is a Mesa College transfer who began UH classes this week. Wa‘a is a Kahuku High senior.

The Warriors do not have any on-campus recruiting visits scheduled for this weekend.
But they are booked solid for the next two weekends leading to the Feb. 6 signing day.

Ohayooooooogozaimasu!!!!
Two sets of lyrics today . . . Simon and Garfunkel's Sounds of Silence:
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision
That was planted
In my brain
Still remains
Within the Sound
of Silence [emphases added.]
Mmph. How prophetic/art-imitates-life.
And . . . Jacko's . . . oh, you'll love . . . little known, (oddly enough) but, still funky, tune called Girlfriend from the Off the Wall record!
Girlfriend
I'm gonna tell yo' boyyyyfriend [yeeaaaahhh]
Tell him, oh hoo!
Exactly what we're doin', girrrrrll

I found Hank's a bit pricey. Costco may be cheap, but that's a bargain for a good, filling hot dog.
January 18th, 2013 at 7:54 am
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
The hot dogs at Costco are the Hebrew brand beef hotdogs and Polish. Great bargain! You may notice that a lot of seniors go there to eat lunch.
The Hank's hotdogs are the ones flown in from Chicago. Skin is crisp. I think they are grilled. Good stuff - haven't been down Coral Street for a while but ate there three or so times.
Hank's burgers sounds good. Waiting for AL's opinion. He's the one that had lead me down the hamburger's primrose path.
January 18th, 2013 at 7:56 am

I think Ronaiah will face Samoan justice in some form. Diane O'Meara may get a gig on TV a'la Katherine Webb. Given the choice, I rather spend my money on a Costco dog than Hank's. Also, Honolulu Burger Co. is a pretty tasty burger...but it ain't cheap like a Mickey D!

Hallelujah brother, Dejon Allen in the ohana.
Jeezy, does the team have room for Barker or Masters?
ST, did Simeon Thomas commit or is he still deciding?
Is Hautau coming for a visit? Lotuleilei?
January 18th, 2013 at 8:09 am
my wish is that they make a foot long arabiki sausage. that would go really well with soft portuguese sweet bread bun, sauerkraut, onions, dill relish, a hint of heinz ketchup, and of course some "dejon" mustard!!!
January 18th, 2013 at 8:10 am
gobows...that's okay. as long as they sell 'em for a buck half. haha.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:11 am

honolulu burger co. didn't pass my test. was OK but meh.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:19 am
44. My guess is we have a better chance at Barker considering we were his 1st offer. Thomas is still deciding apparently.. And Hautau supposed to be tripping us 2/1 I think.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:20 am
Good morning Tsaikos!
Welcome Mr. Allen.
Tommui - Costco USED to serve Hebrew National dogs, but now they serve their own brand. Not as good.

Welcome Dejon Allen!
Wish mainland Costco sold Akahi or Redondo hotdogs, instead of the Kirkland brand they normally sell.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:35 am
#38 #39 Yeah, Hank's is pricy...Made it a point to try the "different" dogs there. Figure if I'm gonna pay a premium, might as well make it worthwhile. The buffalo dog was delicious, as was the reindeer dog special they had just before Christmas. The duck fat fries are to die for though.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:46 am
Wait a minute!
ow I am confused???
ST, are you sure that there are no visitors this weekend?
Are you sure that Kalan Montgomery is not being offered and is not visiting this weekend?
Kapakahi said so and he knows it all. You better go check with him.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:48 am
My favorite burger place was The Shack (hot sausage on the burger) with onion rings. Haven't been there for years. Been to Ted's==pretty good. Wouldn't mind trying other places, even though I am not Diogenes Sinope in search of burgers.
Also had very good burgers on cruise ship buffets and pool side. Surprisingly tasty 1/2 lb. burgers and 12 square feet of condiments. Price is right too, but I have not found good fries (only frozen) or thick onion rings. No Hawaiian teri sauce either.
A favorite dinner/karaoke venue makes a tasty 1/2 lb homemade burger on bun too, but do not have a lot of extras and condiments to go with it. Everybody orders shrimp tempura and nabeyaki udon there.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:51 am
still high on my list is an iowa braut with real homemade sauerkraut.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:53 am

I like to hear stories like Dejon Allen. A kid who didnt qualify at first, yet stuck not only with the academic side to get qualified, but also stuck with his original school of choice.
We've heard a ton of times how some kids get qualified, and then someone else more "attractive" comes along...and they basically say aloha to the ones that were there for them from the beginning.
January 18th, 2013 at 9:05 am
Thank God. Lord knows they need the help.

