It doesn't matter the sport. It is a big deal whenever Hawaii and UCLA meet in anything. Adding to the appeal of tonight's Outrigger Volleyball Invitational are:
• UCLA has a rarity — a 7-foot player. But opposite Robert Page isn't just there to block and hit over the block. He also has some defensive skills. Against Ohio State, Page had four digs.
• Every so often there is a UH opponent who is so good for so long the player enters Chris Herren status. Bruin outside hitter Gonzalo Quiroga has been good for a long time — and mostly against UH.
• Nobody pays to watch somebody coach, the saying goes. But John Speraw is an exceptional coach and strategist. A lot of volleyball can be learned from watching how Speraw manages a match and his players.
