Good morning Tsaikos. Aloha Teva, you going make Maui proud. and grandpa Carl is all smiles.

  2. whitey:

porgot, also his Molokai ohana going be cheering too.

  3. tom-warriornation:

yes, make Maui proud (from a Lahaina boy)!

  4. tom-warriornation:

From my buddy & UHAA President in Colorado (email me for tix at: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com):

    Aloha UH Alum and Friends,

The UH v CU game is less than 80 days away and the Colorado Chapter is pleased to provide you with ticket purchasing information for the Sept 20th game.

Our fellow alumnus and former Warrior Letterwinner, Jason Vaughn (’95-’98), worked hard with CU’s ticketing department to negotiate a good deal for us. The challenge was selling CU that we would have 100+ Chapter members and friends show up for the game. Here’s our “Rally Cry”:

    · If everyone shows up from this list and brings, at least one guest, we will be 80 strong in our section.
    · If everyone works their network a little harder, we will easily make the 100+ target.
    · Feel free to send the ticket purchase flyer to your friends.
    · **Please purchase your tickets by Aug 8th as CU will release the unspoken for tickets in our section**

    Other game notes:
    · UHAA is in the process of securing a venue for a Pre-Game Friday Night Pau Hana Rally (program info TBA)
    · UHAA Warrior Gameday Tailgate will be at the Millennium Hotel on 28th Street in Boulder (ticket and program info TBA)
    · Our Colorado Chapter will have a table at the Tailgate to sell boiled peanuts to help us fund our scholarship drive

Finally, for those that have followed our Team--the win/loss record has been a challenge; however, this is a time when our support is needed most. I’m sure Jason can attest to the feeling of looking for UH fans in the stands at road games. It’s reassuring to know that your fans have your backs to cheer loud and proud for a hard fought game.

  5. tom-warriornation:

Also got about 100 local fans going to the Rice road game on Oct. 4. Rice is offering great 40 yd line seats behind our team there--also let me know if you want these fantastic group tix sitting with this locals. tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com

  7. tom-warriornation:

I will get 50 yard line seats behind our team for these 3 games, like the previous years, where we had over 200 fans at San Jose & 150+ fans at San Diego sitting in our group including many families of our football players & our alumni players. Email me: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com

  8. d1shima:

    Great Morning All!

    Welcome Mr. Eldridge.

    Warriors No Ka Oi!

  9. d1shima:

Mahalo to those who are coordinating things for the Road Warrior fans.

Unfortunately, I won't be among them this upcoming season but I'll be cheering from home!

  10. tommui:

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

    Welcome Teva!

Tom-Warriornation: Thank you for all you do!

  11. NorthShoreFan:

    Guud Morning Tsaikos....Bootiful day.

E komo mai Teva!...we love home grown WARRIORS!

  12. kapakahi:

Walk-on offer to Teva made back in March....

    http://mauinow.com/2014/03/07/baldwin-prospect-receives-first-college-offer/

  13. Stephen Tsai:

The camp roster is at 103. There are a few players in the "bullpen," players who either will be added to the 105 or will join on Aug. 26.

  14. Stephen Tsai:

I noticed there are discounts for senior citizens.
I don't think there's a discount if a person becomes a senior citizen in October.

  15. Old School Dave:

Any chance of Jordan Hoeim returning to football?

  16. Old School Dave:

    Sorry, it's Hoiem.

BTW, the young kid on the ads for Paniolo Pines was Kalani Doroen who later was a pretty good running back for Kaimuki High back in the early 80s.

  17. HiloBilly:

So...I'm seating here having corned beef hash, over-easy eggs, & rice for breakfast & decide to catch up on yesterday's WB. What do I find?

    *******

Not as interesting as Louisiana food.
At Ruston's Cajun Cafe, we had catfish, crawfish, alligator …
Then again, maybe we didn't. Everything was deep-fried. We could have had deep-fried boogers and we would have believed it was a gator meat.

    *******

Mahalo, ST, for such a vivid description!

Hey Boola! I went to school w/ a Gary Aiwohi from Maui (he was KS '64). Is he any relation to your house guest?

  18. Stephen Tsai:

    Old School Dave:
He was a pretty good back. I think Curtis Murayama, our deputy sports editor, once wrote a story about Kalani.

  19. Stephen Tsai:

"Come be my neighbor," Kalani said to TV viewers.
Actually, I once lived on Kaimuki Avenue, so there probably was a chance I was his neighbor.

  20. Stephen Tsai:

I sort of miss hot, dry Kaimuki, where there was no real point to watering the lawn.