Costco used to sell those pre-cooked big burgers (burger only, no bun) then they went to doing Kirkland (not as good).
Used to heat them in my smoker/kamado and put pepper jack cheese. Place them on a big bun with man onions (the one with the bite, not sweet) and a thick slice of steak tomato. Oh, mayo on the buns please. Was, in my opinion, better than Ted's.

My favorite hamburger was from Andy's Drive Inn in Kailua... because I grew up eating and craving them. Simple small patty with their special ketchup/relish and mustard/onion sauce. They were 13 cents each when I started buying them with my own money. When I had the craving, I would drive to Kailua just to buy the burgers until Andy's closed.
Now Byron's Drive Inn is closing... end of a burger era for me.
Anyone got the sauce recipes?

January 18th, 2013 at 9:48 am
If I remember correctly, Tiger paid Elin a lump sum of 100 million in alimony, not including personal assets. When you consider that, its more like a 100 million more if he decides to cheat on her again in the future. Unless, of course, there is a clause that states she gets to keep that money on top of the 200 million. Either way, he's lucky to get her back.
January 18th, 2013 at 9:52 am
@SteveM
I remember being sent on my bike by my Dad to go pick up Andy's burgers. The payoff?... I would get myself a slush float to down before I sped back to Manono St on my chopper bike.

W&M in Kaimuki has the best burgers! No need da ketchup/mustard/mayo just eat em plain! Buy three when you go. Two to eat right away and da other for laters. Actually tastes better around 4 hrs later.
Remember when W&M was up on the corner of 9th & Waialae in that greenish drive-in....over 50 years ago!

This was posted in the FOX sports article, "In the OTL interview, J.R. Vaosa and Celeste Tuioti-Mariner of California said their cousin began an online romance in 2008 with a woman who portrayed herself as a model. Vaosa said the cousin showed Vaosa an online photo of a woman from a Victoria's Secret catalog that he said was Kekua."

Best "old school" hamburger has to be the "backstore" hamburger behind Washington Intermediate School. That with a "suicide" or green river was all a kid needed, and the burger was just 25 cents for the longest time. I think when they finally closed, the burgers were 40 cents.

I usually read the print Star Advertiser at breakfast.
Today's two main stories are MT's Silence and the disclosure that Larry Ellison is the one who bought Island Air....
Lessee...Larry Ellison bought and now owns most of Lanai. Buying Island Air ensures continued air service, jobs, and tourism to Lanai. It prevents one of the few remaining airlines in Hawaii from going under.
So guess which story had top billing with photos...
Sheesh

@#123 WarriorMojo: Agree...that Chicago's "horn driven" music is great. Unfortunately, the mixer at the Blaisdell concert let the drums, bass, and synthesizer take precedence. The horns and winds were relatively muted by comparison....so sad! At times they sounded like any other R&R band.
January 18th, 2013 at 12:35 pm
Many thanks to Mr Ellison for insuring air service to a great destination.
January 18th, 2013 at 12:42 pm
Hey Chicago Transit Authority was one of the few bands that went to see when they first came here. I stood in front of that horn section. But I also used to wear ear plugs at some concerts.

Congrats Dejon! Welcome to Warrior Nation!

Yep Lucy Goo's. No parking, well never need, no traffic that long ago!

When I got home from work yesterday I had a message on my answering machine from Thom Kaumeyer thanking me from for my na koa donation. Wow...I've been giving for years and I never got a call from anyone before.
Good things are happening.

Want a good burger. Treasure Island in Vegas was pretty good. Ate it late in the night and maybe due to my hunger it tasted pretty good.

Don't read this if you are an ND fan, but if the hypocrisy of big time college football and the cult of personality interests you, this column spares no one.

Heh, gobows, a Grease hopes you're on the jokey side of your post there. The heck # 5 thought he was? Something between Encyclopedia Brown and New York Undercover? (how did that bar at the end of each show manage to get THE best contemp' and classic R&B singers around is beyond a Grease
)
He NEEDED TO GO TO THE AUTHORITIES.
If this is his story, ND looks EXTRA bad -- they would've needed to announce just that in this post-Paterno age: "our student-athlete was privy to [at the very least] information, which would have prevented or all-out stopped a crime."
Will # 5 throw his alma mater under the bus just to procure the "explanation of the century?" Stay tuned.
Seriously . . . if we can get a shocking way to change our minds a la "now imagine if she was white" McConahey closing statement at the end of A Time to Kill, a Grease is all for it. Seriously. Then again . . . really don't see that happening. But, a Grease'll wait for it. Time's up at the, say, end of the year. (awwww, how generous Grease, yeah?)

