Double duty for Schroeder

March 18th, 2014
By

Sean Schroeder will be busy during pro day at the San Diego State complex on Thursday.

UH's session is scheduled for the morning; SDSU's session is in the afternoon. Schroeder said he will throw passes during both workouts, expanding his exposure for NFL scouts.

Schroeder has trained the past two months at a facility in Irvine, Calif. He said he has gained strength, lowered his body fat, and throws about four or five times a week. Some of those sessions involved former USC receiver Marqise Lee, projected as a first-round pick.

    Go VULCANS!

  3. A-House:

    Go, Go, Go, Kikaida!

    Hello, cruel world!

    How U, Duffer?

  4. A-House:

Does a prospect need approval from the "host" school to participate in their "pro-day"?

  5. tommui:

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

Top of the morning to DUFFER and A-House.

  6. tommui:

    Best to Sean!

  7. jm2375:

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Best wishes to Mr. Schroeder and all other former Warriors participating in Pro Day.
Best wishes to Coach Wiesehan and Coach Rauscher in their future endeavors.

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

  8. el burro sabio:

Why do people think that a former player is a good candidate to be a coach just because he played the position, or wouldn't be good because he didn't? Just for hypothetical sake, maybe Chris Naeole could have been a great defensive back, but he was given a lineman's body.

  9. AFWarrior:

Where is Phil Rausher going? Will both assistant coach positions be filled prior to spring camp? Have the jobs been advertised?

  10. Shoko:

    Good luck to Schroeder.

Wonder if Muema will be there. Last I heard he said he will be attending, but then again.....who knows what kind of divine wisdom he will follow.

  11. oldie:

    Morning Everyone!

Hope UH can move quickly to hire coaches. With Spring Practice just around the corner, don't want the staff handicapped as they were last year with the departure of the OC.

Correction to something I posted earlier: it was a tennis tournament that Ellison bought, not a golf tournament.

  12. JustAsking:

Too bad Wiesehan couldn't spend his last day on the UH payroll fulfilling his commitment to our seniors at Thursday's Pro Day... Instead, his last day will be spent packing? Preparing for Temple's start of spring practice on the 24th?

  13. HALEAKALA:

Go for it Sean! Best wishes.

  14. NorthShoreFan:

    Guud Morning Tsaikos...bootiful day

Aloha and Mahalo to the coaches..much success along your path...please take some aloha with you and spread it around.

  15. NorthShoreFan:

    IMUA Sean!

  16. Luki:

Kennedy Pola...Itula Mili if they're available...

  17. islandman:

Anybody know what the "real" reason for Rauscher's departure, if any besides "for personal reasons" ?

  18. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Good Morning Gangeez! ;)

Best of luck to Sean Schroeder. He's earned every bit of success he has!

  19. nana:

Why didn't Schroeder work this hard to get in shape for Hawaii, why only for his pro day?

  20. papajoe2:

New campus stadium poll on SA shows "no" leading 69%-31%.
    Oh, and good morning everybody.

  21. boolakanaka:

16--Kennedy would be a great pickup, but he is at UCLA. And he is a LA dude through and through. In any event, he might have been way over our price range as he was one of the name brand college assistants that was commanding half-a-million dollar salaries. Oh, and he goes by Polamalu now.

  22. tommui:

    #19 Nana:

When you have not played since December, you have to get back in condition.

When he played at UH, it is somewhat difficult, I think you will agree, to train and exercise when you are interrupted in your training and exercise regime by playing a football game, and in the case of playing on the Mainland, trying to train and exercise while traveling.

  23. Stephen Tsai:

It does not appear UH will fill those positions until the summer.
As long as coordinators are in place, a team can function.
Wiesehan's value was in providing guidance for the younger coaches and helping with game-day spotting. He's a good guy. He'll be missed.

  24. Stephen Tsai:

Schroeder had back surgery last spring and didn't really have the offseason to train.

  25. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Took the words right outta my mouth, Mr. Tsai. Schroeder did well for UH, and has the scars to prove it.

  26. PurpleMaple:

Plus, they're student athletes and need to attend classes, study, do homework and take exams.

  27. iwonderwhytheyhateme:

Just as we thought that the program could finally jell after being together for 3 years, 4 new coaches will have to get acquainted. The madness never ceases to end for us. Good luck, Hawaii.

  28. Slugger:

    Hi, gang!

Good luck to all of the Bows at UH's Pro Day!!!