  21. Haleakala:

Great to have another Maui boy on the Warriors team! Go get um Teva!

  22. Stephen Tsai:

While feeling nostalgic for the days of yore — yes, that's what we called it before they invented calendars — I tried to find the Exchange orangeade commercial on YouTube. Alas, there's only the non-lyrical version. Copyright concerns?

  23. kapakahi:

    Junior season highlights......

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxCzBu8bUm0

  24. Old School Dave:

Stephen: For some reason Kaimuki would be down for years, then every now and then a talented group of players would come up. Along with Kalani were players such as Kaui Meyer, Vea Manu, Manu Lakalaka, Togi Veu ((who played a couple of years at UH), among others. Back then, recruiting was less prevalent compared to today.

In contrast to dry Kaimuki, I know a guy who grew up in Manoa, but moved away because it rained too much.

  25. kapakahi:

    ST,

What's the update on SB/KR Terrance Polk?

  26. Old School Dave:

I used to laugh at Lippy Espinda,s used car commercials on TV - "Hele on braddah. Hele on braddah....."

  27. Stephen Tsai:

Polk won't be joining the team.
I think he inquired, but I'm not sure if ever became eligible.

  28. Stephen Tsai:

    Manu Lakalaka
Now there's a name from the past.

  29. Stephen Tsai:

I remember there was a local bank commercial with a guy singing and dancing around an ATM.
    Was it Bank of Hawaii?
    I miss my memory.

  30. A-House:

    tom-warriornation:

any idea of the distance from the Boulder tailgate to the stadium? or, is it too far to walk and the busses will take us to the stadium?

your post does not mention the cost of a ticket

  31. A-House:

    tom-warrironation:

any idea what row the seats will be for the Rice game and cost?

  32. A-House:

    ST:

safe to presume that the other American Samoa footballers have decided not to commit/sign with UH?

I thought Stanford had a "lock" on Kaumatele?

  33. boolakanaka:

HiloBilly--Yups, we getting his daughter settled, (she recently graduated from college) so she will be staying w/ us, until she has enough for her own place and a little nest egg (hehe--might be a little bit).

Oh, I'll be back at the Keaau campus in late September, but this time I'll be also bringing some folks from the place a little up north (Harvard). I feel sorry for the bruddhas....

We gotta grab some hawaiian food this time around at Kuhio Grille.

  34. whitey:

not bad, two retired maui pd officer's mentioned on the blog today, aiwohi and eldredge.

  35. leron:

    #28 I believe Stephen Lakalaka's uncle?

  36. Dan-O:

#22...ST, my wife was one of the Keiki on that original orangeade exchange commercial.

  37. nutmegger:

ST - The boy in the Montana ad said his name was Kalani, I never knew his name was Kalani Doroen and he was a running back for Kaimuki. You guys are amazing,

I am patting myself and UHAD on the back for using one of the ideas I posted a few months ago about selling smaller packages for home games instead of a full season. In the SA this morning there was an article about the 4 game packages that you can choose a couple of the games. Either someone else had the same good idea or somebody at UH actually reads the
    Warrior Beat.

  38. pukalaniboy:

    Welcome Teva another Maui boy.

  39. oneseason:

The season tickets prices are a bargain compared to UW's new prices after the new $250M stadium build. Regular (non-luxury box) seating tops out at about $1250 (with $750 "donation"). Luxury seating is $495 plus "Donations vary" ... which probably means "if you have to ask ...". The combination of a winning team, existing prices, and existing stadium sure seems like the best approach to keeping attendance up. http://www.gohuskies.com/pdf9/2574936.pdf

  40. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Good Morning Gangeez! ;)

    Welcome to the Warriors, Teva!

Can't wait to see the team practices at fall camp. Some interesting new additions across the board and great returnees.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  41. kapakahi:

    #27,

    Thanks ST!

Any update on JC CB transfers Cesar Fermin (Moorpark JC) and Jamal Mayo (Laney JC)?

  42. kapakahi:

    #32,

Just like Rex Manu......and other prospective HS senior applicants, Kaumatule will need to wait 'til the Fall to find out whether he's been accepted into Stanford.....before being considered a "lock".

  43. st. anthony trojan:

Curtis Sylva is also part of the Ohana....make it 3 Whitey..

  44. Da Punchbowl Kid:

Good luck to another Hawaii "Warrior" BJ Penn, who faces Edgar today on channel 214 at 1PM for prelims, and at 3PM for the main event.