Burgers at Shiro's...........
Try Shiro's Loco Moco...........Ono!
January 18th, 2013 at 1:56 pm

Ah Shiro's
Don't forget the Char Shiu Fried Rice with the Loco Moco.........winner!

Old school hamburgers can be found at Tasty Freeze in Waianae. Simple hamburger with sauce on bun with a slice of american cheese. Reminds me of small kiid time going to Diner's in Waimalu for their hamburger special. Hamburger, small fries and a small drink for 99 cents.
January 18th, 2013 at 2:08 pm
Wa'a OT isn't he more of a OG and is mostly playing OG at Kahuku. Dejon Allen, I thought would come in as a DE vice an OT. Would he and Wa'a not be considered undersized for the position. Griffin fits the prototypical part of what an OT should look like. How's the development of Koloamatangi??? I would have liked to see that guy on the defensive line instead of on offense. Just wondering, cause in my opinion I don't like to change a top player who has gotten accolades playing a certain position change to something that he's not full on familiar with. Granted we got athletes but I would keep a LB at LB a DE at DE and the such, just my take. If they get bigger, stronger, faster, they could be hybrids no problem but I would keep the player primarily at the position he knows best. Takes too long at this level to develop skills suited for a different position if the player hasn't had much experience playing it.
January 18th, 2013 at 2:09 pm
The best hamburger I ate was In-N-Out in Cali but Ted's is a close second. Not a big burger guy and haven't traveled the world so my experiences are few.

January 18th, 2013 at 3:27 pm
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!
BTW, if you visit the mainland, gotta check out this restaurant Fudrucker's. They're all over the U.S. mainly close to shopping malls in big cities. They make every type of burger you can imagine: 1/4, 1/2, 1 lb beef burgers! Chicken burgers, buffalo meat burgers, elk burgers, wild boar burgers, ostrich burgers, alligator burgers! Choose your own sauce, chipotle, barbeque, teriyaki, southwestern. Buffalo burger is pretty good! There's also regular food for those with weak stomachs! Great place to eat if you're traveling with a youth/high school sports team.

January 18th, 2013 at 3:38 pm
a quote from Ennis (Texas) Municipal Court Judge W. Lee Johnson:
"Too funny. So it seems that a certain unnamed (very) recent Heisman Trophy winner from a certain unnamed “college” down south of here got a gift from the Ennis P.D. while he was speeding on the 287 bypass yesterday. It appears that even though the OU defense couldn’t stop him, the City of Ennis P.D. is a different story altogether. Time to grow up/slow down young ‘un. You got your whole life/career ahead of you. Gig Em indeed.
I meant to say “allegedly” speeding, my bad."
that quote was taken from that judge's facebook page...what an idiot...maybe he should spend some time being a court appointed attorney pro bono.
January 18th, 2013 at 3:55 pm
wmojo...you had to remind of the concert that i missed.
enjoyed your read.
at the same time, purists would also agree that a simple song like "color my world" was just as brilliant.

January 18th, 2013 at 4:03 pm
Here it has to be Norma's and Red Robin for burgers.
Yum!
January 18th, 2013 at 4:11 pm
Howzit, Gang!
Great to hear about Dejon Allen! Way to stick with it!
"But, of course!"
And as far as burgers go, my family is totally convinced... Fuddruckers is our winner, hands down! After ordering the type and size of burger you want, as well as how you want it cooked, you head over to a salad-bar type station to finish off your sandwich. At first, you think there's so many choices and combinations for your burger. Then, you realize it's only the beginning, as you make your way along the station, loading up on every imaginable topping. It makes for a super sloppy sandwich... but, oh man! So hard to walk away once pau... so full... satisfyingly full!
January 18th, 2013 at 4:18 pm

According to an e-mail I got today from Warrior Sports Netwok I following 3 recruits are scheduled in this weekend. Jayme Otomero, Kalen Montgomery, and Isaac. The first 2 are DBs. Otomero is rated a 3 star player by Scout.com. It's pretty strange because the site has him verbally comitted to Arizona State so I don't know why Hawaii would be bringing him in, unless he's serious about us. Isaac is a DE. He's big 6'5" and about 280 according to WSN. He's a JC guy from Foothill. Just passing it along to those who might be interested.
January 18th, 2013 at 4:41 pm