    What's happening w/ the coaches???

  29. Slugger:

    Hi, Oldie!

ST, are you going to be at the Pro Day?

  30. Slugger:

    GO VOLLEYBOWS!!!

  31. Slugger:

    GO WAHINE!!!

    Slugger:
Yep. I'll be out there with my stopwatch, clipboard and Sycuan Casino chips.

  34. gobows:

    19

That happens every year at hawaii and elsewhere. Busting butt for the one shot at the dream...

  35. jeezy33:

Assuming the next coach will have a UH tie to the program. Reagan Mauia capable of RB coach?

  36. jeezy33:

Don't know why I said assume. It would be nice to have a coach with a UH tie to the program.

  37. Stephen Tsai:

    Jeezy:
It would be nice to have a UH alumnus.

  38. jimmy the lock:

    Congrats to the Wahine.

    Go Schroeder.

  39. jimmy the lock:

David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar

  40. jimmy the lock:

Dave Evans or Bon Scott or Brian Johnson

  41. jimmy the lock:

Steve Perry or...nah, no contest here.

  42. Lowtone123:

A little late on Jeff Ulbrich. I always though he would make a good coach.

  43. Old School Dave:

Bring back Brian Smith, who's at Occidental with Darnell Arceneux. Smith was credited with developing Alex Green into an NFL caliber player.

  44. Nobuchan:

Dave, going back to your blog on "Field or dreams". I found a picture of what an on campus stadium might look like. I believe it was from an older post you had awhile ago.

  45. Nobuchan:

sorry here's the link of the on campus football stadium.

Asst Coach job posted 3/18. Closes 3/21. I think they have someone(s) in mind,

from the pool of 350+ previous applicants.

Looks like a degree is NOT required; a combination of education and experience can
    be substituted.

Bring in Jason Gesser and Stutz1 and make a RNS/Mizzou super spread :D

Woolsey would maul in that kind of offense.

  49. ai-eee-soos:

    # 47. He can apply; if he gets an offer, he can always turn down the present offer.

    Happens all the time.

  51. st. anthony trojan:

Maybe Jezzy (sub) message about a alumnus....a bit of musical chairs with the present defensive
coaches..and Al Noga be hired ?

  52. Derek:

Can Colt Brennan coach tight ends?

  53. Inyoface:

    Rolo coming back?

  54. jeezy33:

    51. No... Just kinda stating the obvious that it would be good to have at least 1 UH alumni on the staff. It's not everything, but I think at a school like Hawaii, it carries some importance to have someone who bled green and graduated from U of H.

RB coach is a position where you wouldn't need as much experience coaching in my opinion, and someone with a good leadership trait and ability to recruit can be a big asset.

  55. jimmy the lock:

The Kamehameha football coach was a pretty good tight end back in the day.

  56. 76SOUTH:

How about "nasty" Nate as our new RB coach?

  57. Buffoman:

#55 I was thinking the same thing.

I'll never understand why some people change their post name when they ready to throw a coach or player under the bus or just rag on them. Wish They had the GUTS to use their usual post name. Come in and grow a pair.

  77. oldie:

Hi Slugger! Hope you make back to Hawaii sometime soon.

Looks like a good pick up in LB Jonah Moi. Hope it's for real.

  78. jm2375:

  80. kev-1:

There was a heck of a football coach that was just released from his job recently for no reason. I bet you that bruddah can coach. That would be a heck of a Kahuku connection.

  81. ai-eee-soos:

    Finally - after only a 16-month delay ....

MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The new Warrior Recreation Center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa was supposed to be built by December 2012, but the project has been plagued by delays. The facility is finally set to open next month, but some students who have been paying for the center told Hawaii News Now that the grand opening is too late.

UH seniors Alex Saunders and Hank Dorrance are eager to check out the facility, but they're graduating about a month after the April 11 opening date.

"I've seen it go up. They started blocking off stuff on the side. Now it's almost done, but it's a little too late for me," said Dorrance, a business student.

"It kind of sucks, but I guess it's just part of construction. Sometimes it happens. It would be nice if it hadn't. I know everyone's been excited about it for awhile. It's a good selling point for UH," said Saunders, a business student.

The $33.9 million project is now 16 months behind schedule. The delays were due to factors including design and contractor performance-related problems, subcontractor bankruptcy issues, and unforeseen site conditions, according to a UH spokeswoman.
