Edwards runs 4.56 or 4.47

February 26th, 2013

Former UH cornerback Mike Edwards' best time in the 40 was either 4.47 seconds or 4.56 seconds at today's NFL Scouting Combine.

The NFL Network listed Edwards' second attempt at 4.47 seconds — a time that NFL teams reported to Edwards.

But several hours later, the network listed Edwards' best time at 4.56 seconds.

Each NFL team keeps its own times for draft-assessment purposes. The "official" times are used for draft analysts.

Edwards' had a slow time in his first attempt. He said he had a quick start, but had "trouble carrying" the pace. He said he felt he was too "mechanical" in his running style. He said he "let loose" in his second attempt. He was initially credited with a 4.47 unofficial time. One of the scouts credited him with running as fast as 4.45 seconds. After a review, his official time was listed at 4.56 seconds.

Edwards' 36-inch vertical jump placed 10th among corners.

The Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons have expressed the most interest in drafting Edwards.

It was interesting that former UH long-snapper Luke Ingram made all of the snaps in a three-hour combine session this past weekend. Then, after a 15-minute break, Ingram lifted 225 pounds 24 times.

"Luke was awesome," punter Alex Dunnachie said.

Defensive back Daniel Lewis of Louisiana apparently has made a verbal commitment to the Warriors. He will be part of the 2014 class.

R.J. Hollis has signed his letter of intent. He's officially a Warrior.