January 18th, 2013 at 5:01 pm
Ah, more infos, more infos, thanks for this, gobows. Beats "GPA" tidbits (I mean, aren't student-athletes SUPPOSED to do well in school?) and other assorted sports news that we can find on our own, if not already know (Tsai's stuff is always funky fresh, the reason for this blog as well as actual discussion)
Looks like we had a fake "Capt. America," whatever you wanna call in our midst. Touted, touted, touted, and, well, certain trophy and nat'l championship losses might've (might've) been excuseable, but, what it's snowballed into, well.
The gold just might be fake, but worse -- we don't know the extent of the rot inside.
January 18th, 2013 at 5:13 pm
Haahhaah, Oh, wait. Grease getting ahead of himself. That judge was talkin' 'bout the Man' who actually won the Heisman. Ahhh, stupid Grease, stupid Grease, stupid Grease (hey, they can't be all gems, folks
).
Meant about the "GPA" and "sports news we can find on our own" though; THOSE and Tsai's news always laundry fresh! G.T.L.

Nobody is here on a recruiting trip this weekend.
Nobody.
Do I have to send you an e-mail alert to say that nobody is here?
January 18th, 2013 at 5:26 pm
Dejon Allen is being brought in as an offensive lineman.

Ya'll will remember Sylvia from the '80s and her hit . . . um . . . called . . . um . . . that is . . . her hit called Nobody:
Your nobody called today
She hung up when I asked her name
And I wonder if she thinks she's being clever?
You say nobody's after you
The fact is what you say is true
But I can love you like nobody can
Even better
Late last night we went for a drive
You were miles away
I asked, "who's on your mind?"
You said, "Nobody!!!!
Why do you ask?"
Oh HER again?
I could've told you that . . .
Heh. Double entendré on lyrics today.
Actually, kinda' funky song for non-R&B.
January 18th, 2013 at 5:48 pm
Ok... if you have twitter, look up #teoing and check out the new craze that's taken over the world.
Since this blog post has been commandeered by burger comments, here's my two cents... Fukuburger Truck is a must eat when in Las Vegas.
January 18th, 2013 at 5:50 pm
Mr. Grease
That was a great song.
Wasn't Sylvia one of the great disco writers?
She died a couple of years ago.

Certainly unexpected.

I'm beginning to think that these recruits that are supposedly visiting this weekend don't exist.
Thank you, that is all.
January 18th, 2013 at 6:11 pm
Stephen Tsai,
Ah. That's sad to hear. Oh, well. At least she really died, brrrrrrrraaaaawwwwrrrrrrrr, OK, a Grease'll stop.
Seriously, though, yeah, glad you remembered it, Mr. Tsai.
Lot of one hit wonders around (not necessarily # 1 hits, but, certainly hits. Arguably, '80s had the best of 'em when it came to funki- and great beats- and yarn-ness. Oh, Mickey!, Toni Basil's one of the best of 'em. Rock Me Amadeus by Falco. What else?

"No. Never," Te'o said in an interview with ESPN's Jeremy Schaap.
"I wasn't faking it," he said. "I wasn't part of this."
Te'o also said that he did not make up anything to help his Heisman Trophy candidacy.
"When (people) hear the facts, they'll know," he said. "They'll know that there is no way that I could be part of this."
Okay, I believe him. And now I'll just be moving on from here on out.

Oh, Stephen Tsai . . . 'nother great disco scribe, (think she also passed on, no? Man, disco song writers going faster than microbiologists, no?) Alice Bridges!!! Ya'll know I Love the Nightlife:
Please don't talk about love tonight.
Please don't talk about sweet love.
Please don't talk about being true
And awwwll the trouble
That we've been through
Ahhhhhh, please don't talk about all of the plans
We had for fixing this broken romance.
I want to go where the people dance.
I want some [a Grease's note: the "action" in the following is most probably the best use, presentation, and pronounciation in piop music his'try. Here we go . . .]
actshon!
I want to live!
Actshon, I got so much to give.
I want to give it
I want to get some too, whoah ohhhhh awwwW.

Oh!
I love the night life!
I got to boogie!
On the disco round,
YeeaAaahhhhhh!
Ah. Disco.
January 18th, 2013 at 6:34 pm
Oh, mercy, redzone, yes, Nobody Knows it But Me, great tune on the slow jams radio station in the respective part of town, yes?
A Grease really is just, just . . . The Deele's music is really great. Wish they and another great R&B group, The Time kept together (though a Grease understands the latter renamed as The Original Seven something or other, Prince not allowing the group to keep the "original" name)
The Deele didn't just have Two Occasions; the oddly themed, but terrific, Shoot 'Em Up Movies was par for the culture's course in the '90s, yes?

