Away they go
After a delay of more than 10 hours, the Rainbow Warriors departed LAX en route to Utah.
With the 2-hour flight, 1-hour bus ride and 1-hour time change, they are scheduled to arrive at the hotel in Logan at about 2 a.m. Saturday — 12 hours ahead of kickoff for the game against Utah State.
The Warriors were initially scheduled to depart LAX at noon on a charter flight. But the shootings at the airport forced a shutdown.
The Warriors were able to extend their stay at the hotel in Manhattan Beach.
The delay forced the Warriors to cancel the scheduled walk-through session at Utah State's Romney Stadium and abort plans to scout Utah high school football games. Instead, they had meeting and video reviews in the hotel's conference rooms. The defense had a walk-through session in the parking lot.
Because of financial constraints, the Warriors usually divide into two segments the travels for games east of the Pacific time zone. They practice Thursday morning on their campus, then depart that afternoon for Los Angeles, where they stay overnight. The next day, they take a charter flight.
The Warriors could not depart from a nearby airport because their equipment was stored at LAX. The team does not have the resources to pay for two planes — one carrying the passengers, the other carrying the equipment.
