Wake-up call

December 30th, 2013
By

The volleyball Rainbow Warriors were awakened today to the sound of: GET READY!

Yep, to start the final day of training camp at Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam, the Warriors were involuntary participants in a morning exercises.

It was part team bonding, part follow-directions drills.

The Warriors marched, in formation (some wore slippers), and then competed in a precision-drill contest. Brook Sedore, a Canadian, was the winner.

Happy New Year Tsaikos! I hope the MVB team does better this year...I miss the days of Yuval, when MVB was so popular.

Hope the MBB team does well tonight against a decent Norfolk State team...

  20. whitey:

Pre Happy New Year to all the Tsaikos.

  23. Turfwar:

Didn"t see the play but apparently Wave Ryder got ejected early in the game.

  24. Inyoface:

    Who's da DC

  25. ALLAN:

GOOD IDEA FOR WAHINE VB COACH TO GO THE EXTENDED SLOW ROUTE TO RETIREMENT; GIVES POTENTIAL RECRUITS A CHANCE TO RECONSIDER GOING ELSEWHERE WHEN THEY REALIZE HOW OTHERS B4 THEM LOST OUT WHEN THEY DECIDED NOT TO COME TO HAWAII TO PLAY FOR DAVE SHOJI IN THE PAST.

P.S. BLOGGING HERE BCOZ I THINK I BEEN CONSIDERED A BLOG TERRORIST BY VB BLOGS.

  26. MOMO:

TESTING MY NEW COMPUTURE ON THE BLOG. WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY NEW YEAR

  27. bowwar:

Any word on the UH coaching vacancies?

  28. jm2375:

#22 - right now, there's the "Go Green, Save Green" promotion through Wednesday. Any 6 games (out of 17) for $60. Every game will feature a high level of competition. MSPF men's vb is arguably the toughest conference in ANY sport.

  29. Chee Hoo:

#9. Called for launching and helmet to helmet contact against the WR. Replays show that Ryder actually led with his shoulder. Refs really blew that call according to the announcers and ESPN studio analyst Kirk Herbstreet.

  30. Old School Dave:

Interesting contrasts in the Alamo Bowl: Texas with their conservative orange uniforms and white helmets vs Oregon with their creative unis and helmets. Like it or not, recruits are influenced by things like that.

  31. A-joe:

Eh, pretty cool. Everytime Mariota has a big run the band plays Hawaii 5-0. =)

  32. (Jesse)James:

    Good Afternoon Tsaikos!!!

Wishing all of you a great New Year!!! May it bring you health, happiness, and good fortune!!!

    :-)

Ok, now off to find firecrackers....gotta go see my "friend" :-P

  33. Former UH Athlete:

Quite a black Monday for the NFL...

Schiano, Schwartz, Shanahan, chudzinski, and Frazier

    Possibly more to come

  34. Turfwar:

That means there's a lot of very accomplished football coaches looking for a job.

  35. ai-eee-soos:

Schiano: Penn State was interested in him.

Schiano has lost his "bargaining power", now that he lost his job.

  36. NorthShoreFan:

Wow ... Davis with a big man score ....hope he plays big tonight...

  37. NorthShoreFan:

    Fotu-tu tu-tu-tu-tu

  38. Jm2375:

    No videos of the drills?

  40. gobows:

detroit lions…where coaches go to become irrelevant. since 1965, a span of 15 head coaches, none of them have been able to get another head coaching job in the nfl. the last former lions coach to coach another team was george wilson. he was the 1st coach of the expansion miami dolphins.

    will schwartz break the streak?

  41. PONO:

Wow the interest in this blog is really declining. Is this due to the lack of interest in general regarding the fb program or just a sluggish off season?

  42. Blah blah blah:

41, Too much blah, blah, blah.

  43. Inyoface:

Wonder who will be Hawaii's starting QB next year?

  44. Shoko:

Just heard that former Fresno State head coach, Pat Hill, has been fired by the Atlanta Falcons.

  45. Shoko:

I'm thinking Taylor Graham will be the starting QB next season.

  46. Shoko:

With Ikaika Woolsey in special situations.

  47. Shoko:

Actually, I have no idea but that would be my guess.

  48. Shoko:

    Pat Hill firing.

PONO -- more likely the lack of fuud: burgers, buffets (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, seafood), tailgates & BBQs, dinner & movies, cattle calls-- lunch, dinner, and midnight. Bubbling tofu soup. nabeyaki udon...

    BBL. Getting the munchies...

  56. NorthShoreFan:

Some ones got the serious case of ...Munchies..nytal

  57. Stephen Tsai:

    Re: Blog interest
The views are high, but, alas, some of the content isn't drawing interest.
My stuff, of course, is wonderful — heh, heh — but people turn off people who say the same thing over and over.
It's all about entertainment. We have some wonderfully witty folks — DPK, A-Joe, (Jesse) James, Koakane, etc., etc. — and so if you want to be read, be entertaining.
I agree with "blah, blah, blah." If you say the same thing over and over, you tend to get tuned out. I know I don't read some of that.
    It's up to you.

  58. Stephen Tsai:

And, yep, blog gets turned off tomorrow so I can focus on fireworks, so say your "well wishes" now.