BIK and 3-Prong...
Five Guys is okay, but really... nothing compared to Fuddruckers. I mean, Five Guys is more like the old style mom & pop diner that made homestyle burgers. It's a little messier than In-n-Out due to the toppings, but still just a sandwich that can be held with one hand. Just my opinion...
I wonder what that Adam guy from Man v. Food would say is his best burger?

See (thanks for details, Shoko) . . . this is just arrogance:
Well, isn't one of the facts that he never met her? (for the googleteenth time?)
You know, HIS generation is supposed to be the most tech-savvy of us all. Yet, a # of 'em fall into this "catfish" mess -- they know it exists, but, they let themselves fall for it. The 60s kids took conscientious objector status, went to university instead, and BURNED their draft cards; maybe not the most American things to do at the time, but, they were reacting to a very known (to them) social ill at the time.
60 Minutes should grill 'em.

OSU Beavers apparently there too.
January 18th, 2013 at 7:30 pm
I think it was just a small joke gone bad.. Eventually they got sick pleasure out of it... I don't think the hoaxers thought it would hit national news.. By then , I think they panicked and didn't know what to do. Manti wasn't a huge name up until that week in college football ... I'd even say Jarvis jones and clowney had more hype and publicity ... Notre dame wasn't on anyone's radar besides Lou holtz

Ahhhhhahaha, you "One Hit Wonder" gang is allllll right. Ah, Laura Branigan -- the heck she up to these days?
Think even before Gangnam Style and Macarena, the best seeming "all dance together" move came from a vid' where the intentions WEREN'T for dance moves at all -- anybody recall the ninjas clapping in rhythm in the Radio Gaga vid' by Queen?

To bad the Star Advertiser did not get the first interview. Would have been a coup for the paper. But some of the writers really need to go back and read their articles regarding this Manti incident. One of the sports writers articles is to me bordered on libel. Go back and read all the articles for the last four days. Not you ST. But you know who you are.
Seems like ESPN is satisfied. Kick ass Manti and show them your stuff. Lower draft stock. LOL! Heck not like he killed a person, raped a woman, was a thief or drunk. It's all about football no one cares in the NFL about this. So to the losers who did this to him...you'll get your public shame. And maybe jail time also now that the Feds are investigating this matter.
Good Luck Manti!

January 18th, 2013 at 8:28 pm

January 18th, 2013 at 8:30 pm
Right, right, gobows, you got it, you got it . . . the white-dressed ninjas. Probably Freddie Mercury's doing, too. ("I want everu b--ch dressssssed in white ninja outfitssss and all clyapping at the sssame f---g time!!!")
Regarding the Te'o thing . . . don't let one interview convince you as much as taking only one class will earn you a university or college degree.
Make up your own mind about this.
• If there's hoaxsters, where ARE they? Find 'em
• Why hasn't this Tuissopo (sorry for the spelling) character been taken in?
• Are you REALLY satisfied with the ESPN questions?
It's getting to where, heh, whether he's part of it or not, what his sexual orientation is or not, who gives a crap. At the onset, none of this would help us fill the gas tank or not.
But, teach your kids -- apply integrity to eveything you do.
Watching the "interview-preview" on ESPN, now. He is seeming to admit he never met her. "He lied to his father . . . long discussions on the phone . . . excited to meet." OK? But, what about her being touted, again, at the onset. as his girlfriend? Did his father meet Kekua?
The main questions aren't being answered clearly.
Dec' 6 -- a day which will live in Te'o's life (if that day really happened?
Be open minded . . . and you'll see this is getting worse and worse, weirder and weirder (drug slingers, for starters.)
January 18th, 2013 at 8:36 pm
This what Te'o needs to worry about: whatever his answers are . . . he better damn well hope a Lewinsky or a Fawn Hall or a Kato Kalin doesn't come out of the woodwork . . . or WORSE, someone who'll take Te'o's word and say, "oh, no, no, no, no that's 100% wrong and I'm about to get my 15 minutes of fame and the deals to go with it!"
January 18th, 2013 at 8:41 pm
Me thinks the only thing that Manti has to worry about is that he lied to his dad.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:48 pm
So if Dejon counts toward 2013, he has to resign right? Now if he says he coming in to play Dline, but UH saying Oline, he could change his mind and go elsewhere?

