Laramie — We're told the range is between 12 and 32.

That's Fahrenheit, not the age range for video-game users.

The Rainbow Warriors arrive this afternoon, then will have a quick walk-through before heading to Cheyenne for the night.

    First!

  2. haka:

    Let's Go Bows!
    Go Warriors!

  3. jm2375:

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Nice to see you arrived safely, ST.

    Stay warm and hydrated.

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

Welcome to the Warrior Ohana, Mr. Glover!
(Any relation to a former UH QB?)

  4. jm2375:

Guess we're not the only team with stick-in-the-mud fans.

  5. Buffoman:

Wow, that looks really cold. Should be interesting to see how our young men respond to this radically different environment.

    Good luck and have fun.

  6. boolakanaka:

Aloha all...and damn that looks sooo cold. Its not so much the snow, but the wind chill as the game develops. I remembering playing a game in Washington, and it was not nearly as cold, but wet, probably high 30s, and it was so painful to hit, especially if you were just playing on special teams. Good luck boys, stay warm and hit those stationary bikes on the sidelines.

  7. cheepono:

go warriors! let's get that first w.

  8. Bugaz:

    Lucky I live Hawaii

  9. Bugaz:

    Go Warriors!

  10. Jack Flash:

Have fun Warriors! Hopefully the coaches don't screw up another game for you...

  11. Stephen Tsai:

It's interesting that at the hotel where the team will be staying, the special is ice-cream cones for 50 cents each.

  12. Stephen Tsai:

We did pass Curt Gowdy Park on the drive down I-80.
Yes, kids, back in the day, Curt Gowdy was THE voice.

  13. Bigislandkurt:

Laramie weather. I'm very familiar. Duck fat.

    BIK

  14. cocobean:

Joey to the right, Joey to the left, Joey on a draw, Joey on a sweep, Joey on a shovel,Joey in the flat. Get the damn ball to him but not always up the gut.

  15. cocobean:

Fei Jai. Chow had an incentive clause in his contract that he'd make a certain % of any increases in ticket sales. Too bad UH didn't consult with the Chinatown gamblers and insist there be a penalty clause that Chow pay the same % on any decrease in ticket sales.

  16. boolakanaka:

16..coco, good point. And then we could bring back Ronald Ching (now, that was a real old school gangsta) to enforce that portion of the contract.

  17. Not an Expert:

At any big time school that has a coach with a record like Chow, he would be history. At UH it goes to show we are not big time. We all know that money talks and BS walks. Is that why we have so much BS? We need to come to grips that we are a small fish in a pond with many larger fish. We are doing our best with the resources that we have.

UH blew it at the end of 2007. Got blinded at being at the Sugar Bowl partying and having a hangover that made our leaders go down the path we are in now due to their warped minds.

Only fix is to have $30 million come in every year and a CEO who can run the ship that has a formula for long term success who can do the job and not have interference from the so called leaders who likes to micromanage.

  18. NYUHTX:

Its even freezing here in Austin. Well, by HI standards. ST just tweeted that the plane was delayed.

  19. cocobean:

boola. People who met "Ronnie" all said he was a nice guy. Said he'd never hurt anyone unless he was paid to.

  20. boolakanaka:

20...Coco, back in the day, the boys and I, use to always joke about one of us having Ronnie as our "uncle". Well, one night crusing the many side joints of Keeaumoku, and I am not sure where were at, I recall they had late night music, live band, it was a larger place and earlier in the evening, I think they had strippers, but then everyone had dancers back then, and it shut down at 400am

Anywho, we were making a bunch of noise, drinking, check this out; millers with ice and crown neats...thinking we were big shots, and who do we see, at the end of the bar---dats right---Ronnie!!!! Nearly kukai my pants right there, seriously, I had the cold sweats. One of my boys, seeking the protocol you need in this type of situation, apologized for us making all this noise, and offered to buy him a drink. To our surprise he accepted, and we stayed making Waianae small-talk, we found out he use to go to this chicken-fight place, in Waianae Valley, that some of my ohana work at back in the day. (also got me to thinking, as my ohana out there were pig farmers, and a little shady, what else they feeding the pua'a??!)

