It's all mime

In the 1966 Batman movie, the caped crusader found a lit bomb. Every place he tried to dispose it, there were people or animals. To which Batman quipped: "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb."

That movie scene was conjured this past week when the Warriors tried to conduct spring practices.

The Warriors were told they could not conduct their 6 a.m. practices under Ching field's lights because of a scheduling conflict.

That meant going to the grass field, where there are no lights, and starting 45 minutes later because of sunrise.

Then they were told they could no longer play music during practices after receiving 11 complaints from sleeping-in neighbors.

They cut out the music, then were told they could not use the horn that signaled the start/end to each practice period.

It has been suggested that, like middle-school p.e. teachers, the coaches use only whistles, preferably not the ear-piercing-stop-that-robber type.

Some days . . .

There were good intentions in trying to honor the seniors of UH's Olympic sports last night. Unfortunately, they had to wait until after the volleyball match on the first night of spring break. The crowd size should not diminish appreciation of their hard work and dedication.

Happy birthday to Mento — David Maeva.

He lives each moment the way he ran hurdles: knocking 'em down one at a time.
