Kahuku's Wily chooses UH
By Stephen Tsai
Kahuku running back Aofaga Wily told the Warrior he will accept a football scholarship from the Warriors.
"I'm going to sign with UH on Wednesday," Wily said.
Wily received offers from BYU, Arizona and Washington.
But he said he wanted to play in front of family and friends at UH.
"I like the coaches and the program there," Wily said.
Wily's 4,205 career rushing yards is second most in Hawaii high school football history.
He is a three-time All-State player, and was named the 2012 Offensive Player of the Year.

Recruiting season ends today, with the dead period activating through Wednesday's signing day.
But according to several people in the know, we now know this:
• Of all Oahu's stops — beaches, clubs, fancy restaurants — the most popular for recruits is Dave & Buster's.
• The hosts with the most are Kamalani Alo, TJ Taimatuia, Taylor Graham and the self-styled Mr. Honolulu — Ne'Quan Phillips. If Hawaii Five-0 needs a new Danno, book 'em.
* * * * *
I always thought Charlie Wade was a very good motivator. Last night, he proved he's a very good strategist.
His decision to move Johann Timmer to middle in the fifth set was innovative (it put the top four servers in a row) and gutsy. Imagine a football coach changing offenses in overtime. But it worked, and the volleyball Warriors beat the nation's third-best team.
The Warriors had their largest crowd of the season last night. The total paled to what they used to draw. But the crowd was loud, the mood festive and this is a fun team to watch.

Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing

Way to go UH athletes.
Good luck to all recruits.

Thanks for the interesting recruiting insights, Mr. Tsai. Dave and Buster's eh? Pricey recruting . . . those video game plays can go up, up, up. Wondering if some of 'em are using the op' to gain more tickets for prizes
.
Generally, think Warrior recruiting is more covert/VC-ish than for other schools -- you never know their motives, if they're coming here just to, you know, come to Hawai'i; chances are they already visited states whose schools are recruiting them.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:44 am
Ahhh, D&B's. I had a very brief, yet pleasant conversation with then DC Dave Aranda in the elevator one evening a few years back when there just so happened to be some recruits in town.
GO NINERS!!!!!!

Exactly what a Grease was also suggesting in # 11, above, Bugaz.
Thanks for waking up early on Super Bowl Sunday, Bugaz!!!
Watching some of these pre-Super Bowl game show on CBS right now. So funny, some of these announcers from the 1970s, "the New York Jets are Super Bowl Champions of the football world." Heh. Like Westworld or something.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:59 am
Good Morning Gangeez!

One of the recruits supposedly was bitten by a spider before leaving for Hawaii. (No, his name is not Peter Parker.)
He had an adverse reaction to the antibiotics and spent most of the trip very ill.

Ahahahahahahah, laughing, laughing here, Mr. Tsai, the "Peter Parker" bit. Say, check out the book "Marvel Comics: The Untold Story"; as a denizen in the publishing, you might find the account (hardcover 432 pages, 'bout 19 pages of footnotes, additional) quite interesting. Ain't all Stan Lee-centric the creation of Marvel Comics was and is. Goes through the cinematization of Marvel Comics as well. Well-researched, ISBN # 978-0-06-199210-0.

GO RAVENS!!!!!!

Is no news good news or bad news in regards to recruiting. We've had two huge weekends with recruits in town and there hasn't been much said. I was hoping for some early commits before NLI. I guess the drama builds.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:21 am
ST, hope that doesn't affect his choice.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:21 am
C'mon, Liz. The best part is the commercials.
Oh, and Beyonce lip-syncing at halftime.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:22 am

Nope. He already committed.
Maybe the trick is to get him hospitalized until Wednesday. Of course, he might catch on and say: "Hey, this hospital release looks just like a letter of intent . . . "