Long story short, we went to settle up, for all of our drinks, four guys, and about 4-5 rounds, plus 2 rounds for Ronnie, bartender does not even look up, and says " he gottem, you better mahalo da man"--we did, like good little boys do and ran all the way home.

  21. gobows:

#15 i wish they would run some sweeps. and run and throw from under center too.

  22. boolakanaka:

18...Not sure where you are getting your numbers from, but here is a breakdown on what a major program looks like: http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/885/1424547.pdf As you can see that major portions of it are derived from the following: ticket sales, SEC conference, and media rights. shoots, the program is so successful that they actually have a yield on endowment funds that almost total 300K. Again, our audience is so regional targeted, and I would have to really drill down on what our margins and contracts look like, but not sure we could make a similar argument relative to our market. It is curious that the single biggest expenditure for their program is salaries.....I cause you get what you pay for can be axiomatic for college football.

  23. pu'uwai:

You can do it team. The "Paniolo Trophy" will be returned to Hawaii.

    Imua Rainbow Warriors!!!

  24. NorthShoreFan:

allow my fantasy, average 40-43K fans per game at the Rust Bucket. Receive a portion of the parking revenues, concession revenues etc.. Secure major sponsors for each game. Allow them to "set" the program for that game. Execute a major program for our military peeps. Student section, first few rows behind home team, between the 20's.

In a few yeas, the "senior" season ticket holders will be diminishing. Got to get to the younger season ticket holders.
Parking fees for early t-gaters?...small increase?..after all they using the facilities for what?...about 9 hours?...mho

  25. cocobean:

boola. That's a story old timers like me can appreciate.....and BTW to this day I make sure I only consume pork products from the mainland or those made from wild stock.

  26. NorthShoreFan:

Was watching the replay of last night game.
Nevels, blocked a shot, got a hand on the ball and managed to throw it off the shooter. Turn over, ball to the Warriors........all of this while he was chewing gum!?!@#!!
    The kid is a baller!

Loved what I saw from all who got pt last night.

Snow?....ground must be like concrete slab. Looking for the first W tomorrow..
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  27. Traitmanz:

ST: Are we holding a schollie for Tigi Hill next season?

  28. (Jesse)James:

    Dang....Looks cold.

    Good afternoon Tsaikos!!!

One Team. One Goal. One Game.

BTW, ST, I have your shirts... :-)

  29. Jack Flash:

Here's what i'm thinking of doing next year: withhold my donation to Na Koa until after the 6th game of the season. If we're at least 3 & 6, i'll double it. If not, then nada. I'll still purchase season tickets (only 3 next year as some of my crew have lost interest in this team.) Coach Chow needs to earn it already.
    What do you folks think?

  30. Bowwar:

If I recall correctly, Curt Gowdy park is in the middle of the Freeway...far from being a park, but rather, a monument. Used to work/live four summers in Wyoming and all I can tell you is there isn't much of anything except sage brush around Laramie. They used to have a train that took boosters up from Cheyenne to Laramie for the game...

The Warrior "get chance", so I hope they don't blow it.

  31. Bowwar:

JF...I'm gonna have a hard time justifying my two season tickets I've had since the 70's next year. As it is, my wife and kids don't want to go to the games because of Chow, so I may not be able to justify the expense...Pretty sad...

My old section only has two couples left from the glory days and they both said they're facing the same decision and might not return.

  32. Bugaz:

    6th game of the season 3 & 6 ?

  33. Jack Flash:

Oops my bad- 3 and 3...

  34. Jack Flash:

Bowwar- we used to have a group of 20+ season ticket holders going to the games. We're at 11 now, and dropping to only 8 next season...

  35. Bowwar:

I think we'll be lucky to win 3 games total next season based on what I'm seeing now...Not trying to Bash, but being realistic.

  36. Jack Flash:

The current admin can't keep begging everyone for money while the coaching during the games is so piss poor. Like I said, make Coach Chow earn it. Make us happy about spending our hard earned money.

  37. UHfan808:

    Good morning, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! :)

  38. UHfan808:

Dang it, it's already afternoon! Hehe

  39. Bowwar:

JF...Our section used to be full of boosters (Blue Section, Makai side), now there are soooo many pukas, they have to fill it with visiting fans. I still recall the days when "mama Noga" used to cheer for her boys from our section...those were the days.

