Horseshoe, anyone?

October 9th, 2013

Word on the boulevard is UH is close to finalizing a deal to play Ohio State in the Horseshoe.

It makes sense, of course. AD Ben Jay still remains very well connected with The Ohio State folks.

An announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

It appears Keith Kirkwood has a strong chance to be included on the 64-player travel roster.

Kirkwood was told he suffered concussion-like symptoms during the San Jose State game. That night he received favorable results on the CT scan. On Monday, he passed the so-called baseline test, in which a current test of brain-function skills is measured against one taken before the start of training camp. The final phase to clearance is how Kirkwood responds to conditioning drills for two days. Unless he experiences any problems — he was symptom free yesterday — he's good to go for the trip.

Defensive lineman Niko Uti is the latest example that scout-team work has its rewards.

Because UH coaches review every play of every practice, strong play on scout team does not go unnoticed. Quarterback Ikaika Woolsey, right guard Ben Dew and slotback Samson Anguay are among the players who benefitted from some time on scout team this fall.

Uti is in the rotation at defensive line.