February 3rd, 2013 at 8:39 am
DPK,
Hey! Once you feed it, it will keep coming back.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:43 am
Not unless you feed it something that will . . . nevermind.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:44 am
Kevin, not even the commercials? Or just the commercials?
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:46 am
Kev-1,
You mean poison. Poison to KILL it. (Just say it)
And the commercials have been lacking.. Seriously lacking as of late.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:47 am
Ah, next time, DPK. Not on the #s this morning too much, preparin' mah steaks f'the big game. Still get # 100 to look forward to, if not #75. Appreciate the thought, though. Hey, a Grease is basically satisfied for life with his ichiban on the very first Tsai post entry of this year. All else is cheddar
.
Ohayooooooogozaimasu, Bowwar!!!! Thanks for waking up early.
Let's do another:
GO RAVENS!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:48 am
Well. At least the Superbowl crowns a REAL champion after following a logical playoff process like all normal sports leagues.
That much I can say.
This aint no Trust Fund Distribution game.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:50 am
DPK:
What I remember most about New Orleans was drinking Hurricanes.
OK, that's pretty much the only thing I remember. I don't remember a lot about that trip, including some of those charges on the credit card.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:51 am
Trust Fund Distribution.
I like that.
But, OK, enough about the Stanford volleyball team . . .
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:52 am
Yes. Kinda like feeding uncooked rice to a bird.
And, yes. The ads aren't what they used to be, but still carry a bit of anticipation.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:53 am
ST, I wonder if some of the players have similar memories. Yikes! I don't really think that, but I know some do.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:57 am
BCS National Trust Distribution Game.
I called it that when talking about the "title" game years ago and why I refuse to watch it and it got a good laugh.
Was explaining the BCS system va a playoff system to a friend of mine and she had no idea that is how college piks their champ.
She was shocked and laughed about it as anyone with common sense should be but I think the majority of college fans have been brainwashed by the hype and hype to even think clearly.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:00 am
morning
and yes it sunny here in da 808
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:00 am
is it super bowl sunday by golly it is goooooo ninersssssssssssss
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:00 am
Mens volleyball replay at 4pm HST!!!
Also, the USHERS are up to it again... They confiscated beachballs in the student section.
And Mr. Hackbarth still steals the show and stray volleyballs... :lol Someone needs to pick up his "torch" he cant do this forever! But then again if ushers are busy pressing their thumb on the student section, I dont blame the kids for being "nervous" about really getting into the action.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:01 am
shout out to all those in the tsaiko ward, reminder parte hard but be safe
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:02 am
Gotta be patient and start praying. No sure if it's a good or bad sign. It's all in the hands of the prospects right now, since it's the dead period. I think the coaches can make phone calls. I guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens. Interesting in today's top prospects that all defensive backs were from Kahuku. I wasn't that high on Goeas and Correa, maybe their pedigree helped. I didn't think they had great high school careers, but maybe some other people saw them more. But, good luck to them in the future. One I liked is Tyler Taumua. Also, that David Fangupo is a load. I would sign him up right now. He is a very interesting recruit. For a big guy, he's pretty fast. But, I think his best position is defensive tackle or nose tackle. Maybe short yardage back too.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:02 am
congrats to warriors and wahine for making yesterday a winnnaaaaaaaaaa
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:03 am
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:03 am
How dare the students try to have fun and act like college students at a college athletic event.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:05 am
Here is a human or better said animal interest story of Colin Kaepernick and his pet turtle. When he was a young boy, he got the turtle which weighed just a few ounces. Now it weighs 115 pounds! His parents takes care of his pet until Colin can purchase his own house. I'm pretty sure he can afford to get his own pad. It just needs to have a secure yard.

'Nother? Yeah, 'nother:
GO RAVENS!!!!
GO MAKE THAT FINE DECISION, POTENTIAL WARRIORS!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:07 am
Kev-1,
Yous should see the faux-macho display of "power" when the usher grabs the beachball and lets the air out by tearing it or poking a hole in it on the spot in front of the kids.
Like a bully with NO BALLS taking some kid's sandwich and smashing it as if to say if I cant have it, neither will you.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:09 am
I am sure curious as to what UH recruiting plan is. We were in Utah this past week and OFa Hautau ends up tripping Utah St and its down to Utah St and Oklahoma St for him.
We also lost out on Titus Failauga and we had Fred Melifonwu wrapped up if we wanted him. Ready to commit and visit.
I can't say the other options are better than those 2 but I am definitely curious to see what we have coming.
Even though he played fullback, David Fangupo would be a big time sleeper DT I think.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:10 am
This is the best call of all I this hea recruiting process. Right on, Derek -- good words and good call as usual.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:15 am
#73,
Someone should convince a really large human being to walk up to an usher after popping a beach ball and say "eh brah, das my ball you just popped. How bout I pop you?"
The usher would need to work the rest of the night with a squirt in his pants.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:17 am
Heh. jeezy33, ohayoooogozaimasu, thanks for waking up early.
OK, for sure that was the last "thanks for waking up early" today, Super Bowl Sunday, ehy, almos' 10ams alreadies!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:19 am
Former Warrior Jared Lofy is there all the time and he's big of course but i think the students are just like "here take it an leave us alone already.."
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:20 am
Heh. Just like that . . . a Grease gets # 75. There we go, DPK.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:23 am
Suggestion: Take photographs of "ushers" and post them.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:24 am
We better have something up our sleeves cause were dropping quality prospects and they're committing to rival MWC schools. This could backfire big time.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:25 am
"BCS National Trust Distribution Game." Perfect!
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:29 am
Have a great Super Bowl gang! Time fo' GRIND!