  40. Jack Flash:

That's enough negativity from me for the day. GO WARRIORS!!!

  41. UHfan808:

    Jack Flash -

IDK but I do know that love is unconditional...

    ...forever until the end

  42. Bowwar:

JF...Yes, there has to be quotas or a line of expectation...If Chow can't win games, then you gotta make changes. No sense in sinking the entire ship (aka athletic department).

  43. Bowwar:

yes, GO WARRIORS! Bring home the bacon!!

  44. Jack Flash:

    I hear ya UHfan808!
I love this team, and truly hope the coaches can get these players a win or 2 to end the season.
My offer for next year stands. Double or nothing on my donation to Na Koa by going at least 3 & 3 after the first 6 games. If they get to a bowl game next year? Hmmm... something special for sure!

  45. cocobean:

#25. NSF. Your 2nd point really hits home with me. I'm the 2nd to the last of the Mohicans from my bunch which at one time held 30+ season tickets. One by one, family by family people have given up their tickets. The sad part is most of the people buying the seats that were relinquished are not new season ticket holders but present holders who were upgrading their seats.

I'm 63 and my seatmate is several years older. Don't know how much longer we can keep this up. The temptation to give up our seats grows stronger every time we hear about the great time our friends are having. Pot lucking and watching the games in the comfort of someone's home.

  46. Ipu Man:

Defense got to be smart and tough...no penalties! Offense, too. Special teams, too.

  47. boolakanaka:

Coco you are a smart man, especially back in the day, you did not want to kaukau the huihui special label of pork.....wink.

  48. jimmy the lock:

Thought I'd splurge and watch the game on PPV...the State Football Championships.

    GO OIA!
    GO WAHINE!
    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!

  49. Andrew:

The fans actually actually can control whether Chow coaches keeps his job or gets fired. Just like with coach Mack, if enough fans threaten to not renew if he's still coaching, Ben Jay would have no choice.

  50. UHfan808:

    46 cocobean

Sounds like you need to join our Tsai-kos T-gates and TV-gates! :D

    You got the details!?

  51. cocobean:

Darn. With Fei Jai talking about chinatown gamblers and jimmy the lock mentioning high school football my mind drifted back to my misspent youth. Remembered back in the the day filling out $2.00 parlay sheets with local high school games mixed in with mainaland college games.

Hey Fei Jai what's the chinatown line on the Championship games?

  53. Doh Bell:

Whose Kuna? Warrior Sports said the loser comes here. He's po cuz his son hates him. Loser. Hahaha

  54. hon2266:

CHOW NEEDS TO BE FIRED AFTER THIS LOSS AND DEBACLE OF A SEASON.

  55. RT:

    Go Warriors!

  56. Andrew:

I think he at least gets one more year. The risk of not knowing if the next coach will even be successful and having to buy out Chow's contract is too much. Not to mention the hit it could have on recruiting. Although I pretty much think next year is bowl game or bust.

  57. NorthShoreFan:

#45 cocobean, "...you don't know what you got till it's gone...
anyhoo, it seems like normal progression. If new peeps around you are upgrading, it tells me you've got some pretty good seats. Hang on to it.
We could stay 0 fer forever but me thinks it'll be something different next year. Growing pains ain't always with out...well, pains. We all thought Chow was going to turn things around instantly and we'd be "chasing championships" this year. Many wise owls out there knew it was not to be. Evidence by where we were picked to finish by the wise owls in the MWC.
Looking forward, it seems to be much brighter. Got lots of great kids in the program and looks like a lot more great ones coming in. Me, I like the fact that the kids aren't quitters like some fans. If we want them to represent, then we need to stand by them. No more "spoiled child" dey no win so give me my money back. If some kids decided to quit because of all the negativity then...."you don't know what you got till it's gone"..really will be reality.
You don't find employment in college or pro football for 30+ years if you don't know what you're doing. It might take more time to mold it to what Chow envision it to be.
You don't have to love the coach but try loving the program and the kids who commit to be Warriors. Some former Warriors say, "Warrior for Life".

  58. Slugger:

    Afternoon, Tsaikos!

Cold here, but not as cold as WY. Stay warm, guys. Keep those muscles warmed up and moving.