I hope he makes it here.

the FBI might be able to get a conspiracy to defraud charge, computer fraud or some kind of FCC violation, but if no money or items of value were swindled from the fraudulent act, the perpetrators would probably not be charged with a crime. At least not where it concerns Manti. No law against playing with someones emotions, the church has been doing that for centuries. But using the likeness of Diane O'Meara, that may constitute as identity theft.

Dejon Allen already signed last year. That Letter of Intent expires in 1 year. So as long as he enrolls before LOI day, the UH must honor his scholarship.

Grease #230 . . . you're telling people not to let one article of denial from Te'o convince people he was a victim, yet all it took was one article from deadspin to get you and many people here to find him guilty of involvement.
There are apparently more facts that will come out, as Te'o says when people see the facts, they'll know he wasn't involved. How about we let those facts come out already and stop dragging Te'o through the dirt.
You have expressed your dislike for Te'o well before all of this came about, and have used the hoax to continue your insults of him. Many of your posts, related to whatever, seem to squeeze in some slight at him. While I enjoy reading your commentary about UH football, I find your comments about Te'o more hateful than I do humorous, as maybe you intend.
As I have said before, it will be easier to admit I was wrong if it turns out Te'o was indeed involved than it will be for others to admit they were wrong for assuming he was guilty.
January 18th, 2013 at 9:42 pm
#247 good to know. Looking forward
January 18th, 2013 at 9:46 pm
After hearing Jeremy Schaap's interview, I may sound foolish but I actually believe Te'o was the victim in all of this. And I'm a guy 24 hours ago that felt he was 100% involved. This is a really sad situation...
Yeah, he embellished a bit and lied about the extent of their relationship but that seems like all he's guilty of... Very sad situation...
Good luck to him...
January 18th, 2013 at 9:47 pm
al . . . still a lot of questions. Supposed to believe this girl was the ONLY girl Te'o was so interested in? Women on campus . . . not all of 'em gain weight their first year, whatever, some are haaahhhhhhhhhht.
He. Never. Saw. Her. That'll just simply linger. Some will brush it off -- methinks the NFL, 'specially with other scandals they have to worry about, have already brushed so -- but, man . . . only in the moviess, only in the movies would anyone wait so long, or decide not to, see his "girlfirend." This part no make sense, plus, buggah supposed to be smaht and, thusly, smaht enough to deduce.
He got character, integrity, smarts . . . we knew enough about Te'o -- we, we in Hawaii -- got enough o'this reported, mentioned by announcers alone almost EVERY Punahou game on TV . . . and, somehow, the culmination of this guy's gifts didn't allow him to see red flags. Don't gimme this "he's so spiritual, he's so benevolent, and good heart." You have the gifts that he supposedly has . . . you gonna be more instinctual and brighter than others, and if not even that . . . if you find roadblocks preventing you from SEEING YOUR "GIRLFRIEND" of all people. He wants to move on, now? He had no faculty of mind to move on, then? Missing pieces, missing pieces.
True, Tuisasopo looks like a bit of a Vicomte de Valmont right now.
The thing we're 100% sure of -- this entire account is good to teach to your kids at some point. Kinda' PG rated so . . . maybe not when they still in elementary or so.
January 18th, 2013 at 10:01 pm
Heh, 'scuse a Grease, uh, Tuisasopo is a bit more of a Marquise de Merteuil instead of a Valmont.
Kev-1, I think you hate a Grease. IwonderwhyyouhateaGrease.
A chambara (that's "samurai" film) said the best thing about "the truth" . . . that it's hard to prove. Does that sit well with you, kev-1? That he never met her and knew -- hadto have known as much as IBM, who crafted the very punchcards for the Nazi's final soultion efforts, must've known as easily as newspaper bins in front of their building reported Germany's atrocities at the same time [let a Grease take a breath, gasp -- that this girl, especially on the day she died, was identified as his girlfriend . . . there are just still many questions.
But, you're mistaken, kev-1 . . . a Grease IS willing to let it all play out. Look what's come out so far. And maybe this is the end of it.
And it's a good lesson to teach your kids. And if that"s what comes out of this. Terrific.
January 18th, 2013 at 10:06 pm
Grease, I don't hate a Grease. I just think there have been many, a Grease included, who have been quick to judge. BUT, I am glad to hear you say that you are willing to let it play out. And yes, the truth certainly is hard to prove.
Yes, a good lesson for the kids.