Good morning Tsaikos!
Kevin - Alan Hackbarth was especially funny last night. He brings something special to the festivities.
I'm gonna start going withdrawal now that there isn't another home game for a month! At least there's basketball and softball to keep me occupied.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:41 am
JM,
That "thing" Hackbarth did last night after his routine... NO ONE else would get away with that.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:41 am

Kaepernick's 2012 salary is $1,164,610 (Alex Smith $9,500,000). And I believe he signed a 4 yr deal. kinda doubt the 49ers will offer a new contract this off season.
It's always the 2nd contract where NFL players make it rich. The way Kaep is going, he may be making 8 figures in a couple of years.
49ers starting defense is all signed through 2014 except for Isaac Sopoaga ($4,955,000) who is a free agent after this season. Isaac on 2/26/2008 Signed a five-year, $20 million contract. The deal included a $4.775 signing bonus. An annual $150,000 roster bonus and $50,000 workout bonus is available.
check out Kaep's real gf:

Congratulations, gobows on your # 100.
Grease happy, so yappari with some notable odds numbers (good luck) today . . . # 75 and now # 101 . . . gonna do well to help accord a fine RAVENS VICTORY TODAY!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:05 am
Haleakala, that's a very interesting piece about Kaepernick's pet turtle. Great minds think alike. My golden retriever's name is also Sammy!!!!!
I like the Ravens and the 49ers. I like the Harbaugh Brothers. What's not to like! I like Ray Rice, I like Ray Lewis, I like Haloti Ngata, etc. etc. I like Michael Crabtree, I like Patrick Willis, I like Kaeperick, etc. etc. HOWEVER, I have been a loyal San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants fan since the late 50s. It's been a long time coming because the 49ers didn't win the Super Bowl since 1981 and the SF Giants didn't win the world series until 2010. I hoping it's a Bay Area season. The Giants, the 49ers, the Stanford Cardinals, the Oakland A's, the San Jose St. Spartans, the Golden State Warriors. Only the California Bears sucked lately. In my mind, the 49ers will pull it out. Nobody has run the pistol to perfection like Colin Kaepernick. But, the 49ers defense will make the big plays.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
Derek, you meant didn't win the Super Bowl until 1981. I remember those back to back 2-14 years...then came Bill Walsh and the rest is history.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
Derek:
San Fran never won the Super Bowl until 1981 but they won 4 more after that over a 13 year period. It's been almost 2 decades since the last SB win in 1994, since about time they get another one.
Kaepernick's turtle reminds me of my own situation with a pet. His parents takes of it, and My wife and I are taking care of my daughter's 80 pound labradoodle. Oh boy!
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:32 am
oh me darlin, oh me darlin, oh me darlin Clemintine
go and beat the nasty Ravens, oh me darlin Clemintine
GO 49ERS GO 49ERS GO 49ERS GO 49ERS GO 49ERS GO 49ERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:34 am
105, yeah! I'm getting old, getting senior discounts when I can, go to Vegas as many times before I go, and hopefully I can make it another 20 years or so. Some things I'd like to see happen.
1) Another undefeated season for the UH football team, and a BCS bowl game, and win it.
2) See Tiger Woods win 6 more majors to hit to 20.
3) See the UH basketball team (men) make it to the Big Dance and win at least 1 or 2 games.
4) See the UH Wahine Softball team win the Women's College World Series.
5) See the UH baseball team make it back to the College World Series and win it.
6) See Shoji finally win a 5th NCAA championship.
7) See the USA men's soccer team win the World Cup.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:40 am
49ers win a Championship? Nevermore, nevermore.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:44 am
So why all the hate for Sheriff ushers? They're just doing their jobs.
When UH gets sued because some little kid falls and bashes his head in after getting hit, I bet you'll be the ones saying, "Fricking ushers didn't do anything to get those balls out of there."
Being a rebel tough guy is all cool and stuff, but a rebel without insight is just another thug.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:52 am
Am reminded of lines from Yeats:
The best lack all conviction,
While the worst are full
of passionate intensity.
Never truly understood those lines in school, but have been repeatedly amazed by their profundity since then. Shout out to Mr. Keables.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
So anyway I'm a Raider fan -- sob -- so I don't really care about today's game, but cheering for the Ice Man to get a ring.
Can't think of anyone who has done more to rep UH than he has.
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
tic tac toe
February 3rd, 2013 at 10:56 am
Hear, hear, WarriorMojo . . . your narrative, sound as usual.
If that ball would've found itself bounced toward the actual court and interrupted a game winning shot, say, by a Rainbow Wahine, THAT would've ended up as being a problem, right? Sure, the ref' could've allowed a do-over, but, if the do-over missed . . . tables'd be turned by some of these "anti-usher" advocates and they'd be saying"the ushers shoulda' been done something about that ball!"