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!!
    GO WAHINE!!!
    LET'S GO BOWS!!!

  59. NorthShoreFan:

    Wow!...Go Kolten!..

  60. primo123:

    #54

and then what? who's going to pay for his buy out? 1.3 mil$$?

  61. Warrior Dave:

    #17, NAF,

It is my understanding that UH Athletic budget is already at $32 million per year. BJ is hoping to get it to $40M shortly.

  62. Warrior Dave:

    #60 Primo123,

The buyout would be $1.7M if Chow was fired after this season.

  63. madeinhawaii:

    Warrior Dave.. it would be 550K + 550K + 200K or 1.3 million not 3 x 550K.

Whose Kuna? Warrior Sports said the loser comes here. He's po cuz his son hates him. Loser. Hahaha

    .

Been a while since he came here yapping about Koresh disciples and blah blah blah.

Got quieter since a certain QB fell out of the running to start games.

  65. Konoman1:

    Go Warriors!!!

  66. Marleysdad:

What a game, SJS/Navy triple OT. Navy QB set FBS record w/7 rush TD's.

Seems like we caught a break today, heard the Wyoming safety walks off the practice field & quits, replacement is a freshman?Boola says It's the hitting thats the worst part of the cold……….

Combine that with a frosh safety & a steady dose of Iosefa.Play smart, no make stupid penalties, hit hard, wrap up & tackle.

    We get the W.

  67. Former UH Athlete:

Bowwar... If the QB position doesn't drastically improve... 3 or 4 wins is likely. The roster is getting better, plus I can easily see a few MWC teams taking another step down next year, so I think UH will turn some of this years close losses to wins in 2014. UH will also have a bunch of 3 year starters, which always bodes well for any team, regardless of talent.

Next years non-conference schedule is a little easier than this year. Washington is stuck at a 6 or 7 win team every year and Colorado will still be in rebuilding mode. Northern Iowa should be a win, but Oregon St looks like they could be scary good next year.

  68. Derek:

When was the last time a Hawaii team won in real cold weather, very high altitude, much less on the road. Sorry! Wyoming 31, Hawaii 7.

  69. Former UH Athlete:

67... Being originally from a snowy winter state... Hitting in freezing weather is painful. The first hit feels like somebody whacks your bare skin with a huge rice paddle.

At least the weather won't be nearly as cold as the UNLV v Air Force game yesterday. It was -11 to -15 degree windchill during the game I think it's forecasted to be sunny tomorrow. Had to laugh when the ESPN camera zoomed in at the ice cream vendor at Air Forces stadium. Definitely not selling much ice cream yesterday,

  70. cocobean:

The Wahine looked pretty good tonight. Way different look since the last time I saw them live 2 months ago against Arizona.

UHfan808. Were you there tonight? Thanks for the invite but I work till 1230 on Sat.s, then meet my peeps for some 9 ball at Brian's or Velvets. I have seen you once or twice before at the Stanley just can't recall for what events...recognized you from your photos on SteveM's Tsaiko page. If you don't mind I'll introduce myself next time I see you.

  71. 3-Prong:

Crowd at Stanley was cautiously confident tonight cheering just enough to get the win. Crowd should be more electric tomorrow night for SR Night celebrating 7 great Seniors and trying to complete the revenge weekend.

  72. Warrior Dave:

    #64 MIH,

My calculation is based some fans wanting to fire Chow after this season. Based on 3 more years under contract, it would be around $1.7M to $1.85M UH would have to payout.

  73. LizKauai (mbp):

    Nitey nite!
    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!

  74. how you figgah:

as someone posted already - 1.35M

    3rd year - 550

    4th year - 550

    5th year - 250 - due to termination (not 550).

    das 1.35M

das not including the balance of a few months of 2nd year.

    okeh ?

  75. wafan:

    A chilly good morning!

25 and an hour before sunrise.

    Bring home the W, 'Bows!!!

  76. Doh Bell:

Funny how Kuna like make everybody else pay for buyout. Eh tightass go pay your alimony and child support. Loser. hahahaha

  77. 3-Prong:

Good Morning Gang. Today Is Da Day!
Let's Go Bows! Beat Northridge! ....and Bring Home Da Paniolo Trophy!