  59. Jm2375:

Early Happy New Year to all!

    Happy Birthday, Kevin!

    Happy birthday to Salevaa Atisanoe.

  60. Inyoface:

Going to have to catch the Basketbows when they hit the southern Cali region.

  61. Stephen Tsai:

One other thing to consider for the new year:
We do have a lot of female readers, but very few female posters. Why? The mood is really hostile and unfriendly. It's just a few, but they make it really uncomfortable for the majority. So, you know, I'm not going to be your parent here, but adhering to appropriate social behavior will go a long way, not just here, but in all settings.

  62. Stephen Tsai:

And, yes, I do get grumpy when i have to wake up early.

  63. 3-Prong:

    HaPpY NeW YeAr Er'BoDy!

  64. kama krab:

  66. SteveM:

  78. mo808:

    Happy Belated Birthday Blessings, Kevin!

  79. boolakanaka:

Aloha Kakou! I'll spread some aloha around the big apple this evening on behalf of all. Although, I'll be indoors eating a huge bowl of Portuguese bean soup, (which I am just starting to put together) and sipping bourbon. Thanks for all the mana'o and wit this year, but most of all making me feel welcome on the board!!!

  80. Slugger:

Happy New Year to Stephen & all of my Tsaiko friends!

  85. 3-Prong:

UHfan808: answer to your question: just in high school due to an injury.

  86. jeezy33:

I know for a fact that when ST was talking about how some people bring the vibe of this blog down by repeating themselves over and over and being hostile, he wasn't talking about me. Because I know for a fact that EVERYONE wants to hear what I say... over and over.

I wanted everyone here to hear the good news first: I have applied for a coaching position for UH football. Both me and jonj. I can't speak for him, but I do feel that my insights into the team and the sport of football itself can singlehandedly right the sinking chow ship.

Mahalo, and happy new years, everyone.

  87. haka:

    Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

    Good tidings to all
    And of course....
    Go Warriors!

  92. haka:

    Anyway,
    Happy New Year again everyone!
    Celebrate safe!

  93. jeezy33:

The fact that you can't tell the difference, haka, says a lot about me. or whoever posts as me: jeezy33.

    hau'oli makahiki ho.

  94. koakane ip5:

  96. Kekoa:

A tip of the Tsaiko ball cap to our hardtwerking, newsbreaking blogmeister. Mahalo for bringing us ALL the scoops again this season via The Warrior Beat. Warm wishes to you and the family for the coming new year.

  97. A-House:

    Hey, ST:

    It's wake up time!!!!!!

Your hale was dark when we passed at 6:30 am today.

Second chance to wish all a very Happy New Year around the world - may you be blessed with good health and happiness!!!!!!!!!!!

  98. Old School Dave:

Wishing everyone a happy and safe New Year to all.

  99. A-House:

    ah, koakane:

we loved the "aloha print" socks - harkened us back to a time when the shorts were also aloha print.

  100. Blah blah blah:

Enjoy the waning day of the old year and get ready to welcome in the new year.

    Happy New 2014 Year everyone!!!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  101. graham:

Akina wont make anywhere near that anywhere else. And I doubt any other school would offer him a DC position. Did anyone watch Texas's defense in the beginning of the season? Manny Diaz still doesnt have a job. I wouldnt mind Akina as DC but dont think it is going to be him. My guess is that it is someone that no one has ever heard of who is willing to do it for cheap. If you think about it, it is not a great job. One there is a lack of talent. Two Chow will be fired if they miss going to a bowl again. And three it doesnt pay well!

  102. wafan:

Good morning last day of 2013 Tsai-kettes and Tsai-kos!

  103. wafan:

Wishing everyone a super new year . . . gotta be better for some of us and for others it is going to be incredible!

  104. UH4eva:

    #65...So did Akina apply???

  105. boolakanaka:

101..Not sure that there is any lack of interest in Duane. I know for fact, Baylor, via Brian Norwood, have spoken to him, and as well, serious feelers from Texas A&M, and OKL, have been solicited.

While he may not be in the upper margin of talent in the DC category, he is nationally recognized as one the premier DB coaches, especially as applied to man-on techniques and schemes. He would still attract market price between, 300-400K for the programs mentioned, and it would still be a mid-range salary, for a top 25 BCS program.

  106. Loa:

    morning gang!

have a safe and happy new year!

  107. Loa:

    happy belated birthday Kazz!

  108. Marleysdad:

Good morning, last one of '13. Happy new year to all.

Party hard, party safe. If you had too much to drink, AAA is offering free tows home.
Tipsy Tow, 1-800-222-4357 They will take you & your car home. No be one statistic.

Congrads to the MBB. Really enjoy watching them play. I love Sham-wow! What a difference one player makes. I find it interesting that at 6' tall, nobody can really post him up. He plays much bigger than his stature. Hope the new year brings Fotu some added aggressiveness. He has the potential to a great one.

Also, hoping for continued success on the recruiting front. Please get us a JC QB that's ready to play & fend off the poachers from the PNW.

    Again, Happy New Year!

  109. tommui:

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

And a HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all!

KAZZ - belated but Happy Birthday!