is the Ice Man Isaac Sopoaga?
February 3rd, 2013 at 11:07 am
Nice, niiiiice, iwonderwhy' . . . a learned man, you are, earning a learned man wage -- and well-deserved at that -- a Grease knows this.
GO RAVENS!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 11:09 am
Warrior Mojo: I understand your pov, but if you want students to come, you have to make it fun for them to come. If the beach balls are a danger, then they gotta think of something else to make it fun. Manoa Maniacs have a Facebook page. How about getting a sponsor to award a prize (gotta be a good one) to one of the students who posts their picture on the page of them at the game? When my daughter went to the AAU volleyball tournament in Orlando, the opening ceremony was in the Disney Wide World of Sports stadium. The ushers were the ones who were tossing the beach balls in to the stands from the upper level of the stadium down on the volleyball teams below, while a live rock band was playing. It was wild and fun, and the girls had a great time.

#108...
Nice list! I gotta add Seahawks winning a Super Bowl...
February 3rd, 2013 at 11:44 am
Dave N Busters is the top recruiting hangout... On my recruiting trip to UH, my coach took me to Rainbow Drive-in and got me tickets to Warrior Volleyball. Both were awesome and I was hooked. Getting to see Clay Stanley absolutely annihilate the ball was something to behold, considering there's no men's volleyball where I'm from.
I think coaches can get a good gauge on a recruits interest if they take him to a locals diner (ie Rainbow's or Ono's) and see how he likes the food. If a recruit doesn't like a Rainbow's mix plate or Ono's lau lau, then UH may not be the best fit for him.
February 3rd, 2013 at 12:05 pm
Raven's. They just need to put someone in Kaepernick's face and for him to go wide and backwards. If they let him turn upfield then the Ravens will be in deep kimchee. Of course this happens after they stop the run. I think this defense can do it. I am just hoping for a good game.

for = force
February 3rd, 2013 at 12:09 pm
Don't know if UH was still in play but....S Jalen Battle (University School of Nova S - Fort Lauderdale, FL).....who tripped UH on 1/11/13 weekend.....committed today to Illinois State.

#74,
With this weekend's trip to UH cancelled, took a trip instead to hometown SDSU this weekend and ended up committing today.

125. I am still pissed about it. We had that commitment in the bag....
February 3rd, 2013 at 12:35 pm
When regional scouts see Fred as a NFL guy in 4 years if he puts on the needed strength, he must be pretty damn good to just pass up on.
February 3rd, 2013 at 12:36 pm
Wondering what the reason is for canceling Ofa Hautau visit. I know no DT on our radar is better than him..
February 3rd, 2013 at 12:40 pm
Good to see some local kids mentioned among the Top 100 West prospects listed here.....but even better to see a UH commit (KT).....and possibly a 2nd one (AF)....listed too.