January 18th, 2013 at 10:12 pm
Anyway, I hope Te'o's draft stock drops to the NY Giants for completely selfish reasons. Whether you believe him or not, he's one hell of a player...
January 18th, 2013 at 10:21 pm
If you believe Te'o after tonight's well, let's not call it the zenith of an interview, OK? If you 100% believe what Te'o said . . . well, let's call that an analogy to your PERFECT dream home. Everything EVERYTHING you want in a home is in your perfect home. Men . . . got everything in it, whether you're a bachelor or have a family, you got your mancave perfect. EVERYTHING you want in that home. Womens who believe Te'o tonight, you too. Perfect home. Walk in closet (pardon the pun for . . . well). All you want.
There's a recognizable hole somewhere in the house -- you can situate it anywhere, but at some point you, your guestS, ANYONE WHO GOES INTO that house before they leave, they'll see that whole. You can put your hand in through it. Put your head in it look around. OK? Got it?
That you believe in Te'o's story after tonight, you have all that above. The hole doesn't bother you and it's not dangerous. But it's there. Again, the above applies only to those who believe in Te'o's story -- as splayed out on ESPN tonight.
Your perfect home = 100% you believe in Te'o after tonight.
Big nondangerous BUT recognizable (to you 100%s) = Manti never meeting his GF.
It's that simple. And it's your dwelling.
January 18th, 2013 at 10:21 pm
Here's one of the aspects of the Te'o story that I find so fascinating: most people will believe whatever they want to believe. They are NOT analytical. They are NOT open-minded. They are NOT judgment-free. Rather, most people are already emotionally invested in a position and they expend all their energy defending that investment in the face of whatever new information is uncovered.
If you choose to believe in Manti, that is your choice. No one will ever be able to convince you that you are wrong. Similarly, if you believe Manti is covering up or lying, nothing he says or does will ever change your mind. Again, nothing wrong with that. It's your choice.
But I would hope that everyone will be honest with himself or herself about their beliefs. If your belief is based on faith or suspicion, charity or disdain, that's perfectly up to you. Just be honest and understand that faith, suspicion, charity, disdain - none of those things have anything to do with factual analysis or logic.

Hey there, WarriorNY . . . how're things shaping up in NY?
See, folks, a Grease and WarriorMojo, we give same sentiments @ same time, just about. Don't. Don't. Don't. DON'T believe the hype -- Public Enemy.
This was NOT a definitive interview. Don't allow yourself to board the train. Drop that filled Dixie cup. Get out of the utopia because it doesn't exist.
House-hole analogy. Spread it.
January 18th, 2013 at 10:32 pm
Grease, I said I thought he was 100% guilty of being involved before I heard his interview...(I tend to word things badly this late at night) And now have changed my mind...
January 18th, 2013 at 10:38 pm
@gobows I believe that Dejon Allen can leave any time he want Dejon has other schools literally waiting for him to change his mind so if I was norm chow I would give him what the he want and play DLine...
January 18th, 2013 at 10:39 pm
Dejon is to good of a player for you to choose let him choose he knows whats best...
January 18th, 2013 at 10:44 pm
And, and that's your absolute right, WarriorNY. Goes without saying I don't think any worse of you, heh, of course. How 'bout also considering this scenario from the perfect home-hole analogy/presentation which, uh, I think you now own after saying you believe Te'o, a Grease can presume, 100%? Here we go. This is just a scenario; if this had been an actual house . . uh. Here we go:
Perfect home-hole owner: [greets guest coming into the perfect home] "Welcome!"
Guest: [walks in] "oh, my God. This home . . . oh, my God. This home has EVERYTHING."
Perfect home-hole owner: "Perfect, isn't it?"
Guest: "oh, goes without saying. Say. What's that hole in here?"
Perfect home-hole owner: "Hmmm? Oh, that? It's not dangerous to me and it doesn't bother me."
Guest: "oh. What is it?"
Perfect home-hole owner: "I've never been able to explain it."