  45. amela:

Why won't players from American Samoa not want to sign or commit to UH? Waiting for other offers or something else? No way to get Jordan Hoiem to come back and play.

  46. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    Fordy Five!

  47. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    plus one equals 46...

  48. no can count:

    lol

  49. boolakanaka:

Yeah, whats happening to dat Cesar bruddha with the nice ears......??? In or not--or holding breath for summer grades?

  50. 3-Prong:

    Congrats to Kurt Suzuki!!!

  51. st. anthony trojan:

what did Kurt do... slow to get news here manila he he he

  52. HiloBilly:

Whitey...just curious, you mentioned a retired PO named Eldredge. A classmate of mine was Keith Eldredge. Is this the Eldredge you're referring to?

Halawa 'Eli'...when you come to the Big Island, better yet, let me know when & we'll spring for the local laulau, poi, lomi, poke, etc, home-made, w/ some inu at the park. I would have suggested the beach, but 'beach' is kind of a stretch in Hilo!

  53. Shoko:

    Suzuki named to All-Star team.

  54. whitey:

HiloBilly, his hame is Carl. I don't think they are related.

  55. st. anthony trojan:

Wow that is cool...thanks shoko...nice to have the 808 represented in the game..

    # 52...Onekahakaha have a nice rocks ..he he he
was in service with a cann there close by...across the store on the corner...

  56. whitey:

HiloBilly, Keith's daughter was on the Cal Berkley softball team. I not sure, but they may have won an NCAA championship and I think she was an all-american. Keith get plenty relatives on Oahu and their family is well known.

  57. Don Weir:

    Tom Warrior Nation, et al,
All Letterwinners are invited to a hosted brunch at Cafe Zucchero in Little Italy (under the Little Italy sign). We'll start at 9:00 and run it until 11:30. Frank Busalacchi learned to make Italian pastries from an elder family member in Palermo and the coffee drinks are very good. We will have the back patio to ourselves, or, we can mingle with the Saturday crowd in the restaurant.
There is a great farmers market on Saturdays in Little Italy so there are any number of activities/food/crafts to experience.
The SD Trolley stop is 1 block away from Little Italy so transportation is not a problem.

Game time is 7:30 so there is plenty of time left on game day for your travels.

If any of you know Letterwinners who plan to be in San Diego please pass the word.
Any questions please let me know.

  58. Shoko:

Love these first-round knockouts. Benefits folks, like me, that suffer from an attention deficit disorder. No problem losing track of punches making contact as the next fight is still just around the corner.

  59. boolakanaka:

52...Fantastic idea...but, with one suggestion--let Eli flip the bill, they get plenty kala for such a gathering....but, I love the idea and aloha!

  60. Shoko:

Alrighty, let's see if the Penn, indeed, mightier than the sword.

  61. st. anthony trojan:

Shoko....following live blog here...guess better then nothing...cuz cannot watch here..
hopw he does well...he needs a win..as much as the warriors do.. he he he

  62. Shoko:

    61. I'm watching on Fox Sports but you can watch it at the following link.
    http://www.ifeed2all.eu/watch/268454/1/watch--the-ultimate-fighter:-finale.html

  63. HiloBilly:

Mahalo, Whitey. Our family will be on Maui in Makena from the 18th-22nd for a get-together/relaxation before school starts again. My daughter-in-law's grandparents are Uncle Ed & Aunty Laurie Chang, so we'll be spending a lot of time at their Kukahiko House & Chang'S Beach in Makena. Maybe we can get together. By the way, Billy Medeiros from Hana is also my classmate, I think he's also a retired cop???

Keep sending the Maui boys to the Warriors, I can't wait to see what Ewaliko can do!

  64. st. anthony trojan:

    Thanks

  65. Shoko:

Yep, BJ had a great career but its time to permanently retire and seek other opportunities in life post MMA.

  66. 3-Prong:

BJ: Pride of Hawaii but time to retire. No snap to his punches and not a threat when on his back like before.

  67. whitey:

hilobilly, your ohana is huge. i knew grandpa eddie because he used to let us use the beach every year during the coach sakamoto swim invitational after the meet was over. it was a great tradition for our team which included kids from Hilo, Mililani, and Aiea. the Hilo coach was Ed Kawachika. thanks for the invite, but will be in the north country for some serious business with the salmon. hahahahaaa. have a super reunion and safe travel for your ohana.

  72. kapakahi:

I will always think of this version of BJ Penn.....

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN-D0gTdJRk

The one with certain intense look on his face.....not with the calm look he had tonight.