Here we go.
SF look in tropuble 'ready. Where's Kaepernick runnings!?! Nevada; you love.
February 3rd, 2013 at 12:57 pm
Unfortunately, we cannot get 'em all. With a 3 - 9 season, I'm kinda surprised with the guys we got, and the guys we were in the mix for. If I were a prized recruit, the record, facilities and small crowd would be turn offs. Of course, the beach, girls and weather would be plusses.
Enjoy THE game!
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:03 pm
There you go. Just like that.
Would rather have, "No one gave us a chance" (Ray Lewis, # 52) instead of "who got it better than us" mmph.
Just like that.
Better uniform.
Better city.
Better team.
Ravens.
Ai!!! My steaks!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:07 pm
The Pro Style offense with a semi mobile QB looked like it works to me? Spread out 4-5 wides to 2 tight ends sets by Baltimore. Hawaii Warriors Pro Style offense can work with better O Line play. Getting a little feisty in the Superbowl.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:16 pm
SF . . . enjoys their FG.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:22 pm
I'm no longer positive the spot you are obtaining your info, nonetheless fantastic subject. I ought to spend some time learning a lot more or working out much more. Thank you for wonderful information I was in search of this information for my mission.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:30 pm
Holy . . . heh, getting MMA-like out there.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:32 pm
Kapernick does have a big arm! And the TE Vernan Davis is a Beast!
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:33 pm
SF can't do it. They gotta hurt themselves to get a smidgen in this game.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:49 pm
SF IS SELF-DESTRUCTING.
Baltimore can end up shooting themselves in the foot with all this extracurricular, though.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:51 pm
Who turns it over better than us......hehe
Cowboy Fan, Out
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:52 pm
What's up with the recruiting? Seems like recruits are being passed up on or bypassing Hawaii. Not good. We did snatch a few good ones, but seemed like we overlooked a few more good ones. Hawaii need get what they can get. Not in a position to be picky.
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:57 pm
Wassup all, thanks to all those for the bday wishes yesterday...
I hope you all are enjoying the game! And all the great commercials and movie previews... Is it just me or do Fast and Furius 6 and Star Trek look awesome... Wow, I can't believe I just said that...
February 3rd, 2013 at 1:57 pm
Ravens fake fail, mon, but SF take over on 6 yard line, not so irie, seen?
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:00 pm
Yeah, WarriorNY . . . judging by Abram's portayal of Trek's SF in that commercial alone, think he can do a great Coruscant when he ends up doing the next Star Wars film(s).
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:06 pm
Mr. Grease,
I can't wait for the new Star Wars... Abrams is a master at sci-fi... I'm glad Lucas is passing the torch to Abrahms...
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:08 pm
Taco Bell commercial best so far.
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:08 pm
Oh. This is just excellent.
RAVENS!!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:13 pm
Think your spelling of Abrams is more correct than mine. Agree, agree with you, Mr. WarriorNY . . . hope you're having a great B-day weekend!
Yeah, that one was pretty funny.
A Grease likes the VW-Jamaican ad the best, glad I actually saw it.
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:20 pm
Sorry for my bad spelling
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:25 pm
Where are the funny beer commercials?
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:25 pm
No, no, your spelling of "Abrahms" is correct is what a Grease is saying, WarriorNY.
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:29 pm

February 3rd, 2013 at 2:31 pm
No you are correct Mr Grease... I made the typo...
Wow, Beyonce seems to be going out of her way to prove she's not lipsyncing...
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:45 pm
Heh, mctruck, too funny.
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:51 pm
Think "Ravens" can mean "aloha means 109 yard run" yeah?
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:53 pm
O-O-O-O-O-Ooooooooooh
February 3rd, 2013 at 2:58 pm
Who turned out the lights? Does that mean it is over?
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:02 pm
Either:
• Superdome don't pay their 'lectric bill.
• Beyoncé's li'l show used up all the power there.
Show the Trek and Iron Man 3 ads again, CBS.
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:06 pm
OR JACOBY JONES' LONGEST SUPER BOWL RUNBACK EVER delay-busted those lights out.
Uh. Does it matter way all ya'll 49er's been playing today?
Bush league, bush league. Don't hold anuthing in New Orleans already. Stupid town.
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:09 pm
Hey all,
Well enjoy the rest of the game... I'm out for now... enjoy and take care everyone...
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:09 pm
Power surge? Damn Beyonce.
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:15 pm
The Power Outage is some Stevie Wonder New Orleans Voodoo stuff!! LOL.
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:18 pm
Indeed, rezone.
Delays matter, yes? Musashi vs. Kojiro.
Ya'll see Raven's road uniform? Warriors' road uniform can look JUST like that. Black trousers. Mayber light silver jersey. Ben Jay?
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:21 pm
Heh, too funny What's up. Combination of Wonder's acting voodoo on that commercial and New O'leans actual voodoo.
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:23 pm
Ooooh!!!! John Harbaugh is LIVID to whoever the old guy in the grey suit coach talking to!
February 3rd, 2013 at 3:52 pm
The Stevie Wonder Lights Out Voodoo just might be for real!!! SF is making a come back!
February 3rd, 2013 at 4:56 pm
WHO GOT IT BETTER THAN RAVENS!?!?!
BLACK IS RAVENS' COLOR . . . "BLACK" AS IN "BLACKOUT"!!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:02 pm
PHIL SIMMS IS BIASED. Maybe he wish Kapernick was his roommate.
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:05 pm
BLACKOUT!?!? BLACK is RAVENS' COLOR!!!!!
WON IT FOR ART!!!!!!
WON IT FOR RAY LEWIS # 52!!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:06 pm
Great Game!! Congrats Baltimore and Ray Lewis!
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:09 pm
Congratz to the Birdies!
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:20 pm
OJ Brigance. God bless. He wins this, too.
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:22 pm
JMHO but 49ers shoulda kept pounding the rock once inside the 10 on that last series......with Ngata out.....and Ravens front 7 gassed.
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:27 pm
Kahuku's Aofaga Wily picks the Warriors.
He says he'll sign on Wednesday.
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:28 pm
Welcome Wily to the Warrior Ohana!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:28 pm
49ers got every chance, including a possible hack into the Superdome electrical system; no excuses!!!!!!! Ravens had so much cr#p against them this season -- down to the announcers on this very Superbowl 37 newscast being clearly FOR the 49ers and University of Nevada -- NO EXCUSES!!!!
"When God is for ya, who can be against ya?" - Ray Lewis, Superbowl XXXVII champion, The Baltimore Ravens at the Vince Lombardi trophy presentation.