January 18th, 2013 at 10:48 pm
WarriorNY, are you up watching b-ball? What do you think of a return of Dejon? This is an open question, anyone can answer.
January 18th, 2013 at 11:35 pm
Want to read the transcripts of the interview but what I heard tonight along with the duplicate ploy evidence and tearful admittance of guilt by Tuiasosopo lead me to give a spiritual young gifted man the benefit of the doubt. Kids these days live on the computer. Heck, I live this semi secret little part of my life on this blog. Other
more frequent posters do too and choose not to socialize face to face. Why is this so hard to believe?
January 18th, 2013 at 11:37 pm
Grease, I do not know 100%. I'll say as a result of Schaap's report, I believe its more likely than not that Te'o was the victim. I believe he embellished a little bit. I thought for sure he was in on it until Schaap explained Te'o let him look at his text messages...
I just got home and wanted to see what the latest on Manti's situation and saw he did an interview... I hate that he did the interview on Friday night. By monday, his interview will be forgotten and the bad press he's gotten all week will just continue. His PR people need some work. He should have spoken up on Thursday. I think any politician knows that if you want a story to not get much pub, you discuss on friday night because by Monday the conversation has changed...
I'm very happy that Dejon qualified. He is going to be a stud. I think it shows a lot of character by our coaches to keep with him while he was still ineligble(SP?).
I still think, as a NY Giants fan, the most important part of a team other than QB is the D-Line. So I hope Coach Chow has enough talent on the D-line to move Dejon over to the O-line. (Though, our O-line needs a lot of help with Kapua Sai's retirement and Blake Muir's defection)

So, my thoughts on this "interview". Clearly, this whole proceeding was orchestrated by an attorney and/or media spin doctor. Absolutely no question about that. Manti was put up to provide his version of the incident because he had to. Everyone, even ND, was calling for Manti to speak. The silence was deafening so Manti had to break the silence.
But the interview itself, based upon the excerpts that have been made available, was not an interview so much as a prepared statement with Schaap serving as a paid stage prop.
If your client is telling the truth and you have confidence that your client will stick to the truth without embellishment, then put your client out there and let him have his say. What is there to be afraid of?
It is only when you want to sell a story rather than tell the truth or you do not trust your client's ability to relay the message that you try to control the environment, screen questions to avoid surprise, limit the number of questioners, and prohibit video so that people cannot gauge the witness's demeanor for themselves.
So, in my opinion, that "interview" was nothing but a dog and pony show. The fact that Manti's spin doctors felt such an exercise was even necessary makes me all the more skeptical about Manti's involvement.
As far as the SUBSTANCE of Manti's statements? I find this column far more convincing than Schaap.

I was just reading an article online about San Diego St. coming back into the MWC and it mentioned probable 6-team divisions called either the East West or Mountain Pacific. I would guess the Pacific division would look something like this:
Hawaii
San Diego State
Fresno State
San Jose State
Nevada
UNLV
I suppose we'd play those five teams plus three out of the Mountain division every year and round out the 13-game schedule with five out of conference games. Or would we only be allowed to play 12 to account for the MWC championship? Guess we'll find out in a couple months!

Just got done reading Manti's testimony and admit it was convincing. However, based on the comments by some folks on various websites that reported the story, its seems there are still a good number of skeptics. Not surprising when you consider the Lance Armstrong saga that was covered by the media prior to the Manti revelation.

ST, I liked your patience in waiting for the facts to come out on the Manti story.
Deadspin rushed to get their story out without speaking to Manti or the hoaxer?
I think that Schaap did a thorough job in his interview and did it in a setting that allowed Manti to be open.
Sad that too many made bad assumptions and cannot be apologetic. The hoaxer apparently apologized and Manti showed his class in not being vindictive.
Wishing for Manti to have a great NFL career.

For those of you that are in such denial that these identity misconceptions can lure people in or are having a hard time understanding that people are actually pretty good at faking it, I suggest you watch the Catfish movie. Yes there is a tv show too, but the movie shows how the initial victim, Nev, investigates and figures the whole thing out.
The people that do these things go to strange, detailed lengths to stretch these lies. They often involve other people, even without them knowing.
Yes, there are more details that need to emerge about Te'o's story to answer questions.

Aloha and good morning, everyboty.
Whoooo hooo, three-day weekend!
Heh, thanks for that Vegas sportsbook info' . . . the bottom line ain't even convinced.
Another thing we should all be conviinced of -- he wasn't as focused as was made out to be. For sure didn't "keep it in his pants" online or telephone. With so much going on with football, he could've easily refused.
He's this star athlete. 100% what a Grease is convinced of? He almost certainly needed to understand the presence of distraction. And he let himself get distracted (you lose a certain amount of individual and personal control following the decision to get into a relationship.
And he paid big time for this distraction, this distraction that he cannot deny. Lost the Heisman -- he's gonna look at that perfect trophy case and he'll only end up seeing that big hole where a certain trophy that would've galvanized his successes should be. Lost the national championship.
So this is undeniable: he was distracted; and he helped himself distracted. And he paid big in terms of what should've been his crowning moment in his college career.
Manziel could apparently handle. And HIS very real GF . . . look better than the "Kekua" pic', at least.