More great news!!!
WELCOME WARRIOR Aofaga Wily!!!!!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:39 pm
Welcome Aofaga Wily, wiil he be going on a mission this year also?
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:42 pm
Huge commit. Welcome Aofaga Wily. This is better than the Ravens winning.
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:48 pm
Chee Wily, St.Juste, and Lakalaka gonna be nuts.
February 3rd, 2013 at 5:53 pm
Good job WARRIORS helping out with the March of Dimes yesterday!
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:02 pm
#182.... I second your comment Chow has a very impressive stable of RBs. I'm very curious is see how Lakalaka turns out from last year's recruiting class and how Saint Juste develops. UH has some serious thunder and lightning in the RB corp.
I hope Iosefa has been working on ball security this offseason. He's a bulldozer but has been fumble prone. If he improves on that, that would be a huge plus.
I can guarantee 2013 will look vastly different than 2012. May take 2 years to develop the incoming recruits but the size and physicality of this year's newcomers is much better than years past.
Chow's first full recruiting class may be more impressive (on paper and highlight video) than any of JJ's recruiting classes. It's at least as good as the 2005 class (S. Elimimian, J. Estes, D. Bess, C. Brennan, Fonoti, A. Kia, A. Leonard, Letuli, B. Setele, B. Soares, & I. Funaki).
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:02 pm
Aofaga has such a smooth running style, really glides across the field with deceptive speed and power. Thats a pretty nice stable with Lakalaka, and St. Juste for the next few years.
Also, some of you need to stop being bandwagon fans. Never hardly hear anything about some of you liking the Ravens and now all over your facebooks and twitters you on the Ravens nut sacks. Please get a grip already just like how bandwagon on UH when they winning and jump off when they losing, lose money.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:05 pm
Iosefa should be FB honestly. He lays some wood on blocks when they lined him up with Gregory in the backfield this past year. IF he has any future in the NFL, its FB.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:08 pm
Aofaga Wily -- welcome to the Warriors! Great choice!
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:09 pm
49ers would have scored if they ran the QB read option instead of throwing. Bad play calling I thought.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:11 pm
I guess Manoa#1 sources were incorrect when he said Wily chose BYU after Autuaia visited home.
Anyway, welcome Aofaga Wily.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:13 pm
188. Horrible!! no Haloti Ngata, definitely should have ran more read options... Roll out was terrible on 2nd down. Then 3rd down was a good call until they burned a TO and ran out to Crabtree.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:14 pm
Welcome Aofaga Wily!
The moral of the story - listen to ST!
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:21 pm
You don't know a Grease, PB, so, hope you not talking about a Grease.
I don't have to screamy mimi on other boards to identify myself as a Ravens fan and I mentioned Ravens on a few posts before today -- YOU go look for 'em.
I and those I care about know my Ravens fandom and that -- along with the Ravens winning the Super Bowl today -- is all that counts.

February 3rd, 2013 at 6:23 pm
Wow what great news about Wily. You will not regret being a warrior. The people of Hawaii will have your back for years to come. Congratulations.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:25 pm
And the only mistake a Grease has made today is saying "Superbowl 37" . . . s/b Super Bowl XLVII. Oops as in "oops the Superdome electrician."
A Grease's night is done
.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:31 pm
I wasn't talking about you Grease my man, no need to jump the gun I'm talking about some of the regulars here who cheer for teams like Green Bay, Redskins, Rams, Vikings, etc... throughout the whole season and now all of a sudden they Ravens fans... it's just funny to see all over facebook and twitter how fake they are...
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:39 pm

Its the super bowl. Everyone picks a team even if it isn't their personal one.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:42 pm
Iosefa needs to trim down to 220 or settle for being a FB. Dude has no wiggle at his current weight.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:45 pm
Stoked my favorite player Ed Reed finally got his ring though.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:45 pm
Wow we got Wily
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:45 pm
And...
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:46 pm
200
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:49 pm
Ah well....now that Ray is gone maybe God will start lovin' the Ninahz, too.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:52 pm
Good for Coach Chow and his staff to be able to recruit players from Kahuku. Welcome to Wily. I've always been a 49er fan since I was a kid many many many moons ago listening to the 49ers on the radio. This is when John Brodie was the quarterback so no bandwagon fan here lol. Congratulations to the Ravens...good game today.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:54 pm
Happy to hear about Wily. Not so happy about the Super Bowl. Questionable officiating and suspect play calling. The read option got the Niners to the Super Bowl, but they decided to play with Kap the passer today. The Ravens were stout up front early, but seemed like the Niners gave up on their style of play too early. By the time they came back, too late already.
Give it up to the Ravens. They came out and handled their business. Better team won today.
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:58 pm

Welcome Mr. Wily! Kudos and a great job by Coach Chow and his staff! The pieces are starting to be assembled for 2013. Hopefully, UH can improve and get at least a 6-7 win season, which is doable. Hopefully, along the way, they can lure back the casual UH Football fans.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:00 pm
#205 . . . As proud as I am to be an American, I admit that tugged at the heart strings a bit. But best commercial today has to go to Doritos.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:01 pm
What's the latest on Wily and his mission?
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:01 pm
I hope Wily and other recruits have a change of heart on Wednesday. Welcome Warriors!!!

No mission.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:09 pm
Any confirmation on DE/OLB Pita Taumoepenu?
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:10 pm
The only thing that would make this a better class is if UH signs Leon Sandcastle.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:10 pm
OK, Pauoa Boy, I see, thanks for clarifying. A Grease only said "I hope" anyways. Heh, didn't mean to accord any rough edges if it came off like that.
A Grease like your posts; get a lot of insight and see a lot of great football I.Q. Wish you would post more often.

February 3rd, 2013 at 7:22 pm
Hardest hitting TV ad today . . . the Paul Harvey narrated truck ad . . . "and God made a farmer." Harvey's voice just appearing in the ad, just me minus Grease skin. Put that one in the league with the post-9/11 clydesdales galloping many miles, then bowing in front of New York City.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:22 pm
Leon Sandcastle would be sick!!
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:25 pm
Le-on, Le-on, Le-on!
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:29 pm
Welcome to the Warriors Aofaga Wily! Now, if we could just get Leon Sandcastle!
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:31 pm
Nah, Leon Sandcastle is past his prime time.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:34 pm
218: he kind of reminds me of primetime Sanders
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:35 pm
Grease I don't post often anymore cause most of the talk isn't worth my time to get in to. Too many things talked about not worth discussing unless it's football related. Still there are some here that just get kind of irritating after awhile so I don't waste my time. I rather chill and read and when I feel like saying something, then I do.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:54 pm
#210, S/B "don't". I was so excited we got Wily I typed too fast. Sorry Al and others.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:58 pm
Wily and Lakalaka.......Pretty good 1-2 punch (no particular order) Nothing like playing for family, friends, and the State.
February 3rd, 2013 at 7:59 pm
Amen to that 3-prong.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:04 pm
Warrior Dave: If A Punahou or Moanalua Linebacker were to miraculously change their mind and stay home, I'd add a "Hallelujah" to that....hehe
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:12 pm
It is amazing that UH has in the last two years has gotten throw State's top two offensive players to play for their family, friends and our State.
This year, we got KT, one of the best defensive players to do the same.
If as fans you're not proud of what the coaches are trying to build, well. Glad you're choosing to stay and play as Warriors.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:24 pm
KT is deserving of a "Hallelujah". Dat bugga get one motor and a half!
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:33 pm
#235,
What Moanalua linebacker?
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:37 pm
#235,
If thinking SP, he's strictly a DT.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:38 pm
Sorry Kapakahi, thought the Pagano boy played linebacker not DT. Guess my thinking was "Kapakahi".
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:44 pm
#241,
UH was really never in the picture on that one.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:49 pm
A big welcome to Mr. Wily. It's a terrific class. I have to catch a Hawaiian jet and at least attend a couple of games this year.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:51 pm
If they haven't already, the UH coaches might wanna start keeping track of Faga's younger bro FB Sala '15 next football season
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:05 pm
Every mistake the Niners made came back to haunt them. Penalties, clock management and turnovers.
The Ravens were the better team today. John was the better coach.
Don't know why tomorrow is not a holiday. The best food of the year seems to be served up on Super Bowl Sunday. Will need Monday to recover from the gluttony.
Kennedy and "Faga" are statement recruits. Chow and Co. will battle to defend their home turf.
February 3rd, 2013 at 9:14 pm
I always wonder when someone says a recruit is going to a certain school before the recruit himself says it. How can anyone know unless he lives in the same house as the young man. I can't believe these so called experts.

32 teams, 2 teams play, 30 teams out. all things being equal 94% of fans will need to cheer for a different team other then their favorite come super bowl...what would you suggest 94% of fans of the sport do pauoa boy?
February 4th, 2013 at 12:50 am
You actually make it appear really easy together with your presentation but I in finding this matter to be actually something that I feel I'd by no means understand. It seems too complex and extremely large for me. I'm looking ahead for your next submit, I will attempt to get the cling of it!
February 4th, 2013 at 12:50 am
sometimes the obvious thing is to second guess the coaching staff as to why a recruit was or wasn't recruited to the end. that is akin to monday morning quarterbacking.
i've learned over the past decades that there is always a back story that is or isn't told. more often than not, the truth is never told.
ah, we can sit here and pull our hairs out until we become prematurely bald or no less than left with a receding hairline while we agonize why so and so wasn't offered and the like. perhaps, maybe, it is academics, lack of character or improper attitude, or perhaps well under the 2" rule, an unfavorable background check, or something that just didn't make it work. sometimes, it is the recruit who backs out of the process or parental interference is all too prevalent. sometimes, perhaps the number of scholies ran out and maybe your favorite was just a conditional offeree and because someone the coach offerred a solid took the offer. maybe, a more pressing imminent need arised as of late where now you had to go after someone who played in the more coveted position.
ah, the list goes on and on. quite often the coach will not reveal the backstory to the general public because it may be unethical or defaming of character to a potential recruit. be that as it may perhaps it is best in the interest of all to just say...

What's the status for Troy McCollum, Pita Taumoepenu, and Simeon Thomas? I hope Hawaii are able to sweep all 3 of them on Wednesday!

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I feel that you can do with some percent to pressure the message home a little bit, however instead of that, that is magnificent blog. A fantastic read. I'll definitely be back.

So glad Coach got that foot path repaired between the North Shore and Manoa.
Welcome to new Warrior Wily!
Whoo-hoo!!!

Fantastic points altogether, you simply received a new reader. What may you recommend about your post that you simply made some days ago? Any positive?

Former UH Athlete:
February 3rd, 2013 at 6:02 pm
"...the size and physicality of this year's newcomers is much better than years past.
Chow's first full recruiting class may be more impressive (on paper and highlight video) than any of JJ's recruiting classes. It's at least as good as the 2005 class (S. Elimimian, J. Estes, D. Bess, C. Brennan, Fonoti, A. Kia, A. Leonard, Letuli, B. Setele, B. Soares, & I. Funaki)."
the UH has never had a recruiting class of this magnitude at the skill positions. other than Leonard Peters I can't remember a skill position player with size AND speed.
if this class of commits sign, this will be the greatest class on paper...nobody on that '05 group ran a 4.5 40 and this '13 class has several. but like you said, it all comes down to how they develop and adjust to the next level. this class is promising...

Terrible pass defense, turnovers, poor officiating and questionable play calling pretty much sums up every loss. Whats funny is that it happens even when you win, but no one talks about it.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda...
Anyway, the Niners rally kept it interesting. There's always next year and all Niners should be optimistic.
Congrats to the Ravens. They earned it.

He will if that city can manage to clean up its act -- they're kind of on their way there, having gotten rid of their nude-allowed-in-public ordinance -- but, there's still a lot to be done in that contemporary Sodom and Gomorrah, so to speak.
On the other hand, Ravens FG kicker performed the Trinity/sign of the cross before each kick; Ray Lewis, of course, pronounced his simple, true, "if God is with ya, who can be against ya" coda.
Didn't see any sign of God with the 49ers. All we got is . . . Kaepernick's supposed unilateral greatness; and his turtle.
It's always God's will, who wins, who loses.

I'm reminded of the Kurt Weill opera Johnny Johnson which takes place in World War I - and the Allied troops on one side of the stage singing that God is on their side - and the Germans on the other side of the stage singing "Gott mit us".
